I've just got back from seeing OOTP and I'm completely buzzed! It was a brilliant film, worth every penny. You can bet I'll be seeing it again in the next few days. HP 1, 2 & 3 pale in comparrison. David Yates must be part wizard because the directing was magic. The actors were far better than they've ever been, with special note to Radcliffe's performance. Yates makes the Harry we all love live and breathe on the screen and Radcliffe brings him into our hearts.
I don't think they could have done better.
My favourite of the books is now my favourite of the films as well.
So don't just sit there! Go! Go now!!

It was very different to the other films - but in a good way. Yates turned an incredibly long book into an interesting, magical and shorter version which extended the harry potter films to new lengths. At the beginning, I was a bit unsure - it was so much more original than the usual harry at privet drive, etc. It was also much more focused on the emotions of the characters and I though the way harry was portrayed was fantastic. Each actor suited heir role perfectly, especially bellatrix. I thought she was fabulous.
My only complaint was the big cut in the Dumbledore/Harry convo towards the end, which I thought could have a bit more explaining. But this was redeemed with Gambon's improved performance as Dumbledore. He still isnt as great as Harris, yet has definitely gotten better since PoA and Gof. Much more DD-ish in his calmer nature, yet also fantastic in the battle against LV.
Overall, my least favourite HP book has turned into my favourite move. I congratulate Yates and i'm delighted he will be directing HBP.

Going to the midnight showing was so much fun and OoTP was absolutely awesome (although it got a bit campy at the end). I was worried that they wouldn't be able to make a decent movie in two hours from the longest book of the series but I really think they did an excellent job. My happiness would have been complete had they included the Weasley twins' swamp

But, you can't have everything now can you? I can't wait to see it again!

oh man! It was amazing!! Where do I begin?
» Click to Show Spoiler - Click Again to Hide... «
Dementor Scene. It was very dramatic and well shot, I think Arabella Figg could have been a bit better at coming onto the scene, but overall it was appropriate. I miss the old dementor look though.
The Advance Guard. Perfect. Tonks crashes in the Kitchen, Harry is whisked away, and all is well.
The Court Scene!! They didnt leave out Dumbledore's line! Thank you! You know, the bit about arriving at the Ministry 3 hours early! Very good scene summing up the feelings between Umbridge, Fudge, Dumbledore and Harry. Bravo Gambon on bettering your Dumbledore-ness!!
Umbridge was absolutely perfect. I can't even explain how good Imelda Staunton did at making us hate her.
The DA was well portrayed... somethings were tweaked, like Neville discovering the RoR, and Cho ratting everyone out (via Veritaserum), but all in all it was great.
I loved the playful hints with the romances in the next book. Ron and Hermione are more pronounced and you can even see Ginny glaring with looks fit to kill when Harry is around Cho. Quite funny really.
Luna is beautiful, I'd date her in a heartbeat.. even if she is a bit wierd. They kind of set it up so Harry could get with her.. or even Neville.. either way Luna deserves someone.. she is such a cool character.
The Flight of Dumbledore. *sigh* I loved it! They shortened it up a bit.. but they kept the essentials of one my FAVOURITE quotes! The exit scene after they discover the DA was perfect.
I'm sad to say that there is no attack on Hagrid, and Minerva was never stunned. That was a scene I was looking forward to.
I truly felt a lump in my throat when poor Sybill was told she had to leave the Castle. It was all very sad and heartfelt and Dumbledore, as usual, came to save the day. Very EPIC shot of him coming out of the Castle, to be exact. However, there was yet another Dumbledore blunder. In GoF it was Dumbledore throttling Harry about putting his name in the Goblet, and this time he snapped at the students saying something like "Don't you all have studying to do or something". It kind of stained the scene prior where he spares Sybill.
The Only One He Ever Feared. VERY nice battle... I enjoyed to see that Voldemort was fearing Dumbledore and Dumbledore gave him a rundown. They obviously make it out so we can see Dumbledore is getting old, but he is still amazing in the battle nonetheless. The possession of Harry was great.. they underlined the fact that Voldemort can't love verrrry well.
The Prophecy was butchered and Horrible. There was no talking scene at the end with Dumbledore except for a small bit about the necessity of one murdering the other and that Dumbledore cares a lot for Harry.
The Veil was cool looking. Sirius, however, was murdered by the Avada Kedavra. Kind of killing any hopes for his return... JKR wouldnt allow such a discrepancy in the script, I would think.
There is also no locket present, or made noticeable at Grimmauld Place.
Sadly, there is no "in essence divided" scene either.
Overall the film was well done, the effects were GREAT. I love the display of apparation.. it was ingenious. I urge everyone to see it multiple times!!

I absolutely loved it! I saw it at IMAX 3-D and the last 30 minutes were all in 3 dimension... it was the most amazing thing I have ever seen.
I have to say I think the movie could have definitely been a good hour-hour and a half longer, but other than that, it was perfect. I am going to go see it again tomorrow.

