Here's your chance to jump for joy or to nash your teeth over the snippet that was: The Epilogue. What did you think of it? Was it well handled? Were you satisfied in its berevity? Were you hoping for more? Who do you wish had been included? Do you wish it hadn't been included at all? We have another thread for plot-wise questions, so please only use this thread to discuss your feelings on the EPILOGUE portion of the book. All other unanswered questions should be placed in the other thread for unanswered questions.

I feel safest talking about this topic because I'm not quite ready to put my views on any of the topics in print yet!

I thought the epilogue was nice, light-hearted, and . . .too short. There were so many other people I was wishing to hear about; much less I was wishing to know what the heck Harry ended up doing! Did he ever finish his schooling? I mean, what kinds of jobs can he get if he didn't finish? I mean, he's got to be a pretty desirable employee. . .maybe they gave him Gringott's full of money and he lived happily for the rest of his life. But where? Id he living in Grimmauld place? Near the Burrow? 4 Privet Drive? And why do he and Ron need driver's liscences? Does that represent the continued effort to live harmoniously with muggles? Is that a sign that they are integrating themselves better into muggle society? What happened to the Dursleys? Did they come home? Did Harry form a better relationship with Dudly? What happened to George? Did he and Lee continue to run the joke shop without Fred? Did George lose all of his joy? WHAT HAPPENED TO GEORGE?! Ahem. So. . .I found the epilogue lacking. I'm glad it was present, but I wish there'd been more.
PotterPeep
I was kind of mad, Jk made it sound like she was going to explain what all the survivors were doing. Alls we really found out was that Ron and Hermione/Harry and Ginny got married and had kids. I was expecting more, I guess.
crawford_todd
I was seriously upset as well. I thought we would get a full chapter on how the relationships played out at the end of the book. Echoing what was said above, all we find out is that Harry respects Snape now, can tolerate Draco and that there was a bunch of kids. In short, I felt it was much much too short.
Voyager
I was hoping to find out what happened to Luna and George and who Draco was married to, but as I still like the sweet and short ending to the book; I think I prefer that to something that was over ten pages long that explained everything that happened over the last 19 years. It soemtimes nice to make up you're own descisions on what happened to the other characters.

I guess that Luna had taken over the Quibbler and that George was still running his joke shop because he knew Fread would want that. I'm also guessing Draco married Pansy, but I'm not sure.
Felix2090
I really thought it was too short. Who did Draco Malfoy marry? What did Harry do for a living? Where did everyone live? I was hoping for a little more of a regular chapter instead of about five pages. However, It ended like it should have, Harry is with Ginny, and Ron is with Hermione.
JellyBelly
I was pretty disappointed with how the epilogue was put out. I really was expecting more out of it. I was really wanting to know what happened to George after Fred died. Also, it would have been interesting to actually know who Draco's wife was, Pansy? I am glad that Harry ended up marrying Ginny, and same with Ron and Hermione, it is exactly what I was hoping for at the end. To sum it all up, I thought it was good, but should have told us a lot more then what it did.

I really liked the Epilogue, even though it was lacking some information I wanted to know about the others. George-- I especially wanted to know what happened with him. My guess is that he and possibly Lee Jordan started the jokeshop up again. And also, what about Luna, Dean, Draco, Hagrid, and the rest! What was Harry's and Ginny's jobs? Hermione and Ron? What did they do for a living? How long was it until all of them got married? I guess JKR left this open so we could guess...

I agree that it was lighthearted and I was glad to see that it seemed everyone was happy. I was especially glad that Harry and Ginny and Ron and Hermione got married, even though I knew it was going to happen. It was nice to see it on paper though.

Some of my Potter friends thought that the ending was cheesy, but I think that that was a good thing. After all that happened in the war, cheesy was good.

I was just glad that Harry, Hermione, Ron, and Ginny all made it out together and lived, somewhat, happily ever after.
Lauren0891
Too short. Way too short.

