I am going to admit that I will probably start reading the book in the middle. I am horrible about this. I keep trying to talk my self into reading it corectly, but I know me. I will want to know the ending before I start reading. Are there any other cheaters out there?

I don't really want to...but i think i will

, im just so anxious to know what will happen, but i think i would ruin the surprise if i do it. But it is hard to wait until the surprise arrives and not read it first!, i think the first thing i'll do when i get the book is to read the last page

NO WAY would i cheat! iv been waiting for this book for years and years, im not going to spoil it all for myself by cheating! the reason the books are so good is that they build up a big story line, drop loads of clues, then the climax reveals everything, so cheating would be rubbish! you would ruin the last book! i dont think anyone should do this.. you ruin it for yourself, be a little bit patient and read it the proper way and get the best out of the book!

Yeah, me too.

I was flicking through the OotP when we first got it and found out about Sirius and I told my sister. But she ruined someone's death in HBP for me (won't say who for people who haven't read it yet).
So, yeah, I probably will spoil it for myself, but I'm going to try not to.

I couldn't go to the back or middle of the book, I would hate to spoil the surprise. Plus I want to see if i can figure it out for myself before JKR tells me. I only ever read the back before the front if i've already read the book and I want to remind myself of the end.
But no, Harry Potter is jsut too good to know what's coming before you read it for the first time.

I'll read it the right way. If I found out the ending before I even read the beginning, I'd be devastated and wouldn't soak up all the information in the book. I've been waiting for too long to spoil it for myself. I'm going to force myself to read it slowly (because I'm a really fast reader), and savor it as much as possible.

Whenever a new Harry Potter book would come out,I would skim through the book, only reading a few titles, reading every title of the book, but
NEVER going near the end of the book, for the fear I may read the last sentance and ruin the entire book.
Just reading the titles gives me idea's on what could be happening in this book

Its lovely.

well as much as i can not wait to know what happens i wont cheat. that doesnt mean that i wont be tempted or that i havent done that with other books because i have but not with harry potter. i love these books and it would almost ruin the whole series to read the end first (you can always reread to get the fine points and clues in the beginning) the begining just wouldnt be the same if you knew the end first just look at how much we have all learned starting from PS/SS! we all kinda grew up with harry

Yeah, We've been waiting 10 years for this moment, I wouldn't want to spoil ten years of waiting and waiting to find out what happens by reading the end before I start.
Growing up with Harry Potter makes it more special to me, like it has been a huge part of my life since i was like 9 and i wouldnt want to spoil it now.

I want to read the end first that will really ruin the surprise. I will just read from the start but I can't promise anything.
But I'm itching to know what's going to happen but I just have to keep myself calm:P
The best part is to read the book and come up with all kinds of ideas about what will happen in the end.

I wont cheat. I never have. But I really will be tempted to see if the last word is scar. The only issue is, if i do that, i'll read the last sentence and that might reveal something... And if is something like, "and that harry, is why you have your scar" i'll read the last paragraph... and I will reveal something. SO i would promise just to see the last word... and hope i keep it.

If you are able to do that,
Muggle Slayer, I will be impressed!

I know for a fact that I wouldn't have the willpower not to keep reading if I tried to peak at the last word. Nope, I'm going to start at the beginning and work my way through just like the other books. I don't trust myself to do anything else.

It will be hard for me not to look ahead, but I won't. That having been said, I will probably cover up the bottom of the page with my hand so I won't read ahead... that's what happened to me when I was reading Pendragon (another favorite series of mine)
It will definitely drive me crazy!!

Well, I admit the temptation to just get right to climax without waiting will be as strong as an industrial magnet, but I can safely say I have the willpower to resist it.

Oh my.
I must say, I am one of the many that likes to skip to the end to see what happens. I have yet to do that with Harry Potter which is a good thing.
I don't think I'll skip to the end but if I end up doing so, I think I will hit myself

I will no tintentionally find out the ending. But i'm going to the Border's Harry Potter party so I'm sure some Idiot there will get the book first and then yell out the ending to ruin it for everyone so to stop that i am bring earplugs.

