What is the first word that comes to mind when you think of Severus Snape?

Oh, I have to agree with witchmom-SEXY! wub.gif Even though his physical description in the book is not appealing, I can't help thinking of his on screen appearance. The black clothes with all those buttons, his silky voice ( I think witchmom and I have alot in common),his long black hair, and those pursed lips. I also love how "in your face" he gets when he's trying to intimidate people.

Who knew Severus best; Dumbledore or Lily? Is it an unfair comparison because Lily is a childhood friend and Dumbledore an adult friend?

I do think it's an unfair comparison because Lily only knew him as a child/teen and Dumbledore knew him for most of his life. That being said, I believe DD knew him better. He knew his bad side, but he also knew most of the reasons for his actions. Lily didn't understand him completely and she also didn't know how much he loved her. Dumbledore knew how much Severus loved Lily and he used that knowledge to attain Severus' help protecting Harry.

I don't know, I think that if he did see parts of Lily's personality in Hermione, he would discourage her for answering quickly and being intelligent. He wouldn't want to have Hermione stand out in any way as to draw that comparison to Snape. I think it would be especially difficult for Severus to have Hermione be particularly brilliant in Potions simply because Lily was brilliant in Potions...a natural as Slughorn had said. I think any reminder of Lily in Hermione is just going to cause Severus pain and cause him to push her further away by alienating her and trying to instill feelings of inferiority in her. He is not going to be nice to her at all.

ya, its quite possible that Severus would try to discourge Hermione in anger that she would outcast Lily.. It sounds sane..But would Hermione make his remember Lily to this extend?

one word that comes to my mind, when I think of Severus is "Lily".... yes, Lily... because I think he first lived for her and then he lived to keep her last wish alive, to keep Harry safe..

I think, Dumbledore knew him the best... Lily only knew a Part of him (like she died know excatly the reason why he was attracted for being a Death Eater and nor did she know that he loved her very much)... while Dumbeldore knew every part of him.. from the part which really wanted to discontinue as a Death Eater to the part which loved Lily immensely...

I think it's unfair to do a comparison, reason, as I stated above.

What is the first word that comes to mind when you think of Severus Snape?
Snake. He always turns up where you don't expect him to, and the way he talks reminds me of that too. He is also quite mysterious in some ways.

Who knew Severus best; Dumbledore or Lily? Is it an unfair comparison because Lily is a childhood friend and Dumbledore an adult friend?
Dumbledore because he is always mysterious in the way he knows everyone so well, and he understands.

Hello everyone,

Miss this thread hehe!!!
What is the first word that comes to mind when you think of Severus Snape?

Bittersweet, Severus is like a dark chocolate, taste good when you know how to appreciate the sweetness inside the coated bitterness; only when you understand him can you really appreciate him.

Who knew Severus best; Dumbledore or Lily? Is it an unfair comparison because Lily is a childhood friend and Dumbledore an adult friend?

I would give that credit to Dumbledore, because he tried to understand and believe when no one would. Then, Dumbledore really did understand Severus where even Lily his childhood friend didn't. Dumbldedore saw Severus in both his most ugly and beautiful sides.

I didn't think that it was an unfair comparison, because there are no boundaries or measurement of friendship.

It has been argued that everyone has a choice in what ever matter they are dealing with.

My question is Did Severus have a choice when he called Lily "mudblood"? What I mean is was he too deeply involved in the Slytherin way of thinking that it just came out against his will or was he trying to protect himself (and Lily) by allowing it to come out of his mouth so his friends wouldn't think he was a traitor or a mugglelover? Does that make sense? Did Severus just blurt it out without considering the consequences or did he make a logical decision based on his circumstances?

I think it is important to discuss this because this is the event which really sets Severus down his path.

I honestly have my own idea about it and it's pretty simple.
A male adolescent who has been already bullied by a group of stupid kids, for a long time we can suppose.
His best friend, the girl he loves, watching him bullied.
A borderline situation.

Do you think that he would thank her for defending him? can't she possibly see that for a young male is sort of a shame to be defended by a girl? No, he can't thank her. He hates her in that precise moment. He is defenceless, bullied, humiliated in front of the whole school and in front of the girl he loves. And, instead of letting him confront his enemies, although in that moment it means only that he is beaten and humiliated, she tries to mediate and to defend him using her power on her admirers.
No way... It's like she's saying that he's unable to fight, he's not a man. How can he regain his male position? just insulting her, being a rude boy.