I though it was... mediocre. I thought that considering it was the end to ten years it was a pretty bad way to end it. I did like the last line though:

QUOTE
The scar had not pained Harry for nineteen years. All was well.

I thought that was a good way to end it.

But I wished that she could have included much more about the other characters. The only other characters mention apart from the trio and Ginny were Draco and Neville. It would have been nice to know what happens to all of them.

I thought it was a bit of a let down, a poor end to a brilliant book. I thought it was a bit soppy and not like JKR usual brilliant writing.
Nimbus
I thought the epilogue was alright, but it definitely left something to be desired. It almost seemed as if it was just huredly written down. Other than the names of the children, there wasn't much divulged that we couldn't have already have guessed. I mean, she had already all but came right out and told us Harry and Ginny and Ron and Hermione were going to be together, so there was really no surprise there. I wish it would have been longer (of course) and given information on my characters.
owl
I really liked that it was nineteen (not simply twenty) years later and I liked the idea that it is September 1 and people are on their way to King's Cross and meet each other.

I didn't imagine it to be a scene, but I thought it would simply be a number of paragraphs, each describing one person's continued story (but I prefer the King's Cross scene...)

As everyone else I had hoped that there would be more information - where people live (especially the three main characters plus Ginny), which jobs they have and what became of all the other characters - George, Kreacher, Umbridge, Dean, Seamus, Luna, the Dursleys, McGonagall etc.

[I also would have liked to read about how they rebuilt Hogwarts and how they restructured the Ministry of Magic; though this rather would have been in a further chapter than in the Epilogue.]
twiggysun
I'm a succer for romance so I quite liked the epilogue... but I too wished there had been more of it. I was glad that Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione ended up together but I really would like to know about the others...

But it is a nice ending to a fabulous book
Insomnia
Well, I have to agree with most people on here. It was way too short without enough information. JKR had said that there would be some unanswered questions she would leave for our imagination, but I never imagined that there would be THAT much left unsaid.

I'm guessing that Luna and Dean ended up together because they held hands as they raced off to battle.

I'm guessing that Neville was the only one to become a teacher because he was the only one mentioned. I would have thought some others would have become a teacher as well.

I would love to have known what the trio ended up doing after LV's reign was over. Seeing as how Ron got a driver's license, he's trying to live among the muggles, possibly close to Hermione's parents house.

There's soo many other things that I would have like to have known about the aftermath. So, yes the epilogue is seriously lacking leaving way to many holes for our imagination. I just feel like JKR left us wanting more instead of a true final ending.

Don't get me wrong, I loved knowing about Harry/ Ginny and Ron/Hermione and their kids. Also Draco and his family. That scene was great! Just too bad there wasn't more.
Jacobi
I strongly disliked the Epilogue. For me, it really ruined the ending. I was hoping that she would leave off on a more mysterious note, or at least more of a punchline-type deal, as opposed to this weak "happily ever after" style ending where they got married and had kids.

beyond_the_veil
Ah the epilogue-i have to say i hated it unsure.gif Not just because it was cheesy and too much like One Big Happy Weasley Family pinch.gif but because all it told us was who married who and what their kids names were. Oh and that Neville is Herbology Professor at Hogwarts.

I wanted to know what happened to George and Weasley's Wizard Wheezes(hey maybe he got Percy to join him wink.gif ) and how the wizarding world was and stuff like that.

I was not amused tongue.gif
marrymerupert
I actually quite enjoyed the epilogue. Sure it may have been a little corny, but after a dark book like that it was kind of nice to leave it on a light note. I liked it because i was a Hr/R, H/G shipper... and i cried when we found out that harrys son was named Albu Severus. I have always been a Snape fan and have been in so many debates trying to convince people he is good, and I'm so happy that Harry finally got over his hate for him and did him the great honour of naming his child after him. I thought it was so nice.

