Hi fellow Marauder fans! I have question I've been mulling since rereading OoTP:

Do you think the Marauders knew how close Lily and Snape really were, or realized that if the events of "Snape's Worst Memory" hadn't happened they might have become a couple (according to an interview with JKR)?

I've been thinking maybe they did not realize the kind of relationship Lily had with Snape. She was described in the memory as being with a group of girls, and obviously Snape was a Slytherin so he wouldn't have been spending time with Lily in the Gryffindor common room. Maybe when they did spend time together our Marauder friends weren't around to see it, and if they didn't know where Snape's childhood home was they may never have known Lily and Snape knew each other pre-Hogwarts. When Harry talks to Lupin and Sirius in the fire following seeing the Memory they try to comfort him by explaining that James and Snape didn't get along because Snape was jealous of his talent, his cool-factor, and his quidditch skills (no mention of Lily.)

But on the other hand, and I know this is a line from the movie not the book, but Movie-Lupin says Lily saw the beauty in others even when they couldn't see it in themselves (I love that part!) Initially it seemed Remus had a soft spot for Lily too, but could it be possible he was referring to her friendship with Snape? Eeek. I see both sides, so I go around in circles you know...

Please tell me what you think!

This is my first post in The Unofficial Marauders Fanclub, so Hi everyone!

Do you think the Marauders knew how close Lily and Snape really were, or realized that if the events of "Snape's Worst Memory" hadn't happened they might have become a couple (according to an interview with JKR)?
I have never really thought about that.. but I don't think that James and Sirius noticed. Maybe Lupin did, but I don't really see how because I don't think anyone really ever saw Lily and Snape together very much. I think when they did hang out around Hogwarts that none of the Marauders were around to see.. I mean eventually I think the Marauders found out, well Sirius and Lupin at least. But i don't know..Good Question.

hey harry.potter.geek sorry it's been a bit dead in this thread. but we're trying to bring back all topics back alive!

Do you think the Marauders knew how close Lily and Snape really were, or realized that if the events of "Snape's Worst Memory" hadn't happened they might have become a couple (according to an interview with JKR)?

Well, let's look at it from both possible sides. If they didn't know then that means that obviously they would've continued to tease him. Not knowing how much it would upset Lily. If they knew, I would think that they would continue to make his life hell as to make sure they're apart.

But since we are to believe that the Marauders are good hearted people, and if Lily asked to stop it and told them about how close she is, MAYBE they may have respected that. But if Harry got his father's traits then I would assume that James would fight hard for Lily. Even if it meant going against the already established relationship between Lily and Snape
