I definitely read carefully, but quickly as well, as I couldn't put the masterpiece down. In total, my actual eyes-on-page time was just under 12 hours. Worth every minute...

my grandma bought me the book two days ago at about noon, and i had to tag along with my mother and her friend driving around the valley, so i could only read in the car, but i finished it last night at about 3AM. but some of it i had to re-read, mostly in the action scenes, mostly because there was so much going on, and it was confusing, because i read really fast.

Well, I am just floored that some/most of you were able to read the book so fast. It took me 33.25 hours to read out of the the first 48 available hours. That is I started reading it about 1am Saturday and finished it at just before midnight Sunday. I didn't do ANYTHING but read, read while eating, take bathroom breaks, and a bit of sleep here and there.

[font=Tahoma] I got the book at 0:01 on saturday morning, read it until 4 in the morning and then went to bed until 6, which i then picked the book up again and read it until about 2.The best book i've ever read in my opinion, a great end to the HP series. I just wish it wasn't the end though. =[

I got the book at around 12:20am at B&N, the line moved pretty quick I think. I didn't start reading it until 10:30am the next morning. I put it off as long as I could. Finished around 2pm Sunday and that was with a lot breaks to drag it out as much as possible. Once it got towards the end maybe when it had about 10 chapters to go then I could not put it down.

Got it on July 21 2007 at 10:00 AM

Read in the car, read at home, went to sleepover, brought book to sleep over, read book at sleepover, slept until 9:00 AM, went home, took shower, ate, read untill 6:03 PM

so i read it in a day and 8 hours.

I got my book at 12:45 AM read 'till 5:00AM, went to a day party that was horrid! Read from 4-9 that day and 1 hour that morning so took me like ten hours and fifteen minniutes. Im reading it again it was all I could do to stop from gasping crying muttering and tellin my friends what was happening...

I was at the midnight release of one of my local bookstores, 3 hours prior to midnight. I got second in line and got the book around 12:01-12:02. I read during the 5 minute car ride home, and immediately set off. I am not a very fast reader, so I read from midnight and stayed up all night, and fell asleep around 3:30 Saturday afternoon, and woke up again at 8:30 PM. I then continued and read until 6:00 AM, and woke up at 10:30, and finished the book at 2 PM, Sunday afternoon, and then set off to celebrate my birthday! biggrin.gif

I got DH at the 12 party at the book store. I didn't get back home till 1, so I started then. I read through the entire night without sleeping.

I finished it finally at 11 am. that's 10 hours. It was amazing...

Of course, Since I didn't sleep the rest of that day, I was awake for 41 hours straight...

Still worth it. happy.gif

Wow...you guys read quick. It took me about 24 hours to finish. I went to the midnight party, got back around one-thirty, two and started reading. At about 7 I gave in to a restless sleep for less then 4 hours and picked it up again. Despite putting the book down to cry after nearly every death, going to the bathroom, and eating dinner, I was able to finish it by about one-thirty the next morning. biggrin.gif
Felix2090
Lets see, I got the book at midnight, got home and read for 2 hours, slept for 6, read on and off all day, slept, and finished it at about noon on Sunday. It took a while. So, in all it took me about 20 hours to finish it. Not bad, considering I thought it would take me a week.
hermiones twin
I defiantly rushed it! I just wanted to get to the end but didnt want to cheat!

I got it at 8.30 in the morning, read solidly until about 10:45am. Started again at 1.30pm and read solidly until about 6.30pm. So thats about what?..7hrs and 15mins.

I have to read it again though to give me a chance to 'digest' it properly!
Fizz the Whizzbee
got it at 12, read until 3. then read from 8:30 til 11:00. then for my half an hour break. then from 6:00 til 9:00, then from 12 til 5:00. then from 9:00 til 11:00, then my half an hour break, then from 5:00 til i finished it at 8:43pm precisely!
gryffindorgirlie
Ok, to understand you have to listen to my testomony of why it took me 103 hours (with breaks/sleep).

The day before the book came out (Friday), I got up at 5:00 IN THE MORNING!!!! to take a 4 hour coach journey, then another 12 hour coach journey from France to Worksop (England). I got home at 9:45 GMT time, then went to que up at midnight, then went without any evening meal, and stayed up till 2:30 IN THE MORNING!

As you can guess, I was very tired. The thing is, I would of pulled an all-nighter, had it not been I had fallen to sleep whilst on page 246. I know i did this because I then woke up with the book on my face.