On another note - I think Ron got his license to bring the kids to Kings Cross. He says something like "Did you park okay" and then starts talking about how he confunded the driver... I think he got it because they needed a way there... i'm not too sure. Plus Hermione probably convinced him, because shes like that and would want the best of both worlds lol.

All in all I thought it was good - could have been longer but I liked it.

The epilogue is about things happening on September 1, 2007. Thus, I feel we will hear more from Jo Rowling on that day. Perhaps then we can ask what we want to ask about other characters?
Anyway, I like how Jo Rowling uses the thick fog to cover everybody else. As we heard Percy's voice, we would expect the other Weasleys to be there already as well. Ron would have been coming with them. However, with the age different of the parents, most likely their children are much older than Albus Potter and Rose Weasley. These two children need constant attention from Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione, because it's the first time they will leave home. On the other hand, James Potter apparently has gone to greet all his Weasley cousins, although he came back only to give rapport about Ted Lupin and Victoire Weasley.
If Victoire is there, presumably Bill and Fleur are present (if Victoire indeed is their children). As neither Ginny and Hermione actually like Fleur that much, none of them will want to see her now. Maybe later as the train has departed and the fog disappears.
(It's a clever plot to pair the son of a werewolf with the daughter of a victim of a werewolf.)
Arthur and Molly were most definitely not there, otherwise all the grandchildren will already greet them. They don't have to be there anyway. Molly might be busy with younger grandchildren? Arthur may be busy with his work as he is most likely now a high-rank official of the Ministry. George and Charlie may have their own peers to talk to. It's possible that Charlie may still work abroad, so his child(ren) may not go to Hogwarts. George may meet Lee Jordan and his family, instead of going around with Ron. Neville stays at Hogwarts. Luna, hmm, we would never know what she is doing. She is unlike the others.
Great epilogue, nonetheless.

This is going to be hard without saying what I missed knowing about the story, but here goes:

The epilogue, although a great idea, was not developed well enough. I think a reunion of the Order on the 20th anniversary of LV's death with the DA invited as well would have been a better epilogue and would potentially have answered MANY more of the unanswered questions about what happened to people.

I felt like I was reading a different book in the epilogue, with new characters I knew nothing of mixed in with some old favorites. I wanted to "see" all the favorite students and Order members, and know that they were happy and had moved on, and I wanted to know how.

It was too short, and although I know that it had been written for a long time, it seemed rushed... trying to get it all over with quickly. Too many of the people that we have grown to love were left out, and not enough information was given about the ones that we did see.

I think that she should have left the last word "scar," no matter what the sentence was... I found "All was well," to be really lame after all we've "been through!"

More than any other criticism of the novel or the epilogue, I agree.

I am very disappointed with the epilogue in general, though. It was too short, it was too cheesy, it was too sappy. I wanted it to be an epilogue telling the stories of the people we knew and had grown to love. Luna? George? The rest of the order. I even wanted to know if Harry had ever reconciled with the Dursleys (there was certainly indication that Dudley would have been open to hearing from him again); did Dudley have wizard children?

I was very happy to find Hermione and Ron were finally together! And had had kids. Thouhg, i didnt catch there names Hugo and Rose..i think. And Ginny and Harry. *sigh* Ginny finally got him to herself. There daughter Lily, and there Son James, didnt surprised me. There son albus did!! Wow. Albus Severus Potter. Amazing! Took me totally by surprise!
Krissy15
I thought the epilogue sounded like poorly written fan fiction. . .I did not like it at all. It's good to see that Ron/Hermione did finally get together. . .but the whole epilogue was so corny! I wanted to hear what happened with Hagrid, McGonagal, and other main characters. . .we just heard what happened to Ron/Harry/Hermione/Ginny/Neville. I wanted to hear about Luna, the Weasleys. . .pretty much everyone.
Layla
I felt really ashamed when I read the epilogue because the first thing that popped into my mind was fanficiton. The whole bit where Harry name their kids after their parents and mentors. Come on...it could have been a bit more original.

