Hermione always seems mad at Harry, until like the very end of the movie! does anyone know why that is? Ron kind of seems mad too. are they just worried?

But like on the Hogwarts express, Hermione like is so far away from Harry and looks at him like hes a freak. Then when they get off and Harry goes after Malfoy she seems mad then too. And then after she tells Mcgongal about Unbirdge punishing Harry, Harry says can I join you in the Great Hall and she looks all suprised. Im so confused. Can someone clear it up for me?

Also did anyone else notice that hermione talks really fast?
sockr24
um i didn't really think that she seemed mad at harry... maybe she was just scared for harry. i agree with you thaat she did speak kind of fast in this movie.
completely_mental
maybe their miffed because Harrys all emo and disconected. he like takes it out on them and in the book their are alot of petty fights ect.
Nymphadora Lupin
I personally think that it's just because Emma's acting is seriously deteriorating. She just gets worse and worse as the films go by, and I think it shows by exactly what you're talking about.

I'm really confused by Hermione - the way Emma portrays her is as if she's never read the books and doesn't actually know what Hermione is really like. I noticed that she speaks really fast too, and she also sounds worried whenever she speaks ... anyone else noticed that?

I partly agree with you Amy. That she sounds really worried when she talks but personally I love Emma Watson. Sometimes though I agree that she seems like she hasnt read the books but doesnt mean still I love her and her acting.
Potters Princess
I don't think Emma's a bad actress or anything but I agree with sockr24 about Hermione being scared for him. I mean he's in a depression and can't seem to snap out of it and people think he's a liar and Dumbledore won't talk to him....the list can go on and on.

I never thought of it as Hermione being mad at Harry before, but then I went and watched the movie again today and I did notice the looks that she sometimes gave him. Not only does she sometimes look mad, but she sort of looks at Harry as if he is some sort of freak. I agree with Amy that it has something to do with Emma's acting. I think that she probably tried so hard to look worried, that she didn't prortray her emotions the right way.

i dont think she was necessarily mad..it just seemed like she was trying to hard to act worried. and she did talk a bit speedy..and her voice was kinda shaky throughout the whole film. hopefully in the next movie, she wont be as "worried".

Hermione just thinks it's unfair that Harry is treating her,and Ron that way,and she says so in the book, she says something like: "We're on your side Harry,so stop yelling at us",or something like that. I know when Hermione says "It means the ministry is interfering at Hogwarts" she doesn't speak it fast. I haven't really heard her talk fast in the OOTP movie, but everytime i hear Emma speak it is like heaven wub.gif lol.

Hey Nymphadora Lupin, it's not Emma's fault if you think Hermione comes off across the screen wrong,it's the screenwriter's fault, because they probably never read the books. I know Emma has read the books, and she says so in the thirty minute interview on the GOF bonus dvd. I am a big fan of Emma,so don't even pick on her at all. Her acting is brilliant, and i saw "Ballet Shoes" on youtube last year, and she did such a fantastic job in it. Hermione's character in "OOTP" is just worried about all of the injustice that is going on from the ministry, and toward's Harry.

I just think that Emma is stuck in the rut of playing anxious characters- Hermione, Pauline and Princess Pea.
Although Hermione does not seem so anxious in the books, just remember that is our own imagination running with the character, whereas Emma is directed and it is partly the director's perspectrive, which she plays out- perhaps she is over directed in the 5th movie, and so her acting becomes unatural and mechnical. I do agree that I found Emma's performance in Order of the Pheonix unbelievable and was severely disappointed.
I think also that seeing as she went to a drama school, this could perhaps be the way that she interpreted what she was taught, or maybe even the way she was taught.
I agree with BigBookWorm- that is just how the director sees Hermione reacting to the situation Harry is in.
I do not think that this is a case of Emma being a bad actor, just a bad collection of circumstances- I hope that the best of Emma is still to come.

Mad? I don't know, maybe when he starts yelling at them, I mean, okay, he's frustrated and confused and stuff but that's not his friend's fault, they only try to help him and then he yells at them? I think it would be okay to be a bit mad because of that if you were Ron or Hermione, but the whole movie? No way, they weren't mad at him the whole movie, I think they were just worried and the way he reacts to their worries maybe makes them mad cause it's not their fault either... Perhaps? Does that make sense?lol! tongue.gif
Anyway, I haven't really noticed Hermione and Ron being mad, more like... Harry yelling at them when they try to help him tongue.gif

I never thought of it like her being mad at him... I just saw it as worry. Perhaps you're right and it's just bad acting on her part. I'll have to re-watch... this makes me want to go pop it into the DVD player right now!

I think its tough for us to imagine what the characters faces look like while we read. We are allowed to interperet their expressions to our own imagination; so im sure we all see it differently. These expressions just happen to be how Emma Watson/the director see Hermione.

Overall, I dont think enough emotion is shown in OOtP. For example when Harry gets to 12 Grimmauld place he has the scene where in the books its in all caps and he is supposed to be screaming so loud that Fred and George hear him from the other room. However, in the movie he is barely talking in more than a normal voice, but Fred and George somehow still hear him?? I thought that part was portrayed poorly.

Maybe he didn't yell at them very loud but he really did snap at them so, I think that makes it very clear how he's feeling, seeing him yell at his friends kinda makes you realise he's going through a hard time. But yeah, everyone interpretes what they read in their own way, but I gotta say, the images in the movie are very close to what I imagined, of course, I've been watching the movies almost as long as I've been reading, if you've only read the first two books or so before you start watching the movies, and then you watch them, you immediatly change your image a bit, and then when you read the next book, you imagine stuff the way it was in the film (places, ppl, the stuff that is there in every movie), or, I did... I used to imagine Snape as an old, ugly man with short hair, and then I saw him as this sexy, dark wizard with long hair in the movie and I changed my own image... But it's nice to make up some stuff of your own while you're reading, that's true. That's the thing about Harry Potter (books and movies) so far, not very emotional, but I think since Order Of The Phoenix it started getting a lot better! And Halfblood Prince that's just very emotional, compared to the movies before it, I think it's a good thing, hopefully they'll keep that up in the next movies. :-D