Anyway, I finshed it about two hours ago, a disgrace to all dedicated fans, which I normally am....... sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

I slogged through the line at books a million and finally got home approx 1 a.m. I immediatly started reading and made it to about 3:45 am before I had to close my eyes. I awoke around 6:30 and began reading again, I ate meals and conversed with my children (not about the book they didn't want it to be spoiled) and finished the book at approx 9:00 p.m. Then I went to see OOTP at the theater with the same children, so I had a really Harry Saturday.
kbproctor
I got the book at about 2 PM. I did not get a chance to start until 4:30 and only got an hour in then. I restarted at 10 PM and got another hour before bed.
The next morning, I got another hour and a half before having to quit once more. I was, after all supposed to be herding Cub Scouts on a campout we took in the Colorado mountains. I got home at about 2 and read until dinner, resumed afterwards and finished about 9. My guess is about 10 hours to read the book. Now I want to go back to book one and start all over and see how things tie together.
DoubleD
I got the book at 9:00 a.m. and did nothing but reading until I finished it at about 2:00 a.m. That makes 17 hours, which is not that bad, I think, considering that I am not a native English speaker.

I bought the book about 12:30am. I read the first two chapters and then went to sleep. I am a mother so when I picked it back up I had to put it down several times. I finally managed to finish it a bout 2:30am after work on Monday night. I am actually surprised it took me so long.
Ginevra
I got it at midnight and read it til 1:30. Then I went to sleep, partly because my mom said to partly to make the book last. The next day I read most of the day until 12:30, when I finished the book. In the, well, about two days that I was reading it, I never put it down. Even when I wasn't reading I carried it around wiht me.
Miranda Kerr
I got it at midnight on thursday night, biked like a demon back home and read until 6 in the morning. Got up at 12, kept reading until I had to go to work at 4, got home at 10:30. Repeated this on Saturday. Sunday I had a day off, so I read all day until 5 In the morning, got up at 11:00 and read until I had to go to work at 5. I finished at 4:15! yesterday! =D

w00t!

I got the book delivered at 9:30 on Saturday morning, read for about an hour and a half, then was quite busy until about 4:00 PM, but I had managed to snatch about an hour in between. I then read from 4:00 'til about 6:30, had my dinner then read again until I went to bed and rea for an hour-ish in bed. Sunday I didn't get that much of a chance to read maybe 2-3 hours, and on Monday I read loads and finished at 3:00 PM.
agos beatle
I took me, as to say much, almost 24 hours...
I got it 9.30 on the following day because we ave a different timezone. I started reading on my way home. I had some things to do, but after that I couldn't get myself apart of the book!
You must know that my mother tongue is Spanish. But I've never read a book in that space of time... I was just too immersed in it to leave it!
Ginny_Hermione
It took me 11 and a half hours. Not counting breaks.

Okay, went to the bookstore at midnight, got home at 1:30 AM. Read for five straight hours untill 6:30 AM. Tried to sleep for three hours. It took me an hour to fall asleep. I was halfway doen with the book by then. Afetr finally falliung asleep, (and Dreaming of Harry Potter) I woke up at 9:30 AM. I read for three more hours until 12:30 PM. I took a half an hour break for food, and at 1:00 PM started reading again. I read for three and a half hours until 4:30, and was finished!!

So there you go, 11 1/2 hours!

I got the book at Midnight.
I wanted to finish it that day, but unfortunately my sports got in the way so it took me a day and a half to read it..
Goes to show what distracts you, huh?
mizzmagik
It took me about 14 hours to read...

All that crying slowed me down =(

Everytime someone died, I sat there for

ages, just crying and remembering them

and how they have helped Harry.

And when I found out whos side Snape was on,

and what Harry had to do to defeat all of the

horcruxes...I could not stop howling into my pillow!