But I still thought it had it's good parts. I figured that since J.K. Rowling HAD written it...I might as well forget about fanficiton and like it. I really wanted to hear about what happened to the other characters of the Harry Potter series.

I hope we hear more about others in later interviews.

Even though I agree that the epilogue was far too short, I think that that just leaves room for another book (if by some miracle J.K. decides to pen another one). I did like that Harry married Ginny, and Ron and Hermione were together, but it left a lot unanswered, and so, here's to hoping we'll get another story someday.
Ladie Lily Potter
I liked it and I thought it was really sweet. The characters remained themselves for the whole ride. I am so glad that Harry and Ginny are together and Ron and Hermione are together. I love how Harry named his kids after his parents, Dumbledore and Snape. That was really sweet. I loved it and thought it was perfect.
HP_RULES!
I'm not gonna lie, I was expecting more. The book itself was BRILLANT, but I wanted to learn about all the characters in addition to more about the ones we did see!

What happened to Luna? What did everyone decide to do with their lives (in terms of careers)? Did Neville ever get married? What happened to George? The Weasleys? Hagrid? Hogwarts? The Dursleys? I knew that she wanted to leave some things to the imagination, but I want more!!!

Alright. I'm going to be honest. I thought that the Epilogue was the worst chapter in all the series. dry.gif

I was soo disappointed when I read it. After all, it was that chapter that I was looking forward to the most. I wanted to know what happened to all the characters, and instead it seemed to be focusing more on ships, which I don't take much interest in. .

I wanted to know how they got their lives back on track. I mean, when the true story ended, Hogwarts was in ruins, the MoM was being run by Death Eaters, most of the Weasley family was without jobs, there wasn't a Headmaster in Hogwarts, the trio didn't have their N. E. W. T.s , Teddy Lupin was parentless, George had lost his twin, best friend and business partner, and Luna was pretty much homeless. wacko.gif

I was hoping for something more informative about the rest of their lives, too. How did Harry live out the rest of his life if all of it so far had been completely effected by Voldemort? Did the Elder Wand become useless? What did Hermione, the top student at Hogwarts, end up doing? Did Teddy have werewolf side effects? What became of the Durlseys? huh.gif

And, if the lack of information wasn't enough, I also felt that it was poorly written. I mean, none of the chracters were acting naturally. Hermione was bearly speaking, Ron was still acting like a 17 year old, and that didn't even seem like Harry. Plus, the names actually made me snort out loud. I mean Albus Severus? Scorpious? COME ON!

All in all, I think I would have been happier without.
megan_de_lioncourt
Didnt really like the 19 years later to be honest.
I thought it was rather queer.. the names ... what the kids were saying. We didnt find out about half of the people in the book. It was as well unusually brief. I didnt understand how we were supposed to build up a picture when its that brief. I think that it doesnt do the book justice. The name Albus Severus?? Im sorry but pah.. I admire albus , and severus.. but im sorry thats taking it abit though.

Love the rest of the book though =]
seriouslylovinsirius68
Dumbest thing JKR has ever come up with!!!!! Albus Severus?! Come on! And what about all the other beloved characters? I would have loved to actually get a glimse at Teddy's character, but all we hear of him is that he's snogging Bill and Fleur's daughter! And Ginny and Hermione hardly spoke. There were just so many unanswered questions that so many fans wanted to know! Who was headmaster of Hogwarts? Who was Minister of Magic? What about Luna and the rest of the Weasleys? I was just disappointed. Thoroughly disappointed and wanting more. It was like a really horid fan fiction.

I posted that question somewhere, who do you think Victorie belongs to? Because when I read cousin come out of James' mouth I was really confused. So I knew it had to be a Weasley, Hermione has no siblings and neither does Harry. I wanted to instantly guess Fluer. But yeah that is kind of funny to think about....pairing up a daughter of a victim of a werewolf with a werewolf lol! completely brilliant. We know Percy is working for the ministry just don't know where exactly in which department. Harry's comment about not wanting to talk to percy, something about illegal something it gives it away that he works there, still, i think lol.

