well hello everyone!!! as much as i am a harry potter fanatic i also have a spot for star wars and yes i admit i am a bit of a star wars nerd, so on to the point...

i now have permision to open a star wars thread so i would like to invite you to discusse anything you would like about the star wars movies!

and to start the thread off i have a question that i hope someone can help me with...has anyone else noticed that in star wars IV a new hope when obi-wan cuts that creature in the bars arm off it bleeds! that is what doesnt make sense to me i thought that you didnt bleed from a light saber wound.

in star wars III revenge of the sith when anakin and obi-wan were rescuing the cahncellor count duku asks anakin and obi-wan to use their swords (light sabers) so they dont make a mess in front of the chancellor.

also in III when obi wan fights general grevius he uses a blaster and comments on how un civilized it is.

so was it just a mistake or did they decide to change it later when they made more movies. but i have the old movies remastered also and they didnt change it so i dont think it was a mistake because i think they would have changed it... why is this happening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Padfoot, Prongs and Moony
Sorry I can't answer your question because I only saw Star Wars III Avenge of the Sith... but doesn't skywalker (I'm so sorry if that's wrong) or Darth Vader bleed when he was bured? I don't mean like blood everywhere, but his skin had blood on it... Me and my mom were planning on watching all of the Star Wars series in order since they made 4,5, and 6 first then 1,2, and 3.... So either someone else can answer that or I'll answer it when I watch all the movies in order (I would only have 3 days to do that!!)... I should be watching them soon!! biggrin.gif
deatheater13
I never noticed that. I have seen the movies dozens of times but I guess I never really paid much atention to the guy in the bar. I remember that in episode III (I think) Obi-Wan got cut with a lightsaber, just a little slice on his leg, but it was bleeding. But in episode I, when Qiu-Gon was killed, he didn't bleed at all. Ahh! I'm just confusing myself. Maybe fatal wounds don't bleed, but more minor ones do. I don't know. I'll think about this one and maybe I'll come up with something.
monkeymushroom
Anakin Skywalker was burned not done in by a lightsaber and so he has full permission to bleed (funny how we have to give them all permission to bleed eh laugh.gif). What i've noticed is that in episode IV: a new hope, Obi Wan Kenobi was killed by Darth Vader (aka Anakin Skywalker) and he just disintigrated, or disappeared. I don't get that. How come all jedis are supposed to still be there when they die when one of them doesn't. Perhaps he found a way to the spirit world i'm not sure.

Anyway, doesn't anyone feel they should do remakes of the 4th 5th and 6th movies? i mean the effects are soo outdated and parts of the story don't even make sense. They need to develop the storyline a bit. I'm watching the original movies with my dad at the moment and they just don't tie in with the new prequals; they need new actors, new characters, new technology (when i say new technology i mean the same stuff they used recently) and an extended view of what the outcome is so that everyone can go 'oooh' or 'oh my god i can't believe that happened!'. You know stuff like the bounty hunter in the V and VI movie - i always thought that this bounty hunter was the son of the one in episode II; stuff like that should be taken into consideration. And the fact that the baddies all have star trek suits don't inpress me one bit, when episodes 1, 2 and 3 were all set in contempory.
They need plenty more action in these movies and i just can't enjoy watching them when i just know both trilgies don't flow with one another.

I think the charm of the first 3 movies made is in fact their outdatedness (?). For those of us who were there the first time around, when they originally came out in the 70's, they are kind of iconic.

You say Princess Leah (sp) and you think CArrie Fisher, it's the same with the rest of the original cast....

Harrison Ford was Han Solo

Mark Hamill is Luke Skywalker and always will be.

You try to recast and remake these movies now, I think some of the stalwart, hardcore Star Wars fans will not be happy, especially if they were there in the 70's
Ygraine
Crookshanks, you're right, you don't bleed from a lightsaber wound, the lasers burns the viens shut so you don't bleed. (or something like that.) It's a continuity error is all. Star wars is full of them! It's the fandom with the largest, i think Buffy's the next one down IMO at least. There's a phrase that i've heard when you know some one's lying to you; 'You've got more continuity errors than star wars!' It's infamous for it.

To name a few.

- In the original triolgy the jedi vanish, in the new ones they don't (monkeymushroom pointed this out.)

- In Jedi Leia remembers her mother, but in sith Padmes dies about a minute after she's born.

- Obi-wan says 'Darth Vader betrayed and murdered your father.' If in the original plan Vader was to be Luke's dad destroyed would be a better choice of wording. (they use it enough in the latter films.)

- Obi-wan calls Vader Darth as if it's an actual name. IN the new ones we learn it's a tiltle like 'Lord.'