I read it for the 1st time for the whole of Saturday

and the 2nd time on Sunday... I loved it so much I

couldn't put it down!!

hermioneweasly
I started reading it right after I got home at midnight. Then at about 2:30 AM I fell asleep. Then When I woke up(about 1:30 PM, yeah I know, I love sleep) I read it for the rest of the day and finished at about 3:00 AM that night. So about 24 hours. Let me just say that it was a GREAT book and totally worth the money and the hour and a half I had to wait in line for it!! biggrin.gif
white_bumblebee
i started reading it as soon as i got it at midnight, and didnt sleep and read and read all night all morning allday saturday and finished around 7pm on saturday (i was very tired but it was well worth it!) so about 19hrs, yer i know im a pretty slow reader, thats why i sacrificed my nights sleep, otherwise it would have taken until sunday and i couldnt wait that long!
Spencer Potter
About 6 hours or so. It was my cousins so I took turns reading with him. I havent got a chance to get mine yet.. 6 hours of feverish reading!! laugh.gif
Krazeeklutz101
well i unfortunately didn't get the book until the day after around 2 because i was at sleepaway camp. i then however picked it up and read. though i did have to stop alot to see family and friends since i had just gotten home. and since i didn't do anything like stay up all night i finished it this morning as soon as i woke up
Lupin's great
I read the first chapter waiting to be served (went to a restaurant), the the second drinking coffee. A bit on the train. Then back at home I started around 3pm to end about 3h40am, with a break of about one hour. I guess it took between 12 and 13 hours to read it, but English is not my language.
eagleanimagous
It took me one day to read HPDH.
bads1304
I certainly did not rush it. I read each page twice before moving on and it took me, roughly, 18 hours
Yeehaw
6 hours, and I am halfway through re-reading it more slowly...
FleurDelacour
It took me 13 hours to read HPDH.
I statred reading it a 6:30pm and went till 1:00am then i feel asleep for 8 hours then i started reading at 9:00am until 3:30pm! I only stopped briefly to go to the bathroom and every time the phone rang i nearly jumped out of my skin!

The fact that I got it at all this early was a surprise to me, because I needed my sleep to be awake to catch the plane from Berlin (where my grandparents live) with my mom and sister, so getting it at midnight was never considered. (If I'm not awake to point out where our next connection is, we'll never get home!) So while killing time (bad habit) before our 9:30 flight we stopped in a bookstore and got the British children's version. This is only cool to me because I'm American, and don't have any British HP books on my shelf. I'm guessing it was 7:30-8:00 ish.

As soon as we got through security, and the guard who joked about confiscating my book until he saw it was in english, I opened the book. I read for maybe 20 minutes before getting onboard. Then I read until about 6 hours into the flight, at which I finished and handed the book to my little sister. When she got a few pages in, she exclaimed, "Dumbledore died?!?"

At that point I again confiscated the book, and handed it to my mom. My sister is being forced to read all of the books again until she opens DH agian.

When we were picked up at our home airport, roughly 17 hours after our trip had started, I discovered that Mom's friend had given me an american copy. I promptly began to reread it, but put it aside due to lack of sleep. (I can never sleep on those planes.) I have been reading that copy, much more casually than my first reading and am as of now on Chapter 30 in reading no. 2.
Dumbledores Army-united07
i got it at about 12:20 am.
i started reading at about 12:30 am.

i then fell asleep reading at 3:00 am
i woke up 4 hours later at 7am
unfortunatly..i had a full day that sunday.
but i managed to read throught the day when i could.
when i got home i then read all the way through the night without eating and i finished the book at 2:35 am on monday.

so. it took me approxemitly 26 hours and 5 minutes.
i'm not re-reading it a bit more slowly to make sure i catched everything.
UnknownLocket
It took me a day and a half. I just got it on Sunday and finished it half way through yesterday. It was really good and I couldn't put it down. I was up till about 3 in the morning untill I decided that I at least needed some rest because I had to do stuff the next day in the morning. I probably would have finished it that day though if I didn't keep fliping channels and watching shows in between.
ShainaPotter
I got home at about 2 am after getting my copy at walmart, then I told my family goodnight and holed up in my bedroom and fell asleep at about 6:30 am and woke up at about 11 am and continued reading until 9:00 pm. But my father made me read the last four chapters aloud, so that took longer than I expected, so all in all, about 15 hours. Well worth the lack of sleep though.
belle_316
It took me about just under two days to read it. But i took lenghtly breaks in between as my mom wanted to watch two DVD's with me. Plus i had to eat, drink, sleep and all the other things i had to do. My cousin's girlfriend took about a day to read it. She got the book early in the morning and did nothing else for the rest of the day.
GreenGred
I got it at roughly 12:20 am on th 21st and had to drive a friend home so she read it aloud to me and then I got home at about 1:15 am and read through the night breaking to er use the restroom and several times to collect myself because I couldn't read though the tears. I finished at about 8 am so I think it took me around 6 and a half hours to finish. But I didn't feel rushed at all and I am already re-reading but at a slower pace to pick up the minor things I missed.
Moon(I luv you Luna)
I started reading when i got in the car to go home which my sister timed at 11:09am NZ time.I read for 12 hours straight. I was forced to stop by my mum to have dinner at about 7, and didn't finsih it until quater to 11 that night.

