Hey I was wandering, Do you have to be addede to some kind of roster to be part of the S.O.S.S., or do you just post? I haven't seen anything saying anything from one way to another. Was just wondering. Thought about putting it in my siggie.

Yup, I agree with you, I do believe everyone has forgotten about Alan. I am both shocked and horrified.

Ah, Alan is never forgotten, atleast not by devoted fans. wink.gif

I have just ordered Mesmer! YAY! I have been looking all over for a copy at a reasonable prize. biggrin.gif My Alan Rickman collection is starting to become a bit embarrassing actually laugh.gif All my friends are starting to wonder a bit unsure.gif

Eh, but I do not care, he is a brilliant actor. cool.gif
Capricorn
Hi everyone, my name is Capricorn! <y'all chant back: Hi Capricorn!>

*sigh* what can one do? I've literally seen every movie he is in that is available in video rental shops in my city, so I've started on Amazon.uk. Not good, I don't recommend this!

Anyway, it's not fair that he is 60 and I'm 18 an he's still hot. Man that's outta town. blink.gif

Has anyone seen the Barchester Chronicles? 1982 I think - he is absolutely great! I read the books before, and he was just spot on as usual. That would have made him ... ummm, 36. What a treat. wub.gif
Capricorn
This getting annoying, sorry, but for no apparant reason I just double posted again! It keeps happening with this computer! Not that Alan Rickman isn't worth two posts, but man, it's not funny anymore. I'm really sorry.
silver_moon
hello, there, people!!!
This is supossed to be a slytherin topic? or an Alan rcikman topic?

Padfoot08
OHHHHH, I am sooooooooooooooooo glad to be back here.
I am also glad to see others posting here as well! Welcome!

I'm very sorry for the double post. I know that I could have just edited. However, I believe this to be important enough, to us S.O.S.S.
members, for a double post. Please if you post in here, or just love Mr. Alan Rickman, I think that you should check this out.
Some people might have already seen it, but I just saw it today.
Thanks to the friend that told me.
Ok go HERE
Hope you enjoy.

Hey guys smile.gif Anyone catch BlowDry when it was on BBC this week? I've got the DVD, of course, wink.gif, but it's a really sweet one and if you're an Alan fan, you should really make sure you see it wink.gif

Padfoot...hey, that video is what truly opened my eyes to Alan in the first place!! tongue.gif That one is streaming, so is a little jumpy, but if you want to download it for keeps, that link I posted a while back, BritClips, has it available. Plus, of course, I paid a ludicrous amount of money on Ebay for the single which had the VCD on it...tongue.gif

Oh, and in the meantime, check this out, courtesy of one of the old timers on this thread, Rickmansmissus...

EDIT 2 : I've just re-watched that video...*drools* Oh man, he is so incredibly sexy...oh wow....I really need to go lie down for a moment...

I ordered Mesmer from Amazon.ca biggrin.gif

Mesmer

I'm still waiting for it though. BUT, I did get Rasputin today, YAY, I'm going to watch it in a few minutes smile.gif

Oh, and the In demand video...*sigh* Alan is such a great dancer, I just LOVE the dance scene at the gas station. I have it downloaded on my computer and I watch it as often as I can.. wub.gif

Hmm, I think I need to watch it right now. tongue.gif I think I'll have an Alanathon this weekend wink.gif
Capricorn
Ooooh, this is not good for me. I need to go lie down too. *sighs, defeated*

Thanks for all the links everybody, it's - well, not too great really - since I'm useless for the rest of the evening now. tongue.gif Aaanyway, I've seen BlowDry! It was really good, and Mr. Rickman was, as always, breathtaking!

Bill Nighy was hilarious as well, and I just loved him in Love Actually. And I looove the scene in Love Actually between Alan and Rowan Atkinson - there can't be a scene with two funnier people in biggrin.gif

I want to see Mesmer, guess I'll have to order it. In the meantime I'll just watch S&S and T,M,D. Enough to be getting on with, I think happy.gif

I'll come back when I've recovered...
Louise
Oh, yay!!! biggrin.gif At long last, my mission for Mesmer is complete!! Thank you so much!!! You are now officially my favourite person in the entire universe!!

