Geez. I wish I had time to read all of the books everybody's suggesting.
But, you know, if you want to...you could always submit a review to me and I might consider posting it if it's good enough. You'll get full credit and everything, and I'm always looking for some good reviewers.
Just send me a review at mheck@veritaserum.com if you're interested.
Btw, Ashley, don't you just love when people are like "Your last name's Heck?" and you get to say "Yeah. Like 'What the heck?!'" That always makes me happy.

Anyone read any of the Nicholas Sparks books (Message in a bottle, the notebook, etc.) I know a lot of people have watched the movies, but the books are so much better. I highly recommend anything by him.
I also love Dan Brown. Davinci Code and Angels and Demons are awesome. I love his writing.
I am currently reading Thirteen Moons by Charles Frazier(Cold Mountain). Highly recommend it, he gets difficult to read as he doesn't use quotes, but he is a really good story teller.

And for people who like funny Vampire Novels, Vampire Kisses (series) is good. I finished the first one and I'm waiting for the others to come in.
OOH this looks good! I'll have to look for it.
I think I've read a Nicholas Sparks book. The author sounds really familiar. Hmm...
Hey has anyone read the "Private" series? They are REALLY good. You'll have to try them.
I know this is completely random but...

Some of my favorite books, that are also fantasy, are any Tamora Pierce book. She is a phenomenal author. Currently, she has seven different series out, and they are all great. If you like more of the magical creatures and different spells in HP, combined with some history, you'll love her books.

I like the book Sweetblood it was kind of tense at a few parts.
It's about a 16 year old girl who is diabetic she is kind of obbsessed with blood actually no she just understands it. She has her own opinions on vampairs [i can't spell that!!] On her computer she goes into a Translevanian chatroom. She get involved with a creep called draco.
soon she gets involved with goth culture and late-night parties. Her life starts to fall apart.
i loved this book

but it was kind of creepy when draco gets her drunk and tells her lies.
(i promise she does not die this is not a sad book) sorry about the major plot spoiler.
I highly recomend this book.

The Bookshelf is a new content section on Veritaserum which will highlight and promote other, non-Harry Potter books that we think Harry Potter fans might like. Here's how it works: Veritaserum will publish a number of reviews in The Bookshelf section. After reading the review or after reading the reviewed book, you can come to that book's thread here in the forums to discuss it. Or, if you're just considering reading it, you can use the thread to find out whether or not you would enjoy it.
If you'd like, you can also submit your own book reviews. Just e-mail Matthew Heck through the feedback form for more information.
Use this thread to let us know which books you'd like us to review next. They can be absolutely anything. They don't have to be at all related to Harry Potter. Feel free to suggest books ranging from His Dark Materials to The Audacity of Hope -- there's something in a book for everyone!
Please remember that this thread is for the purpose originally stated in Matthews post and not for you to review your favourite books. If you wish to review a book then you should send it to Matthew Heck vis the feedback form as Matthew said.

I'm going to do The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke she's German.
I'm reading that now. its really good so far. Cornelia Funke is a really good writer. I recomend her series "Inkheart" its wonderfully written and its a really neat comcept to think about. Its basically about a man who can read things, people, ect out or into books. And the story is about how he reads out the Villain of the story, there is a second one called "Inkspell" and a third one coming out called "Inkdeath", "Inkheart is currently being made into a movie. It is a long book, but its a really cool series.
Also I have started reading this series, by Margaret Peterson Haddix. I think there are like, 6-8 books in all the first is called "Among the Hidden", all the tiles start with "Among" Its basically about how there was a large famine, so because of that the government only allowed 2 children per family so that a food shortage would never occur again. The Government in the book basically rules everything, there is no junk food and so forth. The story's main character is an illegal third child. Obviously because he isn't supposed to exist he has to live his life hidden in his house, and so on, so that the population police don't know that he exists. The punishment of a third child is death to the child and possibly to those who hid the child. It is really, really, well written and really supsensful.

Okay, I know this series has already been mentioned in this thread several times, but I want to bring them up as well. Hopefully with enough repetition, they'll get added to the list of books for us to review and talk about.
The Twilight series, by Stephanie Meyer, is absolutely amazing. She's already written 3 books in the series and there are 2 more in the making. I hope they get added so we can dive deep into the depths of those pages.

I just want to say that Series of Unfortunate Events is my favorite series following Fear Street by R.L.Stine.I Have read Letters to Beatrice and all I can say is with Daniel Handler puts me in one mystery, then another, and another, and another.I really was lost the first time I read the first book in his series.Let me go to Fear Street. This series is a horror, blood and guts kind of series.Robert Stine is a talented writer,ad sometimes sadly,a descriptive writer. You can see the hurders, the cold dead eyes, and of course, the pain. This is why I love it soo much!

