I think that the DH was full of loads of really sad/moving moments so i just wanted to know which bits or which lines were everyones favourites in the book

i know thers already a thread for the funniest bits but this one can be about the bits that made you have one of those 'awww' kind of moments - something like the 'dumbledore's man through and through' type of moment happy.gif

i think one of the lines that i really like is when ron is talking about the deluminator and he says "he must've known I'd run out on you" and harry replies with "No... he must've known you'd always want to come back"

also when harrys walking to 'his death' and he asks "you'll stay with me?" and his dad replies with "until the very end"

thats only two im sure there are plenty more so i just wanted to know what everyone else thought
X-Girl
Those two bits were good but the most moving for me was probably The Prince's Tale. Snape's story was so sad although it is partly his fault.

And when Fred dies and Percy if flipping out was so sad but not as sad as when Dobby dies. Dobby was so neat. If House Elves got sorted he wuld be Gryffindor all the way.
pureblood_narcissa
Dobby's death moved me sad.gif As did hedwig's!!

Lupin and Tonks completely choked me up.

But Snape's memories was really touching and how when looking back you then understand that when Snape told Harry to look at him, he wanted to see Lily's eyes *chokes* aww.

thanx for posting everyone, much appreciated!
yea i agree the deaths were moving especially dobby and snapes last dying moments and when snape talks about lily and we realise his patronus is a doe and he says 'always' eeek.gif
ILoveHarryPotter07
Lupin and Tonks, when it describes them as so peaceful they could be sleeping. And when Harry uses the Reserection Stone and he is like, I'm so sorry you all had to die, and Remus says that he is sad that he will never get to know his son, but his son will understand that he died to make the world better for him.. or something to that effect. That was really moving.
Ladie Lily Potter
Oh my God ... there are soo many moving bits/lines for me! I'm going to attempt to remember most of them but it certainly won't be all of them!

-The Aeschylus quote at the beginning. Oh my good Lord, that gave me shivers. It was amazing!
-Some of McGonnagal's lines in preparation for the Battle of Hogwarts.
-When Harry asks Lupin, Lily, James, and Sirius if death hurts.
-When Harry is at his parents' grave and he's crying. I was crying right along with him lol.
-When Snape says "Look...at...me." to Harry when he's dying.
-When Fred dies. It's symbolic because he dies laughing when his character has represented comic relief throughout this whole series.
-Kingsley's patronus saying "The Ministry has fallen. Scrimgeour is dead. They are coming."
-When Harry is reading his mom's letter.
-When Harry and Dumbledore are talking at King's Cross.
-When Harry gets to see Lupin, Lily, James, and Sirius using the resurrection stone.
-When Harry tells the snitch "I am about to die." And just in general ... the whole bit where he walks into death.
-When Harry kills Voldomort.
-The final lines.
bethdd3
Two powerful parts for me:

1) After Harry opened the Snitch and he asked his parents, Sirius, and Lupin: "You'll stay with me?" and then said, "Stay close to me." It ripped my heart out.

2) When Harry told his son that Snape was probably the bravest man he ever knew. I pretty much lost it then.
slytherin_locket
I absolutely loved the part when Harry found out how to open the Snitch " I open at the close " and he tells it " I am about to die ". That was really moving. And when Hermione is being tortured and Ron is yelling her name. I cried brokenly. eeek.gif
Ladie Lily Potter
I want to add Neville's line when Voldomort tells him that he should join the Death Eaters. Neville says something like "I'll join you when hell freezes over!" Ooh. Loved it! That was a great line for Neville. He's become brave!
UnknownLocket
I don't know if this part was very moving or inspirational to many, but it was the one of the few parts in Deathly Hallows where I actually teared up. It was when Harry mentioned that Albus Severus Potter was the only child of his to have Lily's eyes. For some reason, it almost made me cry and I had to run to my room from the kitchen in order to stop the tears from falling.
crookshanks04
well there were a few parts that choked me up a bit...

like when harry is leaving the dursleys forever and dudley speaks out, hermione being tortured and of course all of the "good guy" deaths

the things that really made me cry were...

when harry tells the snitch "i am about to die" that is so sad. the whole time he was talking to lilly and james and sirius and lupin i was crying my eyes out.

also the princes last memory really made me cry it was so sad to finally read snapes story... after reading this it just made his death even worse for me.