It hasn't been available anywhere for ages, they must suddenly have gotten their hands on some copies. I checked the British site first and get this...they wanted £75 for it!! For a DVD!!! $31 Canadian is about £15 quid here, which is about the going rate for a DVD so as far as I'm concerned it was a bargain! Whoopee!! biggrin.gif

It's going to take about two months to get here mind, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait tongue.gif

Rasputin is brilliant, BTW, you'll love it. There's a scene in there where he has such gentle compassion with the Tsar's son...really touched me. And the ending is just gut-wrenching...wonderful film.

I did love that tattoo on his foot in Blowdry though...so cool...tongue.gif And you're right, Capricorn, about Love Actually. Bill Nighy is really underrated too, you know...not to drift too far off topic, but if you like him, you should see a little film called 'The Girl in the Cafe' - it's wonderful wink.gif Anywho, Love Actually...yep, brilliant film. Who wouldn't try it on with their boss if they were as sexy as Alan Rickman, eh?! Who can blame the girl?
passerby
Sheesh, I'm going to have to join you guys in lying down for a bit. And wiping the drool off of my chin. You know, I rarely have moments when I truly want to be someone else . . . but that about did it.

Sigh.

Gonna go watch it again.

(For all you Firefly fans out there), I'll be in my bunk.

No problem, Michelle Dessler wink.gif Glad I could help biggrin.gif

I did actually poke around a bit at the British site, that's where I got Rasputin from, and I couldn't believe they charged that much for it. At Amazon.com the dvd cost $112 for a new copy!! wacko.gif I couldn't believe it, and I thought that I was NEVER going to get my hands on Mesmer. But then I accidently went on Amazon.ca, and they had it a lot cheaper, it was really a bargin!!
I'm still waiting for mine, I ordered it last week, so I probably won't get it sometime soon. But it's soooo worth the wait.

I'm going to finally watch Rasputin now, yay. I'm so excited biggrin.gif
felix_felicis_444
Okay, I really feel so stupid posting here because not only am I not a Slytherin, I am not so "Severely Obsessed" either...

As a matter of fact, living in the United States, Harry Potter was the first film I saw with him in it whistling.gif ...

Anyway, did any of you in the U.S. catch Dogma on Comedy Central yesterday? It was my first time ever seeing it, and it is probably one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. So insightful....I was just sitting in my chair thinking about it for an hour after it ended....

The cast was fabulous: aside from Alan Rickman playing an Angel ("God's voice"), there was Matt Damon (Angel of Death) and Ben Affleck who were banished to Wisconsin ( laugh.gif haha...that was hysterical!), Linda Fiorentino as the last scion of Christ, Chris Rock as the 13th Apostile who was taken out of the Bible because he was black, Salma Hayek as a muse, "Jay and Silent Bob" as prophets tongue.gif , and Jason Lee as a demon.

Probably the best casting choice, however, was Alanis Morissette as God. She portrayed God wonderfully: a smiling little girl whose only purpose is to be happy, help people, and enjoy herself.

If you have never seen the movie, I recommend it to you. Alan Rickman is an awesome actor (as usual, no?)...

_daviD
Louise
Oh, hi there, David! smile.gif Welcome to our little corner, here!

Yes, Dogma is definitely one of my favourites...for many reasons, the major one of which is, of course, the always-sexy Mr Rickman wink.gif He has a real natural gift for comedy, which is appreciated all the more when you've also seen him at his complete, full-on menacing best in films like Closetland.

I can't believe that HP was the first movie you saw him in though, what about Die Hard?! I thought that was pretty much required viewing!

I watched Close My Eyes on the weekend...wow....I'm sorry to say that it's an utterly awful film, but Alan makes it very watchable...particularly in one part where he's...erm...*ahem*....you know....wink.gif

Well, it is an 18 rated....tongue.gif

I think my next mission is going to be trying to lay my hands on a copy of 'Something the Lord Made'. That looked really good, judging from the few clips I downloaded from that site the other day.

For now, I'll survive with Sense again...I'll never understand how Marianne could possibly have overlooked Colonal Brandon for Willoughby. As if they're even in the same class...

Capricorn
Oh, thanks for the warning about Close My Eyes, Michelle. I'll make sure I watch it alone then, when I do.