They are amazing books over 1 million copies sold. Some of my other favorite books include A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer(this book is not for those who are extremly emotional it is very heart wrenching and depressing) , The Diary of Anne Frank, Memories of Anne Frank, Carribean Crusing by Rachel Hawthrone, and im currently reading Emma by Jane Austen and I am about 200 pages in its looks very good and I want to continue reading her marvelous works.
2 of my other all time favorite works are Izzy-Willy Nilly and Go Ask Alice both are very heart wrenching as well

I love Inheart & Inkspell, amazing & original ! I love Dustfinger to bits
People were talking about reading Maximum Ride by James Patterson, they're good but are too babyish to be taken seriously, I recommend reading
'When the wind blows' &
'The Lake House' which he's wrote first & also feature winged children (main star Max of corse) but they're are far better but are adults books.
Eragon & Eldest are some of the best of the best ! I actualy prefare them to the first three Harry Potters anyway, Saphira is excellent, one if not the best fictional charter !
The Power of Five seris by Anthony Hortwiz is well worth a read, its about five children with amazing powers which have to fight to save the world from the anicients (ruthless deamons)
The Artemis Fowl seris is fun & intresting too & younger readers might enjoy it a bit more.
Skulduggery Plesent people ! You's really
MUST read it ! Believe me you's won't regret it !
PLEASE tell me someone here has read ANYTHING by Marian Keyes ?????

I have not yet read this book although it's up on my shelf and has been for well over a year now. One of the many precursers to The Lord of the Rings - the Silmarilion. I would like an opinion on whether or not it's as hard to read as I've heard. The most common review I hear about it is it's like reading the bible - a difficult feat. So if someone has read it a review would be great, even a time frame on how long it might take? I do hope to get to it one day but it's in a long queue.
Thanks

The Silmarillion is a lot like reading an encylcopedia. There is some deep information on a lot of things, particularly the origins of all the peoples and much of their lore. I personally loved reading it.
That being said, the beginning is VERY dense. It is hard to understand, although not of profound importance in the very long run. Still, I took notes (primarlily on the relationships between people) when reading it so that I could keep everything in order. That way, when I ran into a name I did not remember, I did not need to search very far to rectify my ignorance.

There is this amazing book on autistic children you should consider reviewing. It is called "
The curious incident of the dog in the night-time" by
Mark Haddon. I don't know if this has been mentioned already. It is a great book. It narrates the story of an autistic kid who tries to figure out who killed the dog of the woman living next to him. Through his search, he comes up with other events concerning his life and he finds out things about his family. This book is so great because we have an insight on an autistic kid's brain. The character, Christopher, says he doesn't like people to touch him and that he prefers numbers from actual people because people are too complicating. And that he hates certain colours... It really reminds me of that movie, Autumn or something with Lyv Tyler. I really think you should talk about this book.

Alkisti I had to read that book for school and I think I was going to write about it here, and I'd written a huge posts on my books I recommend and then my computer had a fit and I lost the post and didn't want to write it again. But it's a great book, one of the best I've read, and even if it's not true many aspects of those characters were based on many different autistic characters that the author knew and had observed. It's a very easy read but really intersting and great to analyse both the main characters and the overall themes as I had to do in detail for school but I too highly recommend it.
Has anyone read "the Seeker, the Dark is Rising" becaus I went and saw it at the cinema's on Friday and didn't realise it was a book. Now as a movie I was a bit disappointed you just waited for something big to happen but even at the ned I was intrigued by the story and curious if anyone has read it what they thought of it?

I've got two books on my mind at the moment which I'm sure have probably been previously mentioned, so I'll second them.
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen : The romance, the humor and the insight of this story make it a wonderful novel. I'm not even sure how to approach going further in depth for the story is widely known and loved.
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee : The amazing story of the Finch family told by the youngest member, Scout. The story follows the family's adventures during rough times. Atticus Finch is a lawyer who is defending an African American man accused of rape. In this society, prejudice is common, so it's assumed that Atticus doesn't stand a chance in court.

To Kill a Mockingbird was amazing....i read it first in third grade, so i didn't really understand most of it, but i will have to read it for school next year and i can't wait...that's an awesome book!!

Those are al such good books! Oh I had to read this book for english last year but it was actually really good, Anthem. Yeah but it was really confusing until I figured that when he said 'we' it was just himself he was referring to... took me a while to figure that out.
Then another book is Of mice and Men. I thought it was really good! Incredibly sad yes and I didnt' like the ending but overall it was really good.
Oh and one more...
Polar the Titanic Bear: It's so good it's based on the true story of the toy Steiff polar bear. Like how his family survived. The Spedden's I think the little boys name was Matthew... if I remember it right. They had the bear on display at the Titanic museum and it reminded me of that book!

Ohh I love Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck! That book was wonderful!

I've read The Giver and A Wrinkle in Time I would totally recommend A Wrinkle in Time, but The Giver just didn't appeal to me. I've kinda always wanted to read Pride & Prejudice cause it's a classic. If a lot of you recommend it, then I might just read it.
