Full Version: Worried About Spoilers

Owl Handler
I am a little concerned about spoilers. I was wondering how other people were feeling about this. I am not talking about pre-book 7 leaks, but the fact that I am working on the 21st (wanted the day off but someone else needs it off for medical so even though I had already asked for the day off, medical issues take precedence. I am getting the book through the mail and so will finally open it to read that evening (and I have the next days off).

How will other people be protecting themselves from hearing the end before they get to read it themselves? Do you think that there will be huge spoilers in the media that same day?

Would love to hear your views on this matter.

Hello Rachel! I have been thinking about these things for months now...so I will share some of my thoughts with you.
  • Don't watch T.V.- there are bound to be spoilers in the media
  • Avoid Newspaper/Magazines
  • When walking outside, do not show you DH book, people are bound to attempt to spoil it for you
  • If you must go out of doors, wear headphones. It's simple really, and I will be wearing headphones when I recieve my book at the Midnight Party
  • DON'T GET ON THE INTERNET! It's almost a given that every major news/provider website will be posting some form of a spoiler.. best to avoid at all costs.
  • Don't go outside. smile.gif
  • Try not to answer the phone, read text messages, emails, etc, etc (I know I wont be)
  • If it takes you longer than a day to read DH, then stock up before hand.. get food, water, candles... whatever it takes to keep you indoors for the duration of your read!

Those are a few things I will be employing to ensure that I will not have the book ending spoiled for me. I know if you visit VTM the staff will surely be working hard to keep all spoilers off the main forum and in the respective Deathly Hallows forum.

Enjoy the book and I'll see you in discussion soon!

Owl Handler
I totally agree. As mentioned though I am working that day and in my job I have to have a lot of contact with people. I am not going to bring it up, but I work with Zooteens. I am a zoo keeper, so I have to keep my ears open and use a radio for communication. I will NOT be listening to the TV or radio though until I finish the book and I have the Sunday through Tuesday off so I should get it finished in that time. It is just the Saturday that worries me.
Albus Dumbledore
That's ashame that you couldn't get off work for the book. I know I had a pretty bad spoiler for the last book, but that was my own doing. I always use my reciept for the book as the bookmark after the midnight party.. well, I lost the reciept in the back of the book and I flipped through looking for it. I tried not to look as I lifted the reciept out but in big capital letters it said "SNAPE KILLED DUMBLEDORE!" ... you see.. Harry was yelling at the time dry.gif

So protect yourself from yourself... if you lose a bookmark.. get another one.. dont hunt through the book and make the same mistake I did.

Albus, I am very sad for you, that would kind of suck to read that part when you just started the book. I would have been so mad!!!! What I plan on doing when the 7th book comes out is not going on the internet whatsoever for anything, and whenever I get the book I will lock my self in my room for the time of reading, example, for the sixth it took me 3 days to sink in every word while reading the book. I will only leave for bathroom breaks, and to restock on food if I get that hungry. Nobody will get me to leave until I have finished. Ohh I am so excited!!!! Only twelve more days!!!

Hey
Am thinking i will buy it at midnight (if possible) and just read it until the end.
When i was reading HBP i was completely oblivious to everything around me which was fabulous so i reckon i will do that again. I didn't watch TV or anything was definitely the way to go!!! ph34r.gif ohmy.gif
Albus Dumbledore
I actually went as far as removing myself from civilization. I travelled to my grandparent's place at the shore and I spent two days there.. there is no T.V. and I left the radio off.. it was nice.. reading HBP on the beach with no one around!!

I find that quote pretty funny, but that's what I did for the Half-Blood Prince. Even though curiosity got the best of me, and I read through the chapters first. 'The White Tomb' pretty much told me who died, but I was curious, again, and found out who died, and who killed him... Then I read 'The Cave', and I was curious about 'Horcruxes', and I ended up reading from 'After the Burial' to the end before I even finished 'Spinner's End'.