Alan was hilarious in Dogma. I can't believe why the big studios don't queue for him to be in their movies. He is versatility - comedy, romance, bad guys, biography, drama, action, suspense... You name it, he can do it.

Something the Lord Made can only be treat - Alan Rickman, Mos Def, history, human drama - it can't get any better for me. I'm ordering it with my next Amazon.uk batch, together with Blackadder. Hmmm, can't wait!

I think I'm off to watch a few favourite HP3 scenes actually - waiting, waiting for the GoF DVD to come out here! dry.gif
legally_blonde01
Michelle and Capricorn, you guys will love "something the lord made". I absolutly love that movie, it's really moving. cool.gif

I actually liked "Close my eyes", and yes, I agree that the topic if icky and unsettling. But for some reason I like Alan's weird movies, like Dark Harbor for instance. laugh.gif

Ooo, I really liked Alan in Dogma, he looks absolutly divine when he walks on water wub.gif

Sense and Sensibility is my favorite Alan move, he is just perfect for the part as Brandon. Although I wanted Brandon to end up with Elinor instead of Marianne blink.gif

Oh, I watched Rasputin, oh my god, I really LOVED that movie! If anyone here has not seen it yet, GET IT! I loved Alan's portrail of Rasputin, so disgustingly brilliant! laugh.gif

So, I've just bid an obscene amount of money on that silly single with the video so I can play it over and over and over. . .something which I've been doing a lot of lately anyways! My husband isn't worried. Not at all! HAHAHA!

I also have procured a copy of "Mesmer" and am looking forward to its arrival. And I bought a silly autograph. Seriously. I didn't think I was this obsessed with Rickman, but apparently I was wrong. Way wrong.

Sigh.
Padfoot08
passerby~ Don't fret. We all think that we are not obssessed, but we all truly know that we are. Most of us just don't want to admit it. *sigh*
I am obssessed! And frankly proud of it!
Something the Lord Made is an awesome movie!
Haven't seen Close My Eyes,... yet. Hehe. happy.gif
Alan in Dogma was perfect! Oh my God (stupid pun).
Favourite Alan movie has to be Truly, Madly, Deeply.
Don't favor the mustache a whole lot, but whatever.
PS~ been meaning to ask you Michelle Dessler., am I allowed to give links to pics on this site? Because I have been, and I wasn't sure if I was supposed to. Thanks.
Louise
Oh yeah, links to pics are fine smile.gif Just as long as you don't post the actual pics because it gives some people's computers the shakes, if you know what I mean tongue.gif And any Alan pics you'd care to share would be most appreciated!

You know, I was thinking the other day when I was watching Sense...there's, what, forty years between Alan and Kate Winslett? How come no one says anything about that but people get all weird whenever the concept of Snape/Hermione fics come up? Granted, I don't really care much for the ones where she's still in school, but the ones where she's slightly older make great reading. It's a beautiful ship, it really is.

And don't worry, Janet, we're all obsessed in our ways smile.gif I would pay a ludicrous amount of money for an autograph too, so long as I could be sure it was genuine. I got taken in by an auction of Ebay once where I thought I was getting a genuine Gillian Anderson sig, but it turned out to be a photocopy dry.gif I've been a lot more cautious since, I can tell you!

So, Something the Lord Made is really good, eh? I'll definitely be laying my hands on a copy of that then.

BTW, has anyone seen the sketch he did on Victoria Wood's Christmas Special a few years ago, where he was doing a sort of parody of a Jane Austen novel? It was sooo funny...it should be available on that BritBits site I mentioned if you can't get the DVD, although it's worth getting anyway because Victoria Wood is amazing.

I absolutely loved Dark Harbor too though! What a twist, eh?! I so didn't see it coming! Was I wrong to get kind of excited there at the ending though? ph34r.gif tongue.gif Dear, dear...I'm a sicko....tongue.gif
Capricorn
Mwahahaha! tongue.gif I have his signature - with my name on it! To _____, Best Wishes, Alan Rickman. I wrote to him.

Hehe, just looked at it again. *sigh* Thing is, how can you be obsessed with Alan Rickman... without being a bit of a sicko? Isn't he the personification of mystery - the forbidden fruit you shouldn't be wanting? Only some people find him handsome - but if you do, you're a goner...

