This is a questions thats been burning at the back of my head for some time now.
I have been meaning to post this but keep neglecting to do so.
I got 30 minutes to burn so I though I would post it now
...
Did Mrs. Weasley know that Harry and Ginny went out?
Does she know they they broke up?

I need to know these things=)

Wizengamot edited to let you know that I've changed the title to make it more easy to identify the topic
Albus Dumbledore
I think she knew perfectly well.

There are many ways she could have been told... Ginny simply could have written home and explained her newfound love, Ron could have mentioned it in a letter, Fred and George could have found out via other students and told her. Any of those as likely as the next.

We must also look to the Order. There are members of the Order of the Phoenix employed at Hogwarts as well as stationed there by the Ministry... I'm sure it would be very easy and likely that one of them, Tonks perhaps, told Mrs. Weasley about Ginny and Harry...

Who knows really how she found out? I suppose it doesn't matter because Harry and Ginny are not trying to hide it.

Emphasis is mine.

I do think that Molly knew of H/G getting together. I believe they were together for 2-3 weeks, so Molly most assuredly found out. Molly probably heard it first from Ginny - via owl perhaps, since there aren't any fellytones in the wizarding world. tongue.gif

However, I doubt that Molly has found out that they have broken up since they just broke up at the end of HBP. Most likely, at the start of book 7, Molly will have been told of the break up.

Just my two sickles!

The romance of Harry and Ginny was the talk of Hogwarts. Therefore, it's almost a certainty that Molly Weasley knows. When Mrs. Weasley came to Hogwarts for Bill, she definitely saw how Harry and Ginny interacted. Nothing could deceive her eyes, especially, as Albus said, Harry and Ginny made no efforts to hide it. Mrs. Weasley has been wise not to interfere.

Harry chose to break up the relationship a few hours before boarding the train back home. Hence, if Harry nor Ginny speaks up, nobody will not know about the break up until everybody is home. Nor did he mention anything to Ron and Hermione, with whom he most likely to share the compartment. Therefore, until the end of Book 6, there is no chance for Harry or Ginny to inform others about the breakup, including Mrs. Weasley.

Thanks for your input everyone.
I guess that help quit a bit.
And you are all right, now that I think of it im sure she knew.
=D

I think she probrly did know that H/G dated, G would have most likely told her.I think Mrs Weasley would have known H/G broke up, it was obvious in DH that they weren't dating & Mrs Weasley isn't stupid, so she would have figured it out, unless G told her. huh.gif

Yeah, Molly would have found out somehow. If not by owl or a member of the Order letting her know, she would have found out when she came to see Bill because of how Harry and Ginny interacted with each other. As for if she knew about the breakup, that's more complicated.

Dont think so, but if he knew!. . .Poor Harry xDD JK JK!!
I'm pretty sure Mr.Weasley wouldnt mind I mean come on in OotP he saved his life so....yeah!I think Mrs.Weasley wouldnt mind either its not like Harry is a pervert or anything like that
Tinkerbella
Yeah I think she knew.I think that Ginny would be proud to tell her family that she was going out with Harry, after all he is well loved by the whole family.I think she knew anyway tho to be honest, probably george or Fred told her.
Weasley_Wannabe
I don't think she knew. She probably would have said something to Harry or even to Ginny about it. I don't think she knew. She might of had a clue but didn't think it possible between them. Sorry, I doubt she knew. happy.gif
Potterfan7
Remember that Ginny and Harry never acted any differently around each other than they all ready had done while with the Weasley family. Harry's relationship with Ginny started at Hogwarts and ended at Hogwarts. Mrs. Weasley had no idea that her little girl had done some major growing up during her fifth year at Hogwarts or for that matter during her fourth year.

Well said, Potterfan7.....'ear 'ear! laugh.gif

I have a question.....Why don't the people in charge around here like one-lined posts? What if thats all you can write? What it you could only write a post that had one line in it. If you wrote more than one line, you'd die, or get blown up? Huh? Whats so wrong with one-lined posts? I say ONE LINERS ALL THE WAY BABY!

You know, you might be right about Molly not knowing. Molly strikes me as the type that would have given Harry the cold shoulder while at the Burrow the summer after he and Ginny broke up! After all, this is her baby girl whose heart that myopic boy wonder broke! Let's remember that Molly was not so nice to Hermione when she believed what Rita Skeeter had written about her and Harry! I do think that Molly had decided quite sometime ago that her little princess was going to snag the-boy-that-lived!

It's quite possible that Molly did not know that Harry and Ginny had been seeing one another because their courtship was so short and then suddenly over. It's hard to actually believe that someone didn't tell her, but I think that if she had known she would have given Harry a lot of grief and some attitude when he was at the Burrow the following summer. IMO, that's just the way she is.

Yes, I completely agree. Mrs. Weasley acted the same as always towards Harry. It seemed like the whole family knew Ginny's big crush on Harry, so if they broke up would Mrs. Weasley be a little... apprehensive towards him?

Then again, she knows the great risk he's in. She knows that Voldemort's only after him, and maybe she saw it wise for Harry to break up with Ginny because if he was killed, then Ginny's heart wouldn't be as broken if they were still going out, or that Ginny might be put in more danger by being Harry's girlfriend.