I DO NOT want other's to spoil me for the last book, and better yet I don't want to spoil it for myself. I feel sort of guilty to not feel the pleasure of being surprised at what JKR did. I didn't find Sirius's death sad just because I skipped through the book to find out what happens just to go on the internet and discuss it.

My iPod's batteries will probably die a couple of times while I'm waiting in line for the Deathly Hallows - I'll have it blasting so I can't hear any thing.
crookshanks04
what a good topic idea!!!

well i also agree with what albus said i will be cutting my self off from civilization because i do not want the end spoiled for me.

i also preorderd my book and i am seriosly considering sending somone like my boyfriend in to get it for me (at midnight of course!!!) i couldnt even imagine standing in line and somone who has gotten there book screaming out what happens ( i would like to think that no one would do that to another fellow harry follower but you never know!!!!)

well good luck to all avoiding spoilers

OH AND HAVE FUN AT THE MOVIES TO ALL THOSE GOING TO SEE THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX TONIGHT!!!!! IM GOING AT MIDNIGHT OF COURSE AND WILL BACK ON VTM AS SOON AS I GET BACK TO TALK ABOUT IT!!!
Albus Dumbledore
Note: there are no spoilers in this post whatsoever.

Ahh most interesting...

That reminds me of something.. and forgive me in advance for drawing this off topic and commandeering this thread for my message.

Oh noes! Leaks!:

We all have heard of the recent major leak against Deathly Hallows as announced by Scholastic. If I am not mistaken, this 'severe breach' was most likely the reason for the tightened security on this site... that's the way I see it anyway. Naturally I was curious with these leaks... got everyone's backs up.. except JK Rowling, it seems. I will, naturally, not release any of the spoilers... but I will say that they consisted of the first little bit of Chapter One, all of the Chapter Titles, a small bit from the middle of the book, and the entirety, I believe, of the Epilogue. The leak was in the form of scans of the book. It looked as if they plopped the book on an office copier and hastily did it.

A Literary Conspiracy?:

I do not know if these spoilers are real or not.. they seem legitimate.. perhaps too legitimate. I will warn you all against looking for them very soon, but for now we talk of conspiring and the like. I was wondering today, as I dwelled over the spoilers I saw, during my third viewing of the 5th movie, if all of this is yet another ploy. The book publishers have been known to copyright faux titles and names and such to throw the fans off, right? Well.. in light of the recent severe book leak, I wonder if Scholastic fabricated a perfect looking "Deathly Hallows" and "leaked" it in order to throw people off about any real leaks.. or to satiate people enough to NOT look for more material to leak. I really hope this is the case... it would be a very good idea and also explain why JK Rowling is smashing the "lawsuit-hammer" on everyone.

You see, in light of JJ Abrams top-secret film trailer for the movie (codenamed) Cloverfield, Paramount implemented a huge task force attacking site like Google and YouTube for releasing illegal versions of this topsecret trailer. Obviously some slip through the grips but overall the effort was effective.

Why isnt JK Rowlign doing this? TONS of sites have these scans on.. and you can find them on the FIRST page of a Google Search. This leads me to believe that it may all be planned.

An Urgent Warning!:

I realize EVERY decent Harry Potter site on the Web is shouting about not posting spoilers and the consequences of doing such a thing. I am going to one up there warnings and beg each and every one of you to not look for the spoilers and certainly not read/view them. Speaking from personal experience.. it leaves you feeling horrible. Not at the outcome.. but its a sense of guilt (I described it like cheating). Even if the spoilers, as I suspect, are a ploy from the Publishers it still is not a good feeling to have while waiting for the LAST Potter Book. So please.. do not look at them... I am trying to spare you from the way I feel now.

Thanks!

~Albus

When I buy the book, since I'm only an innocent teen and can't travel anywhere.. I will do my best to lock myself away from the world
--MY PLAN--

I will be sitting in my room in the dark locking myself in there and will read until I can't stop. If anyone interrupts I will shoot them with my laser gun.
I hope I won't be tempted to turn the news on.
I will win.
coolcharm
I wil be doing much the same.My younger sister reads the book too..so were getting them at the same time so hopefully we will both be civil and not burst into the others room when they have finsihed...ill just read till the end..probably cry or rejoyce..then read it again..without leaving my room and or house.