Ladie Lily Potter pretty much sums it all up well for me too...

My favorite lines were:

-With the deluminator when Harry tells Ron, "No...he must've known you'd always want to come back"

-When Dumbledore tells Snape after the Yule ball, "You are a far braver amn than Igor Karkaroff. You know, sometimes I think we sort too soon..." and Snape realizes he could have been with Lily

-When Harry tells Albus Severus that he was named after two head masters and that it doesn't matter what house he's in

And more that I've forgotten...
tonks-13
I loved it when Harry asked Sirius "Does it hurt"? when he was walking to Voldemort.

When LV asked Lucius Malfoy for his wand and Narcissa held onto Lucius' wrist I was like awwwwww so cute =] wub.gif
Kate13
Snape's memories in the pensieve was both my favourite part in the book and the most touching, for me. To discover that his love had held out for so long was really moving and sort of surreal for such an unlikeable man.
snape is pure evil
After the Silver Doe burst out of the wand. Dumbledore asks

"After all this time?"

"Always" replies snape. That was the most moving of all the books.

Similarly

"Look at my eyes" when I read it second time was really amazing.

And also when I realized what DD was feeling when he drank the potion gave me chills.

And when harry calls Voldermort as "Tom Riddle" it was really cool.
candice
Sorry if my post isn't long enough, don't have lots of time.
I just wanted to add something I've just remembered. Nobody talked about this line, but I was nearly crying when Harry enters Luna's room and found out that Neville, Ginny, Ron, Hermione and he are on the ceiling with the word "friend". Thought it was quite sad because no one has ever seemed to consider her as a friend.

Ps : excuse my english, I am French = )
Flitwick
This bit nearly had me in tears, when Luna is saying the words over dobby's grave and when Harry carves in,'Here lies dobby, a free Elf' that choked me up.
When Hermione is been tortured and Ron is screaming her name, that is so sad.
gryffindor-girl43
my favorite part in the whole series is in ch. 33, The Prince's Tale in DH. pg. 687

"But this is touching, Severus," said Dumbledore seriously.
"Have you grown to care for the boy, after all?"
"For him?" shouted Snape. "Expecto Patronum!"
From the tip of his wand burst the silver doe: She landed onthe office floor, bounded once across the office, and soared out of the window. Dumbledore watched her fly away, and as her slivery glow faded he turned back to Snape, and his eyes were full of tears.
"After all this time?"
"Always," sais Snape.

Albus Dumbledore
There were so many moving lines, phrases and paragraphs in Deathly Hallows, a few more than others.

Almost the entire chapter of "The Prince's Tale" was absolutely amazing. I love every line of it.. to see the larger plan unfold between Snape and Dumbledore.. brilliance.

It was very emotional when Pansy Parkinson yells something like "There he is! There's Harry Potter! Someone grab him!" after Voldemort said they would all be spared if only Harry was given up. All of the Hufflepuffs, all of the Gryffindors, and all of the Ravenclaws get up and stand between the Slytherins and Harry. eeek.gif

Also, when Kreacher and the other house elves appear with pots and knives to fight in the final battle, that was truly touching.

And many many more, but you get the idea.
Ima_LoOnYLoVeGoOd
One of my favorites was the line right after they escaped from the Malfoy's masion and Dobby has just been stabbed with the silver knife:

" "Dobby, no, don't die, don't die ----"
The elf's eyes found him, and his lips trembled with the effort to form words.
"Harry...Potter..."
And then with a little shudder the elf became quite still, and his eyes were nothing more than great glassy orbs, sprinkled with light from the stars they could not see. "

Truly inspirational, truly rolleyes.gif eeek.gif grouphug.gif

As is many other parts, but there are too many to name sad.gif smile.gif

I've read the book, and I've read it out loud to my kids. Reading them out loud changes the bits I found most moving / inspirational. You notice it more!