Then at 2 i got a text off my friend saying that she had finished it. Haha.

But yeah, basically, whenever i was interupted i'd yell at them. After a while, people learned to stay away, but it took forever ... happy.gif

Hmmm....::considers:: Well, my mom went and picked it up for me at the Meijer's release party Friday night (that I REALLY wanted to go to T_T, but I couldn't because my friend had a set up a sleepover with a bunch of our friends and a swimming party-thing the next day), and I came home a little before 4 on Saturday, starting reading it immediately, read nonstop until 4 Sunday morning, when I had to go to bed cuz I had to go to church the next morning, got up at 9:30, got ready for church and went and such, got home not exactly sure when, and then finished it in about two hours...so all in all, it took me 14 hours to read the book; less than a day. Yay. happy.gif

Let's see... 2 hours Saturday from 1:30 am to 3:30 am CST. then Saturday evneing for 3 hours and then Sunday for 3 hours and then Monday for 3 hours and 2 hours Tuesday evening. I guess 4 days and 13 hours. Started again last night. Great book and look forward to reading them all over and over again.
Mrs. Radcliffe
I had to play netball that day but luckily I still managed to finish it on the 21st! Reading is for the second time now, and it's still getting more awesome by the page!
hpfreakeslover
Well..... I ran down my driveway (mind you it's a HUGE hill!!) grabbed my book out of the mail box and ran all the way back up my driveway. It took me two days to read the book. That's the fastest I have ever read any Harry Potter book (exept 1,2 and 3 but that was years ago) It was a really good book. I think it was the best.

My favorite parts of the book were Kreatcher's story which was very good. The end when Voldemort died was also really good!! I liked how he and Harry talked before his curse backfired and killed him. I also really liked the epilogue. That was cool that JKR wrote about what happened after Hogwarts. I just loved the book!!
greeneyed77
Let me see.... I think I started reading around 2:00 pm on 7/21.07, and finished around 2:00 the next night, so, about a day and a half! lol! I would've finished it sooner, but I had my nieces over biggrin.gif , and my attention had to be focused elsewhere at the same time blink.gif !!! lol! I'm rereading it now wub.gif , and I'm taking my time to make sure I get missed details!!! it was a really good read!!!! biggrin.gif
xxxamyxxx
I got it at 9:00 saturday morning but i had to go work so i couldnt read any till about 2:30 then i read for 1 hour and dint read again till 6:00 for about 5 hours. On sunday i read 6:00pm- 2:00am then on monday i read about 6:30- 10:00 so whats that about 17 1/2 hours?

I usually read quicker but i had to keep reading random pages to my brother mad.gif
sumtingwong?
I was lucky to be able to secure a copy even without a reservation the morning it came out at around 11 am, as I was vacationing out of state. Naturally, I didn't have much free time to read as I was out with my friends and we went to the mall then to play some basketball and also to go out and eat twice for lunch and dinner. I managed to finish it over two days in what I would guess was 7 hours of pure reading if you add it up, and I consider myself to be an average speed reader compared to the rest of my classmates, although the anticipation and the simple fact that it was Harry Potter might have pushed me to increase my pace! And of course I had to re-read it afterwards. smile.gif
Jennah
I pre-ordered the book online, so it was delivered to my house around noon. I began reading it instantly and I didn't stop...I stopped a few to=imes to pee, and once to eat "dinner" (aka. i ate 2 carrots up in my roon while reading) i read until 4:30am... so that puts me at about 16 hours or reading when you take away bathroom and crying breaks. So after I finished it at 4:30...I went to bed for a few hours, woke up at 8 and read it again. Now, I'm reading it outloud to my sister.
HP number one Fan
.........Am I the only one who didn't finish it on the day it came out? shy.gif

Yes?...Ok. Well I'm a slow reader anyway and I had so many interuptions. I didn't actually get my hands on the book until the afternoon of the 21st so I suppose that counts for something. So I finished it in about 3 1/2 days. I thinks thats how long it took me for the pervious two as well. I just can't stay up all night I love my sleep haha laugh.gif I feel kind of guilty that I didn't finish it in a few hours but never mind. I also wanted to book to last which is why it too me longer but I rushed the end...now im off to re-read it! biggrin.gif