Certainly, Return of the King was something like 3 hours and 45 minutes and that stopped nobody from seeing it.. so I don't see why they don't 'live a little' with the films. I surely would have liked to see some scenes that were left out. (ex: Hagrid attacked/Minerva stunned and St. Mungos and the "but in essence divided" scene)
I, too, will be seeing the movie again later today (its 341am here)

I LOVED IT!!
--I'm sorry for the all caps but I was shouting.
This movie was everything I was hoping for, with the minor exception of the length. However for the amount of time it was, there was enough information packed in to satisfy my needs. I was very impressed with the characters. I feel like I've rather grown up with them, and each new movie it's nice to see their changes.
Out of a ten, I give it a hundred.

I just got back from seeing the movie and it is about 3 a.m. here on the west coast of the U.S. I absolutely loved this film! They cast Umbridge and Luna perfectly......Luna was proabaly my favorite character in this film! Umbridge's little giglle was so annoying, yet it fit her part! They left some stuff out like Rita and Quidditch and Fred and Georges' escapade was tainted by Harry suddenly fainting and my favorite line wasn't in there. "Give her hell from us Peeves!" Darn! And the Thestrals were really creepy and just how I imagined them! But the ending where DD is s'posed to tell Harry everything......isn't there. Harry doesn't even get mad at DD, I was looking forward to that part! The DoM was a little cut down, that would have been amazing! I wanted to see Ron tackle that brain! Haha! ANyhow, I am going to buy it and I think that they should make an extended version of it! Overall, it was at the top of my list! ~kelli

I just got back from the movies and it was fantastic. I debated about if it was my favorite film or not....I did say it was, but I will have to see it a few more times to say for sure. I did miss some things from the book, but not much. This book is my least favorite but the movie and Dan and the others made it all worthwhile. I was disapointed in Grawp and in how Snape went into the hole (I forget what it is really called). I don't remember it as happening like that in the book, but it is late, I could be wrong. Anyhow, it was too very minor things I disliked, it is a definite must see.

to be perfectly honest with myself, i have to say that the fifth movie was the worst harry potter movie i have seen yet. i do not blame david yates because he did some amazing directing. but i can complain about how poorly strung together it was. to me it seemed that the movie was incredibly choppy. it was like they were trying to minimize the scenes to be as small as possible. they tried to keep the script as small as possible. they also changed everything from what the description was in the book. i have to say that this is the worst of all the movies. they should have added a lot more film to it, maybe 1/2 or a full extra hour. that much extra time would have made the scenes blend a lot easier. i also feel that hagrid got the raw end of the deal in this movie, seeing he showed up twice for about 2 minutes total. also it is easy to tell that from the first 10 minutes the entire movie will be terrible. so far i think that the best movies are 1 and 2. they followed a plot people could understand and they were well timed. the makers of those movies did not seem to care how long the movie was. also i feel it is absurd that the longest book turns out to be the shortest movie. it just shows that the producers wish to make money more than they want to make a decent movie. i also feel that daniel did an aweful job at playing harry's anger. guess what, there was no anger. it seemed like harry was having a normal conversation when the twins came in and said he was shouting. also are the screenwriters trying to get rid of ron. it seemed as though they let harry and hermione do everything while ron said like 2 words. i dont see what people like about this movie and the same goes for the only 3 people in my theator that clapped. its time the screenwriters are fired and some competent writers are employed. also i believe thee critics are lying about how good the movie was. i believe that i wasted my $10 to see the movie. this movie was aweful

OMG
Just saw OotP in Australia. We had plans worthy of a top-class army to get into that cinema...we shouted at people...but got shouted at by the ticket people...for forgeting to show the tickets.
Our verdict:
We thought it was nearly almost so-closely perfect, for perfection cannot really be achieved. We are so glad that David Yates is directing HPB as well. My favourite bit is a battle among when they were in the DA, when Harry was "Kiss & Tell"-ing and when Harry was fighting off Voldemort inside him. That was insanely moving.
WE LOVED IT.

Ok, now that it's not 3am and I'm no longer barely-awake, I'll elaborate on my earlier post.
Firstly, however,
War Ich Du - seriously?
haha. Now that that is out of the way...
I saw the movie at midnight last night at the imax theatre, and I thought it was amazing. I was disappointed (as I have been in every HP movie so far) that so many scenes were either changed or left out, but, to be honest, what did we really expect? The 900 page book was converted into a 2 hour movie. Simply put, it just won't all fit!
The scenes I missed the most were definitely those deleted from the final DOM scene. There was no brain room, no revolving room with Hermione using flagrate on the doors to mark their exit... nothing.
Also, I was heartbroken that David Yates chose to minimize Sirius' death so greatly! The most heartwrenching few pages in the entire HP series was cut down to a mere 10 seconds-or-so on the big screen. (I still cried, by the way!

)
Other than those little flaws, I couldn't be happier.
I simply loved the thestrals... they were incredible! And Tonks and Luna... perfect! Especilally Luna! Whoever cast her needs to give themselves a nice pat on the back for me.
I can't believe how old the trio is getting, either. With their age grows their talent! Especially Dan... wow...
So, on a scale of 1-10... I give it a million.