Nice post, Tom smile.gif

Though I do think that this conspiracy thing may be a little far fetched, though Mulder would be very proud of you tongue.gif

But yes, there are spoilers out there unfortunately and while we're doing our very, very best, if you really are adament that you want nothing at all spoiled, then it really is best to avoid the internet altogether. Even Googling "Deathly Hallows" will turn up potential spoilers now so it's going to be nigh-on impossible to avoid them. The best thing to do is to stick to direct links to sites you trust and stay away from news sites, search engines, livejournals, blogs, unmoderated chatrooms and everywhere else where inadvertent - and deliberate - spoilers are likely to be posted.
PottyHead
Unfortunatley, we have no midnight thing near us so i'll travel into town during the day and get my book. Though to be sure I don't hear spoilers or anything from passing people, I shall have my Ipod in, run to the bookstore, get on the train back home and lock myself in my room until I have finished the book atleast twice to make sure it has all sunk in.

I wont be watching TV, listening to the radio or going on the internet at all, until I know what happens for reading it myself. I hate spoilers. When I got HBP I was reading it in school and I was half way through my book when someone came up to me and said 'can you beleive Snape killed Dumbledore?' I was so ticked off, I refused to believe them at first but when I read that part it was just like '*gasp* OH MY GOSH *Slaps face, pinches self.. does anything to try and make sure this wasn't real*' So for that, I am making sure no one tells me anything.

My tips for not getting spoilers are:

-Go get the book and go straight home.
-Take food, drink and all necessary provisionaries that you will need for however long it will take to read the book up to your room or wherever and stay there!
-Don't emergere until you have finished the book.

happy.gif They'll keep me spoiler free anyway tongue.gif

im quite worried that i will hear something before i have finished the book. as soon as i have my hands on it, im going to read and read until iv finished it! im quite a slow reader though, and it may take me longer than a day, so im going to avoid all media, all my friends and my mobile and just hide away in my room until ive finished! its a bit drastic but i dont want it to be ruined for me, my friend ruined the last book by telling me DD gets killed before i had reached it! that sucked! so i dont want that to happen this time, after all its the last one and will be the last time i read a harry potter book for the first time, so i want it to be prefect!
Sir Cadogan
Sadly I got spoiled part of the ending of the Deathly Hallows by some idiot when I went to go see the Order of the Phoenix for a second time.

I feel so terrible right now you all won't believe it... Two girls sat there, talking about the spoilers revealed on the internet the loudest that they could...

At least I only heard pieces of it, and not the whole picture. But I did hear a whole deal about it... But I still believe that I'll like this book, even though I pretty much know what happens. sleep.gif

Do you think then that the scans and spoilers out there are real? I heard there is a scanned epilogue. I too have heard some spoilers, but wasn't sure they were legit.
Louise
Do I think that they're real? The scans? Erm....well....possibly...they do look rather authentic, but anything can be faked these days, and I've seen some very genuine fakes in my time. If they are real, then the most they've got is the chapter titles.

As for the details in the book, no, I think they're a pile of pants.

Well...at least, I hope they're a pile of pants. Or the men in white coats will be coming for JKR in a few days wink.gif wacko.gif
mayfair
It's extremely difficult to ascertain whether the stuff one's hand claiming to be a pre-release hacked version of the final book is authentic or not. The book is just 4 days away and there'll be lots of chaos preceding the event. We'll find all that we need to know on 21st July and the fans have waited for a long time over and most are not going to accept anything except JKRs authenticated words on this. Most of these so-called spoilers are nothing but a load of tripe not even deserving of a space in the trash folder of my mailbox. If indeed someone's posted a genuine article over the web it's unlikely that they would have posted the entire book, so it doesn't spoil everything. The best one can do is to be watchful of those whose purpose in life is to spoil it for others. I'll wait for the bad news till 21st July when all's out in the open.