Albus Severus Potter was a complete shock! Never in my life would I hear those three names strung together!! o.o!!
raydurz
Well all these questions left unanswered will make for great fan fiction material. I enjoyed the Epilogue, while I wish I could have found out about the others, I can deal with it.
XDumbledoreX
Didn't like it. Like most of the people have said so far on this thread there was not enough information. I wanted to see more things in two respects.

Firstly, what happened to everyone immediately following the death of Voldemort? We know that they all go to a feast and celebrate but what do people do? Does Harry approach Ginny and tell of his love for her? What does McGonagall say to those gathered and the future of Hogwarts? Does Harry go back to school later and pass his NEWTs? What do the family members do right afterward? George go back to work? Who does Teddy grow up with? What happens to Hagrid and Grawp? i mean there are a lot of things that need to be explained right after the battle is over, right?

Secondly, IF JKR is going ot go 19 years into the future then i really think she needed to tell more about other people 19 years later. We know Neville teaches and Draco has a kid but the main things we learn are Harry and Ginny are married and Ron and Hermione are married. To me thats how it should be and I'm happy but again i'd like to know more about other people. Like ok we know Mr. Weasley is alive i guess but what abpout the rest of the family? I kninda would have liked a descrition of what the older trio and Ginny looked like but i guess that might be asking too much.

I'm happy with the book and Harry marrying Ginny and Ron marrying Hermione is by far the perfect way to end but there is so much more there left to be revelaed. The only reason i can think that JKR didn't include more was that she wanted the reader to use his or her imagination to fill in the gaps or that she will explain all later either via website, additions to the end of DH, or the encyclopedia type book she has hinted at doing.
Amyrat151
The most I get from it is that R/Hr + G/H are married and have kids, but I think I agree about the names, but I do quite like Albus Servus, but James and Lily seems so unimaginative. But I guess that's just me. I don't believe in naming your kids after family members, because I think kids should be their own people. And I want to know why Ron or Hermione named their son Hugo, I don't think it's a good name, but at least it's different.
I would like to know as well who raised Ted Lupin, if Harry is his godfather, surely that would mean him, but we don't even know who this mini Marauder is. Not a whisper of who he is other than he kissed a Weasley. What all happened? What are the trio's and Ginny's jobs. That's my only problem, the lack of detail.
Other than that, I like it. I like the last line "all is well." War is over, Harry got his normal life, his family, all he wanted which is all that he deserves.
Puffapod
hey ,

It was really diappointed with it .didn't like it at all to be honest. I expecte to know what they did after life and so but we didn't got to know anything . The only thing was that they got married and had children , stayed friends and that's it, we know more about neville in the end than about harry .
At least we know he became a teacher .
I was really angry for it . I'd rather didn't know anything than what I know now about there later lifes .

Surely he was raised by his grandmother. After losing her husband and her daughter, Harry wouldn't have taken Teddy away. Especially because part of him believes that Remus and Tonks are only dead because of him.

The kids also talk about how "Now he'll really be part of the family" and Harry responds "He comes to dinner four nights a week, he basically lives there already." If he had ever lived with Harry and Ginny, Albus and James wouldn't need to share a bedroom as they offer to do so Teddy can live with them...

(I already wondered this and answered my own question. tongue.gif )
SnowyOwl22
I hated the epilogue. It was simple. I was expecting something more exciting and mysterious. I wanted to be surprised. Lots of people had predicted that Harry and Ginny would get together and so would Hermione and Ron. I also would've liked to know what happened to others. There was too many unanswered questions.
Louise
This was one of the spoilers I read before the release, and was the main reason why I staked my reputation on it being a fake. I couldn't believe that JKR would write anything so unworthy of her. I thought that it was a pathetic fanfic, written by someone obsessed with ships and babies and marriage and naming all your kids after dead people.