Eh, it was a pretty good movie, considering movies can't have every detail the books have, but to be honest, I was kind of disapointed. It was really choppy; the movie should have been an hour or so longer. I know it's impossible to condense a nine-hundred page book, but they could have done a tad better. I was really, really disapointed with Snape's Worst Memory. They finally got to it, and I was expecting it to be a lot longer. We didn't see Lily. And James doesn't really look how I imagined him too. Sirius, Remus, and Peter weren't shown almost any, and Sirius was the main reason that happened. I also feel that Remus's part was cut extremely short. Just a simple "Hi" at the beginning and holding Harry back at the end. I hated how they put Sirius's death. Hated it. He died in the movie because he fell through the veil when dodging an "Avada Kadavra". He didn't get hit then fall through. If Sirius comes back, they'll be put in a bind. It was just minimized soo much! I cried for a while when he died in the book, but I didn't cry at all in the movie theater. He's one of my favourite characters and I didn't even cry! My waterproof mascara went to waste last night. (Haha). I just think he died wrong, they didn't do his death justice, etc. The heart-breaking part was when Sirius called Harry "James". That was soo sad. It wasn't in the book, and it took me by complete suprise, but I loved it. Dan, in my opinion, didn't portray Harry's anger well enough. I loved the family tree. It was pretty cool. I did like the fight in the MoM. That was awesome. I never imagined all the prophecies shattering like that, but it fit well. The way they fought, the shadow figures was amazing. And the fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort was awesome, truely amazing special affects. But the scene where Harry fights off Voldemort inside was captured extremely well, probably one of the best parts in the movie. Actor who played Voldemort did really, really good too. I loved his character and all the emotion (evil) put into it. Bellatrix did amazing too. She probably had the strongest performance overall. It was awesome, it laugh and such, and when she escaped from Azkaban. Gambon did better at the end of keeping Dumbledore's calm attitiude. He did very well in my opinion. It was just little stuff like this that disapointed me. I think that a lot of the problems people have with it would have been solved had it been and extra hour or so.
So my over-all opinion is that it was a pretty good movie, but it could have been better had there been another hour added to the length. While I was kind or disapointed, I know my money was put to good use, and I will be watching it in theaters again soon.

I went to the midnight showing last night, and let me tell you, this movie was worth the 7 hour wait in line!!!
Daivd Yates is a genius. I give him all the credit for this film. He did something brilliant with it. He made it good!
The past four films have been unbelievably awful, in my opinion, but this one just blew me away! Sure, there were some things I was pretty disappointed with, but overall it was brilliant. The disappointing moments paled in comparison to how great the rest of the film was.
It was a very fast-paced movie. Of course, if they'd done it exactly like the book it would have been 5 hours long! Because it was so fast-paced, it lost a lot of the emotion that the book had. Especially with Sirius's death scene and then the battle between Voldemort, Dumbledore and Harry in the Ministry of Magic.
I have a longer review over on my livejournal if you want to read it.

i didnt get to see it yet. im going after my soccer game tonight. a lot of people have said it is amazing though. JK said that it was her favorite yet, so that must really mean something. HPChic said that gambon was better though, thank God. i hated him in the 3rd and 4th movies. i just cant wait until i see the battle at the end. the like 1 sec. clip of it shown in one of the trailers looked awesome.
it looks like it will be better than the other movies. and hopefully after what everyone said, it will be.

I thought it was amazing I had midnight tickets last night and ill be seeing again this weekend and then when I go up to KC I will watch it in IMAX. Some of the lines were hillarious like Sorry, I must not tell lies, More like no need to think, Step away from my God son, and Let me Down Grawp.... Now! It is so my favorite film followed by PoA, GoF, SS/PS, and last CoS. and #5 was my favorite book as well. Me and a couple friensd were dressed up as Hermione (me) and Ginny and my my other friend as Professor Umbridge. I waited 2 hours in line but it was worth it the possesion part was way different than I pictured it. I was disapointed when they had Ron included in the Grawp scene because that was my all-time favorite book scene and I wanted it to be the exact same and I wish they had included when Professor Umbridge was watching Professor McGonogals class and that Kreacher sent Harry to the DoM. But other than that I thought it was amazing but it didnt feel long at all and it was 2 hours & 18 minutes. I cant wait to see it again.
but I thought it made Harry seem a little too depressed and isolated but the ending scene with Luna was so cute even though I dont ship them.

That movie was AMAZING! I LOVED it!
I do understand what you guys were saying about it being a little longer considering how much was cut out, but considering the fact that they weren't trying to repeat Lord of the Rings with the three hours I am satisified! I would have loved to see a bit more in the DoM and the talk, but overall I still think it was brillant! I like the fact that all my favorite lines from the book were in the movie, that made me happy!!!
First off Luna was absoutely brillant!!!!! Light, airy, perfect! As was Umbridge with her little cough!!! And let me just say that Dan...WOW...his performance was....Wow! He has become a pretty incredible actor so I think he needs a special round of applause!!!