When reading the book ... my favourite bit of HPDH was 'The ministry has fallen. Scrimgeour is dead. They are coming.' I think that was because the book had been such carnage before, with charity burbage, hedwig, mad-eye all killed and holey george injured; then with scrimgeor dead the hunters had become the hunted, the chase was on, and with the end of the story unknown, and the Aeschylus and William Penn works in my mind ... I was like ... crikey ... this is gonna be carnage all the way to the end ... no-ones gonna survive.

Reading the books out loud though, dear me, there was so many laughs at the comedy parts, but the big hitters on the emotions were definately the dobby grave scene, the walk into the forest with the resurrection stone and the epilogue. The most inspriational though was when Neville shouts out 'Dumbledore's Army'; utter defiance in the face of the enemy ... go Neville !!!!
twiggysun
I got a bit teary eyed when Lupin asked Harry to be the godfather of his son... that was so sweet.
And the part about Ron and the Deluminator was beatiful too
and of course the last line 'All was well'... I really liked that line. I got goosebumps while reading that
carpysports14
Mine wasn't really a line, but it was all of princes tale. it made me so happy that snape finally proved himself good. but the part when dd said harry would have to die, i cried soooo hard. the whole lupin/harry godfather thing was pretty good. and, yeah, so was the "All was well" thing. ok. this will go on forever if i keep reading other peoples posts.
kthnxCRUCIO
wow. this book was one crazy emotional rollercoaster. for real. some of th touching parts for me though are mostly what have been said...

-'after all this time?' 'always' with snape and dumbledore.
-luna's room. i was reading it and i was like oh gosh.
-when snape gave harry his memory so harry could finally see the truth about it.
-harry opening the snitch.
-when he was talking to his dad about staying with him
-basically the whole time he was walking to voldemort. i was bawling.

and i think the most touching was when snape said look at me so he could see lily's eyes. eeek.gif
horcrux123
Loads of touching moments/lines, dont know where to begin....
- Luna's room.
- Neville saying ' I'll join you when hell freezes over!' (that was cool)
- LV saying ' Harry Potter is dead.' and then hearing Ginny's, Hermione's and Ron's screams the loudest.
-Ron screaming for Hermione when she is being tortured.
-The real Snape
- Harry and Ginny's kissing oblivion
-Finally 'He touched his scar, all was well.'

eeek.gif
tonks&lunalvr
My favorite line in the whole book is where Neville says to LV "I'll join you when hell freezes over, Dumbledore's army!" then proceedes to stand up to him. Neville started as the most cowardly charachter, and ends up such a big hero. woot.gif I love neville!!!!

I also loved when Harry is talking to Albus Severus, and tells him that he was named for two headmasters, and it doesn't matter what house he's in.

The part that made me cry the most was when tonks and lupin died. eeek.gif I was on an airplane and was positively sobbing.

All of the Hufflepuffs, all of the Gryffindors, and all of the Ravenclaws get up and stand between the Slytherins and Harry.

And when Harry was talking to his mom and dad, Sirius and Lpin and he said "You'll stay with me?" was heartbreaking.
superfefito
Nobody has said anything about the line Neville says about how his grandmother tells him how proud she is of him and that he is trully his father son...

I completly shoke there. because neville had to work extra hard to be succesful. He doesn't have enough skill but fighted extra hard to fill his parents shoes.

When Dobby Dies is really sad I almost cry there.

And of cource when Harry talk with his mom in the forrest

How could I miss the part with Dumbledore and Severus with the patronus and 'always' line...I didn`t knew what doe meant dry.gif stupid me... such a breath takeing moment sad.gif
I liked the part when Ron comes back and Hermione gets angry...that`s ma girl happy.gif
Another moving (and scary) moment was when LV opend Dumby`s grave mad.gif
and the fight between Harry and Lupin sad.gif sad.gif it was sad but Lupin deserved it. Harry is really James`s son rolleyes.gif (aldough Snape could have been a wonderful father rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif )
The part where Hermione was being tortured was also heart-breaking. When Ron started to scream I stopped breathing sad.gif I kept saying to myself...oh no Hermione, don`t die, not now! Ron loves you...he really does!!! DON`T DIE!!!!