So...I don't see it as a Slytherin VS Gryffindor thing. I don't see it as a Muggle VS Pureblood thing. It's just adolescent dynamics going on there, in my opinion. Maybe because I am a teacher and I observe a lot.

He burst out because he was in a critical state. He could have insulted her in another way, with other words, but imho what he wanted to say was just "mind your own business, I have a dignity to preserve here, don't play mum and son, leave me alone".

That's why he tried to tell her he was sorry. If it was a plan, he wouldn't have let the whole school see him out of the Gryffindor quarters for days.

What is the first word that comes to mind when you think of Severus Snape?

I don't know...I'd probably have to say tortured or maybe haunted they just seem to fit him. Severus was tortured by everything and everyone around him (with the possible exception of a few people) until his very unsatisfactory death. He was just as has been previously mentioned...misunderstood. And obviously when we don't understand something or someone chances are we will scorn or treat it/them different from what we're used to. Haunted fits his character because he was always haunted by his past and his thoughts. It was hard for him, I think, to live that way. So yeah, these are two words that I think fit our dear Snape very well...like a second skin.

I don't know about sexy though...but that's just me. laugh.gif

Did Severus have a choice when he called Lily "mudblood"?

I think...he did have a choice, but his involvement with the 'dark side' didn't help him make the right choice and as I previously said he was always misjudged by everyone, so by siding with the Slytherins and calling her a mudblood...well we all know how that went. I think that he regretted it later though. My belief is that he was just so angry at being humiliated by Potter and his freinds that he just took it out on her. So he probably just blurted it out, and in so doing lost his first and only love (and his best friend). Well I better stop before I start contradicting myself.

P.S Sorry I've been away so long, but school keeps me very busy. Good questions.
Peace,
-Karina

I think Severus lashed out and called Lily "mudblood" in anger and didn't think about it before hand. I think he was so embarrassed that she witnessed James and his gang harassing him and also embarrassed by the fact that she was defending him, making him feel inadequate, that he just wanted her to disappear-to not be there witnessing his humiliation. I don't think it was a calculated decision on his part at all, but the fact that he used the term "mudblood" does lead me to believe he was deeply involved in the Slytherin way of thinking, even though I don't think he extended that prejudice towards Lily. She was held separate from other muggleborns by Severus because he loved her so much. sad.gif

Hi again,

I hope I could pop in here and post more often than the past months.

So here's mine. . .

Severus blurted out “mudblood” because of too much humiliation and anger. He was again being bullied by Potter’s gang; he was in a state pf too much embarrassment because he was unable to fight back. Then came Lily, the girl he like and she was telling James to lay off; but instead of helping the situation, Severus felt humiliated a thousand fold. Of all people, Lily was not the person that Severus needed at that moment; she was after all the same girl that he and James liked and James was telling Lily that he will back off only when she go out with him. Severus would have said anything to divert Lily’s attention and to save his face even for that little moment. It was not because Severus was too immersed in the principles of Slytherin. It was also not a choice because he was in a state wherein he could not think before doing or saying anything at all.
nevillesgirl
Clara, I love your answer. It is well thought out and gives a different persepctive on the entire situation.

QUOTE

This was the source of his humiliation. I think Severus was so used to being tease in front of the whole school by Potter and Sirius that it just made him made. But when he was being humiliated in front of Lily, his best friend and love of his life, he just had to make himself look better. The humiliation that Severus needed a girl to fight for him was unbearable. I can see that point.

My question is Did Severus have a choice when he called Lily "mudblood"? My take on the situation is slightly different. I believe that Severus absolutely knew what he was saying, when he said it. My reasoning is that he knew that any kind of hint that he was in love with Lily would not only put himself in danger but her as well. If he was already aspiring to become a Death Eater (follower of Voldemort) then he knew what was unacceptable in their eyes and loving Mudblood Lily was totally unacceptable. I also think that he underestimated Lily and her friendship for him. Severus counted on her to really know him, to understand that he cared about her and cherished their friendship. He expected that she would be upset when he called her that slur but also thought that once he explained, she would really understand why he did it. The problem was he really never got to explain. Lily already made up her mind and wouldn't listen or consider his point so Severus never really explained but was more on the defensive...groveling to her actually.

