i havent posted on here for a few months, but now that i've read the final book (2 times i might add) i found time to post...
all in all i thought that it was a really good book.
i was so suddenly i dont know, shocked? i guees when hedwig died. i was sad all of a sudden and then harry and hagrid fell and i was thinking to myself "no NO Hagrid isnt going to be dead!" and then of course he wasnt, but for that spilt second before i continued reading, i thought that if there was a death so early on in the book and i was so sad just becasue of hedwig, i was going to be distraught be the time the last chapter tolled around. i thought about putting the book down right then and there, but then i realized how stupid i would be to give up reading the fianl book of my obsession (lol)
i never thought that dobby would die and i was really sad when harry was digging his grave, but i didnt cry just yet.
when i came to the part when harry finally realized that he was going to have to sacrifice himself i was just sobbing... because i thought that harry potter was going to die and becasue i realized how close i was to the end of the guessing, the wonderful secrets to the plot that we didnt know yet. my eyes were so blurred with tears that i almost couldnt continue, but i did and when i got past that part i was so glad that i did.
i thought that the 19 years later part was really cheesy. we all knew then that harry was going to get married with ginny and ron with hermione. if anything my dad and i were kinda hoping that dudley would show up at king's cross with his kid going to hogwarts and maybe somebody would at least name their child after poor fred. i thought that it was a bit sad, well totally and completely awful, when both of poor teddy lupins parents were killed. this parallels harry's parents being killed i guess, but i mean, come on JK! that is really sad to leave him as an orphan. but oh well i guess.
I loved seeing snape's memories and i was really glad to know that my theory was right about snape loving lily. i was sad too when he died that way though. i kinda knew all along that he was good, but i dont know, i thought that if he died it would be a true sacrifice for harry.
anyway i will lways LOVE harry potter and i will never stop reading this beloved and magnificent series of books! thank you J.K. Rowling, you have really made part of my life magical.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was in my opinion the finest literary work of them all. Universal themes of the human experience reverberate through this book perhaps more than others. I was worried about how the ending would turn out. But JKR ending was excellent. Harry isn't as skilled of a wizard as Voldemort. He beat him with "the power the Dark Lord knows not." The Deathly Hallows ledgend plot line was excellent. I was really worried that Book 7 would be a Harry Potter Encyclopedia-answering all the inane questions of those that are more in love with the world than the literature. Book 7 was it's own story; it wasn't a Harry Potter Answer Book. That's why it was good. So I hope you all that didn't find that HPDH was what you wanted will re-read it as its own story and what for the Encyclopedia to get all your answers.

well... much to say.
the book succeeded in keepin my attention the whole time. from the moment i got till five hours later i finished it... it was over all good. some things i didnt like however, was the decline in the maturity of Harry and his stalemate "magic/wand knowledge". Also i think Hermione played too much of a bigger role. Also, i belive the books where written to age with the first generation of kids in HPSS. so its reasonalbe the books got more...adult like. but why the randmom moments in HPDH where it seems childish? (epiologue, final battle...) ever since the critism begain on Harry ive always wanted him to come out on top...i was really lookin forward to his shiny moment after killing LV. I LOVED how JKR played it out to where everyone thought Harry died and Neville stepped up. i would have hoped tho that when Harry revealed himself instead of following LV under a cloak ...fight his way to him and then kill him. The whole following under the cloak really made me think of him as a coward.
one thing that really got and had me smiling when i was proved wrong is that when Harry told Neville what to do if he died and then Harry died. i unfortuantley had to take a visit to nature at that moment and while thinking i had a fright that Harry really was dead and Neville really is the chosen one and kills LV. lol.
overall this was an excellent book where the post LV death/glorify Harry could have been told better but still ...excellent book.

I've always sort of liked Snape, even when i thought he was evil. But now, he is positively my favorite character. To think that he wasn't evil all this time, that he was merely heartbroken, breaks my heart as well. I don't know how i could have missed this, becuase now i realize with all his talk of harry's father's arrogance, he never said a thing about his mother. I think it was Snape more than anything that made this book for me.
Another scene that was worthy of a hanky... when Harry was supossedly walking to his death, and he was followed by his parents, Sirius, and Lupin. Oh my goodness. That is probably my favorite scene in any of the books.
I was ridiculously emotional the day after i finished. I just wanted to be alone so i could cry. Nothing, no book or movie, has ever done that for me before.
But all these emotions aside, there are some things I have to be nit-picky about. Firstly, the Epilogue. Way cheesey. And I'm dying to know what happened to dozens of other characters (notably george weasly, and how he carried on after fred's death). And secondly, it moved along at a good pace until the end, and everything just sort of sped up and finished and i was kinda bummed.
Well, it's not my favorite one, but it definately made the cut for me. I'm just so sad they're over

all the action from start: loved it
snape being good in the end: a bit surprising to me
funniest moment: mrs.weasley goin after bellatrix, its justs funny to imagine mrs. weasley goin after someone like that after they way she is portrayed in the rest of series
harry's parents jobs: i thought they said in another book they were aurors, like the longbottoms?
real harry's family question: where are james' parents? the only time they are mentioned in whole series was by sirius when he said after he ran from home he crashed with potters
epilogue: stupid-i agree 100% with putting one in, but not like that....it should have been longer and way more in depth. dumb names albus severus? i can see naming kids james and lily but come on and why would teddy lupin who is 19 and out of school spend so much time at potters when i would imagine he has own life and grandma's
fast ending: simple enough, jkr shoulda made it a little longer between defeat of lv and end, i was actually thinking with how far i was getting that lv was going to die alot earlier, i was half expecting a chapter after lv's death and end then chapter length deep epilogue, although the part with all the headmasters/headmisstress's was nice
harry coming back: i think she threw together an answer about harry not being able to die while lv lives because of lv using harrys blood to comback, so harry will come back if lv kills him but lv wont come back? not a whole lot of logic
bloodshed and action: i was expecting the battle to be about that amount of bloodshed, although with lupin and tonks dying with no explination of how and right after having kid is dumb
best part: id say all of the last chapter until the end was rushed, neville standing up to lv and killing nagini in chaos was good, but harry and lv battle was even better
and malfoys: are they supposed to appear to have change of heart in end or what?

