Forbidden Kisses

Note:
This story is set during Harry’s 6th year.
Sirius isn‘t dead, he was just seriously injured at the ministry and is in a coma.
As the ministry finally believes Harry and Dumbledore they have lowered the -magic-outside-of-school- to 15.
Harry and Ginny aren’t going out yet, eventfully they do though.
Disclaimer: i don't own harry potter.

Chapter 1.

Harry knocked on the door and a moment later a plump woman with shocking red hair opened it. Harry smiled bashfully and the woman grinned, enveloping him in a huge hug.

“Oh Harry dear! You’re here ! We weren’t expecting you till morning! Now do come in dear, your looking awfully thin…and tall” she added as she led Harry into the warmth of the kitchen.

An hour and 3 bowls of soup later, Harry yawned and Mrs Weasly led him upstairs. “I’m very sorry dear but I’ve had to put you in with Ginny as Uncle John unexpectedly turned up and is up in Ron’s room, Hermione hasn’t arrived either yet so I hate to think where she will sleep when she appears…” Mrs Weasly was babbling as they reached Ginny’s door.

Mrs Weasly opened the door and pointed to a cot in the corner, she whispered goodnight, and left, shutting Harry in complete darkness. He whispered a spell and suddenly he could see in the dark, he looked over at Ginny’s sleeping form and smiled to himself- she looked cute when she was asleep. He climbed into bed and was soon happily snoring.

A heavy pressure upon his chest woke him in the morning. His eyes flickered open as he looked up at the fuzzy image of a beautiful girl. He smiled to himself and reached for his glasses. “Morning Ginny” he mumbled as the weight was lifted from his chest.
“I’ve been trying to wake you for ages, water, shouting, magic…” she said to a yawning Harry. “I had to sit on you!” she laughed as Harry smiled.

Half an hour later Ron, Ginny and Harry had packed a picnic and set off walking in the woods. They found a spot down by the river and set out the picnic with a wave of their wands. The trio sat down and messed around, or rather, Ginny and Harry did, Ron just sat and stuffed his face. They spent the afternoon making the most of the sun, they climbed trees, went paddling, walked for a while and just laid and sunbathed.
Just before they went home they had a water fight, using their wands as guns. Soon they were all soaked. Harry peeled of his wet t-shirt in front of a heavily blushing Ginny, she was looking at his toned stomach and chest and only stopped when Ron offered to take a picture for her. Harry sniffed in an embarrassed fashion and itched his nose, looking away, hoping neither of them had noticed him blushing.

They reached The Burrow just as heavy raindrops started to fall from the sky. They ran inside laughing, and spent the rest of the evening playing a friendly game of Exploding Snap in front of a roaring fire.

Later on Ginny glanced at the clock. 11:30. She slowly stood up stretching. “I’m going to go up to bed, Night night.” Ginny yawned. Harry looked at her and replied “ I’ll be up in five minutes as I don’t want to accidentally wake you up later.” as Harry said this a strange look flickered across Ron’s face, a mixture of disgust, worry and anger. Ginny noticed this and raised one eyebrow.

Half an hour later Harry was curled up in bed listening to the rain drumming on the window sill. A rumble of thunder echoed in the distance and lightening forked the sky.
“Harry? Are you awake?” Ginny’s voice asked worriedly.

“Yes”

“Oh.”

A moment later a small body slipped into Harry’s bed.

“Harry, I’m scared.”

“Of the thunder?” Harry asked as he placed his arms around Ginny, a strange feeling fluttered around his inside his stomach. He found himself strangely satisfied and comforted by Ginny’s presence.

“Yes, but… but… more.” she said as she rested her head on Harry’s chest. Harry gulped.

“Well…what else? The lightning? “

“Yes, but…more…I…family….you.” Ginny mumbled placing a hand on the back of Harry’s neck causing him to turn beetroot red in the darkness. What’s wrong with me? Harry silently thought as Ginny suddenly sat up, startling Harry.

“Aren’t you afraid him ? Afraid that he wants you dead? Afraid that’s he’s hunting you down? Afraid that he could kill everyone you love, everyone you care for?“ Ginny spoke all at once, her voice strong as she spoke but tears stung her face. Harry reached out a hand and stroked Ginny’s cheek, he felt strangely protective, he wanted to wipe away her tears, tell her it’s a nightmare, tell her she’s safe. But he could not lie.

“Yes” the one word seemed to hang in the air as Ginny laid back down, burying her face in Harry’s chest.

“I have nightmares every night, its always the same, it’s always stormy, he opens the door laughing, I scream for help, but he says ‘No-one is alive to hear you scream’ he then points his wand at me and then…and then I always wake up.” she shuddered as she finished and Harry placed his arms around her once again. He felt a mixture of feelings, anger, fear, sadness and… love. He felt peaceful with Ginny, the most peaceful he had in a long time. It felt right to be laid holding her, it felt right to comfort her, it felt right to have her in his arms, in his bed, but the minute this thought entered his mind he banished it, She’s Ron’s little sister he said sternly to himself.

“Ginny, I want to say you are safe, I want to say it is only a nightmare, I want to reassure you that it could never happen. But I can’t, because I can’t lie to you.” he whispered, breathing in her intoxicating smell. Her small form shook as she sobbed into his t-shirt. She knew he was right.

“Oh God Harry, I’m just so frightened and then when I think that you have to face him some day, I feel worse, I feel frightened for you, I care ab-” she stopped herself and returned to crying against Harry.

That is how they fell asleep, that is how they were found in the morning, that is how Ron found them.

Chapter 2.

Harry was woke by a loud scream from the doorway. He groggily sat up, groping for his glasses. “HARRY ! GINNY ! “ The voice shouted again. Harry finally found his glasses and placed them on his face. “What Ron?” Harry asked quizzically. Ron’s face went from pink to blood red in a matter of seconds. “Wh…wha…what ! ? WHAT!?” Ron spluttered, his finger pointing at Ginny. “THAT’S WHAT!” Harry looked down and saw Ginny laid there. Realisation dawned on his features. “Oh”

3 hours later and Ron was still completely blanking Harry and Ginny. No matter how much they tried to explain that there was nothing between them, Ron would not listen.

