Why are people so amazed at the deaths and carnage as the series comes to a conclusion? It is war. A raging climax. War brings death. Voldemort's death was surprising. I thought JKRowling would have formulated a way of bringing him down that would be more humiliating. Like the loss of his powers, becoming a squib or something. Death was an easy way out for him. Unless he is permanently the baby-like creature at Kings Cross.

Yeah, I think that that baby like creature at King's Cross is what Voldemort is supposed to be after death.
Well anyways, what death surprised me the most was Fred's. Eventhough with the others, I didn't expect them to die such as Dobby and poor Hedwig who was refusing to talk to Harry before her death, none of them affected me much as reading Fred's. I knew that a Weasley was going to die but Fred would have never been one of my choices. Also he and George are my favorite so you know, they were on the bottom of my most likely Weasley death list next to Percy. Instead, I was thinking probably Ginny, Ron most definatley, or even Mr and Mrs. Weasley. It hurt to see Fred die, and I'm sad.

And Poor George, they were so close.

I think the deaths up until Harry's were meant just as they were (or should have been). Haryy thinks, "Death is impatient". Sometimes not knowing how someone dies makes it more agonizing, and terrible.
Dobby dies a hero's death, though the wizarding world thinks of them as lesser beings.
Mad-eye goes in heat of duty. Perfect.
Fred is taken without warning or fanfare. Shockingly real. The Weasley's could not go through unscathed though you almost thought they would.
Snape dies non-descriptly in anonymity, just as he lived.
Peter dies through his hesitation. He has always been shown as hesitant toward everything.
Tonks and Lupin. The world is seen through Harry's eyes only. He cannot be everywhere and all-seeing, and the senselessness of death is perfectly portrayed by these two---new parents and all---they just are dead. Should Rowling have given more explanation? I do not think so. Harry needed to see them without knowing to hasten him on to his destiny. HE needed to see that as long as this continued, there would be more orphaning of children.
Crabbe? Bad decisions and losing your head in hatred does you in. Draco chooses life.
I thought Bellatrix would be done in by Ms. Longbottom or Neville, but Neville got the snake, so all's good.
The more I think about it, the more I agree with her choices. I just wonder who got the reprieve.

Colin Creevy's death surprised me a lot, as did Crabbe's. I liked Colin, but I'm glad Crabbe died after trying to kill Hermione. And I didn't expet Pettigrew to kill himself. I was really upset by Fred, Dobby, and Tonks's deaths, but I sort expected Lupin to die.

Lupin, Tonks, Dobby and Fred's death all really shocked me. I really loved all those people. Lupin and Tonks would never know their son, but at least Harry would have been able to counsel Teddy as he went through the same thing. Dobby was such a good and funny character. He was always loyal to Harry. I never really expected any of the Weasley's to get killed so it came as a real shock when Fred died.

I think like most people it was Fred and Dobbys untimely deaths that were the hardest and most suprising. Also with Tonks and lUpin because I thought it was quite late and the battle and was led into the false sense of security they would live. But Fred the most. I think it would have been less heart wrenching if George died too. It was awful. I wasn't very suprised with Mad-EYe. I never predicted it but I knew order members were likely to die. Scrimgeour also came as somewhat a suprise and Colin Creevey as well.

For me, it was when Dobby died. I just wasn't expecting it and i cried. Fred was completly unexpected and just after Percy came back too! Oh great, and when Tonks and Lupin ... i thought they
were sleeping at first, but alas ... nooooo.
DH was sad. And when Hedwig died, that was pretty shocking. I didn't think that was going to happen, but i understand now why it happened-what was Hewig suposed to do while Horcrux hunting?
Also, Mrs Weasley killing Bellatrix was pretty shocking, though i was like "Shot Mrs Weasley!"
And when harry died! That was the sadest ... even after he came back because everyone was yelling out for him, and ... oh i cried then ...
Overall, everything was shocking.

to be honest Fred's death not only shocked!! me but really kinda made me mad. I cried for pretty much two days. I knew that one of the Weasleys had to die the only two that i honestly didnt belive that she would kill would be the twins. sigh... it makes me sad just thinking about fred. The other deaths that shocked me, mainly because they seemed really unneccessary losses, were Lupin , Tonks, and Colin Creevy. I was so upset that right after the birth of their son both of them actually had to die. I was thinking that JK might do the who parallel with harry thing when he made harry godfather but i hoped she wouldnt. And Colin... seriously why?? it just sort of jumped out of no where and really was a heart breaking scene.