Imagine my utter horror when I saw that it wasn't a fanfic at all.

Utterly and completely contemptable, in my opinion. I loathed it beyond words. It was a fairy-tale ending that I'm sure brought immense satisfaction to shippers, but for someone like me who was looking for a nice resolution and neat wrap up of what everyone was doing now, I was bitterly disappointed. I can think of a million ways I would rather have had it ended - perhaps through another Rita Skeeter article, or newspaper snippets of the character's achievements, or possibly a big party to celebrate Harry's thirtieth birthday where everyone talked about what they were all doing and perhaps raised a few glasses to the dead. Anything like that....

Here, here.

But no. We're left with a drippy, badly written, cheesy, juvenile trip to Platform nine and three-quarters with the trio and Ginny attempting to populate an entire wizarding phone book with their offspring.

Is that the only way that JKR sees people being happy? Married, trailing behind a string of kids? Urgh...I hated it. Hated it so much I feel like ripping it from the book and pretending that she never wrote it.

It was beneath her; and she is capable of better.
HP'sPrincessFiona
I was disappointed, not only in the lack of information that was given, but to me it sounded like a well-written... fan fiction. I think I even read one like it, complete with the names of Harry's children. It was way too cheesy and didn't really fit in with JKR's writing style. I just don't understand the point of it, there wasn't much in there that we couldn't have already guessed was there?

Although, as I was voicing these thoughts to my friend, he said something interesting. And I know that JKR has already said that she doesn't have any plans to continue with Harry Potter, my friend's idea was that maybe she would do something with the character's introduced. I mean it would make sense, because of the lack of information and the introduction of the next generation, but it's probably just the wishful thinking of two teenagers after ten years of their lives have been unsatisfactorily cut off. sleep.gif
Abraxas
It was good. But, as everyone else on this thread has said, it was way, way, way, way, way, way, way too short. I am still madly in love with Draco wub.gif so the highlight for me was the bit where they see him and his little son - Scorpius wub.gif . I love that name sooo much wub.gif ! And I also really liked it when Harry knelt down and said how he doesn't care how Albus Severus get's sorted, because Hogwart's two greatest headmasters came from opposing houses, Slytherin and (presumably) Gryffindor. The whole thing was slightly kind of .. fairytale .. you know, they all got married to the people they'd known from the age of 11 and had little children who were all best friends and .. they all lived happily ever after basically. rolleyes.gif Not 100% satiis
charman_89
I don't think the epilogue should have been included. Instead I'd have loved an 8th book which would have had far more time to answer many unanswered questions. I agree that the epilogue was cheesy and while i was hoping to see a pleasant ending, it seemed JKR went for an expanded ending of the stereotypical "and they all lived happily ever after!"
EmStar202
The epilogue disappointed me. I was hoping to find out more about the minor characters. I would have liked to hear about George, whether of not he continued the joke shop, and Luna. I wonder what happened to her. I would have also liked to hear more about Neville. Was he married? Any kids? And what about Hagrid? And Lee? And Cho? I know many of these are minor, but I would have liked to know. Personally I wish the epilogue wasn't there, considering it said so little about the other characters. I didn't even think it was going to be a story. I thought it was going to be more of a narrative thing. Like...

"Neville, with his love for plants, took over as herbology professor when age caught up with Professor Sprout. While he was a full time professor at Hogwarts, Luna whom always believed to be full of nonsense, proved that Crumble-Horned Snorkack's were in fact real, and in her spare time worked as a substitute teacher for Hagrid, as care of magical creatures professor."

And so on. So basically I would like all or nothing.
ada_is_raw
I'm disappointed.. I love, adore, praise the book in every way, but the epilogue is just... bleh.