Ron went outside when Harry and Ginny entered the living room. Ginny sighed and Harry rolled his eyes. Ginny glanced at Harry and they followed Ron out. Ron saw them coming and tried to escape but they cornered him.

“Listen to us !” Harry growled, shoving his wand into Ron’s face. Ron had no option but to stand and listen.

Ginny explained what had happened whilst Harry nodded along.

“… so for god sake Ron stop acting like a spoilt kid and talk to us!” Ginny finished speaking and they both waited for Ron’s reaction. He nodded, but he was still looking at the ground. “I’m going to get a shower.” he mumbled before bounding off into the house.

No-one saw him until the following morning.

--------------------------------x------------------------------

That night Harry sat on the windowsill, gazing out at the full moon, thinking of what Ginny had said last night. Her words echoed in his mind “…you have to face him some day…” . He knew it was true but hearing Ginny say it, had made it sound more true to him than when Dumbledore had said it. He was worried, frightened even. Not of death but of what would happen if he died, what would happen to the wizarding world with Voldermort in control. He sighed, bringing his knees up to his chin. He hated the pressure. He closed his eyes. He hated been responsible for peoples lives. He sighed again. He wished he wasn’t ‘the chosen one’. A small hand on his back broke his train of thought. “Harry?” Harry turned around to see Ginny stood behind him.

“I thought you were asleep” he said quietly, subconsciously rubbing his scar.

“I -I couldn’t sleep. What are you thinking about?” she replied quietly, sitting down next to him.

“Stuff.” he glanced her expression and elaborated. “Last night. What you were saying. About Voldermort.” Ginny shivered as Harry thought for a moment then spoke again. “Why can’t you sleep?”

“I can‘t stop thinking about…some-one.” she blushed as she spoke, glad for the cover of darkness.

“Ginny. If you ever wake from a nightmare and need to talk, I’m here, just wake me up and I’ll be there for you.” Harry spoke suddenly and clearly. He smiled at Ginny and climbed into his bed.

Ginny smiled to herself and gazed at Harry before climbing into her own bed.

i know its not the most interesting chapter and Ron's reaction was predictable but it's sort of important to the story.

Chapter 3.

Two days later Harry, Ginny and Ron were playing quidditch when Ron let in a particularly bad goal and stomped off inside, leaving Ginny and Harry chasing after a ‘golden snitch’.

They saw it at the same time. They dived at the same time. Their hands were outstretched as they both scrambled for the ball but only succeeded in pushing each other off their brooms. They tumbled into the foliage. Harry hit the floor with a thud and two seconds later Ginny landed on top of him. Winded, Ginny just laid there, her hands on either side of side Harry, feeling the dry earth beneath her fingers. Harry just gazed up at Ginny’s eyes, too achy to move.

Harry reached up and tucked a strand of Ginny’s hair behind her ear, gazing into her eyes. Slowly he moved his hand to the back of her neck and pulled her slowly towards him, with bated breath.

CRACK!

Harry and Ginny jumped to their feet, drawing their wands. A cat with rings around its eyes darted from out of the woods. Both Ginny and Harry sighed a sigh of relief and bent down to pick up their brooms both blushing furiously as they caught each others eye.

5 minutes later they entered the kitchen and saw Professor McGonagall sat at the table talking in hushed tones to Mrs Weasly. Mrs Weasly looked up at the sound of the kitchen door and beamed. “Ginny! Harry! Hurry and go get ready, were having a party tonight!” Mrs Weasly ordered Ginny and Harry out of the kitchen ignoring their puzzlement.

Harry showered quickly and entered Ginny’s room with nothing but a towel around his waist and running his hand through his hair. Ginny looked up as he entered, looked him up and down and blushed. God, he looks good! Was the only thought in her mind.

Harry noticed her blushing and smiled sheepishly. He dressed quickly and they both went downstairs, the noise level getting higher the further downstairs they got.

Most of the Order was there, laughing and joking, drinking and dancing. Harry and Ginny joined in, dancing with each other. Harry couldn’t help but admire the way Ginny was swinging her hips but he caught Ron’s glare and quickly looked away from Ginny.

“Excuse me…EXCUSE ME!” Mrs Weasly shouted over the chattering people. Everyone turned to look at her as she blushed. “Right then, as I’m sure your aware, Sirius has been in a Coma for the past 2 months…” she was cut off by a loud cheer as a very weary Sirius entered the room. He waved at everyone, smiling in his charming way. Harry beamed at Ginny and grabbing her hand, he dragged her up to see Sirius.

Harry and Ginny stood by Sirius as everyone greeted him, it wasn’t until Sirius said to Ginny and Harry “Why didn’t I know you two are going out now?” that they realised they were still holding hands. Harry hastily dropped Ginny’s hand, laughing in embarrassment whilst Ginny mumbled that they weren’t going out.

Sirius cocked an eyebrow but said no more as everyone started dancing again. Harry and Ginny were dancing fast and furiously when a slow dance came on over the wireless and they slowed down. Harry placed his hands on Ginny’s hips and she placed her hands around his neck.

He could feel the tension between them as his lips brushed her neck, she shivered at this contact and pulled Harry’s face towards hers.

Harry spoke softly in her ear, “Let’s sneak outside” his words tickled and she giggled as she took his offered hand. Together they walked out into the night.

Harry placed his arm around Ginny’s shoulders when she started shivering, she snuggled up against him and they stopped walking when they reached the edge of the wood.

Harry turned round to face Ginny, she walked backwards slightly pulling harry with her and tripped over, falling against a tree trunk, pulling Harry on top of her.

