I hope that they use this as a key moment in the film. Use loads of special eeffects and make it a proper battle, unlike the one in OOTP film, which i think they failed to deliver on.
HarryPotter_28
i think the battle of hogwarts was really good in the book, and hope that the film reflects this. but one thing let the book down, the ending, ' the scar had never pained harry in 19 years, all was well' i thought that was pretty feeble. but apart from tht the book was excellent. what was your favourite bit in the book?
X-Girl
I too thought the Battle of Hogwarts was really good, especially the end bit where Harry is under the cloak watching.

Well actually it was in two bits. Where Harry is going after the diadem and then when he kills Voldemort.

I think in the movie it will either be really good or really bad. They could make Fred's death really sad too. And I hope they include the House Elves with the knives. I've given up on Peeves but you've got to love his song.

We did it we bashed them, wee Potter's the one
And Voldy's gone moldy so let's have some fun.

I cannot Wait to See Harry & Voldemorts Big Showdown on Big Screen!

I Thought Voldemort Looks Really Good! Better Than i Imagined!

Can't Wait to See His face When Harry Takes His Wand ha ha!

Best Bit In that Book Was when Harry Gave His Speech To Voldy! Cutting Acroos the Dark Lord And Everything!

Brilliant!

This could be such a great movie. This book above all others should have the best adaptation to the big screen. That is, if they decide to extend the length of the movie over the usual 2 and a half hours. This is many years away though, and I will be happy just to see it make it to the theater.

My favorite instant in the book was when Harry removed himself from the cloak and yelled "Crucio!" followed by "I see what Bellatrix meant, you need to really mean it." Not only did he show loyalty to McGonagall, a favorite character of mine, but he also showed another side to his character.

I wasn't pleased with the 19 years later bit. I could have done without it, but the rest of the book was amazing.
Seriouslysirius
Oh this will be a hard but amazing secne to film. Just iamgine how myuch special effects and supporting cast they will need. It hurts thinking about it. laugh.gif

Every but of it will be needed. So hopefully they don't cut to much of it. If they do there will be outrage. laugh.gif

I agree The Harry Voldemort moment will have to be nearly word to word. I can't wait to see that on screen!!
Lauren0891
The Battle of Hogwarts is my favourite part in the book and I think it's going to be really hard to recreate on screen! I hope they do it justice though - if they don't I will cry eeek.gif

It is the last epic battle scene in the series and the climax to the entire Harry Potter saga. If they mess it up it will be terrible.

I cannot wait to see this scene though. The movie is years away - but I really can't wait to see the Battle of Hogwarts!

twiggysun
The chapter is really good indeed. Lots of things happening, full of action. It's perfect movie material.
I do think this book is going to be a hard one to film. They fall from one thing into another.

It's really going to be hard to make sure the movie is good for kids to see. It's really bloody and scary at some points, but they can't cut that because that is what the book is all about... I wonder how they are going to make it work?

Off course I don't need to worry about not being able to see it because I'm over 18 already... but it would be sad that soe kids would have to wait longer to see it
bobafettish
Definately the best part of the book. I hope they show Sprout throwing the Mandrakes, I think it was. Made me laugh. The death's could be sad, and I hope they do Neville justice when he kills Nagini
SlytherinHeadGirl05
I just posted in the other topic that is in the HP:DH forum but if you're asking for my favorite part, it is DEFINITELY the Hogwarts Battle!!!! Anyone else's heart pounding as if they were running through the corridors and down the halls with Harry in search for Ron and Hermione? I was completely exhilirated, I literally screamed everytime someone called me to do something and I was in the middle of a paragraph!! blink.gif Anyways this is going to be MAJORLY hard to do, cuz look at what they said about Dobby for OotP. They had to do it for finance reasons, not having enough for the CG, which i know is HIGHLY expensive. But if they don't dish it ALL OUT, I don't think this movie is going to be as good as it should be. I'm ecstatic and can't wait to see the last two books on film, but after OotP's little well let down, I'm kind of cautious now.

I know this is off topic, but did anyone else cry? I cried a bit but when Harry peaked inside the Great Hall and in the book described the scene with the Weasley's (ESPECIALLY george and mrs weasley @ fred's body) i started sobbing out right then and there.