I can understand how you feel about it. The situation was pretty much out of your hands so you do feel bad. But then on the brighter side , if it turns out that those girls were duped by a hoaxmaster, you'll be the one having the last laugh. It's just a matter of few days, you have waited long enough, do not let such petty incidents dampen your enthusiasm.

i saw on youtube someone read the end of the 6th book and went to a store where people where lined up outside waiting to buy it. and started yelling. snape killed dumbldore over and over again. so watch out even when your buying it.
white_bumblebee
ohmy.gif really?! what an awful thing to do! i dont understand the mentality of some people! well, i shall be wearing head phones with music on full blast when im picking up my copy then! really, the only way it seems you can avoid spoilers is by breaking off from all civilization until you have finished! a bit annoying but well worth it!
mugglemary
I hope they aren't real. Of course, I don't think my version of events is going to happen..ie..Harry dumps Ginny for Hermione..I just don't like Ginny in HBP..and I think Hermione is too good for Ron.
Mad-Eye Moody
l am getting the book at 9am, that is for those Aussies out there,

l am also buying a second book for my mum for her Birthday as she loved reading the Harry
potter books.

the main problem is l work at the cinemas that night so l bet people will be talking about it,
but will try and make sure l am just cleaning that night lol.

so everyong enjoy the book, and see you back here next week to see what you all thought
of it.
k_weber08
Yea its just a real shame that spoilers cannot be prosecuted, but yeah once you get your copy of Deathly Hallows pretty much remove yourself from all communication, and it wouldn't hurt to go camping in the woods once you get it tongue.gif, but yeah im not watching any t.v., going on the internet, or talk to anyone about the book until i'm 100% finished with it, but only 4 more days!!!!
Brungardt
I would like to warn all who may be checking out the news on Yahoo! about an article that could possibly contain spoilers.

I did not read the article, however it is titled something about spoilers (at least it gives a slight warning that it may contain them). I do not know for a fact if it contains spoilers becuase I did not read it for the slightest chance, but it certainly seems like a probable issue.

Just thought I would make this issue known to those who are wishing to avoid spoilers at all costs!

Nice way to put it but i agree tongue.gif I stumbled across some spoilers the other day and they sounded totally fake and as you said Louise if they are true then the men in white coats may indeed be knocking on JKR's door!

As for the 'epilogue' that's floating around it's the worst thing i have ever read and sounds so fake. The last sentence in particular was so cheesy and if it is real i will wonder to myself why i even bothered with Harry Potter if that's how it's going to end.

I too will lock my myself in my room and will not come out again until i've finished reading the book. thumbsup.gif

P.S if you don't want to be spoiled on a few of the chapter names then do not read the article in today's Sun!

Regretably i read it not knowing what was coming. I think it's sick that people want to go and spoil it. It's not on but it's sad to know some people out there ill do it.

This is advice for all of us. Don't go near the internet when searching Deathly Hallows or read the papers. Because spoilers are everywhere. Argh!!
Magog
I am not concerned about being spoiled, as an adult, I don't have too many people come up to me and say "Hey, did you hear so and so died in Harry Potter?" or anything like that. I have seen the scans on the internet, and they do seem to be genuine. I have also found that they have now scanned the ENTIRE book, not just part of it. From what I have seen in the scans, I am hoping that they are fake. sad.gif
hermione rox
Okay that's so not fair for us fans! We wait two long years for what could be, one of the best books in history and these people who just want to ruin our lives decide to just.. yell out what happens. These people make me sick.
Here's my suggestion, if someone around you starts chatting about what happens in the Deathly Hallows and you don't wanna hear about it.. Plug your ears and yell! I don't care if it's obnoxious or embarrassing. I'd rather embarrass myself then get it ruined, since then there would be nothing to look forward to...
So try it out.
And if you see on the internet about the ending or spoilers of some type. Do not[u] look at them!
Today I was on YouTube, kindly viewing the OoTP trailer for fun and out of no where it says, 7th book revealed!!! as another video. I being the idiot that I am, open it up and see what it is. a scanned "copy" of the deathly Hallows itself. I am truly disgusted so I pause it, stopping myself from the temptation of reading the book.
Below, there are people commenting on who will die. And I think its a lie! They most likely said it for enjoyment of torturing us fans... But the good thing is, I don't think it was true, because there was way too many characters that would've died.
and things they wrote... ugh.
makes me Sick!
and heres the thing about the newspaper and internet that talk about the book. Don't read it! just don't look at the newspaper for the next few days, or if you do, do not look at anything Harry Potter related. If you see something Harry potter type, just stop reading! and as for internet, obviously yyou were searching for something... so don't ruin it for yourself.
Louise
There's also something that's passing as an advance copy of DH floating around that's available on pdf, but that's not a fake, per se...it's a fanfic, apparently, called 'The Seventh Horcrux' by someone beginning with M. I haven't read it myself, but I've heard that it's pretty good...though the ending leaves a lot to be desired. And the epilogue is just...urgh...too awful for words.