Bellatrix was incredible too...and Dumbledore did get much better!
What Yates did condensing the movie worked out perfect in my eyes and I am thrilled he'll be directing Half-Blood Prince!!!
There was one thing I wanted to point out though:
» Click to Show Spoiler - Click Again to Hide... «
The two-way mirror or the locket weren't in the movie and, as you guys pointed out, Sirius was killed with the Avada Kedavra. JK Rowling made sure that Kreacher was in the movie because it would mess up the movies if he wasn't, so does that mean that none of this is relevant?
Anyways, once again I thought that the movie was beyond brillant!!! I adore this movie and I will definitely be going to see it again and again! EEEEKK! It was so exciting!!!! Midnight premieres are way too much fun!!!

There was a couple other thing I forgot to mention that I didnt like how they portrayed James at all even thats how it was in the book they didnt have Lily being nice and I didnt like that you didnt see the Longbottoms at St Mungos but I loved the scene with Luna at the end it was soo cute even though I dont ship them.

the movie was pretty good and the acting has definitly improved sooo much! so hats off to them. but i was a bit let dowm because harry and dumbledore's discussion got cut, and when sirius falls into the veil that was a little cheesy so i think they could've improved on that more, but otherwise it was really good, the special effects with dumbledore and voldemorts fight at the end was good too. i was missing the statues though, when voldemort "possesed" harry that was very good acting on daniial radcliffs part and i love wut they did to the eyes then too, although his line in the middle of that scene was cheesy too lol. but that was halarious wut fudge said right when he saw voldy. lol. but overall it was pretty good, about 15-30 more minutes and it could've been great i think.

Yes, well, I went to the midnight premiere!

And here is what I think...
Spoilers Ahead!Dementor Scene- I wasn't too fond of it. I have to say I liked the Dementor's old look. Also what was with Harry's patronus? How could he conjure it so easily when in the books he was struggling. And was it just me, but could you see a the stag? I just saw a silver cloud thingy. No stag...
Scene after Order Meeting- This is when Harry meets Sirius again. Molly and Arthur are standing there. Sirius comes up behind them and says 'Harry Potter' Harry walks/runs up to Sirius and hugs him, Remus leaning on the doorway, watching. I loved that. It shows the strong bond with Sirius and Harry. It brought tears to my eyes.
In Kings Cross Scene- Yeah, another Sirius one I liked. How Sirius showed the picture to Harry. And I saw Sirius satnding next to James and Lily, and they were so happy. Man that made me sad. But in a good way.
Occlumency Scenes- Well I thought those were good. I loved how they flashed to show all those memories. Especially when it showed Harry in front of the Mirror of Erised...
Marauders Scene- Hated it. That's all I think. They should have made it much longer. Shown Sirius, Peter, and Remus more. And where was Lily? And James... He looked horrible...
After the Kiss- When he was talking to Ron and Hermione. I liked that. I was happy to see they used 'emotional range of a teaspoon' line.
Black Family Tree- I liked it, another Sirius scene... How Harry explained what he thought to Sirius. It made me so sad that Harry would loose him.
Department of Mysteries- I thought they didn't do it all to well, and left things out. Where were the brains? That attacked Ron... I think they could of made it better.
Sirius' Death- I know you have metioned this. But why did Bellatrix use the Avada Kedavra curse?? It should have been the Stupefy curse. That annoyed me. But right after he died, I liked how it got quiet, and it showed Remus holding a screaming Harry back. Not only did I feel bad for Harry, but for Remus. Poor thing.
Dumbledore and Voldemort fight- I liked it. The spells, and the fire and water. As for Voldemort possesing Harry, I liked it. I think Dan did a good job on it, and I liked his eyes. Also when Harry was thinking of all those bad memories, it was sad. But I liked when Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Luna and Neville came in, he started to remember the good memories. That was sweet. Then when Fudge came in and said 'He's Back!' or whatever, that was funny.
Dumbledore Explaining the Prophecy- I didn't like it. They could have totally explained it more. I was looking forward to seeing Harry start yelling at Dumbledore... Lol.
Yep, So thats what I think. I know, I had a lot to say. I also want to add, I loved Luna! She was excellent. And there were some really funny lines. I also caught on soem R/Hr hints, and H/G. I could see Ginny sort of staring and glaring at Harry and Cho, that was funny.
But I also wondered where the Two Way Mirrors were... And as for scenes with Sirius, I almost always got sad, and my eyes teared up. That was because I knew his fate, and I love him so much, and wished he could live...
Also what was with the Nigel kid? Where are Collin and Dennis Creevey??
And one more thing. I didn't really like Harry and Cho's relationship. It showed them kissing, talking once, and then what? And I didn't like how it was Cho who ratted out the DA... Where was Marietta? Lol, okay, I'll stop adding more things now..
Overall, good job. It was a bit hard to follow at some points. How the scenes changed so quickly, but it was good! 8.6 out of 10!

