ok, this is really random and irrelavant to any of the HP plot but it has been really bugging me for years and i wondered if anyone else noticed?

In the beginning of the PS movie, when harry gets the post for uncle vernon, he passes over the letters but keeps hold of his hogwarts letter. he walks along and stops and just stares at the envelope, then turns it over to open when the little git Dudley (or not so little git)snatches it shouting "harry's got a letter!"- now am i imagining it or does the wax sealing the letter fly off when Dudley snatches it and land in the jug of orange juice? i know its really silly and i dont know how i ever noticed it but now every time i watch i always look and it really bugs me. i think it does, has anyone else noticed?
p.s sorry im such a wierdo smile.gif

I had to watch that part to have a look and the seal does go flying but it doesn't land in the orange juice. The juice was moving because Dudley bumped the table, nothing else. It looks like the seal went flying over to the window behind Dudley's chair, so I can see why you thought it might have gone in the juice.

ok i read what you said so went and whacked PS on and sat with a bowl of jelly for 5 minutes watching and re watching and i still think it goes in the juice. i get ur bit about the juice moving because of dudley but in my eyes it looks like the wax goes nowhere near that far away(window). i was sad enough to pause it when dudley snatches it and it looks as though it just goes up in the air and then down not far away from the two of them. it doesnt go behind dudley it goes infront of him.
thanks for bothering to watch that part biggrin.gif
hmmm i really have too much time on my hands to be debating over something so pointless! maybe i should take up a new hobby or something. cool.gif

Ok, seeing as you both disagreed on what was in the movie, I felt compelled to see for myself. I found my copy of PS and popped it in the computer.

I used the slow motion feature at the time when Dudley grabs the letter and the seal flies over the table and behind the chair toward the window like Triad said. Dudley (and perhaps Harry too) then bump the table in the fray and cause the juice to move. The seal does not go anywhere near the juice and doesnt even land on the table.

I can definitively say that the seal does not go into the orange juice. Slow down the movie and you will see between running time 9 mins 13 seconds and 9 mins 14 seconds that the seal fly toward the window.

Thank you Tom, I have no idea how to make it slow down on my video player (really should by the dvd) and was hoping to find stills on the net to prove I was right. Now I don't have to because there's someone else whose seen what I did!! Yay! I watched PS today and I really wanted to just watch this one part over and over and try and prove I was right, but I couldn't slow it down. Pause made it blurry. Anyway, Thanks Tom!!!!

Oh my gosh. We potter fans are sad sots aren't we? I am so tempted to go home and watch it to see for myself. Even though I can't tonight, I know that the next time I see that scene, I'm going to think about this now. It's like the wizard of oz "munchkin hangs himself" rumor (which isn't true, by the way), except more innane. It completely hyjacks that scene in my head. I'll think of that every time now. ohmy.gif

Of course, who am I to talk about crazy harry potter fans when I'm going to see OotP for the third time tonight.

Hey, it's at the IMAX. It's in 3D. Give me a break.