I really thought that it was going to give all the answers, I mean like ALL. I was expecting to hear about every Weasley's kids' lives, about Luna's, Nevilles', McGonagall's, Rita Seeker's, Hagrids, Madam Rosmerta's, EVERYONE'S lives. All kind of little details that I'm interested in.

To be honest, I couldn't care less about Harry's kids, especially if they're 10-year-olds. If the epilogue had to be about Harry and Ginny, and a little bit about Ron and Hermione(whom I love), why couldn't it be, for example, from their wedding? Or just an average day? And I hate it when they name their kids after their parents.. or Albus. O__o
Rose and Hugo were ok.

Maybe I didn't like it just cause I'm really not that into children, and that was way too children-centered.. There are other things in life worth mentioning. And what the hell, we didn't even find out what they ended up doing? Is Harry an auror, what about the rest? Why was the whole thing about kids?? Does someone accually care??

Damn I'm accually {MOD EDITED}! I love the Weasleys more than anything, and it makes me mad not to know how they're doing..

All I have to say is, JK please, write another book. With Ron and Hermione starring please. smile.gif

I thought the ending was okay, but it was way to fanfic-like. I really wanted to find out what happened to McGonnalgal, Neville (other than him becoming a professor), George, Dean, Hagrid, and especially, Dennis Creevey. I know it's weird but I love the Creevey brothers, and I really wanted to find out what happened to him, after he found out Colin died. And Kreacher! I would assume he would stay and serve Harry and his family, but I want to know what his life was like, and how he ended up. I do think it was kind of sweet how Harry and Ginny named their kids after his parents and DD, but I've read fanfics with the same idea, one where Harry and Ginny actually did name their kids James, Lily, and Albus. The whole thing was definately not good enough for JKR. Oh yeah, I didn't say this before, but I want to find out what happens to Lee, Kingsley, Lavender, Parvati, Seamus, and who the heck Malfoy married!! I really wanted to see a scene where Harry and Malfoy firgive each other, not like they'll be best friends, but I wanted them to at least not hate eah other. And Luna and Xenophilius (sp)! I bet Luna takes over the Quibbler, and I want Xenophilius to discover a Crumple-Horned Snorcack... Oh, I might as well write an eight book, seeing as JKR probably won't.

Who became the next headmaster or mistress?

Victoirie, the girl Teddy was snogging, supposedly is their cousin, but whos her parents?

I'm guessing she is Fleur and Bill's daughter, maybe...

ahh...the epilogue. I can't really say. I love the name Albus Severus, and the name Scorpius. I like that H/G and R/H ended up together, but I wish the epilogue had just said more. You know, more information than a scene. And I think it should have had some negatives, and some hint as to Harry having an interesting life in the future. Maybe being in the ministry, or playing Quidditch. I wanted to find out about Luna, GEORGE, and the Weasley's in general.

The one part i LOVED is that is was 19 years later. Though that is sad to me, since so much time passed and Harry is older, but did anyone else realize that 19 made it so that Albus Severus would be starting his first year this September? How awesome is that!

That's right. The event described in the Epilogue will happen on September 1, 2017, thus in ten years from now. I wonder if anyone will do something about it or Jo will do something about it.

I can understand the thirst of information we are left behind by the author. Perhaps, she wants us to want more and push her so much that she will be obliged to write more? However, it will never ends. Remember: life goes on.

The epilogue may serve as a teaser for the future series. To make it very comprehensive will ruin the plots.
However, without a good storyline, Jo may not want to write again. Whatever she writes from now on will always be compared to the previous series. So far, she has managed to make a new book better than the previous ones. If the next book is not at least as good as DH, she will receive all the negative complaints. She doesn't need it. She doesn't have to take it. She may not want to start it at all.