So, I saw OotP last night at the midnight release and I have to say that this movie was by far the best to date. Yates did such a terrific job directing. From the very beginning of the movie you could definitely feel a looming darkness and danger. Almost if evil was in the very air. I honestly had goosebumps. I loved his interpretation of the book. I just have to say I'm so pleased that he agreed to do the sixth movie.
The acting on the trio's part was very well done. These kids whom we have watched grow up have really become fantastic at their craft and especially for Daniel Radcliff. As we've all read the book, we know how emotional Harry can be; in the movie Dan did such a great job portraying that edge Harry walked along; you know, a moment away from outburst. I can imagine how difficult some of the scenes were to create, but they were very well done. And Emma's portrayal of a somewhat changed Hermione. To see her stand beside Harry and promote a change, well, she did a great job. And then there's Rupert. Ron's character in the movies has always seemed to be of one for comic relief. Well, he played that part, but we also saw his unwaivering loyalty to his friend in the eve of this upcoming war.
And then there was Umbridge. Well, for my least favorite character in the books, she did a great job making me hate her on screen.
Of course, no movie has lived up to the book as well as the first film, and each film had its own variation, I have to say this one, this movie nailed the important factors of the story. I was a little disappointed by how they portrayed the death of Sirius. The book describes him as falling gracfully into the veil, and well, the movie portrayal was a bit different.
I don't want to give anything away about the movie, but go and see it and you won't be disappointed.

Oh my gosh Luna was amazing I loved her character even though she was a bit odd but she was so cute and funny. I loved her "I like pudding" lines.
I didnt like how Cho just kinda disappeared after the kissing scene weren't her and Harry supposed to break up and that never really happened
I liked the prophecy that made it much more clear to me Both can't live only one shall conquer the other so that means either voldemort or harry will kill one another while the other lives.
Bellatrix was awesome as well!!!
Grawp was really good too I loved how he gave hermione the bike handles and ron got jealous haha.
Fred and Georges big scene was so funny I loved it.
I liked the Dumbledore and Voldemort fighting scene it showed that Voldemort could do whatever and Dumbledore could defend it. Which shows why Dumbledore is the only one Voldemort ever feared
I liked how Voldemort got into Harry and how Harry fought it off after he saw his friends, I really liked the line "Voldemort doesn't have anything to fight for."
I cried so hard when sirius died
Definately my favorite movie and the best out of all 5 of them

Being a person who thoroughly enjoyed Prisoner of Azkaban, I have to say I really liked this one as well. Granted, there are some things that could have been better, but I still think they did a great job at adapting the book to the screen.
The Dementors--I really miss Cuaron's vision of them. They were much more creepy. I didn't like how they strangled Harry either. There's something about strangling in Harry Potter movies that I just don't like, whether it be Dumbledore or Dementors.
Umbridge--I have never simultaneously loved and hated a character so much. Her laugh was incredibly obnoxious and I really just wanted to punch her. Imelda Staunton was amazing. She did great. I was also glad they put the centaurs in for her demise.

Other characters: I am incredibly relieved that Dumbledore has been fixed from the terrible-ness of GoF. He was much more calm (except when he screamed at the kids in Trelawney's scene). His handling of the battle at the end was great. But where were his glasses??? Luan was good, but I think her voice is just...I dunno. I got used to it eventually, but it really sort of distracted me from Luna. But I thought Evanna did great and her Quibbler in the beginning was funny. She was a great Luna. Helena Bonham Carter also did a really great job. I really like her.
Cho and Harry--Lame. I thought it wasn't done very well and the kiss was too long. Though I really did enjoy Daniel's line of the kiss being "wet." I couldn't hear what any of the actors said after that though because the theatre was laughing.
Sirius--I am so crushed that they had Bellatrix say Avada Kedavra. That was incredibly disappointing. I think I'm still in denial from his death in the book. They didn't do enough for Sirius's death in my opinion. Lupin holding Harry was a little corny, but it was somewhat powerful. ANGST!
Possession--Surprisingly awesome. I thought they did great with it. That actually made me fog up (I don't know why...) worse than Sirius's death. Course, in the book, it was Harry screaming at Dumbledore that killed me.
Everything else--The thestrals were great. I thought they were really beautiful creations. Grawp was a little computery, but I actually enjoyed his scene. It was sweet. Hagrid deserved a little more time. As did Snape and his crappy memory. Erm...the prophecy sucked, but the Hall of Prophecies looked cool. Fred and George Apparating scared me to death. I'm in love with Ron/Rupert. I definitely think this one is the most cinematically beautiful out of all of them.

Out of 10 I give it 9 3/4.

Oh my god, "Step away from my godson" was amazing! The whole theatre cheered! And, you're right to be excited, it's AMAZING in imax 3d. I loved the "Put me down, Grawp!" line, also.
I also agree that Gambon (sp?) has improved a lot in this film. I really liked him as Dumbledore this time! Though, I still miss the old one

.
Ah, Sirius' death... yes, I agree with a lot of people that that was the only bad part of the movie. It was (for me, at least) the most traumatic moment in the entire series, and they just breezed through it like it was nothing.
I was horribly depressed when I heard Bella yell "avada kedavra!" I wanted to avada myself. I am still in denial over Sirius' death.
I was very, very upset that Sirius didn't give Harry the mirror. After all of Jo's interviews where she made it perfectly clear that said mirror was "off the table" and "not up for discussion," she just lets them disinclude it? I was really hoping for a link to it in book 7... a link that would bring Sirius back to us... but now...
Well, we will all find out in 9 days, won't we! Anyone going to a big event? I'm going to "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at the hallowed halls of Harvard"! It's a huge HP party that is going to take up all of Harvard Square (in Massachusetts). I am going with 4 girlfriends and we're all dressing up as students. I'm Slytherin... hehe. Big surprise, right?
My friends and I also dressed up for the movie last night. We made tank tops with our favorite house on the front (I was Slytherin) and our favorite character on the back (I was Snape) haha. We also had a Ginny, Tonks, Draco and McGonagall. The men wouldn't dress up. Buggers.
I can't wait for the dvd with the deleted scenes!!!