Fred's death shocked me the most, and made me sad! I've always loved the characters of Fred and George, and it was horrible to see him die!! I started crying when I read the part where he died! I also was shocked by Hedwig's death. Why did JKR need to kill Hedwig? To me, it felt like she didn't want to have to write about Hedwig during the trio's journey to find the horcruxes, so she figured she would just kill the owl. Anyways, all of the deaths in the book shocked me (well, except for Voldemort's) but these two shocked me the most!

I wouldn't really say any of the deaths completely shocked me because I was always just expecting the worst. I understood freds death as the constant support of the weasley's and sacrifices they all made, I would have expected any of the to die.
I thought killing off madeye was a good way to start to set in a frame of hopelessness. He was such a powerful auror and would have been expected to put up the biggest fight, which is precisely why he did not have harry go with him. He knew he would receive the most attack. Made perfect sense.
I love dobby and thought he was truly honored.
The deaths during the battle, though quick and nondescript, I thought made sense. Not necessarily as to who died, but why there was so little on their deaths. I saw it as a good way to how deaths are often seen in battles. Although these people are held to the greatest honor, very little know how they died and who killed that. It's the essence of dying in battle. Throughout many wars, bodies have been left at the field, deaths unknown, unmarked graves. Although that might not have been the though behind our author, I choose to allude to my own thoughts of how they died. How they served. I think I just tend to be too positive of a person.
I think she knows what she's doing and I don't really try to question, just enjoy myself.[font=Arial]

It still brings tears to my eyes when I think of Fred's death. He was my absolute favorite character and never for a second have I thought it possible for Rowling to kill him off. The world of Harry Potter will never be the same for me, because Fred was such a big part of it. I keep trying to think of it as if Percy was the one who died, but it's hard. It really broke my heart when Fred fell

, I know he's just a fictional character but I always thought of him as of a friend.