I have very mixed feelings about the book. Overall, I thought it was amazing! The epilogue however, I am completely dissappointed with. I feel too much information was left out, what is harry now doing? Is he retired at the ripe age of 38?
One thing that I am really feeling odd about is Mad Eye. "Mad-Eye tried to stop him, but he Disapparated. Voldemort's curse hit Mad-Eye full in the face, he fell backwards off his broom and there was nothing we could do, nothing, we had half a dozen of them on our own tail-" (pg.70) In here, there is no mention of what curse hit Mad-Eye. This didn't strike me as odd at first though. But then no one could find his body. So you start to think that he may still be alive. But then, Harry finds Mad-Eye's eye in Umbridge's door, which with the power of the nameless curse could have merely fallen out of Mad-Eye's socket, we know it can come out without too much trouble. What caught my eye however and seeds my wonder is on page 424 as the heroes are venturing into Gringotts. "One man had a bloody bandage over his eye." There is no other description of the man, or any specifics of any of the other wizards begging for gold. I believe this is Mad-Eye, who had been taken into the ministry and stripped of his wand after he had fallen from his broom. That is how his eye is in Umbridge's door. This bandaged man then approached Hermione, as Bellatrix at this point in time, and says she knows about his "kids" and what has "he" done with them. Now, as far as we know, Moody has no kids, but had Moody lost his mind like Lockheart did in CoS, he may be thinking of the 7 Harry's who departed Privet Drive. I feel as if JKR left this matter open, and it just does not sit well with me.
That is my biggest peeve with the book, other then the ending, which was WAY too cliche. It felt like she wrote that in ten minutes as her publisher was tapping his foot on the ground telling her she needs to have it written in five minutes so taht they can send it off to be printed!
Thanks for listening,

so much to say about a book like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
well first off... i think the "Nineteen years later" was flat out TERRIBLE. it was the worst writing of JKR that i have ever seen. i'm not talking about the names of harry's kid, or anything like that. but the fact is that this was one of the worst endings she could have come up with. i believe she was selfish and wanted to make sure no one could TRULY right fan fic about this again. not only did she leave out alot of key facts about what happens to characters, mainly luna (wtf happened to her?) but she just got sloppy. i believe she should have done something a few weeks after the battle at hogwarts, and left out the epilogue all together. i would have preferred not to read the epilogue and let my mind think of what happens. she totally tore apart any sentimental value harry and ginny could have had (and frankly, some of the stuff in Half Blood Prince between those two were amazing) and the Ron and Hermione thing was to abrupt, and very detached.
the overall book was fantastic. myself, i do not consider to be a great writer, but a good story teller. and this book she combined both fantastically. it was one of the best books i've read (until the epilogue).
the deaths, wrong choice of main characters to kill. i, cold heartedly, enjoyed the abrupt deaths. there was no need to write 3 pages about one person dying. i believe tho, that she should have killed Hermione or Ron. fred, lupin and tonks was well written, but i believe realistically both lupin AND tonks would not have died. mad eye died as a hero should, as did dobby. so imo, these are the people who should have died,
Mad-Eye
Fred
Lupin or Tonks
Hermione
Dobby
Hagrid
Luna
and a few other, minor yet major characters.
i think these people should have died to show how much of a cost this fight cost, and i think that especially hagrid and hermione would have proven this point. it would have been a victory, but at a high price.
the dumbledore thing was fantastic. i loved seeing how dumbledore used harry, and i found it very realistic.
snapes death was very touching, and very, very well written.
the fight at the end i believe was a little dumb, how everything in the forest starts to fight, and the house elves, and everyoens family just jumps in. sorry but no.
Neville was fantastic! by far the greatest character in the book, he really proved himself.
i really liked it how she started showing harry's dark side. i absolutely loved it when he said "Crusio!" it was great. i liked it how she started using harry as not just a goody boy, but he used 2 of the unforgivable curses. /clap
overall, very touching, moving book. the epilogue was atrocious, waiste of emotional build up, but a good book all around.
(the ron and hermione kiss seen was AMAZING! which would have been all the more emotional if hermione had died, to show even the great ones slip up)
very well written, and i' have to say that out of nearly 800 pages, she only truly messed up on say 10 of them.
i would give this book a 99.3%
good job JKR

I did really enjoy the DH but there were little things that annoyed me about it. Like the way they kept being saved all the time, (particularly didnt like the way they espaced from Gringotts). Also the way Ron and Hermione got into the Chamber of Secrets was stuppid! Ron couldnt have remembered how to say something in pastletougne from when harry had!
Although a lot of the Questions were answered in this book, i still seem to have some about his parents, such as: what were their occupations? and what was so amazing about Lily's eyes, was there anything apart from what they looked like? (i know they are only small things, but i really wanted to find them out).
I didnt really like the battle, went on for ages, and got a bit Lord of the Rings's ish, which all the centaurs and house elfs getting involved.
But the worst part of the book had to be the epiloge, it made ruined the book for me completely. It only included what happened to Harry, Ron, Ginny and Hermione! i wanted to find out what happened after the death of Voldemort! I think JKR should have done 5yrs later or something, and put more detail about the other characters.

The deal behind Harry's eyes was that they were identical to Lily's and Snape loved Lily so when he looked into Harry's eyes he saw Lily. That was the only real meaning behind that I suppose.
I actually agree with you about the epiloge. I think it was a bit cheesey and it left so much unsaid. It didn't go into how the world had changed since Voldemort had gone, who died who servived, who was throw in Azkaban. I would have prefered her to have just done another chapter about the aftermath of Voldemort's death, and how peace was restored that would have been a much better ending.
The best chapters had to be at the end of the book! There were a couple at the beginning and middle which were cool too.
My Favourite Chapters:
-The Dursley's Departure
-The Wedding
- A Place To Hide
-Malfoy Manor
-The Sacking of Severus Snape
-The Elder Wand
-The Battle At Hogwarts
-The Prince's Tale
-The Flaw In The Plan
AMAZING! I loved the way Harry stood up to Voldemort in the end. It showed how much he had matured over the series!
Snape's death was the most heart wrenching for me closely followed by Dobby's and Lupins/Tonks death. The way JK Rowling marked the moment when Nagini attacked Severus and it was strange to see such a strong character so vulnrable.

