Capricorn
This is a thread where you can vote and discuss the differences between Myspace and Facebook. Please remember to be safe - don't post any contact information (such as email addresses, especially) on these boards. Remember that anyone can read this, and you never know who it is or what his/her intentions are. If you've befriended someone through Veritaserum and want to add him/her as a friend, I'd suggest doing so via PM.

Have fun!

i prefer myspace because i just think it's cooler! and its also because i'm not in highschool yet so i can't have a facebook...but for myspace i can..so i like that about myspace! rolleyes.gif ..i also think that although facebook is similar to myspace, myspace had better ways to interact with other people..thats what i think though! so if someone else thinks diffrently please dont get offended by my opinions tongue.gif ..thank you smile.gif
workaholic_1231
Interesting topic Capricorn!

Well I deffinitely prefer myspace because you're given much more space to personalize it. I love having the ability to change my backgorund, contact table, and all the rest of what you're inable to do on facbook. I realize that now facebook is coming out with some quite interesting applications, but the ability to change what I've just mentioned still lacks.
fragglecomegomibayas
I also like MySpace better, for the same reasons that workaholic_1231 stated . I think it's cool that you can demonstrate your personality in lots of ways, it gives more room for expression and I believe that to be one of the most important rights we have as human beings tongue.gif
Crucio20
Well, now Facebook is quickly turning into MySpace, minus the pimping profile out. But i prefer myspace with my younger friends, facebook with friends my age and older
crookshanks04
well i didnt vote and i hate to be negative but i dont really like either mad.gif

i guess maybe its because in my expirience all the girls i know use it to be well ( ) you fill in the blank

and all the guys use it as well a dating service to put it nicely

i guess it could be used for good though i just have not had the pleasure to expirience it yet!!!!!

I chose myspace but I don't really go onto either of them. One of the few times I do go on myspace is to see the professor ratings at my school. When I go onto Facebook its to see some of my friends. In the end, in my opinion for both, its just to see who has the most friends. I only add people I know biggrin.gif
Capricorn
Hehe, I could just as well comment. I didn't vote, because I can't decide. I like the freedom to express yourself that MySpace gives you, but on the other hand, that freedom does allow anyone to try their hand at HTML, and the result is not always easy on the eye. I'm talking about lay-outs that went completely haywire so you can't even find the person's profile pic, etc, or colours that most people would never think of putting next to each other. (Which reminds me, I think I want to change my colour scheme...) The other rather irritating thing about MySpace is the auto play function on music. It bugs me more than I can say. sleep.gif

But what I love most about MySpace are the surveys. I'm addicted and I probably annoy my friends very much, but I LOVE filling them in. They're awesome!

I like Facebook for the fact that it's more formal, and lets you connect to people you know. The profiles you view are mostly of people around you, or friends of friends, and because it is network bound, the chances that you stumble across acquaintances are much bigger. I've re-established contact with quite a few people who I hadn't seen in ages because we were geographically removed. tongue.gif

However, I get annoyed by the endless notifications that say "So and so thinks you should check out this new application". Getting lots of them with an accompanying email does get on my nerves.

I like the groups on Facebook more than those on MySpace. I've had some very stimulating discussions on Facebook groups about politics and the like, for example, which is something Myspace doesn't allow you to do so easily. And I usually have a lot fun with the status thingie... tongue.gif It gives me a chance to formulate within a sentence what's going on in my mind, and for some reason I find that very enjoyable.

They also have it set up where you're reminded of everything your friends or added people are doing. So friend X types in person B's account telling him/her to check out person V's facebook. That:

"Friend X wrote in person B's account: 'check out person V's facebook.'"

Gets displayed in your facebook as well as everyone connected. Kind of annoying in my opinion.
laughingirl_92
Well,I have facebook and I agree with many people that myspace is better because you can decorate your profile.Facebook does have a lot of interesting things so I really don't care.I was just wondering does anyone have facebook?
LilyPotter
Oooo I like this thread. Very interesting.

Well, I am told that you need to have a high school or college email address for facebook, so I've never used it. I didn't start on MySpace until I graduated college, so facebook was out.

I absolutely love MySpace. It allows so much creativity and individuality in its pages. Mine is (naturally) composed of nothing but Harry Potter pictures and information haha. I made my own Slytherin background, icons, etc. I love it.

Does everyone on here have a myspace? Maybe we could start a group on myspace for VTM members? Oooo, now that's a thought...

What do you think, Laurette? Shall I start one?
J-B-L 4 HP
MYSPACE 100% !!!!

its so cool

thanx for doing this thread capricorn because it didnt work when i tried it

guys my myspace profile link is in my signature!!

peace out
Capricorn
I don't know about any VTM groups on MySpace... just the INVAID profile. But it sounds great!!! I'll join!

Facebook now allows anyone to join, actually. It changed in the past few months, I think.

