Full Version: House Elves And There Apparent Lack Of Being.

I'm sure that you all have noticed the extreme lack of house elves in the fourth movie. I have yet to see the fifth, but in a preview of the fifth I saw something that had to do with a lack of house elves, I can't correctly remember.
I think that this is a entirely bad move on the part of the director in that I love the house elves and Nevill just wouldn't have given Harry the spinich like substance. (sorry, don't have the book on-hand to find the name of the stuff). I think that I wouln't have been that hard to put Dobby into the movie, and everyone would have been much happier if there were house elves. Anyone disagree?

I agree with you. (by the way, the spinach stuff is gillyweed.) I wish the house-elves were in the movies more. I understand why they were cut, just for time reasons, and they could find ways to go around them, but I think the movie would have been better if they were included. How will they make DH now?

That's what I was thinking.

I just don't see how they are just going to randomly throw them back in after ignoring them for so long.
There are other things they do that with

I guess they will find a different way to do it, we shall see...

I am so mad at the movies. I personally love all the house elves in the books, dobby, winky and kreacher. When i first saw the fourth movie i was annoyed b/c neither winky or dobby was in it. And then was i saw the fifth movie and the only house elf in it was Kreacher. I think that the movies are going to totally forget about dobby, and all the other house elfs sad.gif

I am well aware that it is just impossible to squeeze a six-hundred-page book into a two-hour movie and cuts are simply a necessity. I agree here with tonks&lunalvr that the directors could do without the elves so far, as I think, and now let us face the truth, the elves have not been the most important driving forces of the story.

My relation to the house elves is highly positive and I think they are such lovely creatures. By their portrayal the last two films would have certainly done justice to them and to the variety of the wizarding universe in general. By leaving them out from the movies the world of Harry Potter becomes rather flat with witches and wizards as nearly the only magical creatures inhabiting it. Which is of course a rather one-dimensional perception. House elves just contribute to the diversity and complexity of Harry Potter world.

I am pretty sure that in the last two movies the directors won't be able to do without the elves. And I wouldn't be even as skeptical about it as lancelot243 when you say that

I don't think it will be that difficult to introduce them in the movies as both of them, Kreacher and Dobby, have already appeared in the previous movies so they will just reappear when the need for their actions comes. And I am so much looking forward to that moment.