He was truly the greatest character!

DH was the best of all the books in the Harry Potter series. Although the deaths were to satisfy JK's need for tragedy, I really felt very, very, very upset to know some my fav characters dying, like, Mad-Eye, Fred, Lupin, Tonks, Hedwig and Dobby. Though I didn't like Snape, I couldn't help feeling sad for his death as well. I was quite surprised to find that his patronus was a Silver Doe owing to the fact that his old love was Harry's mother, Lily. The thing which scared me the most in this book was the Godric's Hollow incident where Bathilda Bagshot turns into Nagini. Whew! I thought for a moment that both Harry and Hermione were goners. Thank god! They escaped Voldemort by just a second. Another incident which scared me was the robbing of Gringotts Bank. I don't know why they had to trust that nutter Griphook. He betrayed them ultimately. But thanks to Harry's common sense, that they climbed the dragon and escaped.
I agree with XxCeliaxX with the fact that it was stupid in the way Ron and Hermione entered the CoS. I mean, I can't believe how Ron could've imitated Harry's parseltongue to open it. I also agree about another fact that the epilogue was a little out of time! I too wanted to know what happened immediately after the death of Voldemort.
I felt, the best part of the book was the battle between Harry and Voldemort. Harry, at last understood everything he needed to know about his life, his connection with Lord Voldemort etc. and it was a little surprising when Harry explained it to the Dark Lord.

I LOVED IT
It was the best book BY FAR. Although im sad about the deaths i know they had to happen. Although im realy dissapointed BOTH Tonks AND Lupin died, Leaving their baby parentless i thought that could have been avoided but it really gets across what losses the good side had to suffer in order to win the war. Also im gutted that fred died but no where near as much as i hate the fact that Dobby died-He was one of my favourite charecters!!! But at least she gave him a good death (if such a death exsists) by making him rescue harry ron hermione luna olivander ect... And therefor being a CRUCIAL factor in defeating voldemort.
I am thrilled that she kept all of the trio alive and i was shocked that they all survived (thrilled at the same time though:D).I must admit the bit where harry died, but didnt die really, confused me a little bit as to where he went and how come he really didnt die but im reading again slowly and im sure i will understand this time. But in my oppinion there was one tiny fault with this book and that is the final chapter. I didnt think JK elaborated on what happend to the charecters enough. Although this has been solved by JK's genius by announcing shes going to release an encyclepedia of harry potter explaining the future-and past- of the charectors. I personally cant wait, although im going to have to as she has said she is going to have a break first, but rest asured i will be one of the first in that que (SP) to buy it

I thought it was a great read and I was gripped throughout. (however I must confess it was probably my love of the characters that kept me hooked the entire way through)
I really wish I hadn't read the last chapter "ninteen years later"... it just ruined it for me and left me with new questions after just having all of them answered.
I think that the person who "shows magical tendencies late in life" must have been Dumbledore's brother ( I saw this question higher up and I'm not sure if it has been answered yet, but I thought I'd just throw in my idea
but yes, I really liked the way Harry actually overpowered Voldemort in the end- he didn't just have a lucky escape.
However I was slightly disappointed that he chose to use Expelliarmus, but then I suppose it was fitting.
The walk in the forest on the way to his 'death' was amazing. I don't think a movie or a book or anything has ever affected me like that scene.
Anyway, now I've had my say I think I'll go back and read the rest of them all over again-can't get enough of them

What did you think?LOVED IT, this has to best written, loved everything about, except for prehaps the end chapter (19 years later) it was good i exected better. But to be honest i didn't expect that chapter at all it wasn't until i got to it that i saw it. Doh!

I'd say the first couple of chapters 1-5 and the last 8-9 chapters were the best. Don't get me wrong i loved the middle but the battle between everyone and then the final one between just Harry and Voldmort was fantastic.
Were there parts that made you jump?I don't think so i didn't find it as scary as prehaps one or two other books, number 4 and 5 were slightly more scary for me
Were there parts that made you laugh out loud and have the people sitting near you look at you strangely?Again no i smiled at some points but never made me laugh out loud or anything
Did you cry at any point?I felt like crying at some points espically when Hedwig died poor owl, Fred i found hard, love the twins again their fantastic and was quite said about dobby, lupin and Tonks dieing.

I was a little watery when he used the stone to bring back Lilly, James, Sirus and Lupin, that was quite emotional the walk through the forest.
Were there any parts that made you really angry or annoyed? What annoyed you? Was is the actual scene and you were meant to be annoyed, or was it because something in the book happened that you really didn't think should be there?Overall, no i wasn't angry, i was a little over Fred's death but that's about it
Does this conclude the series for you? Are you happy with the ending? If you mean the whole book including 19 years later chapter, i wasn't happy with it, i felt it spoiled it. And felt certain that she would not make another book classed as the 8th as i'd feel she told us the ending before the beginning. It was nice to know what Harry and Ginny called the children that was sweet. There a few questions, which have been pointed out on other threads that i felt need to be answered and hopefully in this next one they will be.

What did you think? I think the plot was amazing but I did get a sense that the publishers maybe rushed JK Rowling a bit. There was action in all the right places and everything was so unexpected...I would like to say the book was a total mystery to me but unfortunately my friend told me so much before I had read it.