The reason I don't think it just slipped out against his will is that the Severus we know always had an agenda. He was always in control, always learning; he wouldn't have allowed emotions to overtake him to where he said something he didn't mean just to say it.

Severus was always deliberate about what he said and his actions. The use of Mudblood is very derogatory and he knew what type of reaction it would cause. This was part of his agenda, he was moving in a direction that would jeopardize anyone that was in contact with him. Snape knew that to become a Death Eater he would have to sever all ties with Lily and this would be the best way to do it. Unfortunately, Severus didn't count on the fact that his love for her was more powerful than his desire to be a Death Eater.

Sorry I've been away for so long but I've been super busy with academics and battling illness. But I'm just here to quickly post.

As Fanfic Coordinator, I would love to get one rolling soon, so I was hoping for you members to come up with some great ideas to add to the few (and I mean very few) ideas we have already. It doesn't matter how silly you think it is...just come up with something and post it here, or PM me. I'm hoping to get an idea solidified by the end of next week so that means I'm counting on you all! biggrin.gif

I think on the same lines as clara...

Severus was soo much humiliated by James and Sirius that he did not want to look like a dweeb and so, he did not want others to feel that he needed any backing of a girl... He would not have tolerated to face his death eater friends, who would then tease him for this reason.. He did not want to give James a reason to tell him that they left him only because Lily told them to do so... He loved her and he wanted to protect her and could not tolerate the thought that instead she protected him...

Hmmm, ideas for a fanfic. Let me search my brain.

1. Severus is in his first year teaching and is afraid of the upcoming Halloween feast. Why?

2. Severus is slipped a love potion and you won't believe who he thinks he is in love with and who is jealous.

3. Severus has just invented a new potion. The key ingredient is the addition of the potionmaker's favorite color. This drastically alters the strength and outcome of the potion.

Okay, so these are my feeble attempts to come up with ideas...I would really appreciate if some of the devoted members of SOSS besides myself and Dayna to toss out some ideas. Also, comment on the ones you are most or least interested in. Let us give Nick something to do as Fanfic Coordinator.

Let me just first say I'm not a very creative person sad.gif , but here are my two ideas for a fanfic:

1. Severus gets stuck spending Christmas at Grimmauld Place(5th year I think) because for some reason he can't disapparate after an order meeting. Will the Weasley's, Harry, Sirius be gracious hosts? Will there be animosity? Will Severus receive a Christmas present?

2. During Hermione's search for the identity of the Half Blood Prince during their 6th year, she finds out it's Severus before she gets a chance to tell Harry and Ron about it. Since she finds out in time for Snape's birthday, she sends him an anonymous note and gift. Will he figure out who sent it-especially after he suspects Harry is the one with his old potions schoolbook? Will he confront Hermione and open up to her?

Finally, I like nevillesgirl's idea about the love potion much better than either of my ideas.

There you are! wacko.gif

Well Im going to assume his friends were there. aND since slytherins are all into the Dark arts, it would seem suspicious not to call her that. also, james might consider that severus and lily were close, and just imagine what would happen then...ok, i have to go, or im going to get in trouble for staying up too late...yeah 9:17pm is really late on the weekend isn't? (sarcastic moment there...) ta-ta!

how about... snape telling lily about his feelings during their school life and then lily reforms him by her caring nature for him..
or, snape's potion making ability can be used in some adventures like that of gilderoy's.. (frankly, I cannot excatly mention how the adventures would be..)
what do you guys thin?

Oh, oh oh! I have an idea for the fanfic (I don't know how good it is, or if any of you will like it, but it was a spur of the moment idea.)

We know Snape got the elder wand in DH, and how he sadly died. What did he endure during this journey, what type of difficulties did he have to get through to get this elder wand? Yes, we know about Dumbledore, but this is the biggest point- through is POV (Maybe not first person, but the story told through his mind.) what do you think was going through his mind to get the elder wand, when he killed DD, and finally, when Nagini bites him?