FRED!!!! This death hit me the hardest. I know a lot of people have been talking about how they were expecting one of the twins to die, but I honestly never even considered it. I mean, I didn't doubt that a Weasley would die; as others have said, there are so many of them. But I never saw this coming. I loved the twins. For Fred to die seemed so pointless, just adding another body to the pile...he didn't even die in a meaningful way. He was fighting and laughing and cracking jokes, and out of nowhere, an explosion and when the smoke clears...he's just dead. He didn't die protecting someone. He didn't die taking down a Death Eater with him. He wasn't even just hit with a well-placed spell in the midst of his brave battling. Just BOOM, the wall explodes. To be honest, once Percy had returned, I kind of saw it as him being the one who died...you know, just reunited with his family, together again, and he goes down at least back on the right side. But Fred...if anything, both of them should've died, because while that would've made me terribly sad, it's even worse to leave George behind without his twin. I cried for the longest time when I realized Fred was dead at the end of that chapter, and it took me a while to pull myself back together enough to continue reading, and even as I read through the rest of Fred's (too short) death scene, I was still crying. It was just such a horrible shock, and upset me SO much. It shouldn't have happened. I cried even more with the scene in the Great Hall, with George at his head, because he's now alone. Why was he killed? He didn't deserve it, and George doesn't deserve to suffer through it...yes, I understand it's a war, but separating the two of them is just cruel. It should be all or nothing, and it should have been nothing, because the Weasley twins can't die; they provide so much laughter, bring around the lighthearted side to everything, even George losing his ear. That was another thing that cemented my belief neither would die. They'd already been attacked, they should have been fine. Not killed. They had so much ahead of them, and yes, they knew the risks, but it wasn't fair or kind. I still cried thinking about it as I continued reading, and the more I thought about it after I'd finished reading the book, the more upset and teary I grew at his death and George being alone and the angrier I grew at JK.
Dobby!! This was the second most difficult one for me to deal with. He was such an innocent soul, one who'd done no wrong, and was fully devoted to Harry. He was the sweetest person, and willing to do anything to help Harry Potter that he possibly could. I cried when he and Harry realized he had been stabbed and when he died, and from there I continued to cry all through Harry's struggle through Dobby's death and when he was digging his grave. The grave-digging scene was very touching and poignant, showing just how much Harry cared for Dobby, in that he was doing it by real manual labour, working for Dobby, not just with a flick of his wand. While I find it terrible that he died, and of course very sad, I do believe that JK Rowling did his death and the events that followed great justice, and the way he died, though I believe he ought not to have died at all, was amazing.
Hedwig. Yes, I did cry when Hedwig died. It took me a second to realize what had happened, and I had to reread the line, but once it had sunk in I started crying. I loved Hedwig; she was a wonderful pet, always there for Harry, had been since the beginning, really the only friend he had when he was staying at Privet Drive, and they were so close. I also thought immediately of the bad terms they had ended on, Hedwig mad at him, and the fact that he had to destroy her cage with her body inside was just awful...the whole thing kept me crying. Thinking back on it now, though, I do recognize it was a bit of a plot device, as it would have been rather difficult to travel around with an owl...but she could have stayed with the Weasleys, she didn't have to be killed! It was completely unneccessary and awful.
Tonks and Lupin. This was another line I had to go back and reread, as it was practically mentioned in passing, combined with the two-or-three-liner showing the Weasleys' mourning Fred's death, seeming almost as if it wasn't all that important. Not only is it terrible that they died in the first place - and yes, once I'd realized what had happened, I did cry - but it was so crudely portrayed. Basically 'they were lying on the table with the OTHER DEAD.' As if they weren't anything special. Not to mention the horrible fact of the son that they had left behind - of course I didn't miss the significant similarity of poor Teddy's situation to Harry's, and that just makes it worse. Again, it was practically purposeless, as it was never explained and they're just tossed in there to have more named dead people. But it was just terrible that they BOTH died, orphaning their child at home. They should have been left alone, they had so much LIFE still, just married, raising their new baby...it's so horribly sad. Just awful. Upset me so much.
Mad-Eye Moody. I hated this, though it did not come as too much of a shock; though at the same time, I didn't see it coming. I mean, you expect a man like Moody to go in battle; it's really the only fitting way, and it would have been a disgrace for him to die any other way. On the other hand, he was so powerful, so skilled, such an amazing Auror, and he was basically brought down because of idiot Dung's cowardice. ::hate for Dung:: I have mixed feelings...I couldn't see him dying differently, peacefully, it was just his way, but it still upset me. I cried for Moody...I luff him.
Colin Creevey. This one came as a big shock, as well. It was another out of nowhere...Neville's just walking by, and you realize the limp body in his arms is sweet, innocent little Colin Creevey, who should've been gone from the castle, but snuck back to help fight...it's just BAM, What?! Where did he come from?! He's dead?! It was just awful...he was such a little sweetie, and he looked up to Harry so much, and he was just the best kid...and to have him dead, especially in the way described, "he was small in death"...that made me cry. I heart precious Colin.
Ted Tonks. It made me sad to hear that Tonks's dad had died...he was a really neat guy, and finding out he was dead...I also thought of how awful it must have been for Tonks, losing a parent...it was upsetting.
Snape. I didn't cry at the actual time of Snape's death, because I was still on the fence about his true alliegiance, even though I'd been more leaning towards the positive side since I'd had the idea drifting around in my head for a while that everything had been orchestrated by Dumbledore (most likely provided by some HP site), but after reading back on all of Snape's memories involving Lily and Dumbledore, I did cry. I felt awful for poor Snape that he suffered through unrequited love for all those years, then his love's death, and how he continued to love her, "always"...and just everything with Dumbledore. And then thinking back on how he wanted Harry to look into his eyes before he died, just to see Lily's eyes...it all made me feel so bad for him...and while I'm not exactly surprised that he died, I really didn't see it coming in that way. I luff him.
Crabbe. I know there's never really been any evidence supporting this, as Crabbe has just mostly been silent and subservient to Draco for all these years, but I was really surprised by how basically smart-like and evil and calculating and scheming and conniving and all that he really was...I was like, O_O?! When did this happen?! He was stupid!! ...I mean, I thought he was stupid!! What is happening here?! That was a big shocker for me. However, his death did not surprise me, nor, needless to say, upset me. Just wanted to mention my all-encompassing shock.
Bellatrix. While Bellatrix, I have to admit, was a rather cool (though evil and loathsome) character, her death was neither shocking nor upsetting, but awesome. Just awesome. I love Molly so much. This just reinforced how amazingly awesome she is and made my love for her grow immensely. She is really just stunning. All I can say is...never threaten a mother's cubs. Twice the threat if the mother is a witch, and thrice a Weasley. Double that by adding the wonderful fact that she is Molly and you have someone unstoppable. She is an amazing character, a brilliant fighter with brilliant skill and power, and a wonderful fiery personality...awesome war cry. GO, Molly! Take THAT, Bellatrix!
Well, that's all of the deaths that I really wanted to discuss...but back onto the subject of Fred, Tonks and Lupin. It really, really bothers me and makes me mad how she basically glossed over all of their deaths, just describing Fred's death and not showing Tonks and Lupin's at all, and just a brief image of the Weasleys' grief over the loss of Fred, and no mourning for the latter two. She didn't go into their feelings at all, especially, as I think I mentioned earlier, what George went through at the loss of his twin, of the one closest to him, who he spent all his time with, and how terrible it might have been. Except for a few lines, she showed none of their reactions, and again, nothing for Tonks and Lupin. These were very significant deaths, ones that shouldn't have happened at all, but nonetheless, since she did make them happen (grrr/sob...especially for FRED!), she could have at least done their deaths justice, and the feelings of those they left behind. The whole thing was very poorly dealt with, barely addressed at all in the interest of Harry hurrying off on his own, ignoring and dismissing anything else, especially something as important as this.

I going to have to say that it was Dobby and Hedwig for me.... I cried with both of these and these were the only ones to... I was kind of expecting everyone else to die but it was these two that hit me hardest... Ecspecially when she took Hedwig so early in the book... I couldn't believe it... But I was glad that Dobby died saving Harry.... But stilll... WHY JK???

Another death that gobsmacked me was Dobby's. I never expected it.
Gosh, all the deaths were so unpredictable!!! My two predictions for deaths were Hagrid and Dobby. i thought Dobby was going to die, but when it happened, it was so quick, i didnt expect it!!! i think the others that really got me were Hedwig (i loved her!!!!!!!!!!) and Tonks with Lupin. they just had a child, how could they die!?!?!?!

but, i guess everything went well in the end...

Before I rant I must say I loved the book but I missed not being able to see the grief and the loss at say the funerals.I mean Lupin and Tonks had left their child behind and I would have liked to have seen how Harry felt at Snapes funeral. We got a sense of how he felt about him in the epilogue but I would have liked to have seen a little more.
Most people have already said it but Lupin and Tonks was horrible.I expected Lupin to die before 7 came out but then throughout the book I was conflicted. When he said Tonks was pregnant I thought they'd both be ok but then when he asked Harry to be godfather i got worried so in the end I wasn't that prepared. But it was so quick and brutal. It felt like their deaths were simply a way of making Harry feel worse because they had left their child to fight for him and died doing it.Also there were no funerals

.I felt it was the least they deserved.
Fred's death was just as bad and I wasn't prepared at all to lose one of the twins

.
I cried more over Dobby who I have never really liked or disliked than I did for Lupin,Tonks and Fred which is surprising since obviously I love Lupin.
The way Snape died shocked me-not so much why he died or that he died cause I felt he would but I thought it would be through some sort of heroics although I think now that I prefer the way he died because in a way Snape didn't need to have that kind of death. It showed how Voldemort didn't even care about killing one of his closest followers(as he believed) and his entire life was heroic because he had done everything in his power to protect harry and every time he faced Voldemort and lied to his face was an act of supreme bravery.

I think that Lupin's death served to show the rise of a new generation of wizards, filling the void of the fallen Marauders. The deaths of Wormtail, Snape and Lupin in this last book in addition to the previous deaths of James, Sirius and Lily wipes clean the whole "crew" from that incredible class of Hogwarts and with Mad-Eye and Tonks gone as well, most of the older wizards from the original Order are gone (although Tonks is actually much younger). I guess this helped to set up the epilogue dominated by Harry's generation and his children, although that hardly seems a justifiable reason. I think that it is not the epilogue itself but the idea that it conveys, the changing of the guard if you will, that Rowling was aiming for in these deaths. Along these lines, Fred's death seems very arbitrary as he was a great embodiment of the younger generation, and Tonks, Dobby and Hedwig were unnecessary as well.

I actually wasnt surprised at all by Dobby's death. JK had already shown in previous books how Dobby would do anything to help Harry and that to me was a foreshadowing of Dobby's paying the ultimate price for Harry Potter. But I still cried when I read it.
I had a feeling from the beginning that both Wormtail and Lupin would die, meaning all the Marauders were gone. Interestedly enough, they died in reverse order from what they are listed on the Map. The Map list them as
Messrs. Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs. Prongs died first, then Padfoot, Wormtail, and finnally Moony.
When Lupin made Harry Teddy's godfather I knew that was the end of both Lupin and Tonks. The only other person whose godfather is mentioned in the books is Harry's (Sirius), and Harry's parents had both died too.
The death that surprised me the most was Fred's

. I thought that if any Weasley dies it would be Percy; I thought he would come back to the family for the final battle and die to save one of the other Weasleys (most likely one of the twins because his relationship with them had probablly always been worse). I did like that he died laughing, very fitting seeing as we almost always saw Fred and George laughing and joking. Also that Percy was the one that gave Fred his final laugh was great; that seemed to me to be the point where Percy truly reconciled with the family as he reconciled with one of the twins with whom he had never really gotten along.
I was quite disappointed that JK didn't explain Lupin, Tonks, and Colin Creevey's deaths more. Colin had barely appeared in the books at all except CoS and OotP, so his death was pretty pointless. But really all these people as well as Moody and Hedwig died because they were Harry's friends and close to him. They died to spur Harry forward and to allow himself to let Voldemort kill him; it was the only way that nobody else he cared about would die.

I think Fred's death was definitely the most shocking one, specially since he had just made up with Percy and they were both battling together again, they were a family once more, and all of a sudden he's just not there anymore. You can see Percy crying and you can't help but to think that Percy's world has just come crashing down, he must be feeling guilty that he lost all that time with his brother, and devastated that once he admitted his mistake and redeemed himself fate decided to punish by taking his brother away from him... Percy's presence definitely adds to making Fred's the most shocking death.
Dobby's death also came to me as a shock. He was the most devoted living thing in the world and he admired Harry so much; he was kind of like a child to whom Harry was a hero and to imagine Dobby's watery eyes look down and find himself soaked with blood with a knife sticking out of him is so shocking, because he was so innocent and child-like.

I'm crying now just thinking about Fred. I still can't believe it. He died happy, just the way he lived.
It was a shock, but I must admit as soon as Percy made that joke and Fred heard it I just knew. I started freaking out and I didn't want to continue. But when I did and I read Fred died. I spazzed. I sobbed for ten minutes straight.
I miss you Fred.

It was Lupin and Tonks for me... The way it was written, something like "laying there as if they were sleeping", led me to beleive that they really were kust sleeping, because there is no way JKR would kill off Teddy Tonk's parents. He was just a aby, after all!
But come ot think of it, every death was shocking except for Voldemort. Thats the only one i guessed correctly.

I could never have imagined Fred being dead. I just never thought it possible. He always brought such comic relief to these novels and always made me smile. When he died I just stared at the page. I could not believe what I was reading...I had to re-read it over and over before it finaly sunk in.I then of course, cried

I liked how he died with "the ghost of his last laugh etched upon his face..."

I think Hedwig's death shocked me the most because it was so early on...and she was already in a bad mood and mad at Harry that I felt bad for her. Dobby's death made me cry. I love house elves, I even liked Kreatcher when he was mean. I expected some main characters to die, so while Fred's death was shocking, I handled it. When Hagrid fell and I saw the title of the following chapter, I got very upset, but was quickly relieved. I felt bad about Tonks and Lupin as well. RIP to all that died.

Fred. As one of my favourite characters, I always thought he would...be there. I probably read the lines about ten times before it sunk it. I loved him (and all the Weasleys!) so much!!!!
Lupin and Tonks. Like everyone's said before, they were just kind of there, and then they were gone.
Dobby's upset me so much. I cried like a moron. He was such a sweet character! I loved him from the first time we met him in CoS. He seemed like he'd always be around.

I was shocked by Hedwigs, Fred's, Lupin and Tonks but the only one I cried for was Dobby. When he died I remember my mother, who has never read the books and is not planning on reading them, turned to me and asked who had died and I told her Dobby. She has seen the second movie so she knows who he is and she got a little upset herself.
I got upset when I found at just how Regulus died cause I am a fan of Regulus. So much so that I named my dog after him. Actually my dogs name is now Regulus Dobby Black, though we just call him Reggie for short.

I guess they all shocked me but the ones that hit me most were Hedwig's death ( Oh no! I mean, Hedwig! *cry*), Fred's death ( my friend is suffering very much from this), Dobby's death ( my other friend saying ''Dobby died, Dobby died, Dobby died......'') and Remus and Tonks's death. I was definately expecting deaths. Important ones, too.
Pre-Book 7, I went through who I thought most likely to die, who I wanted to die, and who I hoped didn't die.
One of those characters that I just took for granted would always be there was... Dobby. I was shocked after he died, especially since he had just reappeared for the first time this book, and had just saved everyone.
The other deaths were significant and neccessary, but Dobby's? I just couldn't believe it.

I was shocked by most of the deaths Hedwig's was one, the one i was mostly shocked with was Fred's i couldn't believe she killed him off, it wouldn't be the same without them both. I kind of expected Moody, or at least i understand it could of been a possibility afterall he was a great wizard, although was an accident, kind of felt it would happen.

Fred. Oh my. I was so upset. I just couldn't believe it.
Dobby. Awwww. [How are they going to do this in the movie? They cut him like full on out of the script...] I found it so cute that Harry made a grave for him.
Even though it is a book, I still find it sad. You have been with these characters for the whole journey and you find out that they are killed off in the end.
Okay, within the first, what, 10 pages? Hedwig. I mean common, was that necessary? That was horrible!!
Moody, I had sort of expected to die; he is an auror, and that is what he does. Aurors basically risk their lives for their job, knowing that something could happen to them. Even though it was a full on accident, it still, i think, was expected.
I was shocked for all of them, but I really cried for Fred and Dobby. =[

I thought I would do a thread on this as one has not been done, hope it's all right to do this, it'll help people if they forgot who died.
Charity Burbage was killed by Lord Voldemort in the Malfoy Manor while the Death Eaters gathered. She was the ex- Muggle Studies teacher and Voldemort disapproved of her teachings.
Hedwig, Harry's female owl, was killed by a death eater (unsure who) while flying from Little Whinging.
Alastor Moody was killed by Voldemort after Mundungus Fletcher made a cowardly escape. Voldemort presumed Harry Potter would travel with the strongest auror and Mundungus panicked then disapparated.
Rufus Scrimgeor was killed when Voldemort and the Death Eaters invaded the Ministry. They tried to get Harry's whereabouts but we are told he does not tell them.
A German speaking lady and her family were killed by Voldemort when they proved unhelpful. They lived in Gregorovitch's old home.
Gregorovitch was killed by Voldemort when he refused to give information about the Elder Wand; one of the three Hallows which Voldemort wished to possess.
Bathilda Bagshot was presumably killed by Nagini, Voldemort or a Death Eater as her body was used as Nagini's disguise to wait and then attack Harry Potter.
The following were killed by The Snatchers who were look for Mud Bloods and Blood Traitors:
Ted Tonks
Dirk Cresswell
Gornuk
Peter Pettigrew was killed by his own silver hand which was reward from Voldemort. It seems the hand was going to kill him after he pays his debt to Harry Potter, if he was.
Gellert Grindewald was killed by Voldemort when he untruthfully told him that he was never in possession of the Elder Wand in trying to prevent any evil.
Dobby the house elf was killed by Bellatrix Lestrange's knife in the escape from Malfoy's Manor.
The following were killed in The Battle Of Hogwarts, beside them is who they were killed by and after all the names there will be a couple of notes:
Vincent Crabbe - Vincent Crabbe
Fred Weasley - Unknown
Remus Lupin - Presumably Antonin Dolohov (Death Eater)
Nymphadora Tonks - Unknown but was seen chasing after Remus Lupin to aid him
Colin Creevey - Unknown
Severus Snape - Nagini
Nagini - Neville Longbottom
Antonin Dolohov - Professor Flitwick
Bellatrix Lestrange - Molly Weasley
Lord Voldemort - Lord Voldemort
Crabbe killed himself, by accident, using cursed fire which could not put out.
Severus Snape was killed by Nagini under the orders of Voldemort to help Voldemort get the Elder Wand.
Lord Voldemort's killing curse rebounced off Harry Potter's disarming spell because Harry Potter was the Elder Wand's true master.
Sorry if this thread already been done or I am not aloud to do it. Please, if i missed anyone out tell me.

Yes, I'm here again. This time I'd like to put my thoughts on everyone's death... Here we go...
To Charity Burbage - I'm sure you were a very good teacher. I wish we could've gotten to see you teach. I'm sure you will be missed by Hogwarts staff and students.
To Alastar 'Mad-Eye' Moody - You were a great Auror. Yes, partly crazy and paraniod, but good. You worked for the Order, and died for it. you are a hero. I know that Tonks misses you greatly.
To Hedwig - Oh, Hedwig! Harry's first friend!! I couldn't believe Hedwig died, Harry's first pet! I really miss the loyal owl that was Hedwig...I was very upset by Hedwigs death. I was almost at the point of crying out loud. We will all miss you Hedwig. Rest in Peace.
To Rufus Scrimgeour - You were annoying, and pestered Harry constatntly. You were always very nosy about Dumbledore. I wasn't sad for your death, yet thanks for not giving away Harry's location to the Death Eaters.
To the unnamed German family who did not know the whereabouts of Gregorovitch - I'm sorry. You couldn't see it coming. You didn't deserve to die.
To Gregorovitch himself - You were a good wand-maker. It wasn't your fault. You didn't deserve to die.
To Bathilda Bagshot - You passed countless knowledge on through yor books, They will continue to educate young students. Thank you.
To Ted Tonks, Dirk Cresswell, Gornuck and the unnamed muggles mudered by Death Eaters - I wish I could say I knew you, alas, I did not. But Rest assured taht your loved ones miss you. Lee Jordan said it best.
To Peter Pettigrew - You deserved to die. You betrayed your friends. I'm not sorry.
To Dobby - Dobby, the loyal sweet houself died! Dobby was always so nice, loyal, and true to Harry. You died a hero, Dobby. You did a great part in the war. All your human and elfish friends alike miss you.
To the Death Eaters who died at Malfoy Manor - You deserved it! For all the crimes you've commited.
To Vincent Crabbe - You were stupid, and it cost you... Oh well.
To Fred Weasley - *sigh* Fred's death was hard, I was extremely upset by Fred's death though, because, he and George were split up once and for all. But all I could think was why him?? Why not Percy, I didn't care for him nearly as much! The dynamic duo, of Gred and Forge is no more! Only George, one ear George! Poor him. But at least Fred died with a smile on his face. But still it would've been better had he not gone at all. Thank you for all the smiles you broght to people's faces. You will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace.
Rubeus Hagrid - I know he did not die! But for a while I thought he did, and my gosh, I was so sad. Thanks for living!
To Severus Snape - You made Hogwarts horrible for Harry at first. But you were good. You were an excellent wizard, for fooling Voldemort. In the end, you wished to see Harry's eyes, Lily's eyes, one last time. You let Harry understand everything. Your death was undeserved, yet you were a hero. Rest in Peace.
To Lupin and Tonks - I am so sorry to see Remus go, and my eyes were filling with tears when Harry talked with him using the Resurection Stone. Tonks, didn't effect me quite so much, I didn't know her as well. Plus Tonks, and Remus' deaths were kind of sudden for me, so I couldn't quite let it sink in. But because they had a little son, Teddy. Who was then an orphan, that was sad. But you both are missed. Remus, you led such a hard life as a werewolf, yet you were always strong. But I must say, in the end, sadly, Remus is where he belongs. With James, Lily, Sirius, and Tonks... Rest In Peace. You are heroes of war,
To Colin Creevey - You were a loyal fan of Harry. We can all relate. You took great photos, and will be missed.
To Harry Potter - Same as Hagrid, I know he did not die. But when he was walking into the forest, to death, I was repeating in my mind 'Oh my god. She's actually killing Harry! No!' But thank goodness she didn't! Thanks for living.
To Nagini - You were a snake, you killed people, like Snape as well. You were controlled by Voldemort. What more is there to say?
To Bellatrix Lestrange - You took Neville's parents from him, and Sirius from us. You deserved it. I am not sorry at all.
To the fifty others who died fighting - You died fighting. Fighting as hereos. Thank you.
And Finally,
To Tom 'Voldemort' Riddle - You started this war. You killed, tortured and destroyed. You made Harry's and so many others' lives horrible. Yet were would this story be without you? You needed to die, to give Harry true peace. It started and ended with you.
To those you died earlier... Ariana, Kendra, and Albus Dumbledore. James and Lily Potter. Sirius and Regulus Black. Cedric Diggory. Madame Bones. You were all good, and are missed. You died by Jo, and are still remembered. Thank you for your part in the series, each different then the rest. Rest in Peace.
And now, I light a candle in remembrance for all those who died in DH and the HP series, by Jo's pen. *Lights candle*

I was so sad when Hedwig died, it was the only time I had cried after a character's death. I think the reason for me being so upset about this was the way Harry explained it in his head. He said that she had always been there for him and then when she was suddenly taken away, it was just horrible, it kind of demonstrated how I would feel after the book was over - like I had lost a friend.

I almost cried when Hedwig dies! It was just so sad because she was like Harry's 24/7 companion since he found out he was a wizard. And Fred... wow, I actually DID cry when I read that. I loved him! I felt worse for George though because... well, yeah. It was his other half! And Lupin and Tonks was really sad too.

In terms of shock. I think that Mad-Eye's death was the greatest shock to me. I just wasn't expecting it.The mere irony of it all, he always talked to others about safety and yet he was the one to die. Ahhh it was so shocking that I couldn't cry..well I had tears in my eyes. Good old Mad-Eye. Wasn't it a bit fishy that they couldnt find his body and then Umbridge happens to find his Magical Eye and later on in the Gringotts chapter there is a man with a bandaged eye.

Of all the deaths, Hedwig was the most shocking. She was not a combatent, she was neither a wizard or elf or any other being that pickedup arms for either side. But her death set a tone for the whole book.

I was sad that Hedwig died she was soo important to Harry and then POOF no more Hedwig.I was also really upset with Remus dieing, because now there are no more Marauders in Harry's life. Harry wont ever be able to ask Lupin about his father and the Marauders, which is Sad.

I thought that Hedwig, Lupin, Moody, and Colin were easy characters to kill off. However, Dobby's, Fred's, and Tonks's deaths came as a real shock. Dobby's death was really stunning. I never would have seen his death coming. Perhaps it was this shock, and the manner of his death that made his the saddest in the book. Se gap lai nhe.

At first I would like to say that I was really shocked by most of the mentioned deaths. Firstly because I really liked the characters, but also because some of the deaths seemed really unnecessary.
So I wanted to open a topic to discus the reason of those death's instead of discussing which death shocked us most, but when I did, passerby told me that i should use this topic...
Here is wat I wrote in the topic I tried to open:
I wonder why Fred, Colin, Hedwig, Tonks and Lupin had to die.
Some death's in HP really made sense to me, like those of Harry's parents, Dumbledore's, Cedric's and Snapes (because they seemed to be unavoidable or because they added something to the plot; they made certain things possible)
But the death's of Lupin and Tonks, for instance, are barely mentioned and not explained at all
The death's of Sirius and Dobby made a little more sense to me, but didn't seem unavoidable either...
Was it just because some persons needed to die to make the story more impressive and to add some credibitety? Of course, there was a WAR going on, I understand that as well as I understand that people die in war. But why were it THESE ones who had to die?? JKR didn't really explain that (though unlike in a real war, she had the change to chose who were going te die, or do we have to believe that she picked them totally random? Well I don't, I keep thinging she must have had certain reasons to choose these characters)
Do you have other and better theories?
(I just came up with a couple of examples of people who died, but of course there are other death's to be questioned as well)

The most shocking or unexpected death was, for me, the death of Vincent Crabbe. (not that it was sad in any way). You hadn't heard about Crabbe and Goyle for most of the book, and suddenly they were there, and then he killed himself. I mean, I had expected death eaters to die, maybe even Draco, but Crabbe was just a stupid, untalended boy, and not even a DE.
The deaths that was the most sad were Fred and Dobby. I won't be the same withoout them.

The death that really really really struck me was without doubt, absolutely, definitely FRED’s!! I really didn’t want Fred to die his death really shocked me. He and George were my favourite characters!! It’s just cruel killing Fred!

George and he were like one identity, what’s George going to do without his brother? First I was laughing till I cried about their jokes (“Whoah – we’re identical!” after transforming in Harry’s

) then I was crying and crying because he died!! It’s just hard to imagine George living on without Fred
First I hoped he just took the wrong skiving snack box, pretending to be dead or something like that. That he just woke up and asked if he’d missed the biggest fun. Yeah he has but he’ll never find out

It's like all the humour has left the world, or at least the half of all the humour because George still lives but he'll never be the because he has lost a part of himself now
Dobby’s death and all the others Lupin, Tonks, Hedwig’s, etcetera, shocked me too, but not as much as Fred’s did = O I’m hoping they’re not going to film that scene, then maybe I’ve the impression that he’s not really gone

Well, I had originally read what Jo had said wrong, and I thought she meant that only two characters would die. But most of the deaths threw me, because, like, Hedwig for instance. I was reading and then all of a sudden it was like "She got hit." I hadn't read it closely enough for some stupid reason and I hadn't realized that she was dead. But the deaths of Lupin and Tonks sort of threw me because I was just like "Wait... they're dead??"
What's interesting about Lupin and Tonks dying is that in Books 5 and 6, Lupin gets out of those completely unharmed. In both battles he's the only one where there is no mention of him getting hurt at all. It kind of makes me wonder, then, if, like, Tonks got hit first and Lupin was distracted and in that second where he wasn't paying attention he was killed.

In case anyone else was keeping track: 17 named people, a snake, and an owl died in this book.
Poor defenceless
Hedwig. I loved her. She stood by Harry always. Even during the summer holidays when she was stuck in her cage eating vegetables. What was the point in her death?
Dobby the house elf. So funny and considerate, again he didn't need to die.
Mad Eye,
Tonks and
Lupin the members of the Order. I was suprised that Mad Eye died so early on in the book, and I was suprised that BOTH Tonks and Lupin died - although we don't really know how. They left Teddy.
Fred's death was also very sad. You can't have a twin die. You just can't. There's no sense in it.
Snape , well he died a hero in my eyes.
LV - well he got what he deserve - sort of. It was due.

Hedwig: she
didn't deserve what she got!! Poor owl, I really was in shock when I read about that.
Mad-Eye Moody: he was a tough man!! but yes, Voldemort killed him, he had no chance. Mundungus I hate him!! It was his fault Moody died. But he died fighting a death worthy of him.
Fred: NOO!!!!! What was that! First his twin lost an ear and then he dies!! nononon fred always the laughing guy, he was making a joke when he was killed! Nonono. That was horrible.
Dobby: I felt so sorry for him. He was a very loyal elf, and very brave. My respects for him. R.I.P. When I told my sister that Dobby was dead I felt my eyes burn. I will always respect him no matter what.
Tonks and Lupin:

They caught me off guard. I started crying thinking about their little child. Nononononno

They're heroes.

Well the biggest shock was when I thought that Harry had died, but after that it was between Dobby, Tonks & Remus! I didn't know what to think, I couldn't read cuz my eyes were so out of shape!
Is it me or did more of the Order die than of the Death Eaters?

I think you misunderstood JKR. She said two die that she didn't intend to kill. So, she planned on killing 15 characters in the first place and added the other two later.