He stood up straight and snaked his arms around Ginny’s slender waist and Ginny placed a hand meaningfully on Harry’s neck. She smiled to herself and Harry suddenly realised what he wanted, who he wanted.

He looked into her eyes and bent his head, slowly.

Their lips touched and a shiver of excitement went down Ginny’s spine as she hungrily kissed him back.

Chapter 4

Harry slowly awoke in the early morning light. Flashes of last night crept into his mind and smiled to himself as he looked at the sleeping form of Ginny.

He slipped out of bed and left a note on the bedside table for Ginny to find when she woke, with that done, he walked out of the room with one last lingering glance and went to get a shower.

---------------------------------x-----------------------------------

Ginny sighed and rolled over expecting to feel Harry laid next to her, what she did not expect was an empty bed. She immediately sat up with a frown on her face. She spotted an envelope addressed to her and reached out a hand to open it.

It read :-

Ginny,
We need to talk about last night and where it leaves us. Meet me at the ‘quidditch pitch’ after lunch.

-Harry x

Ginny frowned again. What was there to talk about? She loved him. She sighed once again and climbed of bed, deciding she had best go and meet him.

Lunch time was a tense affair for Harry and Ginny. Ginny was upset by Harry’s actions, as after last night, she really thought he loved her and no matter how hard Ginny tried, Harry ignored all through lunch. This in itself angered her and she could feel her temper rising. Some-how she resisted the urge to scream.

After lunch she walked slowly to the ‘quidditch pitch‘, trying to think what she would say to him, how she would make him see they were meant to be together.

Harry stood watching Ginny as she steadily got closer, his hands were in his pockets and his shoulders were hunched. She soon reached him, but he did not say anything. Where should he begin?

Eventually he spoke. “Where does it leave us Ginny?” the simplicity of the question threw Ginny for a moment.

“I don’t know Harry, I don’t know.” she said quietly as she shook her head. She desperately wanted to be with him but how could she tell him when he did not love her?

“I mean…” he shook a hand and continued speaking “… I mean, you go out with Dean, Ginny… and well… what about … Ron?”

Ginny looked at the floor before she spoke.

“What does it matter about them Harry? Ron, Ron will get over it and Dean need never know” she said fiercely.

“I can’t do that to Dean or Ron, and anyway, I want us to be more than just a summer fling.” he spoke quickly, his heart beating fast.

Ginny could not believe it when she heard him say that, he wanted to be more … Without thinking she reached up and kissed him, smiling as she did so.

But Harry pulled back, shaking his head. “No Ginny, don’t! I do like you, well… (he laughed) maybe a little more than just like, but I can’t do this to Ron and Dean. Its - Its not fair on them. I value Ron’s friendship and I don’t want to jeopardize it!”

“Ron will get over it! And Dean ! - well he’s probly with a different girl every night! And it’s not him I love!” a now distraught Ginny exclaimed, tears starting to spring up in her eyes.

Harry desperately wanted to hold Ginny, to tell her sorry and kiss her again, but he knew the difference between right and wrong and having an affair was most definitely wrong. So he just stood there, rather awkwardly, waiting for Ginny to speak.

“Harry, you know how I feel and well… just … just think about it, yeah ?” Ginny said whilst wiping her tears away. She swiftly turned and walked away leaving Harry feeling the loneliest he had in a long time.

Chapter 5

Harry spent the rest of the day staring moodily at the fire, trying to work out if he should be with Ginny or not. He knew it was wrong to be with her, whilst she was with another, but still his heart longed to hold her in his arms again, longed to tell her he loved her.

He spoke to no-one all day until his godfather stood in front of him and asked him what was bothering him. Harry merely shrugged until an idea clicked in his mind. He suddenly stood up and dragged Sirius into the kitchen.

“Sirius, Ginny and I - last night … we…” he stopped talking and took a deep breath. “I want to be with Ginny, she wants to be with me, but well, she … she goes out with some-one else and then there’s Ron, he - basically he would never speak to me again if I went out with her.” he stopped talking again and tried to calm his mind.

“Earlier on, I told her last night was a mistake, that I value my friendship with Ron and Dean too much. She told me to think about it. What - what do you think I should do?” Harry stopped again and waited for his godfather to speak.

“First of all Harry, what did you do last night?” he asked with an amused expression playing on his handsome features.

“We just, we just kissed.” Harry spoke quickly, very embarrassed.

Sirius raised one eyebrow but spoke again. “If you love her don’t give up this chance, Ron will probly come round and Dean, well… I can soon sort him out for you.” Sirius finished by holding up his wand and looking grim.

Harry laughed and left the kitchen his mind buzzing.

That night he laid in bed, his mind still ticking, he watched as Ginny slept, thinking how beautiful she was. He sighed to himself, angry that he had upset her. He wished Hermione was here, she would know how to solve his problem, Sirius had only helped to a certain extent.

Harry suddenly climbed out of bed and went to sit upon the window sill again. He leant his head back and resumed watching Ginny. Hermione. A frown creased his brow. Whhy had she not arrived yet? He hoped she was fine and in no trouble with Voldermort or his death-eaters. He frowned again, worried now.

Then he sighed as he thought this. Everything was because of Voldermort. All the sadness, all the fear, all the deaths, all the panic, all the despair. He sighed yet again. A sudden yell startled him. He looked to Ginny and saw her thrashing around. Nightmares.

He leapt from his seat and quickly shook Ginny awake. For one moment, wild panic shone from her eyes and she screamed again. Harry sat down besides her and held her close to him as he gently stroked her face.

“Harry, Harry! It - it was worse this time… you … you were there!” her small voice sobbed.

“It’s ok Ginny, I‘m here for you.” he spoke calmly, surprised by his own voice.

Ginny sat up and lent against Harry, feeling secure in his arms but still shaken from the nightmare. She sobbed quietly into his chest, starting to notice their proximity, their closeness.