Really annoyed me because I believed that Snape was innocent but if I hadn't of known that I was right before reading "The Prince's Tale" I would have been totally thrown! Not the best book in the series...thats Half Blood Prince but it is the second best!
Were there parts that made you jump? Not really...there were many shocks like when Ron decided to up and leave Harry and Hermione and when Griphock stole the sword, and the vast amount of deaths.
Were there parts that made you laugh out loud and have the people sitting near you look at you strangely? There were so many like on Potterwatch when Lee Jordan said "Even though You-Know-Who is out of the country he can move as fast as Snape when approached with shampoo!"
So many funny comments from the twins, Ron especially about various saggy parts of Meriln and as usual Hermiones impatience with Harry/Ron's lack of logical reasoning. e.g when she was reading the Tale of The Three Brothers.
Hermione: Then Death spoke to them
Harry: Sorry ...death spoke to them?
Hermione: IT'S A FAIRY TALE HARRY!
Harry:Right....sorry..go on..
Did you cry at any point?Yes the deaths of Dobby,Remus,Tonks and Fred but I cried most at the death of Snape and even more when I read "The Princes Tale" those two chapters were so heart breaking for me. I did have tears in my eyes for Hedwig and Mad eye but I predicted that Hedwig would die and it never really sank in for me that Mad-Eye was gone, he was so careful and telling everyone else how to keep safe and the irony of his death just made it more shocking than sad.
Were there any parts that made you really angry or annoyed? What annoyed you? Was is the actual scene and you were meant to be annoyed, or was it because something in the book happened that you really didn't think should be there?I think everything was written in the book to have a sort of domino effect so I don't really disagree with anything in the book. I really was annoyed with how Snape died but I was annoyed at Voldemort's ignorence and hunger for power. He killed an innocent man who was a slave to his own broken heart. But then again thats a daily occurance for Voldemort! If Voldemort didn't kill Snape then Harry wouldn't have listened to Snape if he ever got the chance to tell him that he was a horcrux. I was also annoyed at Fred, Lupin and Dobby's deaths in particular!
Does this conclude the series for you? Are you happy with the ending?Well yes and no. I wanted to know what happened to everyone else after the aftermath of Voldemorts death and not about just the Trio and Malfoy. The epiloge was disappointing. But the main questions were answered for me, I will always however wonder what Dudley saw when attacked with by the dementor and what the big deal was about the elusive Veil!

Altogether I really loved it! I have to admit that some of the deaths were completely unecessary, but I guess in war all deaths are. Most people are saying that they hated the epilogue. I somewhat disagree. I do feel like it was cheesy, and the names were a little over the top, but I wanted Harry to finally have that perfect little life that he deserved after going through so much suffering. I'm glad they were married, but I really wanted to know what they were doing for jobs. Was Harry an auror? Did they work in the Ministry? What were the other Weasley's doing?
My favorite scene was when he walked into the forest prepared to die with his family by his side. I loved how open he was about being scared, but I still wasn't convinced that he was really going to die (I guess I didn't want to let it be true).
I also think Ron had some great one-liners this book. He was definitely the comedic relief. And it was great that Percy finally got some sense knocked into him and came to help--but I really think Fred's death was pointless.
In the end, I loved the book and I feel a huge part of my life is over. Somehow I'll have to find another world to get lost in.

What did you think?I was really pleased with HP&DH. It was really well written and gave the conclusion that many people were waiting for. I thought that parts in the middle (when they were waiting and trying to find horcruxes) got a little dull, but the over-all book was WONDERFUL. The epilogue, to me, was a little too short and vague. I can't wait to read the encyclopedia (is it true that she is writing one?)
Were there parts that made you jump? When Voldemort showed up right away when Harry was leaving Privet Drive. That shocked me! I thought that Hagrid was going to die.
Were there parts that made you laugh out loud and have the people sitting near you look at you strangely?I laughed when Kreacher was hitting Mundungus with the pan. I love how he became so nice and sweet to Harry!
Did you cry at any point?I cried when Dobby died. Poor little house-elf, just trying to help Harry.
Were there any parts that made you really angry or annoyed? What annoyed you? Was is the actual scene and you were meant to be annoyed, or was it because something in the book happened that you really didn't think should be there?I was angry when Fred died. It seemed like he was too young to be killed off and I thought since George lost his ear, the twins were safe. Also, I was really mad when I read that Lupin and Tonks were dead. I was just like, "Uh, what?" because she never explained how or why they died. It seemed to me like it was just tossed in, leaving little Teddy just like Harry (both parents killed and a godfather who could possibly die at any time w/ LV still around). I wish they weren't both killed off.
Does this conclude the series for you? Are you happy with the ending?I was somewhat happy with the ending. Like I said above, I hope that in the encyclopedia (if it does come out) that she goes into more detail about everyone else. I feel like she just skimmed the surface of their lives. I want more details!!!

I don't think that JKR covered enough in the epilogue. I think that the book in itself was pretty good, except that I think that too many people died in the outcome though. People like Tonks, Lupin, Dobby, and Hedwig were unnecessary deaths.

I thought that JK did an amazing job on this book, most deffinitly the best yet. The plot had so many twists and turns it made me glue to the book and read it until it was finished (though I do that with all the Harry Potter books

) It deffinitly answered most of my questions about that characters and plot and such, it was a really enjoyable read.
I admit I was EXTREMELY scared when Harry found out he was a horcrux and thought he had to die, I was almost going into hysterics, but then he survived and I could breathe again, haha.
Also, in my opinion the scariest part of the book was when Harry and Hermione went to Godric's Hallow and Bathilda turned out to be Nagini, that was so creepy! How she wouldn't talk , only when she was alone with Harry so he wouldn't know that it was really Nagini speaking parseltounge! No wonder her house smelled so bad, that women was dead for at least a month !
Well, any part with Ron in it makes me laugh haha , especially when Hermione kisses him (OMG THEIR FINALLY TOGETHER !

) and Harry goes "OI! There's a war going on here!" and when George makes his lame joke about his "holey ear" haha and also Percy made his first joke in years and I laughed, but then I cried because FRED DIED ! Why did JK have to kill Fred ?! Imagine what George would be going through, he dosn't have a twin anymore ! That's horrible ! I also was so sad about Dobby dieing, that was a blow.

I'm happy with the ending of the book itself, it's the epilouge that really left me in the dark. I was hoping to learn so much more than what we did ! ( Ron + Hermione finally together = BEST THING OF LIFE ! and Harry & Ginny ! also glad that Neville's teaching Herbology!) but their was an interveiw with JK saying some more stuff that she couldnt include in the epilouge, like Harry and Ron are both Aruors ! I was happy about that, I mean after what they faced what else would they be ?!
Overall the book was fantastic !