And no problem, J-B-L 4 HP. smile.gif Yeah, I saw that and opened it. Nice idea for a thread!
wait_siriusly411
I like facebook better because its easier for me to keep track of...and now with all the new applications and things you can put on your home page, you can personalize it more

Myspace all the way!!! jerry.gif jerry.gif jerry.gif jerry.gif

I like Myspace better. There was a point this year and last when I was on it alll the time. But now I'm starting to think myspace is actually pretty stupid. I mean, not completely pointless, because I actually talk to people on myspace that I don't get a chance to. Plus Myspace Messages are really useful. And the best thing about myspace is you can see others' profiles. On face book you can't.

Also, Myspace is for younger people, I think. I think of facebook for college and Myspace for highschool. And, all those "notifications" on facebook are annoying. They even tell you when your friends make friends. That's just ridiculous.

Even though I try not to go on Myspace obsessively, as I used to, because it's summer and during summer I'd rather enjoy the sun and school-free months, I still like Myspace more than Facebook.
Lauren0891
Facebook all the way! I used to be obsessed with myspace but I never use it now.

Anyone here got Bebo? I think its mainly a British thing. I love it though - more than Facebook.
Hoops52507
facebook is better and much safer too
GrintsGirl9
Myspace, it's so much more simpler!
liselion482
go myspace!!! ph34r.gif laugh.gif biggrin.gif tongue.gif i dont really know what facebook is anywy...go mysace!!! blink.gif
Vontsje
Myspace, because I use it more. but I don't really like those things, only use them once every 6 months
Chica16f
Myspace, that other thing i don't use.
Pawprint
A lot of friends of mine have not only Myspace but Facebook and Hi5 as well. I'll stick to Myspace just for fun, and Hi5 is much more simple than it. I haven't tried Facebook yet, and I think I never will... It takes time to check on the profiles, and I'm much more into coming here and discussing HP stuff (I'm in that "obssessed with HP phase" now) than checking on who's viewed my profile...
Eveie
Well, I don't have Myspace. But Facebook is fun and is worth trying. It got a lot of apps, and it's a fun way to chat with your friends.
Lily_Potter
I would say Myspace. Alot more people have myspace so it would be easier to find friends on there than on Facebook. I also like that it has more features and options for customizing your page.
E.Austen
I didn't vote because I don't use either.

They recently reported that it is almost impossible to take your name off Facebook, which is a reason to not join it. Somebody should sue them for that. I think there might even be some laws against it....? mellow.gif
sherrilina
Well Facebook is definitely better in that it's less sketchier than MySpace (or at least it USED to be before it was opened up to everyone on God's Green Earth! rolleyes.gif ), and is a nice way to keep in contact with friends/communicate with them and classmates, etc, and the status and groups are great as well....but it's kind of a different animal anyway from MySpace, since with Facebook it's your actual identity, while with MySpace it's not....
The Master of Death
I chose Facebook. It is a really enjoyable community where you can critisize have fun and rally. Facebook also caused the down fall of many communities which i was in before like Multiply and Zorpia
cristipotter
I voted facebook...I think it's safer and it's fun! I've never had a MySpace but I've seen some and they're not really my style.
nicky potter
i speak of experience of having both . & i must say that i'd rather prefer myspace any day . facebook is just so boring ! you really cant do much on it . which is pretty lame to be honest. i like myspace becuase you get comments & messages . put up pics & get comments . have alot more ways to personalize your page to make it seem like you (: i love to blogg . hehe . i got a facebook once because i have a friend who told me that its better . so i said what the heck let me go for it . the one thing that i hate that facebook does is that on the updates it says every little thing that you do ! i had a friend who wrote that she was in a relationship... a few months later the whole world knew she broke up with her boyfriend becuase it said that she was single & that she & her boyfriend were no longer together . i think thats a bit too much sleep.gif

that is completely true after i saw how boring facebook was , i was trying to find where to delete the account. it said that my account isnt deleted but its currently not in use & i can connect whenever i want to again & im thinking to myself NO i want to delete the entire account >.< how irritating that was
Emmas-man159
I chose myspace. For me, its just more personal. I mean, you can choose backgrounds and what not, where as facebook all the pages are just plain, and white. I dont know. Maybe its just me. If I'm going to have all my personal information posted online where any stalker can see it, I might as well make it original and something to match my personality.
gissgon
I happen to have both, but facebook is more for college students,or older(in my opinion)
so i consider myspace better. I have plenty of friends on there than i do on facebook
La MaitressedeMort
Facebook all the way. It's so easy to stay in touch there, and since I just finished High School, that's on my priority list. Not to mention the fact that facebook is so much easier to use, and takes less time loading. You know who people are by their name, cause like on myspace I'm RaistlinIncarnate. I think... Haven't been on in a while. I'm me on facebook, and it's so much nicer. Plus, can you hug people that easily on myspace?

Not to mention, To Write Love On Her Arms is on facebook. If you've never heard of it, definitly check it out. It's a great cause.

hey all, i voted for facebook, i don't particulary like MySpace, haha..Lauren0891 i have bebo, i think it's way better than either facebook or MySpace but that's my opinion biggrin.gif

It could be more of a british addiction but you never know laugh.gif laugh.gif

facebook...i'm in college so maybe that helps, because it seems like facebook is for those in college and onward, while myspace is traditionally before that. I used to have a myspace but I really found it less user friendly than facebook.