Harry stroked her face, his anger had Voldermort had grown. How dare he upset her like that ! How dare he scare her ! He could feel the hot anger bubbling in his stomach, reminding him of his task he would have to face one day.

Slowly, Harry stood up and carried Ginny over to his bed. He covered her with the blanket and slipped in next to her. She had stopped crying by now and softly spoke into the darkness “Thank you for saving me Harry.”

Chapter 6

The next day Harry was laid on his bed looking at the moving pictures in his new Quidditch Book whilst Ginny was sat working on an essay for Snape.

Harry looked over at Ginny and chuckled slightly at her small frown of concentration. He knew what he had to say to her, what he didn’t know was how. He cleared his throat and spoke nervously.

“You know what we were … discussing yesterday?” Harry said slowly.

Ginny merely nodded, still looking at her essay. Harry took this as a sign to continue. “Well… I’ve been thinking about it and… well… “ he stopped and took a deep breath. “well… I do … want to be with you that is.” He paused as Ginny looked up at him not daring to believe what he was saying.

“But…?” she inquired knowing there was more.

“But, if were to be together, then you have to finish Dean.” Harry spoke clearly, his voice strong whilst his insides shook.

Ginny answered carefully, going and sitting next to him. “Harry, I do want to be with you, more than anything else, but … well, I’m not heartless enough to finish dean by owl! I only finish people in person, so if you can wait until September…” she trailed off, not sure how to finish her sentence.

Harry looked at her, he could feel his heart beating madly. He didn’t know what to say, he didn’t know if he would be able to wait until September He wanted her now.

“Harry, say something!”

But he didn’t, he looked deep into Ginny’s eyes and kissed her.

The door burst open and Ginny and Harry sprung apart as a girl with big bushy hair and a grinning Ron walked into the room.

“Hermione’s here!” Ron said in a sort of daze, failing to notice that both Harry and Ginny were blushing and were short of breath.

Harry smiled at Hermione and gave her a hug. “Great to see you again!” Ginny hugged her too and then the four of them went downstairs as dinner was ready.

-------------------------x-----------------------------

After dinner the four of them went outside to walk in the woods before dark. Ginny kept catching Harry’s eye, wishing he was alone with him again. Ron kept shooting Harry and Ginny funny glances, not sure why they were so quiet whilst Hermione spoke for England.

An hour had passed and darkness had fallen when they made their way back, Harry and Ginny lagged behind slightly whilst Ron and Hermione walked ahead.

Under the cover of the dark, Ginny slipped her hand into Harry’s as they kept walking, as the coldness grew she hung onto his arm, searching for warmth.

When they reached the Burrow, Ginny went to get a bath and Ron fell asleep in front of the fire. Harry knew it was his chance to speak with Hermione about Ginny.

He took her into the kitchen and he explained what had happened with Ginny and him, he held his breath as Hermione frowned for moment and then beamed at him.

“Finally!” she exclaimed.

“Wh-what do you mean? Your not annoyed or or-”

Hermione cut him off laughing. “Well… of course I think its wrong what your doing to Dean and that, but well, she’s liked you for ages and you make such a good couple. I just - I Just wouldn’t tell Ron until she’s broken up with Dean, and even then he probly won’t talk to you for a while”

Harry just agreed with her and went to find Ginny to tell her the good news.

---------------------x----------------------------

The weeks passed and Harry was happy, very happy. Ron didn’t know and Hermione kept beaming at him. He felt on top of the world, that is, until 3 days before going back to Hogwarts.

Harry and Ginny had been ‘walking’ in the woods (or that’s what they had told Ron and Hermione) when once again darkness had fell and they had made their way back to the burrow.

They had walked into the kitchen and saw two people kissing furiously. Harry and Ginny had tried to sneak out, but it had been two late, the two people turned round.

“Hermione!” Ginny exclaimed.
“Sirius!” Harry laughed.

Hermione and Sirius stood there looking sheepish whilst Ginny and Harry both roared with laughter.

“Way to go mate!” Harry said eventually still laughing, clapping Sirius on the back.

Relieved Sirius laughed too. “You er- you mean you don’t mind?”

“Well, its against the law but . . . Its up to you isn’t it?” Harry had said and he and Ginny had left the kitchen still laughing.

Chapter 7 Part 1

That night, Harry went to bed full of ease, it seemed his life could not get more perfect. Ginny loved him. He had his godfather back and he was alive. He grinned in his sleep ready for diagonal alley in the morning.

“Harry we have to stop this” a small voice startled Harry and he sat up.

“Wh-?” he started to speak but found he couldn’t.

“Harry, this - whatever this is, isn’t right and well… I think we should stop it in - in time for Hogwarts” Ginny’s voice sounded small and scared.

Harry felt his temper flare inside him. “You - you were the one that wanted us to be together in the fist place! You were the one that wanted this!” Harry felt hot anger bubble in his stomach, his voice strangled as he spoke.

“What !? So you never wanted this you never said you wanted to be with me! You were the one that was bothered about Ron!” Ginny instantly snapped back, her own temper rising.

“Well I - Wait a minute - what the hell has Ron got to do with this?!” Harry paused and thought. “He knows doesn’t he?” he said quietly.

“No!” Ginny spoke fiercely. “well… not quite… it’s just … comments.” she tailed off, mumbling.

“Comments? What do you mean comments?” It was Harry’s turn to speak fiercely.

“Well… the other night he took me off to a side, he asked if there was something between us and I denied it obviously and well… he said good because if I ever find out then I swear I will never talk to you or Harry again and he also said something about curses”

Harry looked at her, his eyes blazing in the darkness. The anger was threatening to burst and he needed to let it out. “I can’t believe you Ginny! You were the one that told me to ignore Ron, the one that told me that you didn’t care about what he thought! And now, and now …” his voice was a low, threatening growl as he trailed off, breathing heavily.

She waited two minutes before turning round and saw Harry laid with his back to her, on the other side of the room. It killed her to do this to him, it killed her to lie to him like this. But Ron had made it clear, if she didn’t end things then … she cried into her pillow, hating Ron for what he was doing to her.

