Just generally, how do you think Lucius was portrayed in this film?

I think Jason Isaacs is a brilliant Lucius, so charismatic.

However, I wonder why they decided to make Lucius the one who drops the prophecy? Maybe to emphasise who the blame will fall upon when the Dark Lord finds out?

Also, when will we find out that Lucius and the rest of the Death Eater's get caught and sent to Azkaban? I'm surprised they didn't do this in the film!
They could have used that then shown Draco's reaction or something- there wasn't anything!

What do you think?

I think Jason Isaacs was BRILLIANT. Except I hate it how they took away the quidditch from the movie.

but anyway, the Lucius Malfoy in the movie was exactly how I imagined him in the books smile.gif

Brilliant, thats all I can say. Jason Isaacs is exactly how I imagined Lucius Malfoy to be. I agree with you pureblood_narcisssa, they should have put the capture scene in, mind you, it might have made the movie even longer and I thought it seemed a little bit too long.

The Malfoys and Bellatrix Lestrange are my fav charries in the books, Im glad they kept Jason Isaacs, I didnt really thing Helena Bonham Carter was the right person for the role of Bellatrix though, she didnt fit the part. Thats my opinion anyway. happy.gif

Jason Isaacs was perfect. I liked his new outfit. There’s supposed to be a new toy of Lucius out this November. I felt the picture didn’t get much of him actually leading the group of Death Eaters laying siege on the M.O.M. The actually scene was short and ill planed. Sort of like watching a sporting event from a parking lot!

I'm with you tonks-13 I thought Helen Bo-Carter wasn't right. I did like the exasperated look Lucius gives to her yapping. I'm feeling you bro!

I thought the part where Lucius appears from sand in front of Harry and the gang was wierd. I mean, what happened to the Death Eater running around the Ministry. I also thought the whole black smoke for the DE's and white smoke for the Order was pretty over-dramatic. Does anybody else agree with me?

Edit: Yeah, I noticed I spelled "sandman" wrong.

Mod Edit: All better. smile.gif

I liked the visual interpretation of Apparating applied to OOTP, both the mist effect and the light/dark contrast of good and bad. Just popping into existance on the sceen is not only boring, but reminiscent of "Bewitched" and just wouldn't be bought by movie-goers these days. huh.gif

I think that all the effects would be great for people who hadn't read the books, but for people who have its over the top, slightly i think...because it isn't mentioned in the books that they have different smoke abilities when they fly around... i dont think (if i am wrong, forgive me... please) that the power of flying around is mentioned in the book, just the ability to go from one place to the other...not zoom around a room... never mind with smoke... and yeah, they were supposed to do more running around definately... still... I'm probably being picky, the films are never the same as the books, theres always some little changes, i'm not complaining though, the films are good...razzberry2 does have a point though, it does improve the veiwing of the film... its just the changes from the books that get to me... the books are so good, why change them on screen?!
lancelot243
I think it upsets many of the book readers that the movies change so much, but what can we do? I do agree that the mist affect of apparition was to over the top. They could have made a little mist when they appeared, but not have it follow them around like they are flying. I hope they don't keep this up...book spoiler coming up...

I liked the apparating thing. But i didn't really think it was sand but i see where you are coming from though. Some people say that the white for the order and black for the death eaters where over dramatic and they have a point but me personally. I think that really you need some over dramatisation in a film to make it more epic than it is in the book. I missed the bell jar room and that.
deatheater13
I see what you guys are saying, that some dramatization is good for viewing. I think I have somewhat changed my mind about the smoke, after seeing it again, I think that it did add a good effect to the battle. I do still wish there had been more running around the DoM like in the book, but like lancelot243 said, what can we do?

I thought it was fine. All the cool special effects ('bright colours and shiny things!') made up for the plot points they murdered. I agree with deatheater13, it was good for effect.

"Mr Sandman, give me a dream!" Ba ba ba ba!

He he, couldn't help myself.

I read the OoTP a long time ago and so when I was watching the movie I didn't remembered how the scenes were described in the book exactly. And to be honest, the fight around the Veil is for me really one of the most impressive scenes of the whole movie. I think the mist, dust, sand or whatever we wish to call it, together with the colors, add just the right dramatic visual element to the fighting and I really love it. The problem of course is that it does not correspond with the text.

As all of you here have pointed out, the sand is an interpretation of Apparating. But then, there is Apparition portrayed in the movie even before, when Fred and George Apparate right behind Mrs. Weasley in Number 12, Grimmauld Place. And that Apparition is exactly how it is depicted in the books with no signs of sand or additional color, it is just the right pop. So what are the Death Eater and the Order actually doing in the Ministry in the movie?

So, I would say that the flying was a bit over the top, but I honestly love the visual effects of the mist and colors.

As for the colors black for the Death Eaters and white for the Order, I think it might also have a practical side to it. The battle is rather fierce and fast and the setting of it rather dark, so it actually helps the viewers follow who is who and where at the moment; in other words, which side is winning and which is losing.

How does that sound? smile.gif

I liked the special effects in the 5th movie, that is what made it more magical to me. I think that it really irritates book readers when they change alot, I know it does me, but I think that the way the de and order apparated was totally cool. It made it more of a definate good v/s evil kind of fight, and also it made the order look like they were just as powerful witches and wizards as the de. It seems that in the movies, the witches and wizards fighting the dark lord have not seemed as powerful as those on his side. Anyhow, I enjoyed the whole ministry battle.

Cheers for the agreement.
I loved Lucius's jacket, it looked awesome lol.
Helena* Bo-Carter was ok but not how I expected Bellatrix to be.
Mind you, I loved it when she was laughing crazily when escaping from Azkaban, classic!
Heh.

Can someone remind me, I can't recall a part from the book with Lucius actually been captured - I remembered it being mentioned but not an actual description on the scene huh.gif

Jason Isaacs is perfect for the role and I am very interested to see Narcissa in the next film.

I agree about the part with him dropping the prophecy, not what I thought would happen, as Harry was meant to hear it with Dumbledore and not just when he grabbed it off the shelf. Ok things have to be changed but some of the changes IMHO was a little bit too much (like Cho being the sneak and not Marietta)