I don't know if it makes sence, like I said this was a spur of the moment idea. If you guys don't fully understand, let me know and I'll explain it more smile.gif

And while I'm here, I'll answer this question!

I honestly think that he was mad at Lily for calling him out. She was in the middle of telling him that she didn't like his friends, and regardless of how in love with Lily he was, he was hearing bad things about his friends, which I'm sure made him mad. People say things they don't mean when they're mad, and I think this is one reason he said it.
Also, like many of you have said, he didn't want to look like a fool for needing Lily. James was also into Lily, and because James tormented him so much, I think he was a bit intimidated by him, and if James found out that greasy Sev was in love with her, I'm sure he would have been tourmented much worse. And also, the Slytherins would never let Snape be with a Griffyndor, espically a muggle-born, so I think Snape was trying to play the part of the Slytherin/Death Eater.
It's a lot like Muggle high school, with the cliques, friends and steriotypes. mad.gif

Well, I think Severus loved Lily very much and she disappointed him, which made him both sad and mad at her, and he couldn't control himself. I think that many people, including me, say bad things when we are angry, especially to people who we care about! Another reason may be that Severus had pride, and he shouldn't have seemed to like Lily in front of the other Slytherins and James, and he wanted to protect their friendship by not letting anyone know about it. Just my opinion.

I didnt quick get you.... and Snape was not the true master of the elderwand.. it was draco who first disarmed Dumbledore.. so it was his, remembe? as Harry told Voldemort in Deathly Hallows.. still explain your idea a bit more...
HarryPotterIsLife
No problem! I didn't really think it out, I just had the idea and posted. But I'll try to explain and revise it more.

Voldemort had to kill Snape to get the Elder Wand, so the story idea could be told through his point of view, or through his thoughts (Like the way HP is told, I forgot what person that's considered.) Alongside that, what do you think was going through his mind throughout his journey in HBP and DH- from the beginning with the unbreakable vow with Draco's mother, to discovering Harry had his old potions book, the scene on top of the tower when he kills DD, and to when he dies in DH.

Sort of, dig into his mind more, what we all think he was thinking throughout these moments that defined the last few years of his life.

I hope that makes more sence. If not, just ignore my ramblings cool.gif

Sam
Radcliffefreek
no no... got your point.. but it would be difficult to build all things up.. like from the unbreakable vow to the end of HBP because we all know what has to happen at other end of Snape, so you know, it would be difficult to write Snape's thoughts keeping in mind all moves of Harry(as we know it).. Still, I think its better if Amanda and Nick suggest their views on this, am a bit confused about the proccedings..
HarryPotterIsLife
True, true. We could also cut down the time span. I've always wanted to get into Snape's mind a little bit, we learn a lot about him throughout the series, but never really get into his mind, you know?

We'll see what other people think tongue.gif Speaking of others- where is other people's ideas? Get those brains going! I'll start baking again like I used to when S.O.S.S got quiet. Guys, where'd you go!?

PS- I forgot to mention this in my last post, but welcome to S.O.S.S Flippy ! The more Snape loves the better!

SOSS BULLETIN **October**
Hello snapefans. October is a particularly difficult time in the life of Severus Snape. It is the month in which Lily, the love of his life was murdered by his Master. I want to start off the bulletin by announcing that if you have not checked out the SOSS website yet or have PMed me to have your name added to the memberlist, please do so.

Congratulations to lisasnape...the winner of September Snape Devotee of the Month!! The winning post is found below. Please join me in congratulating lisasnape for a job well done.

~Nick and I are excited to get a collaborative fanfic dedicated to our beloved Severus, just for us members. We have narrowed the choices down to these two finalist. Please Please post your favorite in this thread as soon as possible. If the member don't tell us which they prefer, then Nick and I will pick it ourselves. Here are your choices...

1. Severus is in his first year teaching and is afraid of the upcoming Halloween feast. Why?

2. Severus gets stuck spending Halloween at Grimmauld Place(5th year I think) because for some reason he can't disapparate after an order meeting.

Which ever the winning choice is, Nick and I will set some guidelines so that we all have some rules when writing this fanfic.

~And now some questions...

What song do you think best describes Severus and in which stage of his life? Be sure you post a link to the lyrics or audio of the song, or simply post the lyrics directly here.