Chapter 7, part two.

[center]*

Harry was sat in an empty compartment staring blankly out of the window of the Hogwarts Express. He sighed deeply, his heart aching. He turned his attention to watch people glance at his seemingly empty compartment that contained only luggage, as he was sat under his dad’s cloak. He laughed to himself at the bemused expressions, feeling very alone.

The door flew open, and a redheaded girl entered, pulling a laughing boy behind her.

Ginny glanced around, taking in the snowy owl but thinking nothing of it, she pushed Dean down onto a seat and promptly sat on his knee, kissing him with a venomous passion.

Harry felt sick. He watched as she ate his face, running her hands through his hair, saying how much she had missed him, saying how boring her summer had been, how lonely, how cold it had been without him to warm her.

Harry stood up at once and pulled the compartment door open, his temper threatening to erupt. The kissing couple didn’t even realize. He slammed the door shut waiting for the shocked reaction but none came.

Feeling angry he stood, not knowing where to go. He glanced at the couple and nearly choked, Ginny had slipped her hands up Dean’s shirt and he was kissing her neck. Harry stood there, breathing heavily, as the anger pulsed through him, tainting his common sense and causing sparks to shoot from his wand.

It was obvious to him then, the real reason she had ended things with him, she had wanted Dean, not him, she had simply used him to pass time, she didn’t really love him and, he suddenly realised, she had caused him to ignore a very confused Ronald for the past couple of days.

He looked back over his shoulder again and suddenly realised what he should do. Smiling in a grim, satisfied sort of way, he became visible once again and entered the compartment at speed, pretending he was running from some-one.

He put on a harassed expression and leant against the door breathing heavily as the couple broke apart, Ginny promptly got off Deans knee, turning her face away to hide the tears that had to sprung to her eyes at Harry‘s look of confusion and hurt. Dean just left, his face burning, leaving Ginny and Harry alone together.

“So Ron threatened you huh?” Harry’s voice rang with the accusation that was feeding his anger, he deliberately avoided her eyes, knowing his own were pricked with tears.

Ginny too avoided eye contact. She nodded slowly, guilt starting to nibble at her.

“Looks like you certainly got over me quickly. Good for you.” He tried to keep his voice polite and conversational but he could not stop it from shaking with the anger he was feeling.

Ginny murmured in her throat and suddenly met Harry’s eyes.

“I still love you Harry.“ She looked as his pools of emerald softened slightly but instantly hardened again. She hated it when Harry was angry with her, especially when it had been her that had made him so angry.

Harry gave a dry laugh and shook his head “Yeah, certainly looked that way.” He paused to look at Ginny, still in shock that she had the cheek to say that to him. “If you do love me so much, then why let Ron stand in our way?” he asked mockingly, knowing she would give no answer.

She stood there in stony silence, her heart beating wildly as she looked at Harry, his hand clenched inside his robes; gripping his wand, his eyes narrowed as the hurt, the anger, the pain clouded their beauty, his face pale, and his grimace as though in pain.

She felt her heat leap out to him. “Oh Harry…” she began to speak but was cut off by the arrival off two prefects.

Ron glanced suspiciously at his sister before throwing himself down by the window and grabbing a chocolate frog.

Hermione paused at the doorway and frowned as she noticed Harry’s expression and posture.

Harry wanted to lash out at Ginny, make her feel the pain he was feeling, make her feel the anger he was feeling, make her feel the betrayal he was feeling. He looked over at Ron and suddenly got an idea.

Harry spoke deliberately slowly. “Guess what I found Ginny doing Ron?” He wanted to cause Ginny as much pain as she had caused him. Ginny gave Harry a pleading look, shaking her head slightly, knowing Harry would make it sound worse than it actually was.

Ron climbed to his feet and folded his arms, glaring at Ginny. Harry opened his mouth to speak but was cut off by Hermione. She grabbed his arm and pulled him outside. For the first time, he noticed how red her eyes were.

“Have, have you been -?” he was cut off however, as Hermione held up a hand to stop him.

“Harry, I know your angry with Ginny, but this honestly isn’t the way to solve it!” He took a step back, surprised by her tone of voice. This was the angriest Hermione had ever been at him.

“It might not be the way to solve it, but it will certainly make me feel a hell of a lot better.” he said sourly, poison pumping through his heart.

“Don’t do this to her, you still love her and you know it, it hurts like hell, I understand that Harry, but, just don’t…” she trailed off as tears began to trail down her cheeks.

Harry looked down at her and made up his mind in that split second.

He stepped back into the compartment, he glanced at Ginny, then at Hermione before finally glancing at Ron, he opened his mouth and spoke.

“I - she - she was making rude hand gestures at people as they passed the compartment.” Harry lied, his voice flat and bored.

There was an audible sigh of relief form both Ginny and Hermione whilst Ron looked at Harry with an odd expression before bursting with laughter.

“That - that was it ?” he spluttered, still laughing. Harry nodded dumbly. Ginny smiled at him slightly but he looked away pointedly, he had not done that for her.

“I thought she had been snogging someone or something, by the look on your face.” Ron carried on speaking, having clearly fallen for Harry’s lie.

Harry laughed weakly and glared at Ginny, his feelings of anger softened slightly but they were still boiling just under his skin.

When eventually they all sat down again, Harry turned his attention back to Hermione. Wanting to know if his suspicions were correct.

“Hermione, wh- what’s wrong ?” he asked carefully, not wanting to provoke her anger again. She shook her head slightly and glanced warily at Ron. Her voice was small when she spoke.

“Nothing, nothing at all” her smile was forced and Harry frowned. He stood up and stretched, he looked pointedly at Hermione and walked out the compartment. He walked along the train for a little while and then he stooped and turned round and found Hermione one step behind him.

“So what’s wrong?” Harry asked, his voice brimming with concern, a sinking feeling in his stomach.