I want to know EVERYTHING that's gonna happen, not just the big question/s of the ending and who dies, but where all the Horcruxes are, what happens to Grawp and Hagrid, what role Viktor Krum will play, which Death Eaters will do what, what Snape gets up to, if Dumbledore and Sirius make an impact and if so, what they do, what happens to Dobby, and Nearly Headless Nick, and the Bloody Baron, Peeves and Moaning Myrtle ...
It's gonna be weird when I close the back cover on the book and all those characters in that magical world are gone. It'll be like closing up a portal to a world I've peaked my head into for years.

I hate to say it, but I will probably flip to the end. I tend to do that with good books. I actually knew about DD in the last book before I even left the store!! I hate that I do it, but I can't seem to help myself!!

Who knows, maybe I will be able to resist, but I doubt it....

Whenever I have a book to read, I always think about the movie "When Harry Met Sally" (I think thats the one). Billy Crystal says that he reads the ending first to make sure he knows what happens in case he dies. I don't do that but you never know. When I read the Lord of the Rings before The Two Towers movie came out, I flipped ahead and saw that Gandalf had returned and it ruined it for me. I don't think I'm going to flip ahead in this book.
The Infamous Fish
Jul 13 2007, 07:50 PM
I'll admit it. I flipped on Half-Blood Prince.

I had already heard the rumor of Dumbledore's death, and had even seen the whole "potential leak" thing about the factory or whatever where people were betting that Dumbledore would die. So I just wanted to see if it was true. I already basically knew, but I just wanted to be sure. It made it easier. It was better knowing than being 95% sure. All that false hope that maybe, just maybe, he would make it.
But this time? Oh, sure I'll be tempted. I know I will. But I think I can resist. I would be tempted to read the last sentance. I know the last word isn't scar, so I want to know what it is now. But I think I can wait. I think I can. I'm sure I'll be able to...
Right?

lol, i have this totally crazy habit. Whenever i start reading a good book, ill read the last sentence of it first! I hope i won't be too tempted to do that with the Deathly Hallows b/c otherwise the book won't seem as good. But yes, call me crazy, but i usually read the last SENTENCE, not chapter but sentence, first

I will save you from having to cheat. JKR said on the Jonathan Ross show that the last word
was scar but that she changed it.
Now you don't have to go to the last page of the book

I prefer reading in a decending order. It's totally fun. Especially if you enjoyed the movie "momento."
Anyway, seriously. For me, it's pure, masochistic curiosity. I want to know the end, and it's right there. It's not that I
want to read the end before the begining. I'm just very tempted to read the end. that's a different thing. I want to read the end, in a general sense. but I don't want the end ruined for me. These are two conflicting desires.
I think I'll be fine on this one, though. I'll still have that twinge of temptation, but I think I'll be fine. I don't want to spoil it for myself.
It's tomorrow!

Exactly Fish. The true undoubtable end is within your reach. It's hard not to just crack it open and read it. I did that with HBP just to be sure the trio lived. I didn't find out about DD until I got to it though.
Okay but anywho I am not, will not, shall not, must not read the end of DH. I shrieked when my brother tried to tell me the hacker article, I still want to be surprised. I mean it's the last HP book ever. Sobs helplessly into pillow.
I swear I won't this time.

I agree with Albus why would you cheat? I mean the entire book is full of good stuff I amy be tempted the Harry Potter books are all full of adventure and excitement all the way through and now its even more exciting because of the ever present grip of darkness. If I read the last word first Id probably kick myself because I didnt read it in order even though I want to learn what the new mysterious last word is. If I accidently found out that say Snape was actually evil by randomly flipping to the middle and just scanning a page or that say Neville died I would probably throw my book out my 2nd floor window and then dive after it but nonetheless the book is much bettre read from page one to the end. My deepest regret is that I cant read the book all night once I get back from the midnight party at one of my local bookstores because I have a volleyball camp all day tommorow and if some person was walking by and they were like Harry died to there spouse I would probably hit them for ruining the book and if I hear any mention of Harry Potter my hands will cover my ears and I will humm loudly because I couldnt stand not reading it and finding out but at least after volleyball I can hole myself in my room turn off my cell phone and tv take my phone out of the jack i will be happy and content knowing I can read the book from page one and not know what happens on say page 634.