I got the book on Monday and I finished it yesterday afternoon. DH is probably one of my favorite books in the series after Goblet of Fire. I loved the part where Percy rejoined the family and the "Hello Minister! Did I mention I'm resigning?" part. He's such a pompous guy usually that this was probably only the second time in the whole series that he made an actual joke. Like other people, I was so scared when i found that Harry had to die and leave behind all those people he cared for, and I was so, happy or sad or something, when Harry's parents, Lupin and Sirius appeared and accompanied him through the woods to his death, it made me feel so much for Harry. I was so sad when Hedwig, Lupin/Tonks, Fred, and Dobby died. I cried so much when Snape died, he was one of the good guys after all and he died looking at the eyes of the person he had loved all his life.... But after a bit I was rereading it and I kind of got numbed to it, i didn't feel the same thing even though i wanted to. It was the same with Dumbledore's and Sirius's deaths, after a while I skimmed through it without feeling anything much, which kind of freaked me out because I wanted to cry and gasp and all that every single time I read those sad parts. Love this book and I can't wait for movies 6 and 7!! Still waiting for some opportunity to watch movie 5. ~X (

Utterly wonderful and one of my favourite of all of the books. It was the answers that we so craved...and the era of a beautiful saga at a close.

I must say then when I got the book I was afraid. I didn't want it to end. I was one of those who thought surely Voldemort and Harry would just take each other out. To do any less would be almost...lacking. But the idea of losing Harry was utterly heartbreaking. I understood from the get go that this would be a dark book...I'm a military wife so I truely understand that good lives must be lost for the greater good. Some of the characters we lost were truely unforseen...although I don't think we could've understood the severity of the situation by simply losing characters who have been bystanders all this time. When Harry walked into the woods I cried...I had to take a moment and grab a tissue because I could no longer make out the words. I thought...wow, there's just no way out of this, no hope. I didn't want to keep reading for fear of the end. With Dumbledore I felt betrayed... especially in the princes tale. But he redeemed himself a little in kings crossing...enough that I no longer hated him. As for Fred...I see the point. It would've been too Disney to let our most beloved go untouched. Lupin and Tonks...yeah I noticed our next generation Harry...but I really wish they both didn't have to go...although a more fitting Godfather there just couldn't be. As for the epiloge...I'm grateful. I would've always wondered about him and Ginny, and I'm just glad to have had that little glimpse into the things that came next. A full book would've been too too much. I was able to walk away satisfied instead of depressed. I think JKR gave everyone everything they could've wanted and I think she managed to pull it all off without the "and they all lived happily ever after" cheese factor I know a few of us dreaded. I look forward to re-reading my entire collection again and again and maybe next time...to my kids.

I must admit that this must be the best book i have ever read, it has everything that a good Harry Potter must have

.
It did surprise me to see what characters that died, but some of them i had expected, but was still a shock to read that they actually did die, and i did feel emotionel about all those that died in this great battle, and i did like JK Rowlings way of surprising us through the whole book, when ever you thout that you knew what was going to happen you turnd the page and something else happend.
I must admit that when i read that Fred,Mad-eye,Lupin,Tonks,Colin and Snape died

, i raised my glass in there honor.
I think that JK Rowling could have had more people in the epilogue and also i think that she could have answerd more of what did happend to rest of the people like the Weasley family,Hagrid, the other teachers,Kingsley,Luna,Dean,Seamus and the other members of DA and the Order of the Phoenix and also the Dursley`s.

My opinion ? It was GREAT!! I loved the book.. My favorite of the series.. But I was disappointed by the deaths.. Hedwig, Mad-Eye, Fred, Tonks, Lupin, Snape, Dobby and so on..
I was impressed by the story of Severus Snape, I knew that he was innocent and he was on Dumbledore's side ! I was sure ! But he died in a very sad way.. Although he is my favorite character of all HP books.
I liked very much Neville. He was very brave and intelligent in this book.
I've read some of your replies and I've seen that many of you are disappointed by the epilogue and the most by the name Albus Severus

. I liked that name because I loved the two characters: Dumbledore and Snape, and a combination of them came perfectly

. And I liked the epilogue too, it revealed a happy family and their friends happy too

.
Otherwise, I am Romanian and I have read the book in English because in Romanian it appears on 1 December

and I couldn't wait.

I have to say I agree with Slytherings Real Heir, it's one of the best books I've ever read (if not
the best), and definitely the best in the series. Emotional and full of surprises, and it had me hooked from the moment I opened it and throughout the whole story with practically no dull moments, which I really appreciated. I could hardly stop reading, because I felt I needed to know what would happen next and at several points I could only think "what the f*** just happened?". I have to admit that I've never enjoyed reading so much as I did the five days I spent reading this one and I can do nothing but raise my glass and take off my hat for JK Rowling - one of the most brilliant, screwed up heads I ever knew existed (and I mean that in the best way possible) - for giving me and so many others a reading experience beyond anything I could possibly imagine.
As for the epilogue, I felt it was a bit short and it seemed a little rushed. Don't get me wrong, I liked it, it was a nice way to end the series, but I think more people should be included, for example the rest of the Weasley clan, the Order and the DA, and although I know it now, I'd have hoped she'd put in what Harry, Ginny, Ron, Hermione and all those people worked with and not to mention who Draco ended up marrying.
Loved the name Albus Severus though

, and I was really fascinated by Snape's story. Although I had my doubts about him, I've always liked him and I'm glad he turned out to be "Dumbledore's man through and through" after all. To bad he had to die though.

Like I said, I loved the book, and towards the end, I really didn't want to finish it (I'm sure many people felt the same way), because I wanted it to last as long as possible. But although I felt a bit sad about finishing it, I'm satisfied.

I LOVED IT!!!
however one ad thing i felt there were too many near misses, like he gets him then he escapes....
also i felt that it kept building you up then letting you down it did that too much.
however i loved the way she did everything! everythingwas finished off nicely i wish that lupin and tonks didnt die though!! sniff sniff.
the epilouge was great,i loved it although i wished we were told who the headmaster/mistress im guessing it was Mcgonogal...
I LOVE HARRY POTTER!!