I was a bit well put down on the ending, the epilogue chapter. I mean i was completely happy at the fact Ron and Hermione got together and had kids, along with Ginny and Harry of course, but I was kind of let down by JK's promise. She did an epilogue yes, but we have no idea what happened to anyone else?!?!? We don't know what happened to the Weasleys, don't know what happened to Luna, to any of his fellow classmates. I'm not complaining just pointing out, Jk said she didn't want anyone picking up her story later on in lfe. Well they can. They can pick up where she ended it with the kids all going to Hogwarts or stories of the other characters. *shrugs* maybe it was just me....but i was hoping to find out what harry, ginny, ron and hermione did with their lives and this is bugging me....

Who the heck is Victorie?!?!?!? wacko.gif James says that he went on the train and found Lupin and Tonks son kissing her, his cousn. Can anyone guess who she is?!? Probably no one knows who she is, but can you guys take a guess? when he said cousin i thought...maybe one of the other weasleys?

Oh god and I just realized, Harry is technically related to Salazar Slytherin o.o!!! *just remembered* @.@
bobafettish
In response to the off-topic question, i only cried when Harry and the dead Lupin spoke about his kid....it just upset me sad.gif
Chrissiep
There is really no way that the producers of this film will be able to cut any of that battle, perhaps not go into huge detail, but it is a critical part in the movie, the effect that Voldemort can no longer hurt anyone, that Harry finally denouces Voldemorts power and overtakes him, it's just so deep and meaningful.
I am beyond words at how much I loved this book and particulary that part.

Amyrat151
For all my complants about the book, I did love Harry's Prophecy Girl-esce [season finale of Buffy the vampire slayer's first season] return from the dead, plus the Graduation Day-like[last ep of Buffy's thrid season] battle, the whole school fighting. And Harry's conversation with Voldermort...I won't talk more about Buffy, but I could go on forever about how much they're alike.
I think that with right director it will be awsome, but they need to right director, cause if they mess it up...
laughingirl_92
I loved that part of the book!!! It was increideble! I could imagine it in my head. Honestly I can't wait for the movie to come out!If they cut that out I'll sue.I hope they can actually make it a decent scene. The book ROCKED!

Who the heck is Victorie?!?!?!?

I read a review online that said Victorie was Bill and Fleur's daughter. It makes sense because -

"Oh, it would be lovely if they got married!" whispered Lily ecstatically. "Teddy would really be part of the family then!"

I loved the battle at Hogwarts. It was perfect, I hope they don't cut out the part when Harry is invisble and standing between the two big fights. And they stick to the lines of Harry's speech to Voldemort, which was amazing. Oh, I hope we see the giants fighting, that would be a really cool scene. If they butcher the last battle, I will be really sad and mad.

I think that the Battle of Hogwarts was fabulous. It was so detailed and I was able to visualize it in my mind the entire time. I hope that the final movie makes a show of it and includes as much as possible. But the directors have a lot to put in the last film. They might as well spurge and make a four hour movie and make it good. haha.

And yeah, I also heard that Victorie was Bill and Fleur's daughter. It would be romantic if she married Teddy. ha
lindchar
I liked the epilogue, I think it did round things off nicely in a way. However, it didn't really tell us much about what happened to most of the other characters.

Allegedly she might put together a sort of Harry Potter encyclopedia, so we might know then...

The battle between harry and Voldemort was awesome.. happy.gif I can't wait to see it in the moviesss and the kiss of harry/ginny(sorry tongue.gif i like them) smile.gif and all the book!!

When the book started and told about tonks and remus had just married I just shout and run all aound my house: THEY'RE MARRIED!!!!( rolleyes.gif wub.gif wub.gif ) and when he announced that he was going to be a father make me another go for running and shouting: THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE A BABY!! and when Remus was showing them a photo of their baby I was soo happy, but when I read that they were dead I cry sad.gif sad.gif It's just unfair!!! What would happen with their baby??Their little Ted?? and when Remus ghost said to harry that he won't be able to see his baby grow up... It's just horrible Buahaha sad.gif sad.gif

I also cried when Hedwig died, she was a wonderful owl, she don't deserve to died sad.gif

And when Fred died!!!! It's just sad to hear that many close friends of harry died

There are many things and questions around the book that need to be solve like:who's the wife of draco?? who raised ted lupin?? what happened after the battle did harry and the other finished their N.E.W.T.S?? Did Harry make it as an auror?? How old are the new generation??(harry and ron's son) and many questions....

It's a great book!!Thank U J.K.Rowling!!

Mod Post: Can I just remind you that this forum is to discuss what you want in the movie of The Deathly Hallows, in particular The Battle of Hogwarts and how this will come across on the big screen.