Just be cautious, that's all. And if you're that worried, it really is best to avoid the internet and the media altogether.
Harry Will Survive
Ahhh I have the same problem... i have to take a course for work that satrurday and ill start reading the book around 4:30... By then everyones going to know what happend.. im scared to go on Veritaserum until im done loll tongue.gif I've already pre-oredered it and in mycity theres a huge midnight thing but im not going i'll have to wait till 430 the next day sad.gif

I know you guys are trying your best but theres gunna be SO many that im scared haha..
samsmom
First of all, I think that anyone who would go to such lengths to ruin it for other people is a real creep and needs to get a life even more than those of us who have 800+ posts in places like this tongue.gif

Second, I think that the details floating around are sketchy at best, and I have avoided them as much as possible.

The idea that someone got hold of the actual book, and took pictures of 784 pages to load on the internet is strange. Does anyone know what the purpose of it was? Were they trying to be a spoiler, or haters of HP who wanted to ruin sales or hurt JKR? Either way, I hope they get caught and prosecuted. This is such a simple pleasure, to read a good book and find out what happens to a beloved character. Why do people feel the need to ruin that for others?
firebolt7
luckily i came very very close to being spoiled...
my friends all sent me texts but i dont answer their stuff when it gets close to harry potter time.

i had my mom read them so she got spoiled and not me...

looks like i will continue my plan of no electricity once i get home from buying the book...

*fingers crossed*
Moon(I luv you Luna)
Spoilers are horrible. But either by my shear brilient, or shear luck, i have never been spoiled. I'm glad. tongue.gif

My Plan Of Action To Stay Spoiler Free:

1: I will wait in line with everyone else, including my sistre and friend. We will speculate till our hearts content.

2: I will get my book, and attempt to start reading it as my dad tries to pay for it.

3: I will start reading it in the car-with the radio off.

4: I will go to my reading spot (The pantry-don't ask) and stay in there until i either fall asleep or finish it.

But honestly, if your pantry's big enough, read in there. It's really nice to know that if you need to chew on something because your so nervous, it's right there next to you ...

But really, i hate spoilers. They are so sad for those who haven't read the ending. I remember back in form 2, when OotP came out, a guy from my class was running around shouting "Dumbledore dies! Dumbledore dies!" Obviously he was wrong, but i thought it was real and started crying. I was so happy when i realised that it was Sirius, not Dumbledore, then i realised that-hello? Sirius died! blink.gif

But that's just slightly off topic. Either way, i will be staying away from all media until i've finsished the book. happy.gif
Ginny_Hermione
Ah, Spoilers. I hate them. Sadly, book 6 was spoiled for me. But that was partly my fault. I went online, and was almost done with book 6. There was this forum (not on VTM) that was discussing book 6. I didn't read the part that said: Warning: Spoilers! Only for people who finished book 6! I browsed through the posts, and at the bottom of one it said 'I can't believe Dumbledore died!' I was devastated.

But also, I am very curios, and when I get a new book, I have an extremely bad habbit of reading the last page before I even start the book. I'm going to try my hardest not to do that with DH. But I do always read all the chapter names. It helps me read faster to see what will happen! tongue.gif

My Plans:

-Going to the bookstore at Midnight, and am going to talk loudly with my brother, and ignore all other talk.