Favorite line was, naturally, all of the things Dumbledore said. I also thought it was powerfully EPIC when Sirius says "Good one, James!"... everything like stopped.. and I got a chill. It was good acting on Oldman's part.
"Witness for the defense.. Albus Percival Wulfric

I couldn't get enough!!

I dressed up as well. I dressed as Harry, my friend as Hermione, and her sister as Ron. We were got the title of best-dressed, most-knowledgeable (they did trivia, we
owned), and most devoted fans (we were first to arrive at the Theater)!! My camera died, but the owner of the theater took pics so I will post them when I can get a hold of them.

Lupin holding Harry was a little corny, but it was somewhat powerful. ANGST!
Aubrey, I'm surprised by your reaction. That part made me tear. The silence and Harry's reaction... it was powerful. But I agree, they could have done a little bit more with Sirius's death. His reaction alone was not what I expected.

Wow... I edit my post and *blam!* two new ones while I'm editing.
Yes, I forgot all about the "good one, James" line in the movie. I just sort of stopped breathing for a moment. Gary was incredible in this movie. I am going to sorely miss him in HBP.

Im suprised too. I didnt find it corny. That is, after all, how it was in the book. Lupin holds Harry back and then Harry breaks free to run after Bellatrix, just as they did in the movie.
I didn't like Sirius' death either. I was hoping for the stunner to the chest, with his body slowly arcing backwards.. like in the book. Rather, we get an Avada Kedavra and Sirius' slowly, and dead, drifting back into the Veil.

my theater had one imax showing last night at midnight and 4 normal showings. people were waiting since noon yesterday to see it in the normal theaters. i saw it in imax, got there at about 9 30, and it was great. it was my favorite movie by far but it has some things i didn't like. well the things it didn't have were quiditch, mrs. black, harry using floo to talk to sirius at the end, cho was the one who ratted on the da, cho's and harry's date, kreacher had a small part, the locket, mundungus, the swamps, peeves, and the two way mirrors, and much more.. It also didn't have the two best lines in the book, when peeves is unscrewing the chandelier mgonagal says it unscrews the other way, and when malfoy says your dead potter, funny you thought i would have stopped walking. lots of those things weren't really needed but the film could have been a little longer and some of that stuff could have been added. the acting was alot better, evanna was great, perfect at being luna, and stauton was awesome as umbridge. i thought the movie was acctually funny, there was alot of things that made me laugh, grawp being one of them but it was a much darker film, which is good. the begining of the movie is really fast and it seems like one day harrys at hogwarts, the next day its christmas. yates deffinantly liked the da because it seemed like that was the whole second half of the movie. i kind of thought those scenes were cheesy, yet good. dumbledore was alot better in this movie than gof. he didnt attack harry again, like in the trophy room. i was just a little angry that dumbledore used fawkes to escape. i was hoping to see him kick everyones butt in his office. tonks was good for the two times we saw her, there is a great scene where she actually uses her metamorphagus powers. but to cut to the chase.... the ending. sometimes it felt as if the 3d wasn't needed for a whole twenty minutes but with the fight between dumbledore and voldy it was amazing. the fight was huge, and when the glass shattered in 3d, it was too good for words. the dept of mysteries was too short, i wanted to see the brains shoot out in 3d. and sirius' death was so LAME. he got avada kedavred, which never happened in the book, and he just drifted away. the best part though was when harry was being possesed at the end. it was great. all in all i would give the movie about a 3 or 3.5 out of 4.

Thanks to the fourth director this movie was disappointing. The fourth director should have been competent enough to put in Crouch being kissed because if it doesn't happen there can't be a conflict. If Crouch lives Umbridge wouldn't teach, and the Order would probably have told the Ministry to guard the Dept. of Mysteries, Crouch could clear Sirius' name because he would simply be able to tell the Ministry Sirius was never a death eater. If Unmbridge doesn't teach there is most likely a competent teacher for DADA which if there is a teacher who is competent then the students would learn the spells they needed and Dumbledore's Army couldn't have been formed because it was used to learn DADA since Umbridge wouldn't teach them, and if there is no Umbridge there is no high inquisitor, or educational decrees therefore not only would Dumbledore's Army not exist but Dumbledore would remain at Hogwarts and if Sirius and Dumbledore were right there for Harry to talk to (which DD would let Harry talk to Sirius when he had to) when he needed them they could piece together Sirius in the Hall of Prophecies as a fake memory, Harry doesn't go to the Ministry and Sirius lives. All because the one person who can confirm Voldemort's return may be alive because there was no confirmation from the fourt or fifth movie that he was kissed.