I've got a question: what about him made all of you obsessed? (I can say that, since we're all 'coming out' anyway).

I have to admit blush.gif I saw him for the first time in Harry Potter. I know, I know, but Die Hard (required viewing according to Michelle) just went past me - one of those movies you intend to watch but you never get around to it - I didn't know what I was missing. I have seen it now, of course.

So it was my Snape obsession (dodgy in itself) that led to my Alan obsession. Under those black robes is a surprisingly manly and athletic man. Two of my favourite Snape scenes in Philospher is where Harry sees his bleeding leg (yeah, first traces of sicko-ness, his blood making me realise his manliness). The blood on his leg is a sign that he is alive in a way that Harry cannot imagine.

The other one is where he puts out the fire on his robes at the Quidditch game. It's so powerful...

Sense and Sensibilty was the clincher. Hey! In S&S and Love Actually a younger woman is attracted to him. Aha, that might explain a few things to me...
Padfoot08
Well, since we are all admitting our love for for our dear lovely Alan, I might as well join in the love fest.
I agree with Capricorn. I never really noticed him until the HP movies.
I had seen AR movies before then, but I really never noticed (for lack of better terms) his "sex-appeal" until the HP movies.
Since then, I believe that I have become more obsessed with every passing day. *sighs* wub.gif
Michelle- thanks. People don't really post the links so I just didn't know.
I also agree. In S&S she is much younger than he is (lucky dry.gif ),
so what is wrong with an older Hermione and Snape. I think that she is almost just as smart as he, and I believe that he may like the way she threatens his intelligence with her own. I think that he likes her, he just doesn't show it, because he is still the teacher and authority over her. Anyway, I don't see really anything wrong with it. rolleyes.gif
Louise
Oh, I've been totally smitten with Alan for years, long before HP. I've always had a thing for older guys anyway, but there was something about his smooth, suave, quiet sexiness in Die Hard that first got me going. After that came Dogma, but then it was Sense that really made me think that I was just going to die if I didn't meet him soon...tongue.gif

It's something to fall for characters, because after all, they're actors playing a part and Alan in particular is darn good at what he does. But sometimes, when you see them out in public, all the illusions are shattered because they turn out to be total...well, you know...but Alan's not like that. He knows how talented he is, but he doesn't flaunt it. He's not arrogant or demanding in the way that some stars of his stature would be. He's genuine, he's passionate and he always takes time to acknowledge his fans. When I've seen his interviews, he's always so patient and seemingly glad to share his passion with people who are interested in him. He's unassuming, and I think that's very rare in stars these days.

So when you put his genuine likeability alongside his incredibly sexy voice and his very gentle ways, you have in a nutshell what is overall an incredibly attractive man wink.gif That's what does it for me, I think. The combination of genuine-ness, if that's a word, with the complexity and variety of characters he's capable of portraying. He's just utterly perfect...*sigh*

Which means he must be gay, considering my track record...tongue.gif

Anyway, least said about that, the better... whistling.gif

But I totally understand what you mean, Capricorn...about Snape's manliness, I mean. I got kind of...well...hot under the collar at the thought of poor Snape's injured leg too...and the sight of his blood showing how human he is after all...I really get where you're coming from there wink.gif And when he protected the kids from Wolf-Lupin....oh....*sighs in ecstasy* There's no doubt that no one else would have been half as good in the role as Alan is - can you believe they actually considered Tom Roth for it at one time? Tim Roth!! As though he is anywhere near the man Alan is!! I'm sure he's the reason Snape has so much support out there actually. I wonder if the arguments about Snape would rage quite as strongly if he'd been played by someone else?

Can you believe that we were having a chat in work the other day about guys who we thought were hot and I couldn't resist dropping into the conversation, very casually, that I thought Alan Rickman was rather cute and it was greeted with guffaws and comments like, 'What?! That moustache guy from T, M, D? He's ancient!' and 'Ew, he's gross! What do you see in him?!'

After they'd brought me around with the smelling salts (I'd fainted in sheer disbelief) I managed to ask them who they thought was hot - and they said Mike Tyson ( huh.gif ) and Sean Bean....