“Is it, is it Sirius?” he asked quietly as Hermione suddenly burst into sobs and flung her arms around a very dazed Harry.

“I’ll kill him” he growled under is breath, so only Hermione heard him. She shook her head slightly and let Harry go.

“No, it wasn’t just him, it was R - it was Ron as well.” Hermione paused, staring avidly at a spot on the floor. “He, well, he found out about Sirius and I.” she paused for thought and glanced briefly at Harry’s expression. Anger. “he, erm, he threatened to tell everyone about us and he threatened to have Sirius arrested, and so, we sort of, broke up” her voice had gone small once again and Harry could tell she was fighting the urge to cry again.

Harry shook his head angrily. “I’ll set Sirius straight Hermione, I‘ll talk to him for you.” He growled again in a low voice. Hermione barely nodded, not sure if it was a good idea or not and the pair made their way back to Ron and Ginny.

When they entered, Ron shot a death glare at Harry for some unknown reason and promptly turned his attention to his Fizzing Whizzbes, his eyes burning again with what looked like jealousy and anger.

Harry went to sit down just as the train lurched. He was thrown onto the lap of a very unsuspecting Ginny.

Both blushed bright red as his face stopped just centimetres away from hers, his arms either side of her whilst she had her arms around him, to try and stop him falling. Both stayed in the same position until a very nervous cough came from the doorway and they both looked up, springing apart as they realised what they were doing.

“Dean.” Ginny muttered under her breath, before standing up and going to give him a hug.

*

An hour later they were sat in the Start of Term Feast and Harry found himself sat opposite Ginny.

Despite his anger at her, he could not stop himself form admiring her soft shiny hair, or her dainty nose or her kissable lips. His stomach gave an uncomfortable lurch when he realised he had been staring and Dean was looking at him in a very affronted manner.

They listened to the sorting and eventually the food appeared on the golden plates. Ron started filling his plate at once whilst Hermione just picked at her food.

“Suwawahgoinonbtwinyoonermykneeodatrin” Ron asked with his mouth full. Harry looked at Ron trying to decipher what he had said. Ron quickly swallowed and repeated his question.

“So what was going on between you and Hermione on the train?” Ron asked again, jealousy flashing in his eyes. Harry frowned again.

“Nothing Ron!” He snapped instantly, his anger at Ron returned when he realised it was actually because of Ron that Sirius and Hermione had broke up.

Ron shook his head as if he didn’t believe him but at that moment a distraction arrived in the shape of dessert.

After the golden plates had been cleared away, Dumbledore stood, his gaze sweeping the Great Hall before he spoke.

“Our beds await us!” he held his arms wide open and dismissed the sleepy students. There was a small cheer punctured with many yawns as the whole school made its way towards their dormitories.

The Gryffindors reached their common room and there was many calls of goodnight before it was all but deserted for four students sat in front of the fire, one snoring loudly and three conversing.

Ron stood up, stretching and glaring at Harry then looking at the two girls. He jerked a thumb at the dormitories and walked towards them, anger in his stride but none of the girls knew why this was.

Hermione quickly stood up and left with a muttered “I’m off to bed too” Leaving a very disgruntled Ginny with a sleeping Harry.

She turned to him and watched him as he slept, as the fire light flickered on his handsome features, as his glasses slipped down his face, As his body twitched and his cheeks blushed. What she wouldn’t give to kiss him on those sweet lips again . . .

It was a moment before she realised that two green eyes were looking back at her. He smiled as he saw her looking, staring, studying him.

He reached out a hand and gently stroked her face as a tear dripped down her cheek.

“Wh - what’s wrong?” he asked half asleep, his anger at her had practically dispersed at the sight of her crying, at the sight of her so vulnerable, so wanting, so frail. His voice was gentle and soft, nothing like the harsh tones he had used earlier on.

She moved closer to him, his scent overpowering her common sense, a frown quickly flickered across his face, his eyes widened as she got even closer.

Her lips were a mere centimetre away from his when she spoke softly and quietly.

“You.”

Without knowing what she was doing, she closed the gap and kissed him lightly on the lips.

Chapter 9

Harry instantly pushed her off him. Frowning, he looked down at her, the anger beneath his skin had risen immediately. How dare she! How dare she try to kiss him!

Harry shook his head in disbelieve at her, “What the hell are you doing !?” He was practically shouting. “What about Dean Ginny? I only lied on the train because Hermione asked me to, I never did that for you!” Harry got to his feet and looked down at Ginny “You had your chance and you blew it!” Harry gave her one last chance to reply, she never.

He strode up the stairs to his dormitory and flung the door open, throwing himself down on his bed, he shut the curtains with such venom that they broke. He sat there breathing heavily trying to calm himself down.

He stood up at once unable to keep still and started pacing the room, he kicked his bed as he passed it but it only resulted in gaining a painful throbbing toe. He growled in frustration, swearing loudly, he sat down again just as a very angry Ron looked at him.

“What’s the matter with you! People are trying to sleep in here!” Ron snapped at Harry and promptly turned around trying to sleep again.

Harry made a face once his back had turned. He spotted the marauders map and decided to calm himself down elsewhere. He picked up his dad’s cloak and made his way downstairs.

Ginny was still sat in the common room and looked up at the footsteps on the stairs. Harry glared at her and crossed the room wrenching the door open and leaving.

Ginny watched him, frustration clutching at her. All she wanted was Harry not Dean, but how could she make Harry see without actually alerting Ron to the fact. She stood up and in a split second knew what she must do.

She ran out of the common, following the light at the end of the corridor.

Harry heard footsteps behind him and checked the map. Ginny. “Give me chance to explain Harry, Please, just one chance.” she whispered softly in his ear, expecting him to push her away, to tell her to go back to the common room, but he didn’t. Instead he lifted up the cloak and let Ginny under it.