well I know why they did the avada spell for sirius's death because in a movie the director gets told okay you have this much time to get through the whole movie and Im surprised they got it all done in 2 hours and 18 minutes. But its because everybody knows what Avada Kedavra means its the death spell but nobody knew about the stairway that was supposed to happen in the book because then they'd have to explain it and why its there. I cried so much when sirius died and how it went silent and lupin was holding harry back and how Bellatrix first reacted before she laughed you could tell by her reaction that she was shocked she killed her cousin but like any other death eater she put those feelings behind her and laughed about it. But when they were running around and harry had the prophecy in his hand even though you know whats going to happen I was yelling at him to just drop it and run

because it was aggrivating me.

Ummmm it sounded like your blaming the 4th director for this and it really isnt his fault, JK Rowling wrote the book but maybe I read your thing wrong??????

I totally love it! Best film! It is my favorite book as well. I went at midnight to see it! I wished they had kept in the quidditch though. I thought it was the funniest one yet, too. I'm definatly going to go see it again. The kiss was longer than I thought it was going to be! Sirius's death wasn't long enough. They just rushed by it.

I understand what you're saying, huskerfan9287, but the sole purpose of this film was to focus only on Harry and I think it did just that. I loved it!!! I thought it was great! I cried when Sirius died (thought it didn't happen the way it was supposed to...)!! I was disappointed about one thing though, they didn't put in the mirror that Sirius gave to Harry.
Now, it's been confirmed that David Yates wrote the film without Kreacher only to have J.K. Rowling put him right back in (btw, I like the Kreacher from the preliminaries). I assume that anything that was cut, but needed for the seventh film, Jo immediately corrected... Why, then, did she not include the mirror?
I fear this is going to be a problem amongst so many who have theories about it. It tears me to pieces!

Perosnally I wasn't a big fan of this movie, they skipped out on alot of details, but I thought taht it was the funniest out of the five movies so far, but to me it was a dissapointment, i was really looking forward to this movie, and I guess that I just got my hopes up for this super fantastic movie, which didn't happen. Kreatcher was only in it twice, and Hagrid, you missed out on his big exit, I'm also somewhat mad at the way they made Sirius die, in the book you don't even hear the spell, and for the DA, Cho wasn't supposed to tell! What was with the whole DA carving their hands? Ron and Hermione weren't prefects, that made me mad, and just to sum it up, great movie, but it was a dissappointment.

Yes JK Rowling wrote the book but the ending of the fourth movie is way off. In the fourth book Crouch gets the Kiss before the Ministry can interrogate him so the Ministry has no reason to believe Harry but in the fourth movie Crouch isn't kissed and is still alive to bear witness to Voldemort's return and killing the plot to the fifth movie

i personally loved it but i did have some comments. i went with two people that were die hard fans like me and 2 people who only watch the movies, and although the book fans loved it, my other friends were terribly confused.
i think they should've taken the time to explain things. like, i thought that talk with dumbledore was going to be fifteen minutes long with harry throwing things around, but instead it was only 2 minutes long.
and the scene in snapes office with the memory (which was supposed to be the pensieve) wasn't explained. harry just completly ignored it. didn't even go to ask sirius at grimauld place. but all well..
but overall i truley loved the movie. dan's acting improved. and the DA scenes were wonderful. i think this is the best movie by far. LARGE improvement from goblet of fire.
the most powerful scene iin the movie was the possession and the whole "step away from my godson!"
and that first grawp scene with the bell was hilarious.

Oh my gosh.
I think it was well done, Dan really acted sooo much better in this film than the others but I was soooo miffed because Emma (who was gorgeous btw) stole ALL the lines and Rupert was reduced to funny little quips with the occasional serious line here and there.
Luna was absolutely brilliant. She is perfect, exactly how she should have been. I loved her in this film.
I was also really disappointed, being the dedicated Lily/James obsessed shipper, in Snape's worst memory. That was awful. They portrayed James to be really mean and awful and maybe he was, but that was just too awful. Also I was very sad that we didn't get a good look at young Sirius or Lily(!). Young Snape was quite the catch though, his long nose has never looked so sexy ahaha.
I loved Umbridge as well. She was right on spot with the book. I think there was a great balance of humor and darkness to this film. I was laughing hysterically and then ripped right out of that happiness to be tossed to sadness and what not. It was enjoyable.
I kinda felt like the movie was all jam-packed. There was SO much going on in every scene I have a hard time remembering it all. But it was a long book eh?
It was satisfactory to see the romances more pronounced, as someone said earlier. Such as Hermione and Ron with Grawp and Ginny and Harry around Cho. Ginny was really awesome, She was preforming some wicked spells and I like the emphasis on her power.
All in all. I'm very pleased with the movie. I would have tweaked a few things though. Emma is getting better as an actress I noticed, but still extremely ametuer. Dan is better too, his anger was believable and Ron didn't get to really present any acting at all, sadly.
I cannot wait to see it again!