I was thinking about Severus' dissatisfying death. If given the chance to face off with Voldemort, do you think he would have done so? Is Severus as strong or stronger than Voldemort in terms of magical ability? Would Severus have tried to kill Voldemort or, like Dumbledore would he have chosen to try and capture him instead?

If anyone else has questions to contribute please feel free to post them. Have at it Snapefans...

What song do you think best describes Severus and in which stage of his life? Be sure you post a link to the lyrics or audio of the song, or simply post the lyrics directly here.

There is a song by The Cure that makes me think of Severus with regards to his love and his loss of Lily. It's called "Pictures of You". I think the last three "paragraphs" of the song could represent the regrets Severus has about the disintegration of his relationship with Lily. The Cure makes me thing of Severus in general because their music is so morose and Sev's life was so sad. Here are the lyrics:

I've been looking so long at these pictures of you
That I almost believe that they're real
I've been living so long with my pictures of you
That I almost believe that the pictures are
All I can feel

Remembering
You standing quiet in the rain
As I ran to your heart to be near
And we kissed as the sky fell in
Holding you close
How I always held close in your fear
Remembering
You running soft through the night
You were bigger and brighter and wider than snow
And screamed at the make-believe
Screamed at the sky
And you finally found all your courage
To let it all go

Remembering
You fallen into my arms
Crying for the death of your heart
You were stone white
So delicate
Lost in the cold
You were always so lost in the dark
Remembering
You how you used to be
Slow drowned
You were angels
So much more than everything
Hold for the last time then slip away quietly
Open my eyes
But I never see anything

If only I'd thought of the right words
I could have held on to your heart
If only I'd thought of the right words
I wouldn't be breaking apart
All my pictures of you

Looking so long at these pictures of you
But I never hold on to your heart
Looking so long for the words to be true
But always just breaking apart
My pictures of you

There was nothing in the world
That I ever wanted more
Than to feel you deep in my heart
There was nothing in the world
That I ever wanted more
Than to never feel the breaking apart
All my pictures of you

I think Severus would have dueled with Voldemort, but only if he knew it wouldn't interfere with the prophecy. He already felt awful that his initial meddling led to Lily's death, so I think he would have had to have been absolutly sure that he wasn't messing up Harry's chance at offing Voldemort once and for all.

I think Severus and Voldemort were equally matched magically. Severus definitely had the upper hand in Occlemency, and potions. Voldemort obviously had his horicruxes which were very powerful magic. And they were both talented at Legilimency and spells. Voldemort was very rash though, and Sev was extremely thought out, so maybe he was a little stronger. Also, Sev's Occlemncy was more powerful than Voldy's Legilimency so, yes I now think Severus was definitely stronger.

I believe Severus would have tried to kill Voldemort. He had enough hatred for Voldemort to be able to perform the killing curse and he would have wanted to avenge Lily.

Hi,

I've really got a very short time right now, I'll come back soon.

I will choose for our fanfic only for this time.

2. Severus gets stuck spending Halloween at Grimmauld Place(5th year I think) because for some reason he can't disapparate after an order meeting.

I was always curious on how Severus will react when stuck with the people of the Grimmauld Place especially on Christmas.

Just this only for now. sad.gif sorry haven't got the time right now.

firstly, Congratulation, lisasnape.. That was a nice post..

secondly, I too vote for: 2. Severus gets stuck spending Halloween at Grimmauld Place(5th year I think) because for some reason he can't disapparate after an order meeting.

I want to hear views nad give views(if I can get time) on the idea when Severus has to face Sirius.. :lol.. cant wait..

thirdly, my answer to the question: I was thinking about Severus' dissatisfying death. If given the chance to face off with Voldemort, do you think he would have done so? Is Severus as strong or stronger than Voldemort in terms of magical ability? Would Severus have tried to kill Voldemort or, like Dumbledore would he have chosen to try and capture him instead?