What did you think?Definitly The Best Book Of The Series. It Had All The Magic Of Previous Potter Titles But With A Darker Grown Up Edge Which Appealed To Me. Top Drawer.
Were there parts that made you jump? When Hedwig Died!!! So Abrupt And Sudden! I Loved That Owl... I Felt he Deserved A Better Send Off...
Were there parts that made you laugh out loud and have the people sitting near you look at you strangely?Fred & George Had Me Every Time..."Holey"...
Ron As Well... Funniest Memeber Of The Trio.. "We'll Just Have To Wing It Mate"
Did you cry at any point? No. But If I Did, It Woulda Been When Poor Hedwig Died..
Were there any parts that made you really angry or annoyed? What annoyed you? Was is the actual scene and you were meant to be annoyed, or was it because something in the book happened that you really didn't think should be there?Fred's Death, Definitly Unnecessary. To Kill Off Half Of the Fred & Geaorge Show Was Just Tragic. No More Witty Back And Forths Or Finishing Each Others Sentences...
Does this conclude the series for you? Are you happy with the ending?I'm Content With It Yes But The Epilogue Had Plenty More Potential.

This book has become my favorite of the series. I was only a few chapters in and I was saying to myself "Man, I can't wait for this movie!" The action/fight scenes were sensational, too bad there weren't some more small ones, like of the resistance forces inside the school.
My only complaints are that some of the grammar seemed really wrong. Like at some points, I had to reread a section like 20 times to be sure I understood what she was trying to say. At other times, it seemed like there were words missing. Has anyone else experienced that? I read the US version by the way.
I also didn't like the whole let's just wander around England in hiding. That dragged on way too long in my opinion. At that point, I felt as if I was reading a different book. The epilogue was also really cheesey. Like if felt she only put that there to tie up every major loose end so no one could continue the series. Granted I'm extremely happy she did that because I for one wanted to know what happened to the main characters, and I don't want to see anyone try to continue this series because it's over. It just didn't feel... genuine. Oh, and there were other major parts too that felt like she put them in there just because there were a lot of rumors flying around as to what was going to happen. I'm not saying she didn't have it planned from the start. I'm just saying it didn't feel genuine and wholly believable.
But in the end, it's by far the best of the series.

it was a great book, my favorite. But in the epilouge, they made it seem as though Ted was still in Hogwarts, (He would have been 19) but overall the book was great.
It would have just made the book even better if the only time Harry ever used Avada Kedavra would be to save Ginny, i know it would have ruined the whole, "Harry is the opposite of Voldemort" thing or whatever, but it would have just made the book better

Ok for the most part, I loved the book. I was staying up til 4 am, 3 nights straight, to read it. Every time somebody important died I was in shock, especially when Harry died. I mean I knew it couldn't be true but I was still in shock. And then he came back and everything was all right. I especially hate the way Voldemort died. Killed by his own rebounding spell? How dumb. Harry should have been the one to actually kill him, using the killing curse. It would have made Voldemort's death alot more spectacular. First because Harry killed Voldemort, and second because Harry finally got up the courage to use the killing curse. And after reading this book I am sort of mad at Dumbledore. He set Harry up just so Voldemort could kill him. I mean I know he had best intentions but still, Harry trusted him. And I don't care what the book says, Snape is still evil.

Oh and yes I think the epilogue was cheesy. Especially the names: Albus Severus Potter. What kind of name is that? Even though I have said some negative things, this is still my favourite of the series.

I thought it was awful. Awful as in poorly written, lousy plot, insufficient editing, tedious, that kind of awful. It's what we refer to as a "summer read". The kind of book you take on vacaction, read when you have the time, and then promptly forget to bring home because you know you'll probably never read it again.
I just could not get into DH. Jo provide far too many "loopholes" for Harry to exploit, it became downright campy. It read like some story little, little kids tell each other. Their heroes are invincible and no matter what happens, they insert some "miracle" to get them through. Harry becomes a Horcrux, not through the normal means, but only in the strange, one-of-a-kind accident that only occurs when your mother throws herself in front a powerfully evil wizard who has already split his soul several times before, on a Tuesday in October. Yeah, right. For as brilliant as Voldemort was - he discovered at least two things that learned wizards and witches had been searching for for centuries (The lost diadum and the Chamber of Secrets), perfected magic most wizards didn't even know about, and yet somehow missed out on what the Hallows were. Vodlemort is reduced to a cartoon caricature of an evil wizard, somewhere along the lines of a Snidely Whiplash or the Claw (from Inspector Gadget). Far too many people died in this book and honestly, I didn't care when it happened. Snape's death is an afterthought. Neville Longbottom has a complete personality change although we're not sure why.
There were a few good moments, but even a blind pig finds an acorn every once in while.

I finished the book and loved everything about it except the ending. it seemed rushed, and left me hanging. i think there should have been at least one more chapter, an aftermath one of you will. I would like to have known what the characters that we have come to know and love, were going to do. i felt like ive been broken up with, without and explanation. i mean this is the LAST book, i would have like some more closure.
the epilogue also lacked. like who is victoire, meaning, whose daughter was she? what did ron, Hermione, harry and the rest of the gang end up doing with their lives as far as career wise?
what happened to luna, george, percy (i know he was there but what was he doing?), and the other closely followed characters?
i feel its a sad way to end a great series.

well this is a tricky one... i liked the ending as they all lived hapily ever after but the actual book itself was sort of dissapointing in a way
im glad that JK cleared up all the missing bits about dumbledore, snape, voldemort and everything else but i felt like there was too much attention focused on the death eaters attacking harry and co and not enough on the actual deaths of his friends. i think most of the deaths (mad eye, tonks, lupin and fred) were a bit unnecessary and i would have felt a bit more emotional had JK described it more but i wasnt and i think that was a shame because i cried like a baby when dumbledore died yet in this book all the deaths were so... casual?
oh and baby Teddy being left without parents, just a godfather – déjà vu anyone?
i think it was good however because a lot of loose ends were cleared up like ron and hermione finally kissing! neville showing his bravery and courage and standing up to voldemort in the end. dumbledore and harry managing to have one final chat (like the good old days) in kings cross and the whole school rising in rebellion!
as for the epilogue im actually satisfied with it, i understand what JK meant in her interview, shes never going to be able to satisfy all her fans and that if she had written every little detail it would have been a bit too much (if that makes sense). i think she included the essentials in the epilogue and has left the rest to our imagination as she does so well
i also liked the way that almost everything thats been in the past 6 books came into this one like the chamber of secrets and even a dragon!
oh and one last thing, Albus Severus Potter - cheeeeesy................ but great!
and another... i love the fact that harry's final spell against voldemort was expelliarmus - classic!
so overall what im trying to say is that im satisfied with the ending and that i can breath a huge sigh of relief that i havnt been left in doubt