- Obi-wan says Yoda teaches him, in menance we learn that Qui-Gon did. (however they try fix this as Yoda teaches the younglings and one could say that Obi-wan was in this group as a child, however i doubt he would be old enough to be reckless, impatience etc that he says he is.)

- In Jedi (novelisation) there are sooo many errors about the relationship between Vader and his wife. A name nor occupation is ever mentioned. but Obi-wan says things like; 'When your father left, he never knew that your mother was pregnant.' In Sith the reason he falls is because he's trying to save Padme from dying in childbirth. and 'I took you to live with my brother owen.' In clones we learn that owen is Anakin's half brother, not Obi-wans. '...while your mother took leia to live as a princess on Alderaan.' Padme dies immediatley after the twins' birth.

-In hope obi-wan says that Owen didn't like the idea of Anakin going off to be a Jedi and should have stayed at home and farmed. There are sp many errors here I don't know where to start. A. Anakin and Owen met once and for like, ten minutes (movie time at least) and in the original plan for Hope, wasn't Owen Obi_wan's brother. What's with that?

Er, sorry. I've watched them all too many times. ph34r.gif I discuss things like this all the time with friends. I'm truely sad! laugh.gif

And, no, I'm sorry. If they remake the originals i might die. I love them, like elaine said, they're whole charm now aways is that they're outdated, the swordplay's poopy etc.. laugh.gif
crookshanks04
wow thanks for clearing that up Ygraine that was pretty much what i was thinking but i was not sure!! and i am also a pretty big starwars nerd so i have noticed those other things oh and dont feel to bad my friends and i also sit around and dicuss star wars (and HP of course)!

as for monkeymushroom i agree with Ygraine they could never remake the first three they just mean so much they are the origionals and even tho they are older they are way better than the new three!! the actors are better and the space creatures are better and the characters themselves were better!!!!!!!

you know i really love star wars but the one thing i have to say that i hate is the age difference between anakin and padmae. i think they could have done better than that!! it is just to wierd.
monkeymushroom
I'm sorry guys if what i suggested about the remakes had offended anyone, but its just like, its really frustrating how everything is still a bit out-of-sinc and wouldn't anyone feel much better about the movies if you could watch them all without getting confused, and feel really euphoric about how all the twists and turns make you remenicience about the very beginning. I wonder if, without changing the cast, movie makers could come up with a way of updating the software so that they could put all the new graphics into the original trilogy just to heighten the quality a bit - what do you guys think?
Its not just about the quality of the effects, either, its about the quality of the storyline. When you watch the original trilogy you begin to sense there isn't much awe about the storyline anymore and each film is only about 2 hours long or less. It would be nice if they redid it but with more general scope to the characters and so we can go more indepth about the entire two trilogies.
SpinJam
Ygraine,

I never realized how many inconsistencies there are in Star Wars! Ohmigosh. I don't think I can watch it again. At least with HP we have a beginning and now unfortunately an end, and it's mostly consistent. I guess that's what happens when you start with the middle trilogy, and work your way backwards.
crookshanks04
well yes i have to say it would be nice itf it was a bit more consistant and it would be really cool if they could come up with a way to fix the grafics and stuff without changing the movies (well the actors and stuff)! the new movies are really coll because all the cool grafic and scense and costumes and stuff and the old movies have some really cool creatures and scense that would be really awsome if they were redone its just that the oldness in the old movies is kind of what makes them so great! i mean if the new three didnt exist to compare them against i guesss it would be easier to see what they are really worth. i just dont think that they could get much better!!!
monkeymushroom
Nah, i still think that the original trilogy needs to be improved, majorly. Perhaps this might get the next generation into the whole lot. Ive got to say i prefer watching episode three because its got loads of action and it looks really believable. It would be nice to sort of relive the magic a little bit by take the older trilogies and updating them.
deatheater13
I think that re-doing the original trilogy would make it loose all of the magic it has. I mean, I know it seems corny and fake now, but when it first came out people were amazed. Before that special effects were non-existent. When George Lucas found a way to make everything seem more realistic than older movies, where ships "flew" on popsicle sticks and they only flew in a straight line. In Star Wars, the ships could dip and turn and looked like they were really in space.

Even though there are a lot of gaps in the plot in the trilogy, I think that re-doing them would just take away the charm that everyone loves. Plus, can you imagine how much hate mail George Lucas would get? tongue.gif
monkeymushroom
Yeah, you're probably right. I don't think my mind was seeing sense...although it might be nice if the storyline was clearer - but i watched the sixth movie earlier on tonight and i thought to myself *this has got to be my favourite movie out of the original three...its got a fantastic layout and the look is acceptional...i feel the same way about the third movie in our recent trilogy* (it must be something about the no. 3 which is giving me this pattern of feelings), but anyway i'm more impressed now with the way it progressed throught the series. The first movie (A new hope) maybe wasn't as good with the impact as the following two and that was what maybe made me *think* that they needed to be updated.