Unbelievable. I mean, Sean Bean I can maybe understand, but how on earth there are people out there who just don't understand Alan's sex appeal is completely beyond me. Ah well, their loss...leaves more of him just for us, eh?! tongue.gif
passerby
Exactly, Louise! The less they look, the more there is for us to look at. (I'm sure that works out somehow!)

I tripple checked the source of the autograph and have been assured that it is indeed, authenitc. So. . .if I get swindled, I at least have th guys email that garauntees the authenticity. Haven't received it yet though. . .hmm. Getting quite impatient!

And Mike Tyson? Seriously? And they had trouble with you finding Alan attractive? Some people. . .

I really first noticed Alan in Robin Hood. My friend and I would go around school quoting his "I'm going to cut your heart out with a spoon." And so forth and so on. Die Hard actually freaked me out a bit. Still found him darn appealing, but he managed to get under my skin. (And I found the change in Bruce Willis' shirt highly amusing!) I confess to not having seen TMD . . . something I'll have to convince my husband to rent for me! Teehee. He's going to catch on soon, I swear!

Does anyone have that audio-book that he did? I'm searching for it . . . I think Amazon has it, but I'm trying to behave myself.

EDIT: I was just lounging about in IMDb looking at Mr. Rickman's tidbits and found things that I thought quite amusing:

QUOTE
When he was a child, he had a speech disability: his lower jaw was very tight, causing his words to be indistinctive and muffled.
Definately nothing wrong with his speech now. . .makes me go weak in the knees!

QUOTE
Was the original voice of Leonardo Leonardo in the 2000 cartoon based on Kevin Smith's film Clerks. (1994), but was replaced by Alec Baldwin, courtesy of ABC.
Fox has been on my blacklist for a while, so I guess I'll just add ABC to it too for cancelling or recasting when they SHOULDN'T have!

QUOTE
Two of the Harry Potter films (so far) also feature Warwick Davis as Professor Flitwick. In The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Rickman and Davis play the same part. Davis wore the robotic suit for Marvin, while Rickman provides the voice.
This just makes me laugh. He was so depressing . . . but it's nice to see that they'll never be able to escape their Potter ties.

QUOTE
His portrayal of Hans Gruber in Die Hard earned him a spot on the American Film Institute's list of the "100 Best Heroes/Villains" as the 46th best villain in film history.
This should be enough to silence a lot of the "is he mean enough to play Snape" people.

QUOTE
Failed his California driving test at one point for "driving too cautiously through a green light"
ROTFL . . . just gotta love him.

I just need a moment to compose myself. Driving too cautiously. Heh. Can you seriously fail a driving test for that?

Capricorn
Aaaww! Bless him, a green light! I know what you're saying, Michelle. His characters aren't him, but he also once said that if you wanted to know who he was, you had to look at his work. He meant it in a more subtle way, of course, that inevitably, something about him comes across no matter who he is playing. It's almost as if he brings a gentleness to his characters, even if they are the worst villians ever. That's what makes him even more sexy - he's dangerous and safe at the same time. Snape isn't rough. He's just frustrated to the extreme. I can't think that anyone will be able to capture his brilliance and frustration better than Alan.

But yeah, he is the sweetest man alive. I've seen a few clips at award shows and interviews and photo's in public, and he is interested in other people and as down to earth as you can get. I can really see him driving too cautiously through a green light! Mind, how cautiously would it have to be to fail on that account?!

Look at this: Alan Rickman salutes the cast of Harry Potter - he's a dear...
Louise
Yeah, believe it or not, you can fail a test in this country for driving too cautiously tongue.gif They call it "failing to make progress" - i.e.driving at about 15 m.p.h in a 30 m.p.h zone dry.gif I have to confess to finding that particular habit exceptionally irritating. Now I'm not a speed demon by any means, but I feel like yelling at people sometimes, "Hey, the accelerator is the one on the right...you press it, the car goes...Jeez, I can get out and walk quicker than this dry.gif" What gets my goat more than anything else is that these guys think they're safe drivers by going at walking pace...then at the last minute they slam on their brakes, then indicate that they're about to turn huh.gif Don't they realise they're more likely to cause an accident like that?! Never mind the speed limit, what about Mirror-Signal-Manoeuvre?!

