ooo i have tought of one

doesnt it say in alot of the books that hermiones speciality is those little blue fires you can carry around in a jar?

im sure of it let me know!
trtrzgunners
Hermione-Petrificus Totalus? (She seems to do it alot in duels, and also use it in her first year)

another one:

Voldermort-Avada Kedavra
candice
I remember Hermione using this spell on their first year, during the Quidditch match, when they thought Snape was trying to make Harry fall! But I can't remember when she used it again.
Sir Cadogan
Ron's specialty was Stupefy. Remember what Tonks said about Ron, in the chapter that Moody died? And he seemed to use Stupefy a lot in the Deathly Hallows, while Harry used Expelliarmus obsessively...

Hermione is good at every spell except for Expecto Patronum and the Unforgivables, really! Don't you agree?
Vincent
Interesting topic. The only other one I can really think of now is Ginny's bat-bogey hex. I' ll try and think of some more though.
HarryPotter_28
i dont know if this is one but ginny performs the 'reducto' spell very good so maybe that is her speciality... and i also agree with voldermort's being avada kedavra. but harry is exceptionally good at exprecto patronum so i think that is his speciality spell. all the other characters cant do expecto patronum as well as he does it... just my thoughts
Pawprint
Oh, just like Vincent said, I think Ginny's signature spell is the bat bogey hex. Not only she gets into the Slug Club because of it, but there is a slight mention of her during OotP by the twins. They actually tell Harry she's really good at it. Not that it is a very good defensive spell, but I think someone (probably Hermione) said that it wasn't very easy to perform and Ginny was famous for being quite good at it.

Of course Harry has expelliarmus: not only Remus says so, but it's actually Voldemort's killing spell and even though Harry is pretty good at doing the patronus, in the end even Luna and the others come to help.

Hermione... I don't quite know which spell could be her signature one, but definitely not the patronus one.
nauatilis
ginny likes 2 use a Bogey Bat hex, thats like her signature spell rite there
LovelyLilyPotter
I actually think that The patronus is Harrys one, because he perfected it at a young age, and does it reguarly (that is when he's not about to die!)
And Voldermort-Obviously Avada Kedavra
Albus Dumbledore
I wouldn't say that Dumbledore has a signature spell, but he most certainly has a signature elemental motif woven into his spells. Who doesn't think of Dumbledore when they think of fire spells? His close ties to the Phoenix, his choice of showing Tom Riddle magic via the lighted wardrobe, saving Harry and himself from the Inferi, etc etc.

Fire is Dumbledore. Heck, his body was engulfed into a column of flames before he was entombed.

Heya

Great topic so here is my list;
Harry: Patronus charm or Expelliarmus
Ron: I think it is Stupefy
Hermione: Her blue fire
Bellatrix: Cruciatus curse
Voldemort: Killing Curse/ Avada Kedavra

There they are I can't think others that use a spell more than once.

Harry is both the patronus charm and expelliarmus: used in very different situations.
hermione does not have one as of yet: those little blue fires were the magic she learned in first year. She must have learned some more complex things since then
Fred and george: I need some help on this one!
Oooh, I just thought of one that seems quite clever to me:
Hagrid: engorgement charm. It is one of the only things he can do with his umbrella (the other 2 being dudley's tail and a charm to speed up a boat). Plus, it fits!

Actually, Hagrid used aguamenti (the water charm) using his umbrella when his hut caught on fire in OOTP. Here's my theory:

Ginny- Bat bogey
Harry- Expelliarmus/ Accio (summoning spell)
Voldemort- Avada Kedavra
Bellatrix- Cruciatus
Ron- Stupefy
Hermione-Alohamora
Snape- Legilimens
Dumbledore- Homenum Revelio (revealing human presence in a room)

Ok, i agree with some. Like Harry and the disarming charm (expelliarmus). That is definitely his signature spell (Lupin even tells him not to make that his signature spell). And Ginny with the bat Bogey Hex. But people like Hermione, there is no way she has a signature spell, in my opinion. It says in the second book that coungering blue waterproof fires were a speciality of Hermiones. But if it was her signinture spell wouldn't she use it throughout all of the books? and as far as im aware she only uses it in the first two. In the chamber of secrets Hagrid says 'and they haven't invented a spell our Hermione cant do' So in a way i thik every spell is her signature spell. I don't think Ron uses a signature spell, not that i have no ticed.

Here are the signature spells I can think of:

Harry: Expelliarmus
Snape: Sectumsempra
Ginny: Bat Bogey Hex
Voldemort: (isn't it obvious?) Avada Kedavra

I'll think of more soon.

yea, i agree with you on Hermione...the beauty of her character is that she ends up learning more (and learning that there are things more important) than the knowledge of spells she initially possessed, which means that to establish her character, she would have to be brilliant in every scholarly subject. That being said, if she did have a signature spell, I believe it would be alohamora; it's very symbolic in that as the spell unlocked doors in times of peril/need, she was always reliable during such times of peril to unlock a mystery or secret. As for Fred and George, adding to my previous post, I would have to say their patented engorgement charms on the ton-tongue toffee!!
The Happy Dementor
hmmmm....interesting thread....

lets see...

I agree....

Harry: Expelliarmus
Voldy: Avada Kedavra
Snape: Sectumsempra
Ginny: Bat Bogey

and then....

Bellatrix: Crucio
Lockhart: Obliviate
Hermione: Pertificus Totalus (sp?)

smelliarmus

Harry: Expelliarmus
Ginny: Bat bogey hex
Ron: Stupefy
Dumbledore: Fire magic
Lockhart: Obliviate
McGonagall: Cat transformation
Voldemort: Avada Kedavra
Bellatrix: Crucio
Snape: Sectumsempra

Thats all I can think of at the moment. It might make a good quiz, finding out what spell your personality is best suited to.
Pendulum
I'm thinking:
Harry - Expelliarmus. I can see where people are coming from about the Patronus but expelliarmus is the spell that defines Harry - it's what the Death Eaters used to see which version of Harry is the real Harry. And, to top it all off, it's the spell that he uses to finish Voldemort off, so it's gotta be Expelliarmus.
Ron - Stupefy
Hermione - I think she's a good all rounder, if i had to choose it might be one of the anti-muggle enchantments she uses to stop them being detected in DH. Kind of ironic as she was once a muggle herself.
Voldemort - Avada Kedavra [of course]
Snape - It's gotta be Sectumsempra, as he made it up himself
James - Levicorpus
Crabbe - Gotta be the cursed fire, as i think it's pretty much the only magic we see him do
Dumbledore - I agree with Albus Dumbledore on this point - I think he ties himself up a lot with fire, but i can't really pinpoint a spell. I guess if I had to choose it would be the spell he uses to repel the inferi in HBP
Ginny - Bat-Bogey Hex
Bellatrix - Cruciatus Curse
Umbridge - Incarcatius because of when she uses it on the centaurs
McGonnagal - I see someone put further up that her's is to morph into a cat, but that isn't really a spell, more a type of ability, so I would say her spell is some kind of transfiguration spell, like Fereverto.
Flitwick - Has to be Wingardium Leviosa (:
Lupin - I think probably the Patronus charm as it's the first spell we see him use and he is also the one who teaches Harry to use it. Either that or Riddikulus (because he taught it to the third years and he also used to the get rid of the boggart that upset Mrs.Weasley in OotP).
Can't really think of any others, be interesting to hear your thoughts though (:
