This thread is for those unanswered questions that you might have. The 'but what about....' moments. This is NOT for things that you didn't understand or for the 'but why did...' with someone else to come along and explain it to you, but rather those things that you feel that JKR didn't cover, or that have been left open and that you don't know about.

For example, do you think Stan Shunpike was really under the Imperius curse, or was he a Death Eater?

What happened to Moody's body? We know that the Ministry got his eye, so I'm assuming that they found his body too... did they bury it? or did they only find the eye and the body was elsewhere?

What happened to Luna and all of the other students that aren't covered in the epilogue?

How did Lupin and Tonks die? It mentioned Harry seeing their bodies, but how did they die? Who killed them? This is for all those people who might want to seek revenge on the Death Eater or whoever that did it. Were they killed by the same person? Did one die trying to save the other, only to get killed following? What happened?!?!

What other questions do you have?
Just the Droobles
Other than the questions above, I would still like to know who was the person who was supposed to do magic late in life? Did I totally miss that or...? Was it ever answered? huh.gif

Another thing, though not really to do with the books is the reprieved character and the two that weren't supposed to die. Which were those?

I can't really think of much else. Those are bad questions and very general, but I would still like to know.

Oh...what ever happened to Travers? Did he get out of that hidey hole?

I have a vague recollection of him being at the Battle of Hogwarts.

Yep, as well as the above, I thought the veil may have been explained, but maybe it didn't need to be.

The one that is really bugging me though is the magic later in life one. I am going to re-read this week, more slowly and look out for this.
gaburdette
The magic late in life has me stumped also. In the Prince's Tale, we see Lily trying to get Petunia into Hogwarts. The mention Dumbledore's letter to Petunia. What was in that letter? Did Lily want Petunia to attend as a Muggle or was Lily trying to get her witch sister to attend Hogwarts and tried to get Albus to convince her to attend.

So was Petunia a Witch who refused magic or a Muggle? Anyone pick up something in the book I missed? What about Dudley? He made a big switch in the beginning and we never again see what happened to him? I would have liked to get some hint on what became of the Dursleys.

One final question if someone can answer it. How did Neville get the Sword of Gryffindor? I do not see the Goblins giving it away. Did his grandmother buy it back and give it to Neville at Hogwarts?
Triad
Greg, I may have an answer to your question about Neville. My sister was wondering the same thing when she came up this theory - Neville was forced to wear the Sorting Hat wasn't he? Right before the next battle. Just like Harry is CoS it's possible he was asking it for help and out popped the Sword. There's no telling what enchatments Godric could have put on the Hat to have the Sword return to it after it's been taken out so it's very possible that's where he got it from. It makes sense after all. I don't think the Goblins would let anyone buy it back because of what happened last time, it didn't get returned. But for the right price they might have....hmmm. I'm goning to stick with the Sorting Hat theory.

I too would like to know about the deaths. It seems like she was just trying to do away with them quickly. Siruis in the Veil, Luipin, Tonks. Their deaths just weren't befitting members of the Phoenix.

I'll guess it was Petunia, I reckon it was she who made the branch fall when Snape and Lily were watching. They both were too shocked to have done it, but of course not being trained their magic could have slipped out, but I still think she did it. That would then explain her sudden turnabout when Lily went off to school. Her tiny experience with magic hurt her and now she hated it.

I want to know more about Aberforth. Why did he send Dobby to help Harry? Was it some promise he made to Albus that he'd protect him? Or did Snape put him up to it? I'm not sure if it was covered in the book, I'll have to re-read and take notes.
El Barto
If it was Petunia, or anyone for that matter, that would show magic later in life, would they suppressed it and have come out like Dumbledore's sister? Or was that a special case since the Muggles tormented her? Also, if it was later in life, it still wouldn't have been Petunia due to us not seeing her after they left Privet Drive. blink.gif Right?

I don't really understand the Trace. In the topic called "Riddle Magically Excluded?" we were discussing this very thing about Tom Riddle being excluded from the magical community on purpose by Dumbledore. Does it only go into affect once you're a student?

About the mirror, though. How did it come into Aberforth's possession? Was it still in effect ever since Harry had tried to talk to Sirius at the end of book 5?
gaburdette
Thanks Triad! You answer is the one that makes the most sense. Since it was Godric's Sword, it may have been magically bound to his Sorting Hat.

QUOTE(El Barto)
About the mirror, though. How did it come into Aberforth's possession? Was it still in effect ever since Harry had tried to talk to Sirius at the end of book 5?

I can answer that one. Aberforth told Harry he bought the mirror off Mundangus. This was part of the stuff Harry caught Mundangus with at the bar.

The Trace needed to be explained better. Did we not get told that the ministry could only detect underage magic in situations like Harry's when there were no other witches or wizards present? They could not tell the difference between Dobby's hover charm and Harry's patronus charm. Is the Trace new to the Ministry? I believe it was the Weasley's who said the ministry relied on the parents to enforce the underage rule in wizard homes.
Pixymajik
Reading through other areas, I thought of more questions that I expected to be answered in the last book

We were meant to be told what the Potter's did for a living, but that didn't happen. So what did they do?

Tahra mentioned the veil and elaborating on that, what was the deal with it? And Luna being able to hear people through the other side as well. What was the point of the veil if it wasn't come back to?

What happened to the Dursleys? Did Harry and Dudley become closer as adults? Is it possible that Dudley might have had magical children?

What happened to Fawkes? He just disappeared, but I don't remember there being anything in Phoenix-lore that if the owner dies then the phoenix-pet dies too.

What did Dudley see when the dementors attacked him?

How did the Potters 'thrice defy Voldemort'?

The whole DoM is still somewhat a mystery actually...

The Potions book, which was such a huge part of HBP, seems to be somewhat redundant overall. Harry didn't use anything that he'd learnt from Snape, including the new spells, other than Muffilato. So what was the point?

I'm sure I'll come up with more shortly....
Hilly
My most burning questions is that of the veil. I am simply intrigued by it and wish to know so much more about it. I thought, in the final installment, we would get some kind of another chance with it, but I guess not. Although it might not being incredibly important to the story (other than the fact it took away one of my most favorite characters), I want to know what it is and why it is there.

I also want to know about Aberforth. Where did he go after his confrontation with Albus at his sister's funeral? There seems to me to be gaps in his history. What had he done before becoming a bartender in Hogsmeade?

I would also like a little explanation of Harry and Dumbledore's little chat after Harry 'died'. Although I loved it, I didn't completely understand it. Were they simply on a different plane of existence between the living and the dead, some sort of limbo? What did Dumbledore mean by the 'party' comment?

Although I might answer this as typing, who became leader of the Order? Did they are just merely work together?

As I'm lacking necessary sleep at the moment, those were the only ones that truly formed in my head... Thoughts keep drifting in and out and speculating more questions but not forming them. I suppose I might be back tomorrow when I've caught up on my sleep. wink.gif I also have been wanting the answer to your questions, Shelly.
Triad
Regarding Fawkes, I think I read somewhere that if a wizard can tame one they remain faithful to their new owner, so I assume that once the owner dies the Phoenix is free to do whatever they want again. In HBP it said -
QUOTE
And he knew, without knowing how he knew it, that the phoenix had gone, had left Hogwarts for good, just as Dumbledore had left the school, had left the world...had left Harry.
Fawkes left that night forever.

I'd like to know if Hermiones paretns came back alright. She wasn't sure if she'd done the spell right so I want to know if she did and if she reversed it correctly. And same with the Dursleys, I'd like to know if they got out alright and if their experience changed how they viewed Wizards.

About Stan, he was sent to Azkaban wasn't he? Well it would only have been too easy to Confund him wouldn't it? I reckon he was Confunded, he wasn't the type to turn DE.

I'd like to know why the Centaurs decided to turn on LV. They said all along it was noe of their business so why turn now? Was it because of what Hagrid said to them? How he broke down and they, perhaps, came to realise that this new terror was worse then the original?

I'd also like an explanation on why she added the spiders. Did LV do something to them or say something to them to turn them on Hogwarts? We know he was in their clearing when Harry arrived. Did he drive them out or were they on his side from the start?
mayfair
There were several unanswered questions that I believe were not addressed in the book

1. What became of Dolores Umbridge? Did she get her comeuppance?

2. Harry was supposed to acquire a new pet during the book, did anyone recall any mention of that

3. If Mundungus was forbidden from entering HogsHead, then how did Aberforth tolerate his presence long enough to purchase a mirror off him?

4. The veil was a big thing and promised much, but nothing came out of it. Was King's cross kind of behind the veil?

5. Did Teddy Lupin escape his father's werewolf curse?

6. If you can be your own secret keeper as Bill and Arthur were, why did the Potters allow someone other than themselves to be the secret keeper? After all they could have been safe without putting anyone else in danger

7. Goblin and elf magic works differently from human magic. Then why was Griphook unable to escape Malfoy Manor through apparition as Dobby did?

8. George's ear was severed by Sectumsempra, dark curse so couldn't be reattached. But Snape fixed up Malfoy easy enough after Harry cursed him
Triad
The questions about Neville gaining the Sword was answered in the book. It said this -
QUOTE
'In one swift, fluid motion Neville broke free of the Body-Bind Curse upon him; the flaming Hat fell off him and he drew from it's depths something silver, with a glittering, rubied handle'
- so there's the answer! It was right in front of us. I skipped over it because I was thinking more of reading the coming battle then of what Neville was doing. One puzzle down...many more to go.
Nymphadora Lupin
One thing which i was expecting in the Deathly Hallows was a mention of the Unknown Room in the DoM. Yes, we know this was probably death, but what about a definite answer? Personally, i think it is the 'King's Cross' room, but i'd like to hear of other people's opinions of it ... ...

Also, about Neville acquiring the sword of Godric Gryffindor - he was able to pull it out of the hat, even when we assumed Griphook had it. Does this mean that Gryffindor never stole it after all? That the sword was made for him, and he owned that sword all along? so he was able to control, via the hat, who was able to use his sword?
etphonehome
I had the feeling that 'King's Cross' was the Unknown room and that somehow, it was where going through the veil leads you to. Then again, I had always imagined that if Harry went through the veil, or to the place where the veil lead, he would see Sirius and be able to talk to him.

I guess this is one of those things we aren't meant to know.
nitwit oddment blubber tweak
One thing that I began to wonder is what ever happened to Luna's father, was he ok? Did the DE set him free or was he killed? Maybe I've accidentally missed the answer to that when reading it the first time but all I can remember is Luna saying I hope daddy's alright (or something along those lines) and then about the horn thing...but where they ever reunited? :S
Also, what became of Umbridge after the whole adventure in the MoM? I expected more of her than just to 'slump forward' and then just be..well done.
And about the Room of Requirement stuff, I just got confused as how everyone was able to travel through the secret passage to the Hogs Head when last year Draco spent the entire time trying to fix the vanishing cabinate to get DE in and out. Was the explanation just a simple matter of how specific you had to be about what the room should turn into? And was it destroyed in that cursed fire

I think I understand about the Neville and the Sword of Gryffindor, it may have simething to do with what DD explained to harry many books ago...just he was a true Gryffindor, showing bravery etc and because of the intense magic of the hat he was able to produce the sword. It musnt matter that it had be reclaimed by the Goblins so long as a Gryffindor need it(?)
Nymphadora Lupin
More Qs i have thought up:

1. Would all the current Hogwarts teachers still be there 19 years on?

2. Who's the next minister? Kingsley Shackelbolt was announced temporarily, but what about permanent?

3. Did all the death eaters turn good? did they get locked up? which ones were killed? Did some continue Voldemort's legacy and try to keep the wizarding war from ending?

4. What happened to the rest of the Weasleys? they were hardly mentioned in the 19 years later chapter, but did they get more money/better jobs/ a new house?

5. Where did Luna go? Did she and her father ever find a crumple-horned snorcack?

6. Why wasn't Draco Malfoy locked up? Everyone knew he was on Voldemort's side from when he tried to kill Dd, so wouldn't he be sent to Azkaban for life?

7. Talking of Azkaban, did the dementors return? With Voldemort dead, they didn't really have a 'master'

8. Whatever happened to Florian Fortescue? was he definately captured by death eaters, or did he simply flee?

9. Did 12 Grimmauld Place become uninhabited? or did Harry, Ginny and their family live there, or possibly Ron and Hermione?

10. Finally, where did Kreacher go? He appeared to be working at Hogwarts Kitchens, but maybe he was simply warning the elves there? He was yelling that Harry was his master (not in so many words) so at this point he still served Harry. This is another suggestion that Harry was living at Grimmauld Place all those years later ...

* * I don't think Teddy Lupin would've been a werewolf, he was already a metamorphmagus so this shows he has inherited Tonks' main charecteristic! * *
happy-potter
I begun to wonder what happened to Hermione’s parents… and the Dursleys… and what about all the rooms in the DoM? I needed some answers to what was in there.
But one of the things I was very puzzled about was the tail of the three brothers. The second brother got this girl back from the death.
“Yet she was sad and cold, separated from him as by a veil.” It said.
A veil! I really thought there were more about that. And when Harry got his parents, Remus and Sirius back, I thought Sirius would stay because… because he was the only one of them who didn’t die a normal death like Lily, James and Remus, but fell through a VIEL.
And hadn’t JKR said there were more to Petunia than you thought, and hadn’t JKR said too that we would find out what Lily and James’ work was? And what exactly was up with Dudley? I know Harry saved his life, but why didn’t he say thanks last summer? What changed him SO drastic?
How did the Gryffindor sword end back in the hat? Didn’t the goblin take it? And again; was Stan Shunpike really under the imperious curse?
I really wanted to know all that, but there’re still so many unanswered questions.
Nymphadora Lupin
Well technically there was more to Petunia than we though. We all assumed that she despised Lily, when all the time she was jealous. She even wrote to Dd to ask if she could attend. This shows that she did love her sister, but didn't like the idea of her being better than Petunia.
charman_89
Another issue that confused me slightly was that with Tonks and Lupin dead, who brought up Teddy? Was it Tonks' mother Andromeda? And who was Victoire? Im guessing by the fact its a french name it could be Bill and Fleurs but that could have been explained better.
Again I find the whole Veil topic confusing though I do like the idea that when Harry 'died' and was talking to DD that is where he was. Though that doesn't explaind why Luna and Harry could here voices though Ron, Hermione etc couldnt in OoP.
Lauren0891
I guess that the 'more to Petunia than meets the eye' was the fact that she wanted to be accepted in the magical world, and even begged Dumbledore to allow her to Hogwarts. So she doesn't really hate magic, more like she is jealous of the fact that she is not a part of the magical world and couldn't go to Hogwarts.

I really thought that the veil would be explained. If Sirius didn't get killed when he fell through the veil, then what happened to him? Surely since he wasn't killed there would be a way for him to return?

And what was this very important piece of information that you were meant to find out about Lily and James that affects what Harry had to do? And you were supposed to find out more about Harry's grandparents and you didn't. And what did Lily and James do as a living????

Apparently the fact that Harry has Lily's eyes and the eye colour was supposed to play a major importance in this book. Apart from Snape mentioning it, it wasn't really addressed.

In response to the person who performed magic late in life i think it was Ted Tonks. I have the quote here

pg 58 uk edition

QUOTE
I've fixed your ribs, your tooth and your arm.I'm Ted by the way,Ted Tonks-Dora's father.

I thought Ted Tonks was a muggle........
Triad
Same here, his fixing Harry surprised me. I could have sworn he was a muggle. My sister kept complaining about sites that had him as a Wizard but then she turns around and tells me he is a Wizard and so now I'm really confused! Unless he's a Doctor and Dentist. That could explain it......
charman_89
I was under the impression that Ted Tonks was muggle born, not a muggle. Which is why he was on the run later on with Dean Thomas. Yeah im sure he was muggle born but still a wizard
Sir Cadogan
"Meanwhile, the second brother journeyed to his own home, where he lived alone. Here he took out the stone that had the power to recall the dead, and turned it thrice in his hand. To his amazement and his delight, the figure of the girl he had once hoped to marry before her untimely death, appeared at once before him.

"Yet she was sad and cold, seperated from him as by a veil. Though she had returned to the mortal world, she did not truly belong there and suffered."
- Page 332, UK Edition

There you go, the veil is the gate to the World of the Dead. That's why Sirius died, because when you die your soul goes to the World of the Dead, right? Well, his body and soul went to the World of the Dead, which means that he died, even if he was just pushed through the veil.

I hope that I tied up that string for you guys, if it wasn't tied before hand... :S

Regarding Triad's question: I guess it is concerning a note I don't know which character made in a previous book (I guess OotP), that in the old era of LV there were a lot of savage creatures joining him (not with this words, of course). Surely, the spiders living in the Forest had proved enough of their bad behaviour long before this last battle, so no surprise for me that they obeyed him, just as the giants.

And Lauren asked in #20 about the importance of Lily's eyes. While reading, I thought the only thing why it was important that the last thing Snape wanted to see in his life was her eyes (so kinda symbol or anything), and I reckon Harry's eyes were all along something to remember Lily by.

In 'The Shell Cottage' chapter, Lupin asked Harry to be godfather. So I'm guessing Harry did.

As for my questions...

1. What happened to the Dursleys, and what made Dudley change?
2. What did Dudley see when the dementors attacked.
3. Who did magic later on in life?
4. Did the other teachers, (McG., Sprout, Slughorn, etc) remain at Hogwarts?
5. What ever happened to Hedwig? I was so mad when Jo killed her off. Grr.
6. What happened to all the bodies that died at Hogwarts?
7. Was the blasted side of Hogwarts repaired?
8. More explanation on the Veil please?
9. What was Harry's new pet?
10. Who is the new Minister of Magic?

I absolutely loved how we were supposed to find out what the 12 uses of dragons blood was and got nothing....
Unless i missed it, i saw nothing.

has anyone else notice this?
Overtheocean
Ok, so there were a LOT of questions I wished had been answered. Like:

1. What did Dudley see when the dementors came?
2. What happened to the Dursleys? Did harry ever see them again?
3. What happened to all those extra characters? Luna, George, Percy, Seamus, Dean, Lavender, Parvati, Pansy, Draco, Mcgonnogal, kingsley-what did they end up doing?
4. What did harry and hermione and ron and ginny end up doing for their careers? Aurors? SPEW?
5. More details on what happened the night Harry's parents were killed....why wasn't Dumbledore there to pick up harry? why did he send hagrid? what was he doing during that time?
6. what happened to harry's parents' wands?
7. Who was the person who ended up doing magic late in life? i think i totally missed this...but i didn't see it answered in this forum...
8. Was Snape ever vindicated in the rest of the magical world? Did harry just tell people or what?

And SOOOO many more! Oh well, i guess we can hope for that encyclopedia.....

5. What ever happened to Hedwig? I was so mad when Jo killed her off. Grr.

After Hedwig dies, and the side car falls off, Harry aims his wand at the car and says "Confringo!", making the car explode in midair to hurt the Death Eaters in pursuit. Hegwig's body was incinerated.

QUOTE
Who did magic later on in life?

Im assuming Ted Tonks. He was supposed to be a Muggle, but he healed Harry when he arrived at his home.

I would also like to know:

1. A little more history on the Veil
2. How Voldemort got his wand back after Godrics Hollow, 1981.
3. Harry's new pet?
4. More about what Tom Riddle did when he disappeared for a long time, studying the Dark Arts.
5. How Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald, especially when Gellert had the Elder Wand.
6. What did they do with Voldemort's body?
big_al
The veil definately needs more explanation!

What were the other potential titles that JK Rowling eventually rejected in favour of Deathly Hallows?

How did Lily and James end up married? Throughout the books James behaves like a complete prat. I hoped we'd see his good side in DH, but all we see is him bullying Snape on the Hogwarts Express.

owl
Concerning Victoire...
I think it's Bill and Fleur's child; first of all because - as already mentioned - it is a French name and also because the name is the female counterpart for Viktor; so the child could be named after Krum (they liked him, he was even invited to the wedding).
(And she has to be the child of one of the Weasleys because she is a cousin of James's, so she has to be the child of one of Ginny's brothers as Harry has no brothers or sisters.)

QUOTE

And what was this very important piece of information that you were meant to find out that affects what Harry had to do?

Harry was a Horcrux!
This was what affected what he had to do because up until now, he thought all he had to do was kill VM when in fact, he himself had to "die" although, all that happened was that the Horcrux inside him was destroyed therefore he wasnt "dead" as such and given a choice to go back and finish the job.

I reckon Ted was the one who did magic late in life and we found out all there is to know about Petunia. We were made to think that she hated her sister because she was a "freak" when in fact she was just jealous for all these years.
The two that died that weren't meant to die and the one who got "forgiven" I think were Fred and Goyle and the forgiven one was Lucius. He was on the verge of being killed the whole way through the book and then it turns out he survived.

Did I miss the part where it was explained whos voice was in the Howler that she got sent in OoTP and what it all meant?
Potters Phoenix
It was a great book, but so much more needs to have been answered:

1. Why were the green eyes so important?
2. What did Lily and James do as a career and how did they defy LV 3 times?
3. What happened to Harrys grandparents?
4. What happened to the Weasleys - not much was said about them in the 19 years later?
5. If Harry was able to mend his phoenix wand with the Elder wand, then why couldn't DD have used the wand to get rid of the curse that eventually killed him?
6. What did Dudley Dursley relive when the dementors attacked?
7. If Pertunia knew Snape as a child, why did she never tell this to Harry? What about the tree breaking - was this the 'magic late in life' because most kids show magical sign by the time they are 7 or 8, not at 11. . .
8. Where was Harry after he 'died' - the kings cross chapter?
9. How was Ron able to Harry and Dobby in the Malfoy dungeon about Shell Cottage if he was not secret keeper?
10. Why was the veil so important?
11. 12 uses of dragon blood?
12. What is worse than death in DD's eyes - is it loss?
13. Mirror of Erised - I thought it would have more of a role?
14. What happened to all the other characters?
15. Snape's love for Lily and how James ended up married to Lily.
16. Whats left of the room of requirement?
17. Could Harry's cloak be indestructable - would it be able to resist the AK killing curse?

I'm sure there are many more.

I would of liked to of known who killed Tonks and Lupin
and i would of liked to known what the future held for Luna

Also who was the person who was supposed to die but lived
and who were the extra two that died, that were originally going to live?

I hope JK will answer these soon!

Also who was the person who did Magic late in life, did i miss it?

The book was amazing though!
owl
One thing I would like to say about Sirius and the veil: Some people sound as though he simply vanished behind the veil, but he was killed before with the AK-curse - there was described a flash of green light out of Bellatrix's wand.

What I would like to know: Why did Harry get the Snitch with the Stone inside? "Simply" for encouraging him?

Are Harry's grandparents still alive? Why were they never interested in seeing him?

What would have happened if Voldemort had got out of the diary in the second book?

Where did the fortune of Harry's parents come from? Inherited?

What happens with persons that have been brought back to life (more or less) with the Resurrection Stone? Do they vanish with the person who "revived" them when this person dies? And how real are they actually (e.g. when they are only visible for the person who revived them)?

How got people the Dementors and the giants “under control” again? And do they still accept Dementors as guards of Azkaban after what has happened?

Where did people get a new Sorting Hat from? The original one was burnt down, wasn’t it?

So far my questions.
Voyager
A few questions still buzzing in my mind are:

Whose side was Stan really on?

What happened to the Dursely's after they left Private Drive?

Who was Draco married to at the end?

What happened to Luna when she grew up?

and the biggest question for me is, who else died in the battle? Harry couldn't bare to look down at all the other bodies lying in the Great Hall, but I would be really interested to know who out of the other students didn't make it?
SnowyOwl22
I thought the book was awesome. It was my favorite one yet, but there was unanswered questions.
Is Harry still a Parseltongue? Did it leave Harry with the part of Voldemort soul that was destroyed?
I think some of our questions were answered, but we haven't realized it yet. Maybe they weren't answered the way we wanted them to be.
carpysports14
These are my questions. If you have answers, please either send me a message, or just reply to this asap.

What was behind the veil?
What did Harry's parents do for a living?
What did Harry do for a living?
What exactly was the King's Cross thing?
What was the significance that Harry had Lily's eyes?
Who managed to do magic?

I have more,but I can't remember right now.

I would guess that that's because the Dursely's knew Harry was a wizard, but in the case of Lily and Hermione, their parents would have known nothing of the wizarding world.

I think it has to do with Snape's reason for protecting him. I think that could have been more clearly explained, but I think that's the basic answer.

I have so many questions, I am sure some of them are repetitive but here we go

1) What happened to Voldemort's body?

2) What about Snape's body, and his place of history? Did he finally receive his Order of Merlin that was given, then taken away in Prisoner of Azkaban?

3) Where did Harry end up living? What about Ron and Hermione? Did they live in #12 Grimmauld Place?

4) How did these relationships develop? Did Neville get married?

5) What happened with Luna later in life?

6) Did McGonagall ever become Headmistress? Can we talk to DD in any of his pictures?

7) Where did Harry end up working?

8) What happened to the rest of the Weasley's? Did Percy ever become minster of magic? Did George carry on the joke shop without Fred?

9) How did DD beat Grindywald to get the Elder Wand? I thought it was undefeatable?

10) Does Harry pass on his cloak?

And you know the one that still bugs me the most? I thought Harry was supposed to get a huge boost in power in the last book - and it never seems he did. I find it weird that Harry defeated LV with was is described in the book as at best - reasonably capable by his professors through DD recount. Harry was behind just about everyone in this book in terms of power, all of the OotP, LV, DD, Snape - was there anyone besides Ron that he was actually a better wizard then?

This is getting out of hand, the more I write the more questions I have. I wil hold off on more for now

I have many unanswered questions too, who is the unexpected magician? It is not Petunia, because in the "Rumors" section of JKR's site she states that Petunia is not a witch, she has never performed magic and she never will. So who was it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, what about Sirius and the veil? They never explained what happened there. Why could Luna and Harry hear them but the others couldn't. Was it like the thestrals? Could you only hear them if you had seen someone die?

What happened to Griphook? We saw him in the Lestranges Vault, and then, all of the sudden he is gone and never mentioned again.

What happened to Mad-Eye's body? Harry found his eye at the Ministry, so I guess that means that the Ministry has his body????????????

What happened to Lucius? He was shown in the area where Voldemort thought he killed Harry. But then he was never mentioned again.

Plus, I apologize if this is off topic but, before Malfoy tried to kill Dumbledore in Book 6. His wand was blasted away from him. So how was his wand magically returned to his tomb, so that Voldemort could get it.

Plus, did Mrs. Weasley kill Bellatrix??? If so she would have had to cast Avada Kedavra on her, which is illegal. So what did she do to her?????

I have more, but I'll post them later.

Jeez, I've read through this entire thread...all my unanswered questions are the same as everyone else's...I just hope JK Rowling answers them, and I think that some can be answered by reading the book again... It's like seeing a movie for the second time; you see so much more and understand a lot that you didn't from seeing it the first time. Hmm...I think i just might go read it again...or maybe in a few days or so... it was a fantastic book, my favorite, even if there were many unanswered questions. : ]

Personally, I've never had any additional questions about the Veil. The Veil between life and death, I believe, is a long-existing idea, and I think that we were simply supposed to understand that that was what it was. Death. I think the mention of it in DH is probably meant to confirm this for those who still had questions after OotP. You can't come back across the Veil. Thus, even when using the stone to bring someone back, they can't really come back. The Veil can only be crossed one way. But to explain it any further, I think would be going a bit far. There's a reason that Death (the Veil) is one of the things studied in the DoM. In the DoM, they study life's greatest mysteries: Time, Thought, Life, Love (which I believe we are also to simply take the suggestion that Love is what's behind the locked room; it has to be contained where it is being studied because it is the most powerful force in existence, the fact which of course Voldemort could never understand), the Universe, ect.

Also, I believe the DH's strong implication if not direct statement was that "King's Cross" was in Harry's head. It was his mind. It produced a version of King's Cross not unlike how a dream will often produce randomly recognizable (if a little altered) settings, and provided clothes when he imagined them, and so on. It was just inside Harry's mind, which Dumbledore confirms, though that is not to say that it wasn't real, in its own way.

I don't think I really have any questions that come to mind of my own... but that may just be because I don't mind letting my imagination run wild with things we're not told. Like how I like to think that Luna, given enough time, would have turned out to be right about a lot more than we could ever imagine. I like to think that the horn, as she predicted, did in fact mend itself... but that's just me.

OH! And the reason Dudley had a change in heart was told in the books: he had a change in heart because Harry saved his life in OotP. Remember: Harry didn't really interact with Dudley (or with the Dursleys much at all) in between the Dementor attack in OotP and DH. Harry spent his time in his room brooding over first Sirius's death and then Dumbledore's, and the closest amount of interaction that they had in HBP, Dudley along with Vernon and Petunia, were all too intimidated by DD's presence for Dudley to be able to exemplify the fact that he had stopped being horrible to Harry.

@ Felix2090: I think I can answer your last question: In a war there are always special regulations, e.g. that murder is allowed (that's why it is a war), so Mrs. Weasley was allowed to kill without punishment. (Imagine, there are also countries with death penalty though murder is a crime; also very contradicturous.)

Though I am not sure of this, I have guesses as to who those were that JK meant to keep alive and ended up killing, and who she decided to give a reprieve. I believe that she had always intended Hagrid to die from a magical creature, (oh, the irony!) so that he would have died when the acromantulas took him, but just changed her mind. I also believe she wanted to keep Lupin and Tonks alive but had the idea of making Harry the godfather of their child and decided to kill them off. I might be totally wrong, but I think those are the characters.

As for the veil, I think that is answered in this book, but indirectly. As of the 5th book, only Harry and Luna had lost loved ones and were the only ones that could hear voices behind the veil. Since the ring could bring back loved ones that had died, I have a feeling that was a way of telling us why Harry was so affected by the veil. Also, it seems that the veil is sort of a way into the afterlife, which he got to witness in the chapter "King's Cross." Again, this is just me guessing the answers to these questions even though I don't have any proof at all. I really hope that Jo will answer these questions someday. dry.gif

My main question was exactly what did Dudley see with the dementors? Something made me think that he saw what it was like to be Harry, but the dementor theory doesn't work that way at least on wizards... perhaps they effect muggles differently.

As for who was the one who got the reprieve... DEFINITELY Hagrid!!!!! He was supposed to die in the beginning with the fall of Sirius's motorcycle! There was HUGE forshadowing of that in HBP... lots of cannon proof (The destruction of the piano in Slughorn's house = the destruction of the keeper of the keys, the smashing of the giant Gryffindor hourglass causing the fall of all the rubies in it = the fall of the Giant Gryffindor Rubeus, and MUCH more!!!!) My guess was that Lupin and Tonks were the poor ones who took his place, especially since we know so little about their deaths!

Those questioning little Teddy... she answered that by saying that he was a metamorphogus like his mother... he took after her and not Lupin. Also, I think that the logical assumption was that he was raised by his grandmother (Tonks's mother) because 19 years later, Harry said something about having him come to live with them to one of the kids. Andromeda might have died by then.

Ted was DEFINITELY a Muggle-born! He was not the one to use magic at a later age... so who was???
QUOTE( OotP US paperback ed. p. 113 - Sirius examining the Black Family Tree Tapestry)
"Andromeda's sisters are still here because they made lovely, respectable pure-blood marriages, but Andromeda married Muggle-born Ted Tonks, so ___" Sirius maimed blasting the tapestry with a wand and laughed sourly.

Although I really think that the Dursley chapter was lacking, we did get the answer to Petunia's secret (who was DEFINITELY not a witch at any time according to JKR's website) in Snape's memories. She hated magic because it took Lily away from her, not because of the branch! She begged DD to let her come to Hogwarts, because she didn't want to be away from Lily. They were close, and magic took her away, both temporarily as a child, and then permanently as an adult.

I really would have liked a different ending... the Hogwart's Express was an interesting idea, if more people had been included in it... it was a bit confunded, and looked like she was so thrilled to be done that she made it a quicky... I know she had it written for a while, but it was not her best work. BTW, what ever happened to "Scar" being the last word!! It would have been soooooooo much better than "All was well." Maybe a 20th reunion of the Order would have told us more... with the DA members invited as well.

I would have liked to know what Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny did for a living, especially Harry (my guess is that once Shackelbolt took over the MOM, Harry might be willing to work there as an Auror) Would Ron have taken Fred's place and helped George with the Joke shops? What about Percy, he quit his job at the ministry? I'd suppose Luna , went on to take over the Quibbler for her father, and Hermione fought for Elf rights.

Someone asked why Draco was not in Azkaban... I think that it was that he was coerced into being a DE, he did not seek it himself, and was only doing their bidding to save himself and his parents. He was a slimey little twit, but a reluctant DE. Truthfully, Narcissa was the only Slytherin who helped at all, and that was only to get back to Draco, but without her, it couldn't have ended as it did.

What I was REALLY SURPRISED at, was that the school continued sorting after all of this!!! DID THEY LEARN NOTHING?????? Harry said something at the end about it not mattering which house you were sorted into, but you KNOW that it did matter to most people, both inside and outside of the school!

I liked the thought that DD and Harry were in the locked room of the DOM at the end, but see no proof of that. I liked the equation of that to King's Cross, as it was the place to make a decision of where to go from here.

But even though the veil was explained a little better, I really want to know WHY Sirius, who went through it alive and whole (unlike everyone else who died before going through and were only souls) could not have been retrieved.

I think I know as much as I want to now about Aberforth. It explains why the brothers were not very close but only cordial enough to work together against LV. I liked him, though... he was a kind soul!