*ahem* Sorry about that... offtopic.gif

I'm sure Alan was just a little nervous, that's all...tongue.gif Actually, him driving brings to mind a dream I had about him once, coming to pick me up in a cherry red Mustang convertible. looking exactly like Sinclair from 'Close My Eyes'...what a dream that was...*sigh*

I love that line though, Janet...about the spoon...tongue.gif I still occasionally use that one when I'm irritated with someone and inevitably it draws a smile which hopefully shows that I very rarely totally lose it and I'm a big old softy really wink.gif I've heard about that audio book - someone in here asked about it once. I think Rickmansmissus had it...her Alan collection was incredible and included quite a few autographs and a letter from him..lucky thing...

But I guarantee, 100%, that you will absolutely adore T,M,D. If you're not blubbing like a baby by the end of it, then you have no heart...tongue.gif It's when he recites 'La Muerta'...just wow...

If you are not alive; if you, beloved, my love, if you have died,
All the leaves will fall on my breast, my darling;
It will rain upon my soul night and day and the snow will burn my heart,
I shall walk through cold, and fire, and death, and snow;
My feet will want to march toward where you are sleeping,
but I must go on, because you wanted me to be, above all things, indomitable,
and, my love, because you know that I am not just one man but all men.

*sighs in unrequited need* wink.gif
Capricorn
Just gotta say Michelle - looooove the signature! Specially pic 3 laugh.gif

I came across these pics of Alan where he can't have been far over 20. One of them's in my sig, but it's in a Romeo and Juliet play, so the corniest costumes and hair you'll ever see. I'll load it onto the hosting service and put a link sometime. I really cracked myself up! biggrin.gif
Louise
LMAO!! Yeah, I loved it when I saw it too! It's a wicked new little site I've found - Snapeiconarchive.com They have the best collection of Snape icons I've come across in a while, but I had quite the chuckle when I came across that one...tongue.gif

I noticed those pics of Alan you found - my, he is young there, isn't he?! He was very cute when he was younger, but he's definitely grown even more sexy with age...maturing like a fine wine or single malt scotch...

BTW, I loved that pic you put up in your last post too - he's a dear thing, isn't he...*sigh* wub.gif

You know, I do believe that's the first time I've used that icon on this board in a non-snarky way...tongue.gif Actually, I think it's the first time I've :wubbed: anyone since I scribbled 'Louise L/S Gareth' on my school pencil case and that was ten years ago!! I'm regressing! Argh!!!

Okay, so let me just tell you about irony. . .I payed too much for that Texas In Demand enhanced CD single recently . . .but before that I had stupidly bid on the same enhanced CD single on that dumb auction site. . .and I've just found out that I've won it. Now for the irony. . .I got it for around 10 bucks, almost 3 times less than I bought it for. Sigh.

And I just ordered that book on tape. . .sigh. It's a Thomas Hardy novel, so at least I know that I'll like it for 1) Alan's voice and 2) I like Thomas Hardy.

Thanks for the link to the Snape icons there Michelle! Those were great, thanks biggrin.gif

Here are some nice Alan icons:

Aw no, Janet! sad.gif I can sympathise...same thing happened to me with a copy of the Evening Standard that Gillian Anderson was on once. Not to worry, I thought...I'll just flog it to someone else. But unfortunately I seemed to be the only one daft enough to pay £15 for a £2 newspaper dry.gif

Can you sell it on? I'm sure you'll be able to get rid of it to someone...or else you can always look on it as you have a spare copy incase one gets damaged tongue.gif

So what Thomas Hardy is it? Where did you manage to get it?

BTW....erm...I'm terribly embarassed to ask...but...oh heck, just get it out, Lou....

You know you guys who've written to him? Couldn't....you know...forward the address, could you? blush.gif I know, I know, I'm sad...I'm pathetic....but what the hey? He doesn't know me, he's never going to, so who cares if he thinks I'm a prat? tongue.gif I'll have an autograph to show for it...hopefully...tongue.gif

Ooh, and thanks for the icons, legally!! smile.gif I might very well pich a few of those, if you don't mind....wink.gif

EDIT : OMG, there are some excellent sites around, aren't there?! I just followed some links from those you mentioned, and I found rickmanonline.net and a few icon journals too with some wicked signatures too! I think I'm going to spend many a happy hour wandering around those...wink.gif
Capricorn
Sure! I used the regular mail, it's the only address I've ever found of him:

Alan Rickman
C/o ICM
Oxford House
76 Oxford Street
London
WIB IBS

Try to time it well, 'cause I've seen that some people have only gotten a (very nice) letter from his agent saying he's too busy at the moment. She's very helpful and she sent a letter from her and Alan's autograph. happy.gif HP's filming breaks in June, so that might be a good time... I'll be in England then, so I'm keeping my ear on the ground for the odd live performance/appearance.