As for if Mrs.Weasley knew, I don't think she did. Maybe it's me, but I wouldn't write home and tell my parents that I have a boyfriend, maybe it could have been intercepted. Order members know how little privacy Harry has, and maybe that wanted him to tell Mrs. Weasley himself. As far as any of her brothers, they don't seem like the sort to tell, but they would worry about Ginny themselves instead of worrying their parents.
Weasley_Wannabe
I agree with the last two people who wrote. I don't think she knew because Molly seems to me like she likes Harry alot more than her children (not to say she doesn't love her children, She does but Harry is very special to her too). She would have said something to Harry about dating Ginny and whatnot. I think because their courtship was ended as quickly as it had started, she never knew a thing, nor did her brothers. Excluding Ron. smile.gif
lunalunatic
I would guess that Mrs.Weasly did know because she does seem sort of nosey and it was the talk of Hogwarts , but I dont recall JK saying anything in the book about her knowing..
#chochang#
Well it's no use asking. I wish JKR just put in Ginny as Ron's sister the whole time not as Harry's girlfriend. Personally, i think she is gross and totally cold. About Mrs Weasley knowing, she mightn't have had a problem as Harry's a great person. Harry's probably better of with Hermione.

Ginny stinks!

I'm pretty sure Molly knew. How could she not, what with the whole H/G relationship being the talk of Hogwarts. Molly probably danced a jig when she found out. Let's face it, Molly, like a lot of mothers, wants nothing but the best for her daughter. Harry is the famed the boy that lived, the son of her friends, a relatively sweet boy (despite his upbringing), courageous, not so bad looking (he can always condition his hair to keep it from going out in all directions, and he can switch to contac lenses!), he likes Ginny, and he's wealthy. What more can a mother ask for?

there are many ways that she could have found out that they were going out but i think that she never found out because after they had broken up she was still really friendly about it because i think that if she did find out she wouldn't be so friendly with harry after that so my gess is no or she could have sound out and didn't mind and let ron handle it because she didn't wont to interfere with her daughters love life and upset her or harry and when they brock up she knew that it was for the best so if it was that i would proberly say yes but harry potter love is confusing so i don't know i'm confused mellow.gif ohmy.gif huh.gif blink.gif wacko.gif wink.gif
snargaluffpod
Now that I think about it, she might not have known. Because she would have said something or acted differently... or maybe not. Mothers are weird about their kids love lives, she might have known, but chose not to say anything about it to Harry since there really much for her to say. Does that even make sense? huh.gif
Pawprint
I think Molly knew. When she was little, Ginny talked a lot about Harry and Harry has always been a regular to the family, staying over and everyhting. He's a family friend.

Mothers know, and if Ginny was upset when they broke up (she must have been), her mom would have assumed.

Also, Fred and George were always aware of who Ginny was dating, even after they left school. Them knowing might have led into their mom knowing as well.

And come to think of it, I guess we can only assume: just like lunalunatic said, I don't recall JKR saying anything in the books.
On the other hand, Molly loves Harry almost or as a son, and she has always understood how hard his life has been for him, so, give the huge burden he has to carry around, she might not make a big deal, but understand why he broke up with Ginny in the first place, and appreciate the fact that he doesn't want to put her in danger.
Ginevra_hena
It's indeed pretty obvious Molly Weasley knew. I mean, I'd be pretty surprised if the whole weasley family didn't already knew. Since Ron told about Dean Thomas to Fred and George, it makes sense that he told about Harry too. So, they'd, I guess be pretty happy, I mean it's Harry Potter isn't it? So, everybody knew.
Vontsje
I think she did know they were dating. Everybody talked about it at Hogwarts, so she must of heared something. But I'm not sure she knew about their split. But Ron probably told her later.
Nevilesmylife
I also think that Mrs. Weasely knew. Ginny always really liked Harry and was probibly really happy when they got together. Ginny was probably so exited, and since she is the Weasley's on;y daughter she told her mom.
kylepn
I think Ginny might of mentioned it in maybe a letter or something and Mrs.Weasley proboly got real excited. I think no one told her they broke up she could just tell, she's not dumb you know!

I imaigne she did probably know. She must have noticed her daugther had a crush on Harry for a while. ( Mother's don't miss a trick.) biggrin.gif She probbly kept it to herself and let Ginny come to her, to talk about if she wanted. Ginny probably told her anyway, in the summer after the events of HBP. Mrs Weasley being kind probably didn't talk to Harry aobut it. Because she didn't want him embarassed, or feel uncomfortable for splitting up with her.
None the less it would have become obvious after the Battle in DH.
tonks&lunalvr
Mrs. Weasly must have known. Daugheters with a relationship like Ginny had with Molly would have told their mom. Besides, it was such a big deal for pretty much everyone. Harry=international celebrity, I think one way or another word probably got around, but personally, I bet Ginny told her mom though.
MissRandom
This topic makes me think. On one hand, Mrs.Weasley is very all for love and wanted Lupin to get with Tonks and comforted Tonks allot. On the other hand, Mrs.Weasley is very two-faced with think s like love when it comes to her children. She views Harry like a son in some ways. Just look how she acts after reading the Prophet in Goblet of Fire about Hermione. In other ways she just views him as a good kid who needn't have all this world saving stuff on him.

Let's assume for a moment she did know. I don't think she would've let Harry and Ginny be alone to set the table. Or she was doing this purposfully to get them back together. Either way, I think she would have talked about it a bit more to them both... weather or not they were 'meant to be' in her oppinion.

Now let's assume she didn't know. She'd probably just think that Ginny was sulking about not wanting to be able to go with Harry, Ron and Hermione (Ron tells Harry that she was messed up after he broke up with her). And she'd probably try to get it out of her daughter, but Ginny wouldn't tell.

So I think she didn't know. She wasn't acting defensive or offensive either way...
E.Austen
Certainly she knew. She would have heard from someone, since the whole school was buzzing after Harry and Ginny started dating.

And I think she'd wanted them to get together, so why should anybody hide it from her?