And after all of this...Snape`s my favourite! I have only true respect for him. I wish I were Lily sad.gif
EmStar202
When Dobby died I was so sad! And when Snape says "Look at me," to Harry so he can look into the eyes of Lily one more time! eeek.gif When Luna had pictures of Neville, Ginny, Harry, Ron, and Hermione in her room. I was like "awwwwwwwww!"

Don't worry madie I didn't get the doe either! And I totally agree with you about Ron yelling Hermione's name! I did the same thing as you, except I actully yelled! I was in my room with the door shut so I was free to make as much noise as I wanted! thumbsup.gif (within reason dry.gif ) I was screaming, "No don't kill Hermione! Ron loves her! Stop! He loves her!" (like Bellatrix would even stop, let alone hear me! tongue.gif )

When ron came back and saved Harry I'm just like "awwwwww!" He's a true friend! Sure he walked out, but then he came back! And when Ron goes, "I guess Dumbledor knew I'd walk out," and Harry's like, "No, he knew you'd come back," or something like that. When everyone was fighting in the war and all Harry's old friends came back, like Wood. That was so awsome! biggrin.gif And when the houseleves all come running out led by Kreacher. That was so awsome. "Fight, Fight, Fight for my master, Regulas Black!"

Another awsome part was whenever Neville did anything heroic, like how he stood up to Voldemort! I love him! It was so cool how his grandmother's like, "Where's my grandson?" And Harry goes, "Fighting." "Naturally," When she said that I was sooooo happy cause shes finallly proud of him!

And when Hermione kissed Ron, I laughed and awwed, not to mention celebrated! Cause come on, we've waited 3 books for this!

Another moving (and scary) moment was when LV opend Dumby`s grave

i do agree that it was one of the scariest moment, i initially thought that voldermort will not be satisfied only on getting the wand but was about to destroy the body of dumbledore, fortunately that didn't happened thanks jk for not writting what i am thinking at that moment, what a horrible act if it happened because i think voldemort was capable of doing that, he was too evil not to have mattered what remains on dumbledore's body after getting what he wanted.
lizzifuss

my favorite lines are when Kreacher beats Mundungus Fletcher with a pan and asks his new master, "one more for good luck?"

and when that Carrow fellow spit in McGonagall's (sp?) face and Harry came out of under his invisibility cloak and said, "you shouldn't have done that"

another bit was when Fred asked George how he was feeling when he lost his ear and he said, "Like a saint" or "saintly" and Fred scolded him for the lame joke.

of course the blowup between Remus and Harry when he went to visit them at Grimmauld Place and the fact that even after that, Remus still asked Harry to be Teddy's godfather.

for some reason, when Harry and the Dursleys parted ways choked me up. it was moreso Dudley's reaction to the whole thing that touched me.
Axoria
One of my favourite lines was in "The Siver Doe" , when Harry and Ron talked after Ron saved Harry's life:

"You've sort of made up for it tonight," said Harry. "Getting the sword. Finishing of the Horcrux. Saving my life."
"That makes me sound a lot cooler than I was," Ron mumbled.
"Stuff like that always sounds cooler than it really was," said Harry. "I've been trying to tell you that for years."

I find this really true also for our world. If you pass an exam, or you achieve something which you wanted to for a long time, it sounds like a huge thing, because maybe during all the time you tried to do it, you too didn't really thought it such a unique thing, but when someone else is telling about it to you, it really seems much cooler.

My other favourite is when after Ron and Hermione's kiss Ron says: "so it's now or never, isn't it?"

I love this so much biggrin.gif
clauclo
The two parts that moved me the most were The Prince's Tale and The Forest Again... Thse chapters are so full of emotions, how Snape was protecting him since the beggining, and when Harry learns that he's got to die... And accept it even if he finds it so difficult... When he uses the Ressurection Stone and ask his mother to stay close... Aweeee so moving !!!
HarryPotter_28
its easy to say the bits that moved me... i cried after every death in the book... even hedwigs... i think the only death i didnt cry at was voldemorts... also where harry is in the forest and he asks sirius and his parents if they will stay with him... and they say till the very end... and also the princes tale, that made me go all mushy inside...happy.gif
annesches
one of my favorite line is when dumbledore asked snape "don't be so shocked, severus. how many men and women have yoy watched die?" and snape replied "lately, only those whom i could not save" just thought of it as what truly defines snape's character after his death eaters days. he did changed and not only for protecting lily's son but also for himself, because when you were stucked with dumbledore for so long, it's no wonder you'll be like him, saving people. as for snape, he could have save a lot when his particular role was not to spy on the death eaters, but also he could have save a lot because he is a spy. complicated as was snape is.
Knowitall88
god I think you guys have just about said it all I personally love Dobbys last words Harry....Potter.... thats what part made me burst into tears because in the end dobby died doing what he loved protecting harry. I also was moved by the line that griphook deleivers shortly after dobby's death about harry showing respect that no other wizards would have i lovvvvvve that line it came me the chills. Liek someone said earlier I was strangely moved by the return of many of our fave characters Wood, Percy etc.................... In the midst of the battle.
Mrs Longbottom81
I think the part when Harry opens the snitch and his parents, Lupin, and Sirius are telling him how proud they are of him and how death doesn't hurt is extremely moving. This is the first part in the book that brought tears to my eyes. I also think the part when Ron comes back and destroys the locket is very moving because it shows how strong Harry and Ron's friendship is and how much Harry Hermione needed him. Snape's death was moving too. It was so sad that the last thing he wanted to see were Lily's eyes
twiggysun
I just remembered one of the things that still makes me feel like crying...
it's the part where Harry finally discovers what ' I open at the close ' means. When he puts the snitch against his lips and says ' I am about to die '... that just so sad and moving.
This really sums Harry up for me, how he is accepting that he has to make this sacrifice in order to save the rest!!
gryffindorgirlie
The two most inspirational parts for me were luna's painting and Kreachers motivational speech.

Luna's painting was so... Theres no word to discribe it really. To some it up it made me think about my life and how I take some of my friends for granted. I can just imagine Luna up there peacefully, painting carefully. That was one of the most tear-jerking moments for me.

Kreachers role was great in this book. I was just laughing my head off every single thing he said. Whacking Mundungus with a saucepan was classic. But thie best bit was his motivation in the final battle bit. 'Fight in the name of my master' YAYAYAY! Go Kreacher, go!
spritsy101
I think one of the most moving bits is when Narcissa lies for Harry, saying "He's dead!". That really moved me. Although, I think it would have been really good if some Slytherins had stayed to fight in the battle for Hogwarts... oh well, can't expect too much of them, I suppose!

Another little bit I loved was when Kreacher nodded to Ron and Harry and gave a "funny little spasm in Hermione's direction". That was really touching!

Also "Here lies Dobby, a Free Elf" really got me.

EDIT: I forgot to mention the most moving bit. When Snape finds out from Dumbledore that Harry has to die:

Snape looked horrified... "Now you tell me you have been raising him like a pig for slaughter -"

That was really touching.

i think one of the lines that i really like is when ron is talking about the deluminator and he says "he must've known I'd run out on you" and harry replies with "No... he must've known you'd always want to come back"

That was definately one of those "aww" moments.

You guys already said all of them!

"here Lies Dobby, a Free Elf" and "dumbledore's man through and through" that was great.

There were so many and I loved them. Especially during King's Cross and Snape's tale.

Dudley.. was a Aww Tear-jerking moment. He's like "Isn't he coming with us?" He cares about Harry! It was great.
HP number one Fan
I must say there were a few moments which made me feel "moved". biggrin.gif

Dobbys death, come on who ever didnt feel a fraction of loss isnt human lol.
When Severus said to Harry "look at me" gahhh still brings tears to my eyes when i talk about it.
Also when Ron left Harry and Hermione. I thought that he and Herm would never get together then no matter how much they wanted each other.
And When Lupin/Tonks/Fed died so brave and when Lupin died that marked the end of the marauders. eeek.gif
cjwarrior65
The part when Harry and Voldemort have their final showdown was very touching. When he finally stands up to Voldemort once and for all, it pretty much made me want to cheer for him, it was such a happy moment.
Merlin_most_baggy_y_fronts
all goey inside...hmmm...when ron was screaming and bawling for hermione in malfoy manor...i nearly melted...and Molly Wealey "you will NEVER touch our children AGAIN" i really loved that...when voldemort turned his wand on molly after bella died, and harry yells PROTEGO!! and pulls of the cloak. i just loved that. oh yea and...
"his scar has not pained him for 19 years. all was well."
Nola
Oh man!! where do I start! Most of this book had me in tears!! Even after reading it a handful of times (and the fact that just about anything turns me into mush!) Let's see... here are my favs:

Surprisingly I didn't cry as much as people think when Hedwig died.. So I'll go ahead and throw that out!

Moody just surprised the Hades out of me..

When ron was trying to destroy the Horcrux.. aww man.. still gets me everytime.

When hermione screamed at ron when he came back.. Don't know why.. But makes me cry all the time

The grave, when Harry starting sobbing too..

When Fred died, and Percy and Ron flip out.. *sniffs*

Mrs. Weasley's outburst!!

The whole forrest scene.. I've never experienced death like that and I was totally there with Harry.. Aw man.. I still cry..

The kiss most of us had been waiting for..

Dobby.. ah... what a loyaly little guy.. When harry was burying him.. *sniffs*

I've probably missed a few more other scenes from the book.. But I don't have it with me right now.> These are the most memorable ones right now.. Gawd.. I could read this book over and over.. By far my favorite one!
WitchOfTheWest
I really think one of the saddest moments was when Harry and Hermione go see his parents graves and hermione conjures those flowers...that made me tear up.....
One of the sweetest moments was right after that with Harry and Hermione outside the tent....i love that scene because it shows the Harry and Hermione really are like brother and sister.....and just the fact that she is so upset because he might be mad at her...it really rminded me of my relationship with my best friend who's like my brother....
CAPS LOCK
in my opinion, It is really cool when harry has the Dumbledore like quality to him that he is the only one that can save people. Like when he arrives at hogwarts for ravenclaw's diendum, and you can feel the exciting atmosphere, like people wispering, "its him" sort of like when dumbledore shows up at the ministry of magic at the end of OotP. Also at the very end when the final duel between voldy and harry takes place and harry is taunting voldy and calling him "tom" it is much like what dumbledore always did. that connection between harry and DD in those parts i thought was spectacular.
12quidditch_star5
the saddest part to me was when Harry and Hermione visited Harry's parent's graves. Because it's like he's actually kind of seeing them without really seeing them. And then when Hermione conjures up some flowers for him to put down it makes me sad. But also the very last sentence of the book. "His scar had not bothered him in 19 years. All was well." sniff *tear* sniff.
Miss_Mimz
Oh WOW...so many good one were listed on here...I have goosebumps and a lump in my throat. wub.gif

Here are a few that stood out for me:

-Harry's Birthday kiss from Ginny heart.gif
-''...no he knew you'd come back'' - HP hug.gif
-Ron saying they have to warn the elves to leave the caste and Hermoine running to kiss him heart.gif
- and after Ron & Hermoine's kiss Harry saying: ''is this the moment?''
-(I open at the close) ''I am about to die'' eeek.gif
-''does it hurt''
-''stay close to me'' eeek.gif
-THE WALK TO THE FOREST...with all his thoughs, seeing Ginny, knowing he had to do it, remembering the fun he had had with Hermoine and Ron and how they seemed far away now magic.gif
-King's Cross
-Harry FINALLY face to face with Tom Riddle at the end and the dance they have eye to eye where Harry calls Voldemord ''Tom'' and tries to save him with ''remorse'' ugh it was WELL worth the wait grouphug.gif

...and soooo many more I cant think of right now