If you locals maybe hear of something? I'm a tourist - I'll get away with anything for the sake of the 'experience' - nothing to be ashamed about. Hehe tongue.gif
Louise
Oh, yay!! hug.gif An address and advice about when to send it, what more could I ask for!! Thank you!! biggrin.gif

Sure, I'll keep an ear out for anything he might be up to smile.gif I keep hoping he'll make a return to the stage at some point, but it's not looking too likely at the moment sadly. According to one of those sites I mentioned earlier, he's expected at the opening of "My Name is Rachel Corrie" in London's West End. I'm not sure if that means he's in it, or just that he's involved with it in some way, it wasn't made clear. I'll do some poking around and let you know wink.gif

It doesn't seem likely he'd sign for a play when he's got a film on the go, but then Snape's role in the films is never particularly large and it's still not clear what they're cutting, so..*shrugs* Anywho, I'll let you know if I hear anything smile.gif

He wrote the introduction to "My Name Is . . . " so perhaps he'll introduce it, or something fun like that.

I've now got into my VCR his "tour de force" of MESMER!! I'm so excited. He's looking rather mysterious and smart. It's quite intriguing at the moment . . . I'll let you know how it goes in the end.

The book is "The Return of the Native" (it came out in 2002).

Okay, I'm now way too distracted to finish this up. . .Can we bottle him? We'd be millionaires.

Edit: Well strike that idea. Thing #1 (my affectionate name for my son) decided that he needed to have a nightmare or something for a couple of hours, so I didn't get to finish it. I can say that Alan is probably the best thing in this move as of yet. Some disturbing themes have already been presented, though, and I'm not even a quarter of the way in!

Well, I shall be sure to check that out! I love the icons! Oh my God!
Alright, just wanted to check in with my fellow Ally lovers.
Capricorn- I wouldn't be ashamed either. I would probably be to shy to go up and ask him for an autograph though. I would probably just stare at him and try not to drool. thumbsup.gif
Capricorn
Yeah, Mr Rickman is a horse of a different colour. My dad's an historian, so he taught me to see autographs as valuable documents, so I've asked a few important South Africans for their autographs, but I might just pass out if I were in Alan's presence. laugh.gif

I actually bougth Return of the Native to read, so that if I ever came accross that audio book, I would know the story, so I could just listen without having to consentrate on distracting things like the plot!

No only joking tongue.gif , I thougth I'd give Thomas Hardy a go seeing as other people thought it worth the trouble *wink wink nudge nudge*.

Anyway, I'm steeling myself for the remote chance that I do see him during my first ever trip to England! happy.gif Wouldn't that be awesome...
Padfoot08
Don't usually talk like this, It is a little too girly for me, but H*** Yes it would be great to see him on a trip to England!!
wub.gif *sighs and goes into daydream*
Good idea about reading the book first. I will have to go check it out at the library.

Okay . . . I've finally viewed it. Mesmer.

Mesmer the man-a bit over the top, passionate to the point of almost cruelty, a tragic-anti-hero if ever there was one written!

Rickman as Mesmer-absolutely amazing!! He was absolutely perfect in this role. The way he uses his hands in communicating all that Mesmer tried to do with "animal magnitism" was just beautiful.

Be warned, though. This movie does move at a slow pace. It take a bit to get into it. . .and the subject matter is definately mature. If you're a Rickman fan, though, you should see it, if you can.

In other news, I now have both of my copies of Texas, In Demand.
Anyone fancy a copy? Louise, can I make a contest, of sorts to give my extra copy away? Or is that against any VTM rules? Probably should have pmmed that to you. . .sorry.