If you want to talk about the book, you can do that in the Deathly Hallows book forum which can be found here.

Thanks, let's keep things on topic.

Yes I was really disappointed with the fight at the end of the OoTP movie. I also hope they keep it together as much as possible. Make it on a grand scale like the battles in Braveheart.
hermiones twin
if they don't do the Hogwarts battle justice, then I will......

I think they should've made the battle in OOTP more important, particulally the bit before LV and DD. They better do it pretty much perfect this time!!

[font=Comic Sans Ms][size=2] I hope the film of deathly hallows will have the battle of hogwarts cause thats the best battle in the whole series!!!! biggrin.gif

I'm really happy that Harry ends up with Ginny and Hermione ends up with Ron wub.gif wub.gif.

I think that Victorie is Bill and Fleurs daughter cause Lily said the " Oh, it would be lovely if they got married!" whispered Lily ecstatically. "Teddy would really be part of the family then!" smile.gif

In a way I'm really worried about Harry Potter and the deathly hallows as a film.
I thought the book was amazing and I think; how on earth can they do it justice?!!
I really hope they keep in aaaall the stuff about Snape...that made me cry- I was chuffed- he's been my fave from the start... partly due to my alan rickman obsession he strengthened the amazingness of snape. wub.gif

The battle of Hogwarts was great to read, I hope in the film they make a big thing out of it- because it was, the house elves made me laugh "FIGHT!" -Kreacher is wonderful.

The Malfoy's I hope will be represented accurately in the film, their sense of family was really sweet to read, nice that they were made 'human'- better do that well in the film i think.

Such a good book...so much in it...it's almost as if they need TWO films made! haha. Or it'll have to be a 3hr job anyway!!

PS. "Victoire" is clearly Fleur & Bill's!! It's a French name, Fleur is French- and Victoire being Little James' cousin. Confused me at first too! Ha.

I believe that this is a must-be in the film...
I cannot imagine the film without Voldemort's and Harry's speech, or the one between Harry and Dumbledore, which I found exquisite...
I hope they do not cut it, because it could turn all the story down, don't you think?

Yeah! me too!
I think that is the crucial part to understand the 7 books, to know that everything was the other way round, and that Harry had to die...

Yeah, in my opinion Victoire is Bill's daughter with Fleur, but she must be in the last years at Hogwarts... because Ted, Lupin's son, has left already and went there to see her off...
So they must be grown-ups...

Movie 5, Dumbledore and Voldemort: AMAZING. Now they have to follow up on that and make it 20 times better. Id love to make it dramatic, sad and exhilerating!
Krazeeklutz101
i cannot wait to see the final battle between voldemort and harry.... i also cant wait to see neville finally step up and kill the snake... also i was a bit confused when harry went into the pensieve in the last few pages so i cant wait to see how that is played out either
Dumbledores Army-united07
well. i absolutely LOVED the last battle.
i thought it was amazing!

like many of you said i wish that they do it better then the one that was in ootp.
but.... if its david yates then i expect nothing more then the battle in ootp.

but my favorite part. was of course the last battle.
but also the moment between harry and snape.

it made me cry.

but. thats a whole other discussion.

but. if the directors and producers film it correctly and make it dramatic then it should be great!

i cant wait!

Maybe we'll even get to see the death of that werewolf up close and personal--that's a moment the fans really want. At the same time, I was disappointed about Hagrid's little friends. Partially because they're like Slytherins--who's dumb enough to keep them around? And partially cuz I'm terrified of spiders and don't want to see them in the movie.

I read Sunday night till 5:00 am, then last night (rather this morning) I finished at 3:00 am. I was a bit impatient when they were in hiding and it was a little slow at some of those parts, but I thought the book was really incredible over all, especially the last 1/2.

There were several scenes that I just loved. I was almost in tears to read that Harry was a horcrux and had to die! Wow, the emotions when he walked into the forest with the four to just let V kill him. It was very moving. Then the Kings Cross scene was fabulous, especially Dumbledore's apology and admitting his weaknesses and selfishness. I cheered when Neville pulled the sword out of the hat and killed the snake! That was great! I was glad that he Ron and Hermione and Mrs. Weasley all did important things and that Harry didn't do it all. Then the part in the Great Hall with the final duel was just amazing. Harry was confident and smart and knew he would win and even gave LV one last chance for remorse. The twist with the Elder wand was GREAT! And the fact that it was all so public and yet it came down to just the two of them.