I saw the movie last night and I saw the kiss. It was longer then I expected, I mean wow! I thought it was going to be short and sweet. Like 3 seconds or whatever. But then it's like 10 seconds long! I loved how they led up to it too, with the nargles in the mistletoe. Anyone saw it yet?

Hi there
I am afraid that we already have a thread discussing the kissing in OotP, which you can find

Now that I'm... awake

... I think I'll add a bit more.
There was one part where I almost couldn't watch. In the final scene where Voldemort is leaving Harry's body, I was stunned. It was frightening; so much so I felt like I had to, but couldn't, look away from the screen. Actually, for a quick comparison, I couldn't help but be reminded of the Exorcist and the Exorcism of Emily Rose. It's all in the way the eyes look and the body moves that just gives it that feeling of demonic possession. *goosebumps*
Out of all of the movies so far, this exact part in this movie was the time where I felt the most sympathy for Harry.

I'm glad they silenced Harry. Although his yelling has improved, i think that could have killed it - like a kind of GoF scream

But yeah, Harry's reaction brought tears to my eyes. I thought it was sadly beautiful.
But you know what i just realised? NO cheesy comments! No "I love magic", etc. etc. like there ALWAYS seems to be in the movies. To tell you the truth, i did not cringe in embarrassment once in this movie - unlike the countless times I did in GoF.

Okay, call me crazy, but I thought it was THE worst movie out of all 4. A complete waste of my favorite book. *please don't hurt me!*
It was just so DIFFERENT! It hardly showed Ron and Hermoine, they took out so much from the book, and the whole time it was just so DEPRESSING! Maybe if they put a little more from the book, it would've been better, but...definetly not that good.
The worst part is that they didn't play Hedwig's theme like, at all! It was some weird music! And it was so different from the other movies, it was like Harry went to another school or something! It didn't even explain anything. Like the hearing, they just WENT. There was no explaining that there was going to be a hearing. I only got it because I read the book like, 40 times. My friend kept asking me all these questions because she didn't read the books, and she kept getting confused because they didn't explain anything. I really don't think David Yates did a good job, no offense.
Out of one to ten, I'd give it a 4. *sorry, sorry!*
The one good thing I liked was Luna. She did a FANTASTIC JOB! Brilliant! Oh, and another thing was Fred and George. They really did well!

Don't worry, I won't attack you!

I was just wondering though, isn't the main theme of this movie based on Harry's depressing oneliness since he feels isolated from the wizarding community? No one except his best friends believe him, yet he gets annoyed at them coz they still don't really understand (even though they try to). It's a very angsty book in itself and since a movie has no words to say this, isolating harry so often emphasises this IMO.

Yes, it is lp_supastar, and thats probably why I thought it wasn't as good. Daniel did a good job of making Harry seem angry, and thas why I thought it was depressing. that wasn't the WHOLE reason why I didn't like this movie though. But I loved the book (it's my favorite), so I wonder why I didn't like this movie...
Plus, that music was really bringing me down

Ok, I have some serious thoughts here.
The first time I read book 5, I hated it. It was depressing and dark and made me almost hate Harry. After I finished it, and especially after I read it twice, it easily became my favorite book.
So, on this note, even though I LOVED this movie the first time, I went to see it again today... and I liked it even better the second time! Just like the book!
See, the book leaves the reader with a sad, morbid, depressed feeling. It is supposed to do that. The movie left the viewers with the same feeling, which is amazing. The movie never gives the viewers the same feelings as the book does the reader, but this one did. It was utterly brilliant.
To anyone who says they didn't like this movie, I implore you, please, please PLEASE go see it again and see if you change your mind.

I think that everyone has a very good point in the fact that the movie skips around A LOT. I didn't really think about those that haven't read the books. If you have read the books I think the movie will be much better than if you haven't. There are definitely things that make it really hard to understand if you don't know what is going on. My thoughts to those of you that haven't read the books: read them all they are better than every movie!

Just got back from seeing the movie. I was very disappointed. It kind of reminded me of those wierd movies they made in the 70s (I know most of you weren't around then, but believe me, they were wierd). I thought it was choppy, disjointed and somewhat out of order.
I have to admit, though, that since I only started reading the books this past Christmas, this is the first movie I've seen after reading it's book. I know there's an awful lot to condense into 2 hours, but it seemed that they tried to put in a little about most stuff and ended up making it hard to understand. I kept wondering how it would seem to someone that hadn't read the book and knew what it all meant.
There have been a lot of comments on how the new DD was better in this one, but I didn't see it. He has scenes where he looks scared, confused and/or unsure of himself, but in the book he always seems to know everything and be one step ahead of everyone else.
For what little we see of Snape's memory, they might as well have left it out and used the money they saved to make it longer.
One of the few scenes I did like were the ones with the DA.
I was so looking forward to this movie and now I'm just disappointed. Maybe I was expecting too much.
I only hope my high anticipation of the Deathly Hallows doesn't cause me to be disappointed with it too.
I'd give the movie a 6 out of 10.
