I saw Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix today. I thought it was very dark, but I liked it. However, at the end, when Luna was putting up posters for her lost things, I noticed what she said, and I didn't notice it as much in the book. She said, "My mom always said, 'the things you lose always come back in the end, in some way'". Or something like that. I was thinking. If the things always come back, then I think we can be sure that Sirius will come back because Harry lost him. I also think that in a way, this signifies Harry's death in the seventh book. He lost his parents, so maybe he will find them if he dies. I am kind of prediction that Harry, Voldemort, and Luna will die. (Luna because she lost her mom). I also find that every time Trelawny makes a prediction, it comes true. So we know that the prophecy should definately come true, like all her other predictions. If this comes true, could Luna and Professor Trelawny be related in some way? Opinons???

While I don't think that Luna and Trelawney are related, I do think that this will be Luna's "Loony thought that will come true." I love her open mind, and although I thought I wouldn't like the actress who played her in the movie, her acting was PERFECT!

Now, the actual quote in the book was slightly different, it didn't mention in one form or another... but it was basically the same and I immediately took it to mean Sirius would be back.

I don't think it will be until after the fight with Voldemort, but I think that it will happen.

I also agree with you on Trelawney... at first I thought that she was a fraud. After my 3rd re-reading of the series, one book right after another, where I made a list of all of her predictions, I realized that sometimes, what looked like a bad prediction in one book, came true in another. She had very few, if any predictions that did not come true... let's hope her big blunder was her prediction that Harry will die!

I agree with you on both counts - in particular, the movie really made Luna's quote more significant as it was juxtaposed with Sirius's death in a more obvious fashion, and made me more certain than I was that Sirius's return is in store.

Concerning Professor Trelawney, it is very funny and clever of Rowling to cast such ridicule upon her from the perspective of the other characters, while we as readers see that there is more to her predictions than meets the eye. I'd never thought about it before you mentioned it, samsmom, but the possibility of Harry's death would certainly fit into this in a very cruel and direct way. Especially in the HBP, her predictions are more accurate as we see her using playing cards to predict the future. At one point, she draws out the "knave of spades" which says that a young man is nearby who dislikes the fortune-teller, not knowing that Harry is in the vicinity, and also near the end, she draws out the lightning-struck tower, hence the title of that chapter where everything goes wrong. The lightning-struck tower predicts something like disaster or danger in the near future.

I'd say Trelawney is a fraud AND genuine. She obviously doesn't realize she actually has the gift. She thinks she's just pretending, and so does almost everyone else. Most of her predictions have been totally false. She has predicted Harry would die in a hundred different ways, a hundred different times, and it hasn't happened any of those times. Most of her major predictions are only true when she is in trance mode, and she doesn't even know about those predictions.

Her first name is Sybil for a reason. JK Rowling obviously named her after the famous true story of Sybil, the woman with multiple personalities. And we see that Sybil Trelawney's demeanor totally changes when she is in trance mode. The name is very fitting.

But now that you guys have mentioned it, she is oddly accurate even with her "false" predictions. What's interesting is that the Lightning Struck Tower card not only predicted disaster, but in this case, a literal tower. tongue.gif

And yes, Luna's quote made it pretty obvious that Sirius will return. Her quote was something like "The things we lose always come back to us, just not always in the way you expect". So Sirius will probably come back somehow, but in an unexpected, surprising way. He won't just be pulled back through the veil, it's going to be something much more shocking, perhaps he won't even really return to life.

hello there

well first something of Luna's acting. She was excellent. i cannot picture another Luna.

but now to get back to the topic

well i would not say that Luna and Trelawny are related however who says that Luna is not related to a Seer. I know it sounds stupid but maby Luna's got some attributes of a Seer so maby there is one in her family. who knows

yes all of trelawny's predictions became true so i think that that is the way it wil happen in DH.

On the lost thing. I dont think that sirius will come back (however i would like it). But i still have a feeling that Harry's parents and Dumbledore will come back. i dont know why but ya

Seeing as this is a thread speculating on Deathly Hallows I'm going to archive it there, but I should point out that there are two other threads where this could have been discussed:
Trelawney's predictions
Sirirus's fate

In any case, topic locked. tongue.gif