I habe to say---don't you guys just love the Ewoks? They're so cute and cuddly - like Stitch off of Lilo & Stitch, and my cat felix (a black and white fluffy Angora)
crookshanks04
well i have to say that my favorite old movie is IV a new hope and from the new ones I like the fantom menace. i like those ones because i think that they have some of the coolest aliens/creatures and it also has the best planets!

but i do have to agree with monkeymushroom the ewoks are awsome!!!!! they have a pretty boring planet though its a lot like earth really!
monkeymushroom

Isn't it fuuny how you like the two movies which are no.1 in each trilogy and i like the ones which are no.3 in each trilogy. There must be some sort of pattern going on here. It seems as if the first movies are always the low key ones and the last movies are always the more action packed ones; i think its they way they progress.
crookshanks04
wow your right kind of ironic!!!

i like those two i because i am girly and i like that there is more of the story in the first two. they work like this for me...

more of a story in the first two, filler stuff in the second two and fighting in the last ones (which is why they are my least facorites!)

so i would again agree with you monkeymushroom ...

monkeymushroom
Thanks. Its cool when people agree with me.
I am a girl too, but i think i would have to say i prefer films with enough thrill and excitement to get you going. I believe it is a godsent that the effects have improved so that movies can be now 100% better, but - although - i do agree that all the movies (even the first and second ones out of each trilogy) have goodness in them. I miyself don't mind low key and sometimes - depending on the movie - i prefer it, but in things like Harry Potter and Star Wars (all action-packed films...now) it works well that they have plenty of action and fighting.

Maybe the reason why fighting or action is prferred by some viewers is because it can sometimes make the acting more believable and hide some aspects of it which could have sounded/seemed too corny in some way , instead of all words and dialogue. If you've noticed, in the third movie there is much less dialogue yet the quality of the drama, as well as the look, is spot on.
crookshanks04
well i would have to agree with you again that...

well as we know the star wars movies were kind of low key and low budget (the first ones anyways) so the actors/actresses were not the best at the time either.

i really do like all the action in the third movies its just that all the action seems to be fighting and i think it adds to the quality if they are doing other things also!!!!!!!

all in all they are amazing movies they have so many good qualities too we should discuss some of them!!

like some of the outstanding characters...

i just love chewbacca. c3po and r2d2! they are all such superb examples of comic releaf! i cant believe that there is a person in both the r2d2 and c3po suits in the old movies!!!!
monkeymushroom
Yeah that is really quite interesting about R2D2. C3PO is obviously a man in a suit. Hah, i saw this behind the scenes of the 3rd starwars on dvd and it had c3po and the man had accidently fallen over a big sign and everyone was laughing. I was laughing too; it was sooo funny.
I have to say this (on my dad's behalf) that JarJar Binks is the best. I love him too, i just think he's the highlight of the second trilogy. Its a shame they only gave him a 3 second role in the 3rd movie.
crookshanks04
ya R2D2 and all the ewoks have midgets inside them how crazy (almost better that being computerized really)

and i have to agree with you i also love JAR JAR. some people think he is a really anoying character but i think he is great!!!

my personal favorite is CHEWBACCA!!
also i saw the extra with C3PO you were talking about and your right it was GREAT!!!!!
Ygraine
I just have to quote Simon Pegg in relation to monkey's post 'Jar Jar Binks make the Ewoks look like Shaft!' Hehe... sorry couldn't resist. But you liked him? He annoyed me... not so much when i first saw Menace, because Anakin annoyed me more, but looking back, pretty much everything annoys me about that movie now. In the latter ones he annoyed me more because he wasn't in so much, he would pop up when you were least expecting it.... I think he was definately there for the young ones and he did that well I guess. But, sorry I'm not a Jar Jar fan myself. tongue.gif laugh.gif