I think, if Voldemort hadnt killed Severus off, he would have gone and told Harry everything that Dumbledore asked him to and then he would fight the Death Eaters from the order's side. He would dual Voldedemort, if neccessary and he would have been able to fight Voldemort because he too had a lot of knowledge for both, the Dark Arts as well as the Defence Against the Dark Arts and he had a benefit to finished off many Death Eaters, who thought him to be on their side.. I am sure he would not have tried to kill Voldemort because, he knew Harry should kill Voldemort. But he would have helped Harry to cross all the barriers and reach to Voldemort.

I think he would have finally stopped using Occlumency, and Voldemort would have an all access pass to his mind. Voldemort would have become enraged, and they would start dueling. As much as I love Severus, I don't think he's as strong as Voldemort is, so Voldemort would win. At least everyone would be watching and know who Snape really was.

What song do you think best describes Severus and in which stage of his life? Be sure you post a link to the lyrics or audio of the song, or simply post the lyrics directly here.
Hmmm I don't know many songs so this might take awhile.
Okay, this song is Wishing you were Somehow Here Again from Phantom of the Opera. It seems to fit pretty good except for the part where it says 'friend and father'
You were once
my one companion . . .
you were all
that mattered . . .
You were once
a friend and father -
then my world
was shattered . . .

Wishing you were
somehow here again . . .
wishing you were
somehow near . . .
Sometimes it seemed
if I just dreamed,
somehow you would
be here . . .

Wishing I could
hear your voice again . . .
knowing that I
never would . . .
Dreaming of you
won't help me to do
all that you dreamed
I could . . .

Passing bells
and sculpted angels,
cold and monumental,
seem, for you,
the wrong companions -
you were warm and gentle . . .

Too many years
fighting back tears . . .
Why can't the past
just die . . .?

Wishing you were
somehow here again . . .
knowing we must
say goodbye . . .
Try to forgive . . .
teach me to live . . .
give me the strength
to try . . .

No more memories,
no more silent tears . . .
No more gazing across
the wasted years . . .
Help me say
goodbye.

I think that yes, he definitley would have, and he would try to kill Voldemort if he had the chance. Let's think, if someone had killed my best friend, I would want revenge too!!

Oh, and while I'm here, the fanfic topic that I like is
2. Severus gets stuck spending Halloween at Grimmauld Place(5th year I think) because for some reason he can't disapparate after an order meeting.
that would be a really good topic.

Hi All,

Those lyrics from Snapestinks**winkwink** were so beautiful; I nearly cried. I never would have thought of a song from Phantom, but it really works.

I thought that there would be initial tension and then probably a big verbal blowout where they both reveal their major issues with one another. Something like the nasty argument they had in PoA when they finally came face to face, but this time Severus won't be knocked unconscious. I'm hoping for some kind of resolution, not for them to end up best friends or anything, but at least not hate each other anymore. Just my two cents. biggrin.gif

I now have a question.
If Severus had a better upbringing, how do you think is live would be as a student? As an adult? Do you think he still would've had an interest in the Dark Arts?
Linux felicis
I'm sure he longed for beautiful clothes as he always wore rugs. As for how he spends his Xmas, he stays in Grimauld place reminising his lost love.
If Snape had a better upbringing I'm sure he would have turned into one of the greatest wizards ever. He is extremely gifted, smart and determined to be good without caring what other people think. He's also very sensitive with a deep sense of justice. What more can I say? He's one my favourite characters and I like him so much because he's terribly misunderstood.

I think Severus' life would have been so different if he had a better upbringing. He would have been able to make many more friends during his time as a student at Hogwarts because he would have been far less sensitive and more open to people with personalities that differed from his own. Basically, he would have been well adjusted and had much better social skills.

I think his intelligence would have attracted people to him rather than repel them, as it did when he was at Hogwarts- probably because he only concentrated on that part of himself,as he felt his intelligence was his only asset, and neglected other things, such as washing his hair and being sociable.

As an adult, I think his life could have been great. He probably wouldn't have been so into the dark arts; he wouldn't have had that need to gain power over others at all costs. Maybe he still would have been interested in them, but not obsessed. It follows that he and Lily might never have had that falling out and they may have ended up romantically involved or at least life long friends. wub.gif

Humm, yes it would definately be different from what we know is.. As a student he would be a bit more extrovert and he would be polite to all... yes, if he was still surrounded by the Slytherine pals, then he might have had a Dark Arts impact on him, what-so-ever. As an adult, he would be a nice guy.. I dont think he woud have loathed the students if he had a better upbringing..

all in all, he would have been a more nice guy but I dtill think that being in Slytherine also played a part in craving his life..

Severus would definitely have a better life if he had a better childhood. Imagine having ten years of his life with Tobias Snape, someone who couldn’t accept his wife and child because they’ve magical abilities, and consequently abusing and maltreating them. How could he have a normal life, having a father such as Tobias, but thanks he was a wizard and could go to Hogwarts when he reached eleven, wherein he could somehow escape his life at home.

With regards to his interest with the Dark Arts, I think that he would still be interested because of his abilities and talent and not wherein he would be obsessed with it. All in all, he would become a better man.

I rechon if Snape had a better upbringing, he would have had more friends at school too. He might have even been in Ravenclaw or something, not so much a Slytherin. Snape was very smart so he could easliy have made friends using his powers of intellect on the "popular people".

Once he grew up, I think Snape's mistake was becoming a teacher. I think he spent too long on www.i_have_no_friends_so_i_can_be_teacher.wand.uk! I reckon Snape could have gone into the Ministry.

Though he should have borrowed some of Lucius' fine shampoo, for that non-greasy, natural shine.

Because he's worth it.

Hey all-

Just a reminder to post your choice for the SOSS collaborative fanfic. Your choices again are:

1. Severus is in his first year teaching and is afraid of the upcoming Halloween feast. Why?

2. Severus gets stuck spending Halloween at Grimmauld Place(5th year I think) because for some reason he can't disapparate after an order meeting.

Thanks,

Hi all.

Hope you don't mind if I make an input.

If Severus had a better upbringing, how do you think his life would be as a student? As an adult? Do you think he still would've had an interest in the Dark Arts?

I think it would have made him more confident in himself. When someone who you subconsciously look up to, like a parent, tells you that you're worthless, you can't help but think it's true. And who knows, maybe his cunning and ambition was a result of his upbringing, always trying to become somthing bigger and better. If he wasn't in Slytherin, he would probably be in Gryffindor. And then things might have worked out between him and a certain Lily Evans...

I personally don't think he would've been as interested in the Dark Arts. To the young Severus Snape, the Dark Arts would have had appeal as a kind of 'get rich quick' scheme, and if he didn't think he was so useless, he might not have resorted to it.

As an adult, he wouldn't have been so bitter. He would have officially been on the side of good, and Lily wouldn't have been dead, because he would have stopped her giving birth to the Choson One. Neville would be the one destined to defeat Voldemort, and the whole series would have to be rewritten...

Ok, maybe that's a little extreme, but I do believe that something along those lines would end up happening.

Hmmm, let me think here...*puts on thinking cap and pushes ON* I think that he would defintley have much less interest, if at all. I'm positivley sure that he would still be in Slytherin, though. Severus Snape has always been and will always be a true Slytherin. His childhood would have been really different if he wasnt in his room all the time, wearing a smock and listening to his parents fight...poor Severus. As an adult, he would probably go into the Ministry. For some odd reason, I can really imagine him in the Goblin Liason Office...me and my crazy ideas. unsure.gif *takes off thinking cap and wonders if there is one that doesn't weigh as much* That's all, folks!

If he'd had a better upbringing he would still be Severus Snape. Only with a few changes, first off, as a student his favorite subject might have been Potions instead of DADA, he would have had a few more friends. (From better backgrounds). His life as an adult would be generally changed if he hadn't been brought up to believe that Voldy's ideals such as 'wizard supremacy' and such were the right thing to believe. Sure he would still feel awed by the power of the Dark Arts and would naturally want to know a little more about them, but then again who wouldn't?

HI ! Thanks to you too for the welcoming smile.gif
I felt a little lonely on some HP forum, I think I have an obsession with SS and I don't really know why hahaha ! Probably you could reassure me and say I'm not the only one ;-)

One of my favorite scene of Snape (movies by Rickman) is the part when he hits the kids on the head with a book and pull up his sleeves to catch their hair, fabulous !!!!!! What are/is yours ?
Alastorlet_and_Proud!
I really like the scene where umbridge is interrogating him Sooo funny! Hmm, let's se...

