I have the Harry Potter tapes for the PoA, GoF, and OotP! They are the American Edition by Jim Dale and they are almost as good as the movies with no picture... I would suggest buying them!

You mean the Audio CDs, right? May I know how much it cost you there? I don't mind in US dollar (I'll convert it myself) but I've been thinking of buying it soon...(especially when the DVDs didn't cost me as much as I originally thought! Yay!!)

I know someone else around here have them too...(wink, wink) *tee hee* At least it's from her I know this things exist, anyway... tongue.gif

If I were you I would buy the tapes over the CD's. Tapes as in cassettess. They are about 1/2 the price of the CD's. Here I will give you a link. Cassettess vs. CD's
zyra123
17 Cassettes?? 23 CDs?? But then, the book is really really thick. So, that's kind of expected... tongue.gif

Thanks for the link! Even though I'm very much tempted to buy the cassettes over CDs, I might go for CDs in the end. That way, I get to play it on my computer or in my car (whenever I get one!! tongue.gif) Yes, they are much more expensive than cassettes but the lifespan of CDs are longer, I think... and at least I get to jump from one chapter to another (like song tracks) ...or can I? unsure.gif

Thanks for the info, anyway!!

I also have a copy of all the Harry Potter audio books on my computer... Each book is one file but the quality is not that good.

Thanks for the links! I'm considering investing in them.. someone on here a while ago said that it helped them to realize many more things and actually come up with GREAT theories.

I need the soundtracks.. I don't have those. sad.gif

I'd love to but the audio cds but there really expensive here so i am unwilling to part with my money for them as of yet.

Plus i think if i bought them i would read the books less which would probably not be a good thing. smile.gif

I just completed my set of the U.S. HP audiotapes read by Jim Dale, who is fantastic! I listen to them them in the car or when I am working. They are really almost like listening to a radio play, because Jim Dale does such a great job. Very few readers can match him. I almost wish that the HP books weren't the first audiobooks I listened to, because they set the bar kinda high.

I don't have any, but I'm tempted to buy some. It would be awesome to just listen to it and create the visuals in my head.
Mrs Brisbee
If you aren't sure if you want to buy them (though I assure you they are worth it) it is possible your local library has them. You could check one out and give it a listen. That's what I did, and decided I needed to own them myself.

Several bookstores near me also rent out audiobooks, so that is another possibility to check out.

Who is the reader for the British version of the audiobook? I'm curious to know how he compares to Jim Dale.
audreypotter123

Having listened to both the US and UK versions of the audio books. In my opinion Fry is better than Dale. Also the American versions into music is extremely annoying smile.gif.

I really do prefer Fry's pronouciations of names and places. He has got a more magic, intriguing voice.
The Infamous Fish
I have (or had) all 6 of them (the american version). However, I have found that the Listening Library tapes break very, very easily. Has anyone else found this to be true? I had at least one tape break on each book I bought. Also, I checked two of the HP books on tape out at libraries, and found a tape broken in one of them as well, and also several other tapes that were close. I have also checked out two of the charlie bone books on tape, which are by Listening Library as well, and they were just about as bad (though they hadn't been listened to very often, for obvious reasons). I know that the CDs are a lot more expensive than the tapes, but you can listen to them more than once or twice! Really, don't risk it.

You like Fry better than Dale? huh.gif I haven't heard Fry, but I love Jim Dale. I think he's awesome. My wife keeps saying that they should have just had Jim Dale dress up in all the different costumes and play everyone in the movies! laugh.gif And the music on the american version is is so happy. I like it! "Dew dew dededew. Dew dew dededew. Dew dew dededew DEW!" smile.gif Anyway, I want to hear the british version now so I can compare myself. but where would I get it? More correctly, where would I get it for cheap or free? I do not have the money to rebuy the entire series...

I have Books 1-6 of HP from both Stephen Fry and Jim Dale. My preference is Jim Dale, but they are both good at their work. Other than the HP books, I don't listen to audio books. I only got them because, well, I don't know mellow.gif

Don't listen to tapes much anymore, cept when I'm learning a language or something.

I have them all and listened to all the books that way. They are awesome. I have the Jim Dale version. I went through OOTP and HBP very quickly. Within a couple days each. Great to listen to while you are doing something else.
harryjpotter
I'd love to own them and some day I plan to but they are so blooming expensive!
Some places are parading the english versions for up to a hundred pounds.
I saw them for sale in a shop recently in Gemany, english and german versions and the english ones were still twice as expenisve! What's with that??? GoF in english was 70 euros and the german version was 45 euros.
Mind you, the german books in hard back are 30 euros each - daylight robbery...
