Full Version: Ronald Weasley - his appearance

By the time I got to the last chapter of Deathly Hallows I realized something. I had been picturing Ronald Weasley with long, shoulder-length hair the whole entire time since book five. I have no idea why- the book states that his hair isn't long at all and in the books leading up to it (1-4), his hair was short. Everything else is exactly the same- except for the length of the hair.

And this brings a question to mind- how do you picture him? Yes, we all know he's supposed to have a pointy-ish nose, blue eyes (never states it in the book, but JKR has said so), freckles upon freckles, and red hair. But what about other wise? Do picture him very lanky, or just thin? Face structure?

Curious...

Well, i have to say that iv always pictured ron when im reading, as he was in movie 4, with kinda longish hair, i think it suited him more though.
MissRandom
Maybe movie four rubbed off on me a bit too much and that's why I've been imagining him with longer hair. blink.gif

It's odd how movies can do that to you....

I've never really imagined ron in my head looking like rupert grint except when reading the first book.Since that movie i think they really messed up his charcter and i try to picture him as he's illustrated in the chapter pictures.

I picture him as a red haired kid with a lot of freckles, who's REALLY tall and wears clothes that are way too big for him. I dunno why, I just do. I also picture him with short hair, not long, no matter what Rupert Grint looks like.

I think that because of the films it has influenced my imagination, so now when I read most of the books I imagine the actor with slight diferences. Like Rupert Grint with a longer nose, shorter hair - very similar to the DH British cover Ron.

In DH I imagine him with long hair, a little shorter than in the GoF movie, but still long. I guess its because the trio has been on the run for all that time.

Also, I think he's not a very skinny kind of guy. I imagine him with the kind of body complexion of a 17 year old who has done some work out. I've never imagined him skinny. I think Harry is thinner than Ron, just like we know he's smaller than him, and I believe this is because of Ron's healthier upbringing.

I'm not saying I picture Ron chubby or very muscled, no. I'm just saying I cannot imagine him skinny...

This is how I mostly picture him: click here (this is a very nice drawing I found while browsing online)

I've been re-reading the books and I'm at #5 now. Thankfully, I haven't had Rupert making a sudden appearence (I never thought I'd ever type that). I'm doing better at seeing him as a very freckled, very tall, and sort of lanky kid. For some reason the freckles increased sicne book 3 (in my head). How very odd. The only thing that is really confusing me is why he's got this blondish tint to the red. I think the Phelps twins influsenced me here somewhat... >.>

In all of the Harry Potter books they describe Ron as tall and lanky with a long nose and lots of freckles. That picture that you had fits a perfect description of what I picture Ron to be. I always have all along with long hair. A mixture of Rupert Grint and the book illustrations would be a perefect picture of him in my head.

I think that Rupert Grint fits the description of Ron Weasley pretty good. I don't find either (Rupert or Ron) particularly attractive, as I am instead attracted to brunettes (like Dan Radcliffe! wub.gif )

Rupert was cuter as a child, as in the first film. But, IMO - and this is just my opinion mind you, so no need for getting all upset with me - he just didn't age well. And, he's a bit too eccentric for my taste. Also, I don't think he is as attractive as Dan, or some of the other male eye candy on the sets of the Harry Potter movies! wink.gif

Rupert is a Ron Weasley with every inch of his red hair..seriously I have imagined Ron just like Rupert..of course the ginger hair...I never managed to imagine him with a long nose.. and therefore Rupert is even more fitting into my imagination...then well rather taller I have to add but the facial expression, the cheeky comments and the acting skills of Rupert make a all in all perfect Ronald Bilius Weasley to me.. happy.gif

I think it is really nice to see it from your point of view Dumbledore's Widow because in some parts, especially concerning his eccentricity I completely agree and I never thought Ron could be even slightly attractive either when I now think about it...nor do I think that Dan is a real eye candy..lol...but thats just my taste wink.gif
but yeah you have good points as well..so no being upset from my side happy.gif

See, I didn't start on the books until the movies were already out and I was into those. So it was a little hard for me to come up with something in my head. I'm at OotP now (reading it) and he keeps popping abckt o long hair like Rupert....very odd. He was like that in my mind all the way through DH, too, mostly. I'm trying to block it out....

Dan is ok. He's not so much what I picture Harry as, but he's ok looking for the part. Sometimes he can be really hot, but then there's these really BAD pctures off him and it's a total turn-off.

I do agree that there are others besides Rupert that are more attractive, in some ways. But mainly just a different way. Like the twins....rarr....

I always pictured ron with short hair and those bulging eyes coming out of the sockets -- in a good way, although whenever i read the books i always think about the real thing happening :] its our imagination running :]

I think that the image Rupert gives us in the movies has affected the way we all imagined him afterwards, while reading the books. I like Rupert as Ron, but I don't think it's too good that it affects the way we imagine ron in the books, we should all have our own picture of him inside our heads. But now his face is all over posters instead, so it's getting kind of tough. hehe

Cheers,
x

See, ever since the books came out, Ron is Rupert Grint. That is exactly how i picture him for everything now. I can't help it. Blame it on the Cinema. As for before the harry potter movies came out.

Taller then Harry with thousands of freckles and this pale look to him, like a lot of redheaded kids have. Brown eyes and a lopsided smile.
EMILUBE37
I think Rupert in the 5th movie was how I always imagined him, but with slightly shorther hair. He doesn't have as many freckles either. I've personally never had much of a problem in the way he looks. wink.gif
