ok guys I am sorry to even be asking this...but what does it mean when JKR makes a Wizard ''Wizard of the Month''? I have been searching but havent come across the answer yet...I need to know...
passerby
It's just an area on her website at the upper right hand corner where she dedicates a wizard to that month. If you click on the little calendar page with the wizard of the month on it, it offers you a little snippet of information about that particular famous wizard. There's really nothing more than that about it other than some fun factoids and other wizards that we don't always hear about in the books. I think the Lexicon has a list of all of the past Wizards of the Month.

OMG ok...I got what I was confused about when I read your reply and re-read the info on the new Wizard of the Month...lol! wacko.gif

Thank you passerby smile.gif

It's really nice to see one of the wizards of our generation (the seven years we know most about) being finally put into Wizard of the Month. The spoiler part is amazing, specially if we know that it happened actually this year!

I hope to see more wizards that we know about on "Wizard of the month" from now on!
Congratulations to Harry on this event!
Arcturus
I hope to see Gellert Grindelwald as one of the new Wizards of the Month, because I like the images that have been accompanying the captions — I already have my own image of what Grindelwald looks like, but it'd be interesting to see what Lightmaker would come up with. Does anyone know if JKR has any say in developing the appearance of those graphics?
Potions Mistress
Arcturus, I certainly might be wrong, please correct me if I am, but I would much doubt Gellert Grindelwald ever becoming a Wizard of the Month. Despite his initial friendship with Dumbledore so many years ago, he has turned out rather on the evil side in the end.

I understand the concept of the Wizard of the Month rather as a way of acknowledging some deeds done by distinguished witches and wizards. Though Grindelwald's plans certainly were grand they were at the same time evil and thus negative. But as I've said, I might be wrong and even he will be acknowledged some time in future. Because undoubtedly, he was a great wizard, after all.

And Kaitlyn, I love your mathematics. smile.gif Maths has never been one of my strongest skills, so I have never given the idea of the children any thought, but it seems that you are right.

And like you, I am also looking forward to seeing some more well-known witches or wizards as Wizards of the Month. I was thinking of Hermione, actually. After all, she is the brightest witch of her age, so I think she would certainly deserve the honor. But then, when there appear witches and wizards who we don’t know first-hand from the books, we might at the same time learn something new and interesting about the wizarding world. So in other words, I’m actually looking forward to whoever will be the next. smile.gif

Well Arcturus I certainly agree that I wish to see artwork on Grindelwald! Possibly for different reasons...that I wont state here for fear of starting another big thing about Dd...lol laugh.gif Someday maybe, but not today.

As for the wizard of the month, I'm like most of the people here, in that I absolutly love the Wizard of the Month! I love the extra information that comes with the announcement; things we didn't know and that add to the character! Potions Mistress I love your idea for Hermoine. I think her and Ron both deserve an award for Wizard of the month. Both having been through most of it with Harry and grown so much. I'd put a vote in for Sirius, Lupin and Snape too! wink.gif

They may have been a trio and gone through things as a team, but, it was Harry who always seemed to actually go through the real dangers. He was the one who actually went through the trials and tribulations and the pain, and all because of Voldemort's insane determination to kill him. So, Harry deserved being Wizard of the month.

Does Hermione deserve this honor? I think so. She was after all, the brightest witch of her age. So I would agree that she too is deserving of being Wizard of the month. Not many females have had this honor.

But Ron. I don't think so. He didn't do anything spectacular. He did what had to be done. Like Neville and the other students at Hogwarts did. If Ron were to get Wizard of the month, then so should Neville and many of the other students.

Miss_Mimz
Well, Dumbledore's Widow I do think that most the kinds in D.A. would eventually deserve to be awarded wizard of the month. Not many wizards and witches their age accomplish what they have in such a short amount of time. I know that most wizards awarded wizard of the month were wizards for hundreds of years, but I would say that we dont know if they would have accomplished so much so early. And I am not trying to diminish their accomplishments so bear with me blush.gif

Just that the Witches and wizards of the D.A faced exceptional circumstances at a young age that tested their true selves, and they all came out brave and true heroes!

As for Ron himself, I do agree, he seems and probably is less brave than Harry and Hermoine but he still showed incredible bravery and strength. Yes he was tested and yes sometumes he seemed to fail. But he was still a great wizard especially that he and Harry became aurors and worked for the auror departement as they both did smile.gif

...Wow I hope I'm making sense! I do see your point of view but I felt I had to share mine too cool.gif

Hmmm. . .wizard of the month, who do you think will be next?
As to the trio deserving to be wom, I think all have gave what they were supposed to do, so each deserved to placed only one at a time as it’s a celebration for one wizard for the entire month. They can’t be a whole if one of them is not around. Ron was there because he makes them face their problems lighter, he uses his sense of humour to let them continue discussing their problems, without him, the two were unable to talk to each other much because they felt the empty space that was filled by Ron.
After the Burial
I rather liked the spoiler informing us of Harry's success. I find it a bit peculiar that he would be an auror, given that he wanted to make sure he was never defeated (thus losing the Elder Wand). It seems odd that he would continuously face Dark Wizards when he has such an obvious target on him. Then again, he was a Gryffindor, and would not slink away from the challenge.

Has anyone checked out JKR site today. Wizard of the month is actually an archive of 42 wizards that have been wizard of the month up day HArry Potter. I wonder what this means. Seems a bit odd to me. Maybe the guy who draws the pictures hasn't caught up yet and needs a month or two before giving JKR the next one wink.gif
Miss_Mimz
omg! I just checked etphonehome Hmmmm...

I wonder if she's gonna stop awarding ''Wizard of the Month'' now that the books are done? Seems kinda fitting for Harry to be the last wizard ti receive such an award! Just a thought here though... smartass.gif

I kinda hope she still awards wizard of the month though...so many other wizards are deserving! smile.gif

I understand the concept of the Wizard of the Month rather as a way of acknowledging some deeds done by distinguished witches and wizards.

but i was looking through them and i found a few that didnt really have any admirable deeds.
Here are a few:
Erica Stainwright
Tarquin McTavish
and
Yardley Platt
(if you want to look at them look at the archived wizards of the month on JK's site smile.gif )

I think the Wizard of the Month is just a way to acknowledge Wizards in general, not just the ones that helped Wizarding society,-- because dont get me wrong, there are many admirable wizards in wizard of the month,-- but the ones that also did not help wizarding society. I think shes honors wizards that impacted the society in some way whether good or bad.
So i think it is very possible that Gellert Grindewald will be "honored" because he did impact the society, even though it was in a horrible way, but he still impacted it.
And it may not be that they even impacted the society-- it may be that they are famous for something in general, not something neccissarily great, but famous --or infamous-- for something that they did.

I hope that she continues Wizard of the Month-- there are some very interesting witches and wizards, and i would like to learn more about some more!!

P.S. Im rele glad she honored the founders!!

Wow, despite this thread is like off, I wanted to say that I think wizard of the month is wicked interesting, because that teach us a bit more about wizarding world. And I always wander around JK's site to know whether she updated something else, but I'm never lucky. Today I entered again, since my last visit was long ago, and find a little updating, about the prequel she wrote. But the wizard of the month card is still on Harry. sad.gif I'd like to see more!