I must say that my favourite character is Han. I love him wub.gif and yeah, Chewie's great as well. I also love the droids. I like Padme too, I know most people don't. But I really like her and Natalie Portman is a great actress just... not in Star Wars so much tongue.gif
crookshanks04

ya i agree Ygraine i like padme also she is one of my favorite human characters!! i think they make her awfull in the third movie though (especially in the beggining when she is on her balcony in her nite gown talking to anakin... "so love has blinded you" blah blah blah...) they make her look so fake its really almmost scary how she looks!!!
monkeymushroom
Its strange, coz there have been plenty of reviews to suggest that Jar JAR Binks is the most hated character of all. But both me and my dad like him. HE'S JUST SOOO FUNNY. I don't know about anyone else. I personally don't mind Padme atall in the third movie, and i also didn't mind Anakin either in Menace. The boy who plays him (Jake Lloyd) was previously in Jingle all the Way. I used to have it on video. I have to say i definitely prefer him with more hair than he had in that film, but i did like it when he had it cut at the end of the Phantom Menace movie - as they had the big ceremony with the gungans.
My most favourite characters throughout the entire star wars legacy are:
1 - The Gungans (ie. Jar Jar)
2 - The Ewoks (they're soo cute and cuddly, especially that one who befriends Lea)
3 - R2D2 + C3PO (they make such a perfect duo and R2's cheekyness is just spot on)
4 - The enemy droids (if you watch the 3rd movie they make a funny noise at the beginning, where they are fighting Anakin and Obi Wan)
5 - Yoda (definitely!)
6 - Obi Wan (especially Ewen McGreger's interpretation - my dad doesn't like him but i do)
7 - Lea (she is my most favourite out of the Luke/Lea twins - he just gets too naive)
8 - Chewbacca (sooo sweet)
9 - Anakin (in star wars 1 and 3 are my favourite)
10 - Padme (i like, she's alright)
11 - Lando (Solo's friend)
12 - Jabba the Hut (everyone has gotta have him on their list - even if we don't exactly like him you can't ever have a star wars trilogy without Jabba in there. Funny how he had a wife)
crookshanks04
A right everyone we have talked a lot about the STAR WARS characters but does anyone have a favorite planet?????

mine is NABOO hands down!! i know i know its a lot like earth and kind of boring...well not to me i love BBQs and camping and well just plane being outside with my friends and family...of and i just love the underwater gungin cities they are awsome!!!! my boyfriends favorite planet is KAMENO(sp) its the planet made of water that obi-wan visits in the the 2nd movie attack of the clones.

and i would have to say that my least favorite planet would be the HOTH planet (the one that is all snowy in the 5th movie where the rebles keep there hidden base) i just couldnt stand all the snow all the time!!! i live in michigan and have a 3-4 month long winter every year and that is plenty for me!!!
X-Girl
I'm not a huge Star Wars fan. I like New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi but I didn't like the newer ones very much.
My favorite characters are Han and Chewie and R2. My favorite planet is hmm I dunno. I like the Wookie planet Kashyyyk and Endor I guess since they have the best creatues lol.

Does anyone play Star Wars video games? I like the ol dfirst person shooter Kyle Katarn games: Dark Forces, Jedi Knight Dark Forces, and Myseries of the Sith. Knights of the Old Republic was really neat too.
crookshanks04
hmmm

well im not a big star wars video game fan but my boyfriend is he likes the old ones (well all really) but he has the new one for playstation 2 that he is addicted to right now. i guess i think it i pretty cool to the grafics are good and you get to play as YODA and that is awsome!!!!!
Allie
I think I'm kind of in a minority among Star Wars fans in liking A New Hope the best. I think The Empire Strikes Back has the best storyline and the end of Return of the Jedi is great, but to me, there's just something about the first movie/book in any series.... I like Fellowship best of the Lord of the Rings (both books and movies), and even though the Sorcerer's Stone book had the least complex plot and the movie probably had the worst acting, I still consider it one of my favorites from Harry Potter. When I watched Star Wars for the first time, I liked The Empire Strikes Back the most, but over time I guess A New Hope has kind of acquired a nostalgic value for me... this is where the characters met, this is where it all began.... Also, the Cantina Band will always be the best scene in Star Wars, and that's all there is to it! happy.gif

Like many fans, I don't like Episodes 1-3 nearly as much as the old trilogy. I've watched each of the new movies only once, and the last time I saw Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith was in theaters... should probably see them again. Maybe that'll be how I keep myself distracted while I wait for Order of the Phoenix and Deathly Hallows. tongue.gif The lightsaber fighting is good and all that, but as others have mentioned you can't help but feel they paid more attention to special effects than the story. I also like Luke, Han, and Leia a lot more than the main characters in the new trilogy for some reason. Except Qui-Gon... he pretty much carried The Phantom Menace for me. Probably wouldn't have liked it at all if it weren't for him!
X-Girl
Yeah I liked Qui-Gon too. But I really didn't like any of the other Jedi. Obi-Wan was okay but I didn't like him as much in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Especially in Revenge of the Sith. Honestly Anakin falls in lava and instead of chopping off his head or something he leaves him there half-dead. dry.gif

Lol there more for littler kids but the Jedi Apprentice and Jedi Quest books are pretty good. Jedi Apprentice are before Phantom Menace and Quest are after.