Ok, well I know it was the end of an era and everything but I couldn't help feeling a little dissapoineted...not just by the realisation that my favourite series of all time had just ended, but more to the fact that I felt it could have gone out so much better.
Don't get me wrong, I mean for the most part it was a fantastic book, full of excitment and emotion wrenching events [I can say this is the case for me because I cried at every soppy moment etc] but really for me there were as many unanswered questions and plotholes in this book than in any other of the series, and that shouldnt be the case in the final entry, should it? But maybe that's just me.
I didnt particularly like how some of the characters were presented, and was a bit let down by the final battle and the way voldemort was killed. It seemed such an anticlimax that basically he killed himself after 17years of preparing tol kill harry. Also, the language? Im not one to complain about language in books, it really doesnt bother me..it was just really the fact that we had gotten through 6 excellent books where the characters to each other to 'eat dung' or harry 'swore' without ever having to resort to proper swear words..and really to me that just made them stand out more in this one and it just felt to me that they felt wrong coming from their mouths! haha im acting like a little protector for their innocence. I didnt like the epilogue, it would have been so much better if it went on a little longer, to the length of a regular chapter. Yes, she wanted to get out of the series and it came with a happy ending, but this kind of happy just seemed a little bit too cheesy....

I thought that it was definitely the best of the series. It provided perfect suspense, drama, love, humor and a great climax. The fact that I didn't have a clue what to expect made it all the more better.

i liked it. I mean we all knew harry had to destroy all of the horcruxes but i dont see why she made harry one. The part where Voldemort killed harry but he didnt die was kinda stupid in my opinion. Yeah there was a point to it but still. And i liked the ending..i cant beleive Neville a proffesor lol

I really loved the Deathly Hallows! It was my favorite in the series! I thought that it was amazing, for many reasons. Here are a couple. I thought the ability of the book to make me feel so many strong emotions, from being just plain scared, to sobbing, to laughing myself silly, the book had me totally engaged. I also loved this book because it was, in my opinion, the most profound book in the series. It was just lot more profound and dark than all the other books and it just made you really think over everything. And saying that is alot because the other books were quite profound too.

I also absolutely ADORED the fact that Snape had loved Lily, and cared about Harry, and thought his story and his death were desperately sad, yet incredibly moving. Also, it was moving how Harry was so selfless in giving himself up to Voldemort .I was so sad when he found out his fate! I am unbelievably sad that the books are over, yet glad that JKR let us know, in this last book, that all of the characters we have come to love are happy:),even though it would have been nice to know a little more about some of the other characters in the epilogue.
Thanks to JKR for the best books ever!!

Ive already wrote my opinions on the book, but the longer it passes, and the more i read the book, my opinions kinda change.
Before, i said that i didnt like that epilogue.. well now i kinda extreamely dislike it. I have read the book 3 times since, and in later readings i just cannot bring myself to read the end chapter 'cus it does sound like some bad fan fiction.
Albus Severus Potter - what a name!!!! I wonder what on earth possessed Jo to give harrys son such a cheesy name..its abit basically like a bad joke.. but anyway.
Ive been reading other peoples reviews.. and the death of voldermort is abit of an anticlimax. But.. im glad harry survived so im not gonna moan to much.
Overall i still think the book is brilliant.. but could of needed some tweaks here and there to improve things.. and the final epilogue? redone.

I've just finished a second read through, and my opinions have changed slightly.
My overall impression of the book is a little more favorable. OOtP will always and forever be my favorite of the series, but on a second read, DH might just be second.
But I'm beyond disappointed with the epilogue. Last time I thought it was too short, too cheesey, and didn't have enough detail. This time through, I realized that it had a completely different voice. It's as if the rest of the series were written by an adult and the epilogue was like the "It was all a dream" episode of Dallas.
The voice was wrong, the characters didn't behave in character (except maybe Ron) and the impression it left me with is that the epilogue had been written by a twelve-year-old JK Rowling and the entire series was written to link up to it. It just didn't fit, and the Happily Ever After was too tidy, even for a fairy tale.
So, I guess I liked the first 30 some chapters of the book almost as well as I've liked anything else JK Rowling has written and think that the epilogue was an actual ecologically disastrous waste of the ink and paper it took to print it.