Snape's death was really sad. Even though I hated him, I hoped and hoped he would end up being on the right side. (I could not believe that Dumbledore could have made such a huge mistake.) I was not sure until the snake killed him then I pretty much knew. I thought it was great how Harry honored him in the epilogue, by naming his son after him telling his son that the bravest man he ever knew was a Slytherin.

Kreacher turning into a nice elf was great too, and Dobby dying very sad after saving everyone's life.

Yes, the epilogue was a bit sugary, but I was glad she did that to show us that Harry really DID conquer LV and everyone was well and happy and living a normal life. (I did wish she would have told us what the all did for a living though.)

I read so fast I might have missed something, but I don't think Draco did anything to redeem himsel. But perhaps he was reprieved from punishment because of what his mother did. After all, she saved Harry's life and that allowed him to kill V later. (Also, he was young and hopefully repented of following evil?)

There were so many twists and turns and loose ends that were tied up in this book. Amazing how JKR used things from the all the previous books and everything fit together. I found it very entertaining and was completely submerged into her magical world with this and all the previous books.

Congratulations and THANKS to you JKR for this entertaining and moving series. And THANK you especially for sparing Harry, Ron and Hermioine (and most of the Weasleys!) and for letting good triumph over evil, and for having characters who were not perfect, but yet showed the importance of forgiveness, friendship, commitment, love, and self-sacrifice.

In the chapter the Malfoy Manor, Draco shows a great reluctance as to revealing the trio's identity to his parents and the death eaters, this shows his unwillingness to be a part of all the bad.
Also in the '19 years later', Draco's 'curt nod', his acknowledgement of Harry, Ron and Hermione shows he has grown out of his old ways- however notice that little Scorpius is a pureblood- so this still seems to be important to him! ha.
I feel the whole idea of the Malfoy's by the end was that they learned the greater importance of their family as opposed to their pureblooded pride.
I think the Malfoy's were generally reprieved, well Lucius' still a pretty selfish man eg; his excitement at possibly catching Harry, however it is all in the name of keeping his family safe.
Bless 'em, I really hope they do this fully in the film; would only be fair!

I am certain the battle scene will be an extravaganza on the screen - the risk is that it may come out too over the top. I personally hope the director will intersperse the very quiet atmosphere of H's final conversation with DD with chaotic battle sequences - this could be very effective.
My two teenagers and I all loved book 7, but we had different views on the 19 years later coda, sort of like the Three Bears:
I found it a little too "hot" - maudlin and predictable; my son found it "cold" - dismissively concise; my daughter thought it was just right.
The demise that hurt me most, strangely, was Dobby's, even though it was terribly Gunga Din, faithful servant dies free and all. I think JKR was right to knock off a few important characters, it was war.
For the record, I had an inking that Snape was or had been in love with Lily - he always only insulted James.
Bye for now.
kIrStIe
I also hope that The Battle Of Hogwarts has some really good effects, it should be very interesting to watch. To be honest i actually thought that the one in OOTP was really good, and they did it extremley wel. smile.gif
taterchris
I want this scene put in!!! It was the biggest part of the book, the biggest part of all the books! Just think, it really sums up the books to put in the final epic Hogwarts rebellion against Voldemort and the Death Eaters. And hopefully there will be many special effects too, just to improve on the OotP battle.
baz
I got a chill when that careening cry signalled the start of the battle. I hope they do a big areal view of everyone fighting in the ground and in the school...anyone else get shivers? They could do so much with this scene! And, maybe, they might even throw in the deaths of a coulple of characters that we didn't read due to HP's whereabouts? *COUGHLupinCOUGHTonksCOUGHwhy?!Howcouldshe?!?!COUGH*.

Just to reiterate, I hope they can capture the tension just before the battle that gives me those cool chills...especially when Hagrid just states it's beginning...WOAH!
HPFan792
That without a question was in my opinion the best battle in all the books. I really hope they do their best to make it look really good. It was one of the most important and exciting parts in the book. I was a little disappointed with the fight scene in the ministry so I hope that they make this scene better.
Moon(I luv you Luna)
I think this is pabsically the climax of the entire series-it has to be good and the movie people will recognise this. I'm hoping that it'll be full of action (And not put people to sleep coughtheootpbattlecough). The actions will need to pull out all the stops for this one. If it's anything less than perfect ... laugh.gif

I'm a perfectionest. So sue me.