They reached the Room of Requirement and entered it. Inside was what looked like an empty stone room, with a punch bag in the middle and a freezing cold atmosphere, she frowned as she had no idea what room Harry had wanted. Harry walked in and threw himself down on a bench near the door, he pointed at the space next to him and she sat down, on edge.

“Explain then” he spat at her, glaring at her face but she refused to meet his gaze.

“It’s Ron! He is in a fowl mood because Hermione rejected him, she told me! Harry I love you. I want to be with you! But Ron can’t find out about us! I really enjoyed been with you this summer”

“Yeah, so why tell Dean that you had a boring summer? That you missed him! It certainly didn’t seem like it was me you wanted to be with!” he said spitefully, forgetting he had been under the invisibility cloak at the time.

“Well I - hang on, how did you know I said that to him!?” Ginny looked at Harry, clearly confused.

Harry quickly decided it was best to be truthful. “I - I was sat under my invisibility cloak when you two came in. I walked out once you said that though!” Harry looked away, embarrassed.

“So no-one was chasing you, were they?” Harry shook his head and much his disbelief, Ginny laughed.

“What?”

“Well, I owe you a thank-you I suppose. You saved me just in time!”

“What - thank you? I - I saved you?”

“Yes. I was bored.” she said simply and Harry looked her in the eyes once again.

“You still shouldn’t have kissed me though!” his voice was no longer snappy or angry and his eyes had softened again. “It’s not fair on Dean!”

“You didn’t care this summer!” Ginny retaliated instantly.

“You didn’t care about Ron this summer.” he spoke softly and when Ginny never spoke he carried on. “It was because of him that Hermione and Sirius broke up” he added conversationally, wondering how Ginny would take the news.

“Sour grapes if you ask me. Hermione turned him down and Ron didn’t want anyone else to be happy whilst he wasn’t.” Ginny sounded plainly annoyed with Ron.

She leant against Harry, he tensed at first but then relaxed, playing with her hair.

“I hate him for what he did to us this summer.” she spoke quietly and Harry murmured in agreement.

“Ginny, I just have to say this. If you really want to be with me, then why are you letting Ron stand in our way? What has he done to you?” Harry’s tone was inquisitive and concerned.

Ginny hesitated before speaking. “Harry, you would hate me forever if you ever find out and I don’t want you to.” she sounded scared and Harry noticed this.

“Hate is such a strong word, I could never hate you!” Harry tried to reassure her, but found he could not as it only resulted in Ginny bursting into tears. He pulled her into a hug and spoke softly in her ear. “Let’s go back and just for the record Ginny I love you too.” she stopped crying and turned round to face Harry.

“Prove It!” she whispered and the next the thing she knew, he was kissing her.

Chapter 10

An hour alter they returned to the common room, Harry’s anger had subsided slightly but when he entered his dormitory and saw Ron snoring, part of his anger returned.

*

He awoke in the morning and hurriedly got dressed, determined to talk to Ron before everyone awoke.

“You’re a complete prat Ronald!” the shrill tones of Hermione met Harry’s ears as he descended the stairs. Ginny whom was sat watching Ron and Hermione argue, smiled apologetically at Harry as he sat down next to her; they had got to him first.

“We tried confronting Ron about what he’s done.” she muttered in an undertone to Harry. “But it didn’t go well.” Hermione burst into tears and Harry suddenly stood up, pulling out his wand.

“Ron, GO!, GET LOST! NOW!” Harry bellowed, Ron had taken things too far. He paused for a moment and opened his mouth but catching the furious look on Harry’s face he quickly left the room.

*

Ginny, Hermione and Harry did not speak to Ron all day. But when they were sat down at dinner, Ron appeared in the Great Hall, looking rather sheepish. He hurried over to them and sat down next to Hermione, turning to face her.

He took a deep breath. “Hermione, I’m - I’m sorry.” he finished lamely and looked at her. When no-one spoke, he carried on. “I realise that I had no right to say anything to - to Sirius and - and you, I just didn’t want you to get hurt.” Harry and Ginny glanced at each other, not sure where Ron was going with this.

“Your right. You had no right to threaten Sirius and I, he’s old enough to be your father and if you had cared about me, you wouldn’t have done it.” she spoke calmly, but avoided Ron’s eye. “You ruined all our summers Ron! Just because I said no to you!” this time, she looked into his eyes, tears threatening to burst.

“Look, I had no right saying anything to Sirius and you but I had the right to say something to Ginny! She’s my little sister ! And I don’t want her to be forced into things.” he said with a side glance at Ginny and Harry. Ginny shook her head and Harry snorted and quickly pulled his hand from Ginny’s leg.

“How can you think I would force Ginny into things!?” he spoke slowly, clearly restraining himself from hitting Ron. “I would never NEVER force -”

Ginny grabbed Harry’s arm and cut him off. “Harry! I-go-out-with-Dean” she said warningly, through gritted teeth and Harry looked around, people were watching curiously. Fuming, he stood up and left the Great Hall, Ginny soon followed him. Hermione watched them leave before turning back to Ron.

Once in an abandoned corridor, Harry swung round, pushed Ginny against a wall and kissed her, surprised Ginny played along for a while before pulling away, suddenly looking worried.

“People could come in here at any moment!” she said, but Harry laughed and kissed her again before speaking.

“It’s dinner Ginny, people are too busy stuffing their faces!” he laughed again but stepped away from her, suddenly looking serious. “Dean. When we going to tell him?”

Ginny rolled her eyes. “I’ve already told you! If I stay with Dean, Ron won’t suspect anything at all!” Harry raised an eyebrow, he clearly did not agree, but could not retaliate as Ron and Hermione appeared at the end of the corridor.

“What did Ron threaten you with?” he hissed down at a very flushed looking Ginny. She glared at him and stepped away, refusing to answer. She greeted Ron and Hermione and they walked back to the common room together, barely tolerating Ron. Once at the Common room they went their separate ways up to bed.

