I love Maggie Smith in prof McGonnagle. She is pretty old - I really hope she is around to do the remaining films.

Hi there pianoman362001
I was pretty sure that there must already be a thread about Dame Maggie Smith, but it would appear that there isn't. However should another moderator find one, this thread will be locked.
Dame Maggie isn't so old that we should start worrying about her not being around for the next 2 movies, but then anything can happen. Shes' 73 years old and looking fantastic on it.
I don't think the next two movies will be the same if she's not around to play McGonagall. Maggie is an amazing actress and I love her portrayal of her.
Just as a footnote, one liners/ short posts are not permitted on the forums, there is a reason. Please take a look at the rules linked in my signature. Elaborate more in your future posts. Thanks

Wow I'm surprised there isn't a thread for Dame Maggie Smith as well.
I agree that there isn't a doubt in my mind that she'll be around for the remaining films. She's a great actress who's still starring in film after film at 77 years old. I think that she will continue her acting career which seems to be just what she needs. I personally believe it's what is keeping her spirit young.

What? Not have Miss Maggie around to complete the series? That is just preposterous! The series wouldn't be the same without her. I love her portrayal of Mcgonnagal. I would love to see her rendition of how to play a headmistress. How does everyone think she will do as Headmistress of Hogwarts?

I'll think she'd do wonderful as Headmistress. From the trailers and clips I've seen of OotP, she's up to her usual standard. I'm really glad she plays McGonagall, because I think her part could be easy to mess up, but she's excellent. McGonagall has that strict but kind personality, and I think a lot of people would be one of the two, not both. Maggie Smith is amazing at bringing them together.
If she didn't do the next two movies, I would be seriously ticked. I would probably have to send Warner Bros. a lot of hatemail if the cut her or anything. If it was for any other reason, well, I might just go to my room and cry into my pillow.

Really? Is she 73? She certainly doesn't look it. I just saw OotP earlier today and she definitely looks just as good as ever. In fact, I actually thought she looked a little younger than in earlier films.
On a semi-related note, I remember watching hook when I was younger and thinking she had to have been like ninety-something. I was, however, pretty young back then so everyone looked really old to me, and she was done up with make-up to make her look a lot older, but yeah...just thought I'd throw that in

she's one of my favorite actress of all time. i can't imagine other actresses to play minerva mcgonagall, she is just perfect for the role, although sometimes it's sad because as she had minimal screen time. i only saw quite a few of her films, and i did quite like tea with mussolini. back to hp, well she did a great job portraying her character, even if she had few scenes, she delivered exceptionally. you will still notice her even with the tiny bit of part. reallly one of the finest actess.

Defenetely one of the best actresses, in my opinion.

I don't know what we'd do without her in Deathly Hallows. She tries to help Harry a lot in there, and when he 'died' hers was one of the biggest screams. Even if they got another actress it wouldn't be the same.
It seems to be in other movies that she still has a big of McGonagall in her. I saw David Copperfield, and I know that was before anyone knew who McGonagall was but anyways, I saw that before Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and Daniel Radcliff plays in that with her when he was about 6/7 years old. I thought she had the same chemistry she had with him as she did in SS- being someone not to cross, and then being a little spontainous, someone who has a lot of pride, and protecting someone no matter what.
Soo..what I'm trying to say is that Maggie Smith is a bit like McGonagall, and there's no one better for the role.

She looks great for 73. She is the same age as my Mom, and she is in great shape too, he he. I don't see her not doing the last two movies. I have seen interviews with her, and she loves playing Minerva. She fits the part perfectly, and she has brought her to life with no problem. I just can't imagine anyone being able to replace her. I would say even if she has a schedule conflict they would work around that. They are accomidating Helena Bonham Carter to film her scenes in the Spring for HBP. I don't see anyone else taking her place.

I like her very much. It's one of the actors in the films that I have never thought that maybe she is not the right for the part. It's totally how I imagined Professor Mcgonagall. I believe she will play in the last films.

When I first read the books, I imagined Professor McGonagall somehow different, but since the first movie, I couldn't imagine her different than Maggie Smith! She filled her part sooo nicely! She makes an excellent Prof. McGonagall: stern but caring... And I would also hate another actor who played her instead of Maggie Smith! She's not as replaceable as Dumbledore!!! Never!!!

For me, Maggie Smith as Professor McGonagall was the only character who was perfectly cast. She is precisely how I thought McGonagall should be. No one could ever play that part better than her. Fortunate lasting, we will see her craft in the final two movies.

Although I enjoy watching HP's movies, I always get frustrated because they cut most scenes where Maggie Smith should appear. The same thing happens to Alan Rickman. I really can't understand that. The most frustrating movie for me was the fifth one. They didn't show all Harry's anger, and some of the deepest feelings were "forgotten".
If they continue doing like this, I think the sixth and the seventh movies will be the most frustrating ones.
Dame Maggie Smith is not that old; she's only 73 years old, and I do hope she will be in movies 6 and 7. Maybe for Hollywood pattern, she's too old, but, thanks God the movie is British and one thing that I most admire in British mentality is that they hire actors and actresses above the sixties. Pretty young faces with little talents are worthless.
Long live Maggie Smith!

Well, I really hope Dame Maggie Smith is able to finish the HP series. I'm sure having watched her do all the previous movies helps my opinion, but I think she is the perfect Prof. McGonagall and no one else could fill her shoes or do a better job. I think if someone tried to take over her role, it would be disastrous.
But with the latest news that she is battling cancer, it's hard to say if she will be able to finish out the movies. I hope she is able to fight off the cancer quickly and get back on her feet soon, but not just for the HP series, but as a person, too, of course.

Long live Dame Maggie Smith!!

May you finish out the HP movies, but if not, may you fight off the cancer and live for many years to come. We will love you either way!

I love Maggie Smith as well, she is one of I think five actors/actresses in Harry Potter that I think in looks and mannerisms are the epitome of the character that the portray. I think she is a phenomenal actress.