There's no way it'll be cut-it's the most important part of the series. Well, in my opinion anyway. happy.gif

They will have to be sure to make the battle in DH very different to the fight at the end of HBP!! Both are very exciting and very different, they will have to make sure that the atmospheres are fitting- HBP battle is shocking and quite quick concentrating on Dumbledore's death, whereas DH's battle of Hogwarts is long and scary! They will have to be careful not to be repetitive and make the battles boring!

The last bit of the movie should take like half an hour atleast, and i don't mine the film being 3hrs long as long as the plot make sense and the movie is good.

the battle scene is probably the biggest scene there is in Harry Potter series, so it would be wise for director to concentrate on that
No.1_HarryPotterFan
They have to make the battle scene awesome! I think there's no way they can cut any of it out! They better not mess it up, like the OOTP battle. That was not done well at all. So that's what I think. I also think it could be a half hour or more if it's done right.
HUFFLESLYTHERAVENDOR
ok, this is the one of two scenes i want to see! while reading this book, i imagined every detail in my head asthought i was directing the film. what happened in myhead would be cool as if it would happin in the movie! its very amazing and i give my luck tothe director
Mrs.FredWeasley
the battle in hogwarts was really good (the way JKR described it), but its sad because my freddie dies.....*sobs*. i hope they fix that part so fred doesnt die. i dont care about how much JKR argues with them.
xxkrakenslayerxx
Hopefully the Final Battle will be better than the OOtP battle
but then again in the battle in the department of Mysteries, almost half of the people that were battling were teenagers, so they didn't really know much advanced magic that would have called for better special effects
like the battle between Dumbledore and Voldemort.

The Final Battle should have better effets because there are more adult wizards who know more magic that'll call for special effects (:
Breanna_Justine_Potter
Oooh!!!! This was my favorite part, well..except for when they rode on a dragon. lol. That was so cool!!! Yeah anyways, I loved the Battle of Hogwarts!!! Especially when Harry is walking down to LV's lair after he found out he needed to die because he was a horcrux. That was so sad!!! I love it, but it was sad, then when he sees his parents, Sirius, and Lupin with the stone. It is so intense, and I hope they portray it well. Then when Harry and LV are about to duel, and Harry was talking to him. It was such a good scene, I hope they don't change much, if anything!!

I don't care if the movie is long!! I just want it to be good!!! I want it to do the book justice!! Ootp's scene at the MoM was okay, but the scene wasn't at all how I imagined it to be from reading the book.

*Breanna*

This part from the book was really great and i do hope that they make a good fight sequence on the movie. I liked more the part after Harry goes into Snape's memories and goes after Voldemort and he is able to see his parents and Sirius and Lupin and they accompany him until he finds Voldemort. Also the speech that Harry gave Voldy before taking his wand. I just hope that they dont try to cut this from the movie cuz every detail makes these scene more interesting.
fred&georgegirl
I thought the battle of Hogwarts was brilliant untill Fred died. I was a bit confused though huh.gif

Did Fred die because the wall exploded???????

But when Fred died I was really shocked coz it seemed like such a happy time with no deaths mentioned them BAM! not even a killing curse and one of the main characters dead???

And then when there were 50 others in the hall???

What the hell????

I thought Hogewarts was winning and I thought people wood die but 50!!!!

clarisa
I can't wait to see the battle of hogwarts in the movie. It should be spectacular! I hope they don't cut too much out. But I agree with Eslipa my favourite bit was in Severus's memory and the bit afterwards.
freddylove
I agree about the OoTP fight in the Department of Mysteries among the Order and Death Eaters weren't as intense as I thought to be. Too little action. But I do hope The Battle Of Hogwarts will be really big and really intense, because it's the important part of the movie, and personally, I would love to see that everyone unites to fight against the evil.
tonksnlupin4eva18
WELL I THINK THAT THAT WAS LIKE THE BEST PART OF THE BOOK EXCEPT FRED DIED CRIES

yea anyways yea ummm.... where was i oh yea fred i couldnt believe it i was like about to cry *actually i did* but i am so sad wah wah wah shocking.gif shocking.gif shocking.gif shocking.gif shocking.gif
iluvviktorkrum
The battle at hogwarts will be AWESOME!!!! i cant wait for that scene. i really hope they put time and effort into that scene the most. because that is when all the charaters come together and fight. how cool will that be. i again hope they bring back some of the cast to fight. not judt the orignal. the detail that i hope is in the movie is when tralawney throws her crystal balls at the death eaters!! really funny