-I'm gonna start reading as soon as the book is in my hands.

-I'm going up to my room, and reading DH all night. Hopefully I can finish it by Sunday.

-I'm only leaving for food, bathroom, and water or soda.

-I'm going to drink lots of caffiene to stay up so I can finish asap.

-I'm not going on the Computer, watching TV, listening to radio, talking on the phone.

-When I finish I'll go on VTM but not until then. After I finish, I'll re-read it a few times, and re-read it along with all other 6 books to find things I might've missed the first time.

Well, where I live, 2 days, 2 hours, 1 minute till DH! biggrin.gif Until then, and after I hope you all stay Spoiler-Free!!

Pottie Peace,
Xx-Ginny-xX happy.gif

i also recently bought ear plugs so that way when im in someone that is not my room i just pop those in and i wil never hear a single spoiler...

i dont want some loon doing the same thing that happened at that barnes and noble on youtube where he drove by saying snape kills dumbledore for HBP...

i suggest a good pair of ear plugs or even have an ipod in.
mel_tonks
I don't understand how anyone could want to know how the series ends without having read the whole book but I get that some people are very impatient and just want to know what happens.

What really bothers me is that these people who post these spoilers on the net just don't care that they are ruining the final book for other fans.

It has got to the point that the only HP site I am visiting at the moment is this one because I am very wary than any new site I visit will have spoilers on them.
Celeone
Okay, the deal about these copies in pdf-file that are on the internet... I have no idea if they're fake or not, but I can tell where they come from (well, if you believe the story, I'm not completely sure). A friend of mine was told that this guy works on one of the biggest bookstores in America (Waldenbooks or something? - I'm not from America) and had a moment to take one of the copies when the boxes where open... He took it home and there made photo's of it. First it only were the first 495 pages and the epilogue, but on this moment the whole book is on the internet. Plus a stupid store sent a few copies of the book on tuesday...
If it's true or not, I don't know, but I certainly hope not. The one thing I can think of why it's not true, is that the epilogue ends on page 759. I believed that the real endnummer was claimed to be 784? If it's really 784, then it's almost impossible to be true.
It's just sick that people can ruin it for all those people just by making photo's of it... Some are curious but really don't want to know the spoilers, so they can really make it hard on themselves.

I read the first three pages. Nothing more. I just want to wait untill the midnightrelease. I'd rather read it in the book than a few days earlier on the net...

What I'm going to do? Well... I'm going to read it as quick as possible (after the midnight I'm not going to sleep at all untill it's finished) and ignore spoiler-ish sites. And youtube. And all those other things... I can't wait untill it's July 21th and I really pray the pdf's aren't real.
Louise
I'm 99.99% sure it's a fake. A good one, granted, but a fake nonetheless.

Well...I sincerely hope so, anyway. Because I've read the first chapter, part of the second, the conclusion and the epilogue - and it is so badly written, full of grammatical errors, clunky analogies, pathetic dialogue, and is just *so* unutterably boring that if JKR *has* written it, then she deserves to be flayed alive.

I sincerely believe it's a fake, designed to look good, and it does...but the proof is in the reading, and the proof for me is complete and utter rubbish.

It's up to everyone whether they decide to go looking for spoilers or not, but I don't really think it's that everybody wants to ruin it for everyone else - unless they're sociopathic or something. I think it's more about the challenge in beating the system and proving that it can be done.
Albus Dumbledore
I too have delved deeply into the recent array of 'supposed' spoilers.

They are all absolutely dreadful. The scans, of which there are about half a dozen different sets, are all lacking that.. element.. that JK Rowling brings to her books.

As Louise said, they are horribly written and obviously these people have no common sense. They directly contradict themselves in many accounts making them less believable.