Ygraine
X-Gril, i liked Qui-Gon too, the other Jedi seemed a bit stupid. In III The clones kill them, hello? Shouldn't they be able to sense that the clones are about to kill them, Yoda did. But then again, Yoda rules cool.gif

My favourite planet is Naboo as well monkey, it's beautiful! I also like Corellia, even though it's only described in EU. But I don't know if it's because two of my favourite characters are Corellian. Han Solo and Wedge Antillies? Come one, Wedge rules all! biggrin.gif
X-Girl
Lol yeah they probably should have Ygraine. Maybe they couldn't since Darth Sidius (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) was doing some forcy thing. Oh yeah and the jedi were just as bad 4000 years before the movies. They were sooooo annoying in a game we have set back then. shutup.gif

Corellia, all I've ever heard about that was Corellian ale, I think I've missed something....
Ygraine
X-Girl and Crookshanks04 I've sent you both Owls smile.gif You can read them by clicking on '1 Owl Waiting' at the top right of your screen (where it says My controls etc..)

Cheers.

Yeah, Corellian ale and Corellian Champagne too both meant to be pretty alcoholic wink.gif What's that game that you were playing? Is it Jedi of the Old reublic?

I'm not very big on computer games, mainly because I die very easily in them. However Lego Star Wars is brilliant! Even my friend who hates SW loved those games they're just... aww magic rolleyes.gif

Does any one know any good SW fanfiction? I've been looking and looking but all I can find is Force Bond series, which I've read already! Numerous times. So? Oh remember, you can't advirtise your own, but you can recomend other peoples smile.gif
X-Girl
Yeah you're right I meant Knights of the Old Republic. The sad thing is my little brother finished it about two weeks before me. Does anyone have the second one? We got it yesterday and can't make it work for the life of us. dry.gif

Has anyone seen the Clone Wars cartoons? They were on Cartoon Network and you can watch them on cartoonnetwork.com soemwhere. They were pretty good. It even covers Anakin becoming a Jedi at some point. I'm not sure if they're a whole half-hours episode worth though.

Sorry Ygraine I don't read SW fanfictions so I can't help you there.
coolcharm
I recently got X-wing from a cousin...problem is dont have a Joystick lol

Anyone played it ?

i recently completed JK Jedi Academy..was really good.quite old but still held up with graphics and game plan.
Mrmacbeth
If I had a choice between Star Wars movies or Harry Potter movies I would choose Star Wars every time. Every time.

My favorite movie is Episode V otherwise known as The Emperor Strikes Back

Least favorite is Episode II - Attack of the Clones

Favorite character is Darth Vader. Not because he's "evil" though. When you think of Star Wars you think of Darth Vader. Darth Vader is such a symbol of Star Wars that it doesn't even really matter if he was "evil" (He did turn good again) Darth Vader is just cool like that.

The music in Star Wars is awesome too. Star Wars isn't only about cool graphics and awesome lightsaber fights, that's why they shouldn't remake the old ones.

QUOTE

Even thought I agree that "Yoda rules" I don't believe that the Jedi were massacred because they were "a bit stupid". The clone troopers weren't plotting to overthrow the Jedi or anything, they were only following orders. To them the order to kill all Jedi is pretty much the same as taking out the trash or doing the laundry. Besides, the Jedi weren't expecting Darth Sideous to send the order so they were caught off guard. And Yoda? Well, "Yoda Rules!"
HJP/HJG_TrueLove
I agree Star Wars movies definitely top Harry Potter movies. Harry Potter movies are so disappointing because of the high expectations from the books, so far only Prisoner of Azkaban and Order of the Phoenix have not disappointed me but that is off topic. My favorite is probably Revenge of the Sith. Revenge of the Sith came out on my birthday and I still remember how mad I was when my brothers got to go to the midnight release and I couldn't because I had school the next day which by the way was the last day of school which means all we do is clean and mess around.

My order would go:

Revenge of the Sith (I loved all the light saber battles)
Empire Strikes Back
A New Hope
Return of the Jedi
Attack of the Clones
Phantom Menace (also released on my birthday)

My favorite characters are Yoda, Darth Vader, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Mace. I wouldn't consider the Jedis dumb, especially the Jedi Masters, reckless perhaps. Yoda was the only one able to sense the attack because he is more knowledgeable (I don't think that is the right word but I am going to use it) in the ways of the force than anyone except Vader and possibly Luke. I was so mad when Mace died because he was way awesome!