I also like the scene where he catches Harry wandering around the castle. "Lupin. Out for a little walk... in the moonlight?"

And the one where he teaches defense against the dark arts to the third years. Lol.

Hmmm...

I'm a bit brain dead this morning, so I can't really think of any more. Good discussion topic though.

Hi everyone,

-Snape- welcome to SOSS!!!

Your not the only one who is obsessed with Severus, hehe biggrin.gif , members here at soss will prove you that your not alone. smile.gif

With my favorite scenes:

The one you've mentioned about Snape hitting Ron and Harry in the head was so funny.
I also like the scene wherein Snape was shielding Harry, Ron, and Hermione from the werewolf Lupin in POA.

That's all I can think of for now. Will come back soon, hopefully tongue.gif , time constraint.

p.s. Amanda, when will we start with the fanfic or is it starting already?
lisasnape
Oh, Snape, We are all obsessed with Severus wub.gif ; can't you tell?

Some of my favorite scenes; there are so many (well actually in my opinion, there aren't enough Snape scenes in the movies), but here are a few I love:

POA: As mentioned before when Snape finds Harry with the marauders map (the Lupin exchange) and also when the map starts insulting him.

When he finds Sirius, Remus, and the trio in the shrieking shack and gives that speech about how the dementor's kiss is said to be unbearable to watch, "but I'll do my best".

wub.gif Shielding the kids from Lupin the werewolf! Awww!

GOF: When he accuses Harry of stealing from his private cupboard "Gillyweed may be innocuous, but Boomslang skin, Lacewing flies",etc.(can't remember the rest).

OOTP: When he's pulling Harry down to the dungeons to teach him occlumency and all the occlumency scenes. So intense!

The look he gives Umbridge when she interrupts Dumbledore and gets up from the head table to give her own speech. Priceless!! tongue.gif

Lisa
-Snape-
Oh yeah I wouldn't tell you are Snape obsessed ;-) haha !
I can still remember the first time I saw the first movie.... how much I cracked up on that dark mysterious Snape wub.gif wub.gif Jeez, it was so intense !

There was a day I got a flyer at home to win a travelling to attend Order of Phoenix's film making hahaha, if I had won, I would have seen Rickman in Snape in the flesh, oh my biggrin.gif
Don't know how I would react, byt I would look at him 24/7 until he disappears off my eyes wub.gif

By any chance, does anyone of you have the Snape bust released by Gentle Giant ?

PS : The long black hair is the only thing missing wink.gif

~Hi Snape. Welcome to the SOSS. There is also a website created by one of our members workaholic1231. It is in her siggy. I used to have the link but I accidentally deleted it from my siggy. I will try to find it for you.

~Nick and I have been in correspondence about the fanfic. It will be starting shortly. Just to give everyone a heads up, the topic picked by our members was Snape stuck in Grimmauld Place at Halloween. More details to come shortly...stay tuned.

Hmmm, I have so many favorite movie Snape parts. I think my absolute favorite movie part is in Sorcerer's Stone when we are introduced to Severus as Potions Master. When he is describing the "subtle art of Potion making" and how some of his students will have the "predisposition", I practially melt into the couch. So sexy that voice. I also really liked the part in SS when he was protecting Harry from falling off the broom in the Quidditch match but everyone thought he was cursing him...I loved watching him be a bad guy.

I am still looking for some songs that describe Severus Snape...only a couple of people have posted on that topic. Keep it going guys, I am still searching the October posts for the perfect post for devotee of the month!
-Snape-
Hi nevillesgirl. Thanks for your welcoming ! smile.gif

I do love that Sorcerer's stone scene when the camera itself points out at Snape for doing a spell on Harry too during the Quidditch match. His face with hair in the wind is priceless !
He seems to be irritated at first for not succeeding in doing harm to Harry. Once we know he wasn't doing harm but protecting him, he looks worried because he was said as guilty and still doesn't know where it comes from. Snape is the best !

I do collect Snape stuff. Does anyone have a full list of Snape items that have been released ? I do have the Neca Figure from set 2, the gargott coin among other things like the Diorama figure with a landscape behind. I have the chance to get soon the Gentle Giant bust. But I don't have a proper list of all that has been released.
Thanks in advance !