Whoever becomes the Headmaster/-mistress after Snape, the Minister of Magic etc will always change. Each character will meet their own destinies. Some will die earlier than the others. Some will marry but some won't have the family like Harry's or Ron's. Everybody else may live happily ever after, with constant thank to Harry for giving them peace to enjoy at least in the past 19 years.
Here's another look at the epilogue for Harry's closest friends are Neville and Luna.
- Neville stays at Hogwarts. Ginny only sent Harry's and her love to Neville alone. That would not be good if Neville already has a family, wouldn't it? It could be to give "our love to Neville and (Mrs. Neville Longbottom) and (their child/children)" Without these names, it seems that Neville stays single. Ginny wants Neville not to feel lonely, because he still has friends with abundant love for him, even after these years.
- Was Luna at the King's Cross? Conveniently the thick fog covers everything, but if Luna has a first-year, she would already meet Ginny and the gang to introduce her child. Apparently that's not the case. Luna isn't part of the conversation, indicating the absence of the relevant children or even family. It's also possible that the Lovegoods decide to move to another land. Thus, Luna's children may go to Dumstrang or other wizarding school.

I must say I was disgusted with the epilouge. First of all I think that 19 years is too long, that makes him 36, too long for me with no information. I wanted to know what happened between Harry and Ginny, when did they get married, what happened at the wedding. When did Ron and Hermionie get together. What about their wedding. You would think that Ginny being so fierce every other time you heard about her wouldnt be so silent.Harry could have come up with something more creative than names of dead people for his children. When Harry heard Percy tlking why didnt he want to talk to him? When James went to greet his cousins and saw Teddy snogging Victoire Who is Victore is it a female Viktor hermiones child, probably not but yeah so. Draco and______ his wifeand little scorpious(sp) whats up with that name. Then on the last page Albus asks"what are they all staring at" do Harry's children not know about his past. My least favorite part was the last line, All was well" NO all was not well, Harry has lived through one of the hardest lives its a classic fairy tale endind and THIS IS NOT A FAIRY TALE
We never heard any thing about any one else Harry was the most important character but what about everyone else? Their lives are imprtant too, right...? In all it was like fanfic written in a hurry...

I was glad that Jo kept the Epilogue short and without a whole lot of detail. I think it would be kind of boring to see that so and so got married to him/her and so and so works here. She leaves it up to our imaginations and like I said earlier it leaves a lot of room for fan fiction.

I have had mixed feeling about the epilouge. I liked it because it did show a very sentimental relashionship between Harry and his kids as well as Ginny, but when she mentioned an epilouge I was hoping for more. I was hoping for things about George and the rest of the Weasleys, McGongall, the Ministry of Magic, and so on. I guess the only reaction I can have to it is, maybe that means she's really not done writing??? Or thats just my hopes kicking in...

Well I believe she said the she was done writing Harry Potter stories, but there's a whole world for her to write about. That could definitely be reason on why she left a lot of details out.

It seems so wrong, to me, to criticize JK, but I'm going to. I was so disappointed in the epilogue. I did like what it did tell us, but I needed much more info. I understand that she had written this chapter way back at the start of writing the whole series and had it locked away in a vault or whatever. Is it possible that her writing style had improved so much over time and that this was an example of her former skill level? (I feel sacrilegious in saying that.) We have been fed somewhere over 4000 pages of info over 7 books to be left with this little bit at the end covering the next 19 years. I feel a real let down and sort of cheated. I really need to know more.

I've been thinking that she really could write another book filling in the 19 years, but some would think that the world at peace is not interesting without a big war to rage. Personally, I could go for some peace. So, how about it, Jo, fill in the blanks. Pleeeeeeease. Anyone want to campaign for that?

I agree that the Epilogue didn't even sound like J.K.'s writing, It was stiff and rushed, and Harry didn't sound like Harry. Ron was the same, but overall I wanted more answers. I thought that maybe J.K. added that brief ending so that no one else could take up her storyline and write a different ending. Kind of like how years later, someone wrote the follow-up to Gone With the Wind, after the original author died and her rights to the storyline were no longer valid. Who knows?