*

Harry woke suddenly, startled. He groped for his glasses and pushed them groggily on his face.

“Ginny?” he asked the quivering figure next to him.

“Mm?” she replied, her arms round Harry as she pulled him closer to her,

“Nightmares again?” he asked, his voice barely a whisper, she nodded and Harry protectively put his arms around her.

He looked at her eyes wide with fear whilst she was biting her bottom lip, she looked up at him and smiled shakily. Harry bent his head and kissed her, all thoughts of nightmares were forgotten.

Chapter 11

The next few days were perfect. Hermione had managed to contact Sirius and they were back together and Ginny and Harry remained unsuspected. It seemed too good to be true.

Things soon changed.

Harry and Ron were slowly walking back from a rough training session when Ron suddenly shouted out, startling Harry.

Harry looked around and saw Ginny and Dean kissing furiously, once again she looked as though she was eating his face.

“Get your hands off my sister!” Ron roared and Dean grimaced at Ginny before running away.

Ginny bit her lip and looked up catching Harry’s eye. He looked away reminding himself that it was him Ginny loved not Dean. But it didn’t work. It hurt like hell to see her kissing Dean.

“I’m sorry Harry.” Ginny whispered and Ron frowned.

“What? What did you just say?” Ron snapped at Ginny.

“None of your business” her tone was cool.

Ron shook his head at her. “What were you thinking anyway! Kissing him in public.”

“He’s my boyfriend Ronald and this corridor was deserted till you came along.” Ginny was speaking to Ron but she was looking at Harry, pleading for him to forgive her, to back her up, to help her.

Harry looked away from her pleading eyes, did she deserve to be helped?

“Yes but -”

“Give it a rest Ron, let her do what she wants.” Harry spoke at last, tearing his eyes back to Ginny, who immediately relaxed. Ron frowned and shook his head.

“You‘re siding with her over me?” his tone was incredulous and when Harry merely shrugged, he stalked off.

“Harry, Harry I’m so sorry.” Ginny ran to him and hugged him tightly, tears stinging her eyes. “He just sort of came onto me and I -”

“Don’t bother. Y - you had to, t - to make it believable.” he didn’t know who he was trying to convince, himself or Ginny, neither worked though. He glanced down at her and spoke again. “Ginny, couldn’t you, you know. . . Finish him?” he expected her to argue.

She nodded at the floor, suddenly bringing her gaze to meet Harry’s. “If that’s what you want, I’ll do it.” Harry nodded too and watched as she walked away, Harry gave her chance to get ahead before following on.

Ten minutes later he entered the Common Room to find the entire house watching Ginny and Dean argue.

“IT’S OVER DEAN AND THAT’S FINAL!” Ginny screamed at him and walked towards entrance hole that Harry had just walked through. She caught his eye and smiled slightly before walking out the door.

The hole house cheered as she left and then went back to their own business as though nothing had happened whilst Dean stormed up to the dormitory.

Harry glanced around. No-one appeared to be paying him much attention, so he too left the common room.

After five minutes off walking he found Ginny and kissed her, furiously, passionately, he kissed her.

She backed up against a wall and slid her hands into his shirt as he kissed her neck, breathing heavily.

“Oh My God!” a sarcastic voice sounded from next to them, making them both jump.

Harry and Ginny both looked around to find Ron stood there, leaning against the wall, a smirk playing along his lips and his arms folded.

“After everything I said to you this summer, after I warned you, you still go ahead and do it. I’m telling him Ginny and that’s final.” Ron was almost laughing.

“Tell him then.” Ginny folded her arms in defiance. “Harry, promise you won’t hate me?” a note of panic entered her voice and Harry nodded.

“I promise.”

“How touching” Ron sneered and Ginny slid down the wall, bracing herself.

“Well, remember last year? When you got together with Cho-Chang?” Ron’s tone was gleeful.

“Yes, I do.”

“You should have heard some of the things Ginny said about you, ‘he’s only doing it for attention’ was one of her favourites ‘he‘s an attention loving show off with a stupid scar‘ was another of her favourites but I think ‘I bet he‘s glad You-Know-Who murdered his parents because it means he‘s famous.’ was her all time favourite, wasn‘t it Ginny?”

Ron finished speaking and Harry swallowed, each word Ron had spoke had felt like a dagger stabbing at his heart. Ginny just ignored Ron and sobbed into her knees.

“You - you said those things Ginny? About me?” he asked in a hollow voice, every part of him hurting.

Ginny nodded.

“No, no you wouldn’t say that. It’s Ron making things up isn’t it?”

“No” her voice was a mere squeak.

“Attention loving? Glad he murdered my parents?” Harry repeated, Ginny’s eyes were brimming with tears.

“There was also ‘he just loves to play the hero’, don’t forget that one Ginny!” Ron interjected. Harry stepped away from Ginny as though he had been slapped.

“I was trying to convince myself that you were no good because I loved you and it was hurting me to see you with Cho.” her voice was still a squeak and Harry just to say heard her.

“I aren’t attention seeking, I don’t love to play the hero and - and I can’t believe you said those things Ginny!” he muttered the phrases in his mind, catching a glimpse of the delighted look on Ron’s face.

She stood up, glaring at Ron. “Harry, it was a long time ago and I’m sorry I said those things, I’m very sorry but I can’t change it and I love you, I really love you”

Harry nodded, his eyes betraying his hurt and his anger. But did he still love her?

Harry walked over to Ron, who’s grin was sliding of his face as Harry got closer.

Harry stood looking at him.

With one single movement, Harry punched him.

“You’re meant to be my friend Ron! But your not my friend anymore, a friend of mine wouldn‘t try to split me and my girlfriend up!” Harry spat on the floor at Ron’s feet and turned to look at Ginny.

“Why didn’t you tell me? We could have had things sorted a long time ago!” his voice was soft and his body was warm as he took Ginny his arms.

Ginny leant into him, whispering:

“I wish I had done.”