I have, however, found one picture of the Table of Contents, only the middle part of it (Chapter Titles 10-29) and I cannot find it anywhere else on the Internet. I have searched high and low, individually searching the chapter titles.... and I can't find it anywhere else. The link was given by a friend.. who, conveniently, I cannot get a hold of at the time. I will say that I do believe this set to be real.. I am almost positive. Not only does it feel like JK Rowling's work... but there is also a tell-tale sign that I believe makes it a real copy.

I will not reveal, obviously, what these details are... but I will let you all know after the book is released whether or not it was a genuine picture or not.

Also, as noted in another thread by Passerby and a few others, the New York Times Review for Deathly Hallows is indeed out and it contains a single spoiler. So steer clear should you want to avert yet another spoiler for DH. wink.gif
Celeone
Well, I really want to believe they aren't real, but... How can you write such a long fanfic and photoshop it on só many pages? The chapters are believed to be true, so... Isn't it a real short amount of time for someone to fake it? I mean, such things take time, I guess...
It is possible that you two are just going to think that the seventh book is a lousy book. Maybe it's the real deal and it's just written differently...

Oh, really, I am even afraid of my work right now. I have to work three hours this evening but you never can know what persons show up in the shop. If someone dares to speak out a spoiler, I'm going to throw him out of the shop. cool.gif Not that my boss will like that...

I found this on mtv.com, by the way:

And on Wednesday (July 18), J.K. Rowling's attorney issued a statement saying that amid the hundreds of fake pages that have appeared online in recent days, some are legit; he did not specify which ones are real. However, the pages pose more questions than answers.

It's just a piece of the information that was there, but this is the most important, I think.

Oh I don't think for one second that someone has written the whole book and photoshopped the lot, but there are several things that indicate to me that it's a fake. Unfortunately, I can't go into them now because it would mean divulging potential spoilers which I'm not going to do.

I just find it very odd that what they *have* tried to put up are certain chapters that give absolutely no clue whatsoever as the main plot of the book, and judging from the horrendously spoiler-filled NY Times article this morning, they're way off base.

Trust me, Celeone, it has nothing to do with me not liking the book....or at least the version I've read of it. It's simply to do with the fact that, literary-critically speaking, it's badly written. It's not even Jo's style, and I've read enough books to know that every author has their own style. There are also several things in the scans that leads me to believe that there are some very cleverly hidden mickey-takes directed at Potter fans, and particularly those who take spoilers very seriously. Again, unfortunately, I can't state what they are right now, but maybe I can after the book is released...we'll see.

I don't think they've written the whole thing anyway - there are only sections there in the scans (though apparently the whole book is available to download, never mind that the download version is only 600-odd pages when we know that the book is over 700) and as for length - you want to check out fanfics like 'If You Are Prepared', 'Slytherin Rising', 'Paradigm of Uncertainty', 'Sin of Lycaos' and many, many others which are very novel-sized. Don't forget, they've had a whole two years to work on this - not just a couple of days. Why are only certain sections there? Why not the whole book? Why not the *real* spoiler-y stuff like whether Snape is good or evil, or whether Harry's a horcrux, or who RAB is? The scans curiously stay away from all the important areas.

Authors don't generally adopt a totally new style when they're writing a series, and what I've read is so utterly awful that if this was a first novel by an unknown, I am pretty certain that it wouldn't have even reached the proof-reading stage.

And let's not also forget that after the leaks from HBP, the publishers went nuts about breach of copyright and there was talk of legal suits being bandied about left, right, and centre - these scans have been up for literally days now - and they are *exceptionally* easy to find. If they were genuine, why hasn't someone acted to take them down?

Probably because JKR finds it all as laughable as I do.

I have added a word detector to my game server. Its very popular and About %10 atleast read HP, So I have made it so anyone who says anything about the book is removed from the server and banned for the day biggrin.gif A bit extreme yes, but its horrible to see people get on and spam the ending of the book.

Okay, in line with our policy of doing our best to prevent spoilers being posted, all spoiler-related threads are being closed down now - including this one, I'm afraid.

Don't forget, the forums will be closing in...er...14 hours as of this post and we will be reopening at 9AM on Monday the 23rd.