I personally think Myspace because you can really express yourself more freely. Such as designing your own layout and you can add songs that people can see more clearly. I also think it is much simpler and basic but more fun. However, I think there are many more people who use facebook while on myspace, most people only use it until they get into high school.
Josue_Avitia
Facebook all the way biggrin.gif
VeelaVixen
I have both but I prefer myspace. It's a lot more personal than facebook. You can customize myspace to actually reflect your personality. Facebook is just a white screen.
nox_mors_magnetic
I personally think Facebook's better.
It has it's own chat and stuff... tongue.gif
VeelaVixen
I have both. I prefer Myspace because it can be personalized much more than facebook. I think the white "wall" in facebook is too boring.
Facebook and myspace are so similar now, though. They've merged several of the features onto both formats. They both have chat. I just like being able to customize my wall. And I like being able to customize my home-page. White backgrounds are stupid.

Oops. I forgot that I already answered this. lol. Oh well. You all get my opinion on the matter twice. smile.gif
harryjpotter
I used to have a myspace and a music myspace but I quit a couple of years ago. I have never been on facebook and never intend to although i know a lot of people who are.
acidpop
I love facebook. I used myspace for a long time, but facebook is so much better. I like how you can easily find people by their names and find people at your school. There are a lot more ways to communicate on facebook. It just seems easier in general. Facebook i think is more effective when it comes to socializing and you don't have to bother with always trying to work on your layout.
PotterIsTheChosenOne
Myspace. I like Myspace heaps more than Facebook. I joined Facebook but cancelled my account because I thought it was boring.
Alicia Jonae
Facebook 100%!
I used to have myspace, but after hearing about all the stuff that's been going on about it, I quickly deleted my profile. Plus, you can find friends and family on Facebook that you haven't been able to keep in touch with. I love it. Yes, it used to be for College and High School students only, but anymore, it's for anyone. I love it happy.gif
mugglelovrspew
I happened upon Facebook one day, and I like it better than MySpace. I have both, because heaps of friends have a MySpace, but all of my olderish friend access Facebook more, and so do I. MySpace has and brings too much junk on it and my computer and it gets really boring. Facebook is simpilier. I mean, sure you can't change your background and stuff, but it has stuff on there that is way better than MySpace. It has better Apps and isn't as confusing, in my opinion.

I still use both, but barely get on my MySpace unless I need to ask a friend about homework or something. It's easier to communicate and find people. It's so much more flexible and stuff. laugh.gif
DeSs
I had a MySpace til yesterday. I created that account because I'm quite a reckless and sign up to everything I find. But I only added the stuff, pictures and that I make, my long profile, the profile song and added some wizarding bands ( tongue.gif ), and then didn't even try to find people or anything! Since I didn't start socializing from the start, it's like I didn't feel like doing it so later, and I didn't have time to make a blog or making it more personal despite I love decorating stuff. And I quit because my sister sent me a pm saying: "Sister! I have one of these things too, haha!" She told me she had found me only with my e-mail, and that'd be useful, except by the fact I didn't want any people to go through my stuff, haha. And so I decided to quit and start it over, whenever I make up my mind.
But also, my friends sent me invitations for Facebook! There you can only see anybody else's stuff being part of it, so I created an account... And had it for a few hours, haha. There's a lot of my contacts who have Facebook, but you're right, it's just so plain! That's on one hand, in the other hand, you say it's easier and friendlier to contact people, and as I've just finished high school, I suppose that'd be good to keep up with my friends and all.
I don't know where to sign up! Any suggestion?

What he said (lol)

In general, I much prefer facebook. It's just so so so so so so so much easier to use.
HJP/HJG_TrueLove
Facebook all the way! There is so much more ways to talk on facebook and send messages. It is much better when you have over a thousand photos (like me). My favorite application is Bumper Stickers, I probably have over a thousand bumper stickers too! I have had myspace longer, this summer I got a facebook account, well technically my friends made one for me (the only 3 people in my class that had it at this point), without me knowing. I didn't want one because at that point only 3 other people in my class had it. Now, almost my entire class has it!

PS: As of my vote we are at 50% each exactly. Both with 30 votes each!
steppy40
A couple years ago, I definitely preferred Myspace to Facebook. But with the additions of applications and boom in popularity, Facebook is so much more entertaining. I have a Myspace account that I rarely check and very few friends still use the website for networking. I communicate with all my friends on Facebook, it is just simpler to use and convenient.
ChannelingGinny
Facebook. I actually had to "suspend my account" for a brief time since I was addicted to it! I just felt that I spent way too much unproductive time there (as you could anywhere doing or not doing anything)!

I have found so many people that I had lost touch with over the years, and some of them through unlikely places (like a friend from church camp 25 years ago - I found on the friends list of one of my good friends that I had from elementary school through college... it was so random, but that's the neat thing about FB).

There is a VTM page on FB you should check out just for kicks. I've met some great people there!