I, unfortunately, am not one of those fans who spent hours in the rain waiting for the bookstore to open. My dad was actually the one who'd buy the books. Mostly, cause he wanted to get his hands on it before I could. He'd want to know all the little details in the book to torture me with. He'd threaten to tell me about all the plot twists if I didnt hand over the remote.
And I ran to him when I read that Mad Eye had been killed. I loved him! He was insanely quirky. I cried for 15 minutes before reminding myself that I still had a long way to go, and maybe, just maybe... he might not be dead. (Dad, of course, refused to tell me about this.)
I'm ashamed to say that I'm one of those few who read the fake Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows that was circling the internet. I read it, liked some of it and hated other parts. But in the end, JKR stil surprised me with the book. I could never have imagined the idea of the hallows and I'd always expected Dumbledore to be the kind, old man in the other books. But it was interesting. A perfect way to end it.
Fred's death shocked me the most. Twins have a special bond, and to see that broken was deserved more tears than I was able to shed. I'd be lost without my other half, if it was me.
Despite what others may say, I liked the way in which she portrayed Lupin's death. James and Sirius were, as we all know, very outgoing young men. Both had loud personalities and she brought that out in their deaths. They'd want to go out in style. With a bang. Something like that. Lupin, on the other hand, was the quieter one. The one who kept them in check. His death fit his personality. I believe he would have wanted to die with Tonks by his side, quietly. No big fuss, no fancy stunts. Just knowing his son was safe, and having his wife with him, I think, was good enough for him.
Also, I think it was JKR's way of giving us the end of one era and the beginning of another. It was the time of the Marauders long ago. Now, its Harry, Ron and Hermione's time to be grown ups.
Pettigrew's death was a little strange, but fitting. He was always the weakest, and needed the others to help him with things. It seemed right that someone would 'help' him with his death. Fitting for the man who got James and Lily killed.
I honestly think it wouldnt have been as real to us if there'd been strangers dying during the war. People we'd heard of once or twice or people we'd never come across in any of the books. People always lose loved ones during a war and this was JKR's way of showing it. Fred, Lupin and Tonks were loved ones to us. It wouldnt have been the same if some batty, old woman died during the war. We'd have skipped it as quick as possible to get on with the story. That part made me stop and read carefully.
Kreacher's change of heart was a fitting end to Hermione's endless lectures on being nicer to the house-elves. In the end, she was right. Must've made Ron and Harry feel pretty ashamed for not listening to her. Kreacher was an absolute delight after Harry gave him the locket. A real sweetheart! It sort of proves the point that not everyone is entirely evil. You just have to find the good in them.
I read all the spoilers and I was waiting for them. I was disappointed that most werent explained and that some werent explained enough. I'd really like to have known what changed Dudley's mind about Harry. Or even more details about Aunt Petunia's letter to Dumbledore, with his reply.
My favorite moment was, and will always be, Mrs. Weasley screaming "NOT MY DAUGHTER............!" I remember that moment and I laugh. Everyone around me thinks I'm insane, now. A perfect Mrs. Weasley moment. My second favorite was McGonagall's commands to the suits of armor. Where the castle itself sort of rises up to defend those who love it.
The epilogue... What a disaster! I dont know what JKR was thinking, but no one in their right mind would name their child Albus Severus. That poor boy is going to be teased for the rest of his life. I really wanted to know what happened to the others. Luna? McGonagall? George? The Creevey Brothers? Even Pansy... But she didnt give us anything except what you'd find in the most basic fanfics. Where were the details we got in the books? Nothing... Rubbish, honestly. It was pointless, a waste of paper and not worth it at all. I would have liked it if there was more to it, but... I guess we'll never know.
Ron and Hermione was obvious from the start. But I liked the way it happened. Ron standing up for the house elves. Beautiful!
I loved it at times and hated it, too. I cant decide which one I like best. Its too soon for that. But it was well written, although in the case of some parts, that's debatable. JRK has outdone herself. The only thing I'd ask her to change... I'd beg her to reconsider 'Albus Severus'.

[color=#336666]ok it was probably my favorite book.. but i can't decide. it was pretty much amazing. i was mad when ron just quit on hermoin and harry... i mean there is only so much harry could do! but i was very glad that he came back and helped harry and destroyed the horcrux. i really thought harry was going to die... and was expecting it but when voldemort"killed" him i was sobbing my eyes out! then i realized that he didnt really die and i was happy. it was great how neville became brave and like a second leader in the end. i must admit i was crying when fred and lupin and tonks died though. the epilogue was... ummm... interesting.. i really expected better from jk rowling.. the whole everyone lives happily ever after marrying there school sweethearts and stuff... what i would expect from ordinary books. i was happy but wasnt at the same time... if that makes since. i was mad that she didnt explain what happened to hagrid and luna and dean and all of the other DA members and what HArry Ron Hermoine and Ginny do now like job wise... the snape thing was very depressing though... but it made me happy that he was good in the end and that that was his patronus! i was thinking somewhere along the lines of lily because james was a stag, so i was sort of right in the way that it had to do with lily. and i personally liked the way voldemort died and harry talking to him and stuff... definitely going to have to read it again though

Sorry for not taking the time to read the whole thread, if someone has mentioned this before me I'm sorry.
The Epilogue sucked for several reasons.
1. Albus Severus? WTF.
2. Wives, babies, etc etc...great and all but where's the actual important ****? I want to know what Harry did with his life for crying out loud.
3. The mischevious Teddy Tonks would not have been on the Hogwarts express on that day (Snogging Victoire, as it were) as he would have gratuated from Hogwarts already (born before the death of Voldemort, 19 years later would make him 19 years old.). Guess she was in too big of a rush to drown us in syrupy sentiment.
If the Epilogue is not brought into consideration this was a great book. She should do the epilogue over. That's my $.02

I think she did a great job. she didn't have much of choice in the ending since he couldn't kill harry. there are lots of children who read the books so it was not right for the Good to Die. I loved the last chapter but i think if she mentioned what happens to others it would've been nice. I'm happy with it.

Sorry, but I was really disappointed. The whole thing seemed nothing like the Harry Potter that I've been reading for the past 10 years ... it was like a fanfic, as nicely put in the poll options.
WTF was with all this Dumbledore nonsense? Ok, we need to know about his past, it was interesting, but not that much. I actualloy groaned out loud when I saw just how many pages one of the Rita Skeeter articles covered ... I was more interested to know what was happening with the characters that were still alive ... how they were preparing for the war, and fighting etc.
MORE IMPORTANTLY where were the thoughts of Harry?! We found out about Snape and Lily ... we don't know how he felt. They peformed Unforgiables ... we don't know how they felt.
There was none of the depth that I had grown used to from reading the other books. It didn't appear carefully thought out ... wtf were the Hallows introduced, there was no indication of such things in previous books ...
Oh, and something that sticks out in my mind: what was with the encounter with Dean and the goblins ... what are they chances of them walking past their tent? Apparantly, very high

There just didn't seem to be ANY planning to it at all. Just written straight from her mind, knowing that many fans would appreciate it ...
As a piece of writing, ignoring just how big Harry Potter has become, it was aweful.

i thought it was great.
althouth some of the deaths were completly unnecessary.
the epilouge was horrible, absolutley horribe.
it should have been a lot longer and showed what more thant 5 people were doing with their lives, how the scool was doing (considering it got blown up), who all the teachers are now, whose minister of magic (unless kingsley is), and last but not least, what are the dursleys doing.
i loved the book just not the epilouge it left too many unanswered questions

I thought that the book was exciting, I like it, and I enjoy it because it was different from the other books, I like that there was more action, and that it started pretty early and then all this unexpected things in the book like the attacks, the plans and everything.
I thought that many people die, and I was surprised by that, I didn't expect so many deaths.
And about the epilogue, uhm I think I would like it better without it, just with some chapter at the end after the fight and all, telling you just how everyone was doing, so you can know more about the other characters, and the epilogue ogm,