Padfoot08
*huffs and puffs and puts hand on hips*
I haven't seen it, yet, and am quite mad that I haven't. It looks like such a great movie.

Here's a pic of the movie. Mesmer

Yes, though, this caution was for more than just any reference to sexual content, which there really isn't much of, to be honest. Just be ready to deal with tough subject matter . . .

I have ordered Mesmer, but I don't get it until April. Oh, well, it's worth waiting for. wink.gif

LOL, I'd love a copy of In Demand. laugh.gif wink.gif biggrin.gif

Oh, I saw Alan's new movie "Snow Cake" yesterday!! There was a filmfestival in my city this weekend, and they showed "Snow Cake" yesterday. I won't spoil anything, BUT I will say that I absolutly LOVED that movie. I'm so going to cry if it's not released on dvd. I loved Alan in it, he has most of the screen time in this movie. And I loved Sigorney Weaver in it aswell. She did an outstanding job of portraying an Austistic woman. This movie is a MUST SEE. biggrin.gif

Don't kill me!!! I have to see Snow Cake, I think I'll fade away gradually and vanish eventually if I don't. It looks great from the stuff I've seen. I somehow just trust Alan's judgement when it comes to what films he does, well mostly anyway - just one thing: don't try watching Help! I'm a Fish... blink.gif (Except if you're desperate beyond hope for anything in the video rental shop that's got him in it whistling.gif )

And yeah, if In Demand's up for grabs - count me in! cool.gif

Okay, so here's the deal (feel free to shut me down, Louise, or other mod people): I have an extra copy-from my own bidding folly-of Texas "In Demand" that I'd like to give away to one of you wonderful SOSSers. The challenge is for you to write a limerick (Defined here for your convenience) concerning Alan Rickman including any work he's been a part of (acting, directing, reading, writing, etc.). The person who writes the limerick including the most Alan details will get the CD (it's the enhanced CD, and it's awfully fun)! I was debating whether or not to tell you to pm them to me, but I thought it'd be fun to let everyone read them. What do you guys think? Or would you rather pm them to me and let me post the winner's limerick? Let me konw!!

Hello, has anyone seen Something the Lord Made? Is it good? Does he fake an American accent?
*yuch*
What about An Awfully Big Adventure?Could I see it with my family, or would it be akward? (<--please let me know if I spelled it correctly)

Thanks-
Capricorn
Hey Janet, can we submit more than one? I've thought of a very silly limirick, but I don't know if it's any good blink.gif . What if inspiration strikes unexpectedly? It'd be fun to read everyone else's and try to improve your own one.

Anyway, like you said, I'll wait for Louise to give the go-ahead...

Queen15, though I haven't seen STLM, I have seen Alan do an American accent twice - and I thought he was rather good biggrin.gif He's bound to have to do the accent, seeing as his character is American - come to think of it, I've seen this behind-the-scenes clip on STLM's website here, so you can judge for yourself... happy.gif

Capricorn, your siggy is making me laugh! (I need laughing right now, so thanks!)

I haven't seen Awfully Big Adventure, either, but I don't think it's a "family film" from what I've read of it.

I'm still waiting for the go ahead for the limerick contest-but I'm thinking that you can submit as many as you want, granted that they are the required PG rating (or is it PG-13 now? Can't keep up), within an alotted period of time. I'd let it go on for a week, or so. I'm thinking that PM would be best, so people don't get a chance to cheat, but I think it would be fun for everyone to read them too, so I'm torn. That and I don't want to get too off-topic in the thread-even though they must be Alan-centered . . . So, waiting, waiting, waiting.
Capricorn
You're welcome - my brother and I's collective genius/silliness (oftentimes the same thing sleep.gif ) tongue.gif

Maybe we could pm them to you and then post them here after you've selected a winner... No cheating and all the fun!

I haven't seen it either, yet. I would assume that it is a family movie. I heard he plays Capt. Hook in it.
That is a nice siggie Capricorn. Ingenius. happy.gif
Thank you for the URL too by the way. STLM is such a good movie. I have to watch all the clips this weekend. smile.gif
hmm... A limerick for Alan dear?! I would do it just for fun though. I would not dare enter. I would have to hide it. My mum thinks that I am a freak for liking him. But anyway,.... wacko.gif
