Haha I hate to be redundant but I agree somewhat with Lavender-*lurves*-Wonwon.
I love Tom Felton as Draco- he's so perfect for the role, he's got the whole badboy thing down, the trademark sneer, the attitude, the strut... complete package.
Alan Rickman- wow. Simply put, the world could not have asked for a better Snape.
Runners Up on my list? Daniel Radcliffe is a pretty darn exceptional Harry. I also love Gary Oldman and Richard Harris

Alan Rickman is perfect as Snape, when I read the books, I imagine him saying the words, he is perfectly cast and I hope he is in the full series.
Maggie smith is great as well, but underused most of the time in the movies.
I still think Richard Harris was a far superior Dumbledore and I still imagine him in the role and not Michael Gambon. Richard Harris' interpretation of dumbledore was just perfect.

My favourite Harry Potter actor, or acress, has to be Emma Watson. She's the perfect Hermione Granger, even J.K Rowling has said so, when asked if the actors accurately portrayed the characters in the books, she said along the lines of:
"Yes, Emma Watson in particular is very like Hermione. From the first time I met, from that first phone call, I knew she was perfect".
Plus she's frigging gorgeous, but that's not the only reason she's my favourite

well, not the only reason lol, she's the perfect Hermione!
Dan, Rupert, Alan Rickman, Robbie Coletraine, they're all very good at their roles.

DID it make it very different having a new director?
We had to write an essay on our characters which was really funny because the way we did it was exactly how our characters would do it. I did it like Harry, just a page of writing, Rupert (Grint) didn’t do it in the end and Emma wrote 16 pages. So we were all like, ‘Oh God we’ve all become scarily like our characters’.
I've seen that interview lol, was it from Dan's first time on Jonathan Ross? T'was great!

A lot of the actors in Harry Potter are horrible *coughdanielradcliffecough* Most of the adults are pretty good, even though some of them don't fit their part as nearly as some us would like them to. Alan Rickman is a wonderful actor, and is perhaps my favorite out of the adult actors, but for the child actors, I would have to go with Emma Watson. She is much more talented than any of the other young actors, with Rupert Grint coming in as second best.

I like the guy who played Dumby in the first two films. I also like Emma Watson, the oldie who plays McGonagall is okay, and Sean Biggerstaff as Oliver Wood is really cute.
And just recently, becoz of the book and everyone else's influence, I really like Alan Rickman as the Greasy Git. Perfect for the role.
Hey! I just remembered, I also think the guy who plays Hagrid is great.

Ok, my fav ones are all adults.
First Jason Isaccs (Lucious). Honestly the first time I ever saw him was on HP and his evil face and way to perform his role was so good and natural that immediately became one of my favs. Now I want to find more movies/series where he's performed so I can see more of his work. Two days ago I was lucky enough to have catched 'The Patriot' from the beginning and again he took the prize for 'best evil performance'. That guy looks really good with long hair, and he's also funny, I was watching an interview of him on youtube a few days ago and I was lmao.
Then Gary Oldman. It seems he's been acting for a long time but it's the same case than Isaacs, this is the first time I see him on a movie and I would like to know more about his previous and current roles. At first I confused his name with Gary Numan and I thought 'there goes another singer that wants to be an actor'
Emma Thompson is absolutely great as Trelawney, she's hillarious and when I watched the movie I didn't have the slightest idea that it was her until I saw the final credits!
Dame Maggie Smith plays an absolutely wonderful role as Minerva. I can't wait to see her and Umbridge arguing in the next movie
And Alan Rickman also plays a really good Severus.

Oh, really? I would have never guessed it from you avatar/sig.
I think I'd have to agree that Alan Rickman is my favorite, simply because he's awesome. But in fact, I can't think of a single actor that I really dislike. Gambon's dumby was kind of crazy in the fourth one, but I really liked him in the third one. Maggie Smith is perfect as McGonagall, and she's the closest to how I had always pictured the character. Ralph Fiennes is perfect for voldy, I've always liked the guy that plays Lupin (can't remember his name). I think all the kids are really good too, including Radcliffe. He seems to be getting much better in each film. But, yeah, overall Alan Rickman has got to be my favorite.

I do believe that Alan Rickman is also my favorite. Oh, that voice...

But I must admit that Gary Oldman is a close second. Can anyone say Bram Stokers Dracula and The Scarlet Letter? Yummy! I actually really liked him in Air Force One when he played a bad guy. Yeah, but Alan Rickman is still my fav. It would just take too much time to list all his acting credits.
You know who I think is one to look for in the future though is Dan Radcliffe. I think doing Equus did wonders for his acting ability and presence. It shows the world that he has grown up and capable of portraying serious parts.

Jason Issacs did the Patriot yes, he was also in Armaggedon. He was a NASA advisor. It was a brief role.
I posted a couple of Gary Oldman's roles in the above paragraph

My favorite actor is Alan Rickman, and my favorite actress is Dame Maggie Smith. If I were asked who was the best actor in the Goblet of Fire, as I have already mentioned, I'd say it is Brendan Gleeson.
And here I say again that it is a pity that such great actors and actresses that are in HP have so few lines. It's frustrating not seeing Dame Maggie Smith, Sir Michael Gambon, Alan Rickman, Robbie Colthrane, Fiona Shaw etc. more often during the films. I do hope that Imelda Staunton will have as many lines as her character does in the book.

As far as the younger actors and actresses go I think that Dan has my vote. I think that he has grown as an actor and his experience doing Equus will certainly give him more of an edge in being able to feel and differentiate his roles. I am looking forward to seeing his abilities in OOTP, HPB and DH on screen. It doesn't hurt that he is easy on the eyes either. He grew up from one cute kid into...wow! Especially when he has that smoldering look on his face like in one of the pic from Equus.

Alan Rickman as Snape is by far my fav. but I also really enjoy Rupert because in the 1st movie, Dan, Emma and Rupert are all pretty dramatic in their actings, but in 2 Rupert kinda calms down a bit and isn't so dramatic like Dan and Emma always tend to be. But I'm not sayin that Dan and Emma are bad or anything but sometimes they can get carried away in tehir actings and be a bit over dramatic. But, Alan Rickman, Rupert Grint, and Miranda Richardson are all very good. I don't like Miranda's character, but I like her in Phantom of the Opera so I like her as an actress.....

Well I've already replied with Alan Rickman as my favorite older actor, so I guess it's time for my favorite younger actor!
I'm going to go with Emma Watson. She reminds me so much of myself, and I always relate myself to her... as well as her character. She does a great job of portraying Hermione, and she also looks just like I pictured Hermione to look!

I think Dan Radcliffe and Emma Watson are very good at portraying their characters. Sorry, Rupert Grint, but you need to be taller with more freckles.
For some reason, I don't think the guy who portrays Sirius Black (Gary Oldman, right?) was a very good pick on the part of the people who did the casting. I don't know why... I always pictured Sirius as being rather young. I like his Azkaban-breakout look, but his appearance in Movie 5 had me almost in tears. I, at least, expected him to shave off his beard and cut his hair. Aside from that, I just think Gary Oldman is too... well... old for the part.
If Alan Rickman had more of a 'sneary-dreary' act going on, I would love his character to the grave.
OMG, but Tom Felton is perfection! He's the best Malfoy...

I can't think of anybody else that could do better.
Ok, I'll stop now before I start giving an hour-long commentary on all the actors...

In defense of Rupert, I have to say that Dan doesn't really fit the bill either because he has blue eyes and he's about 5'4" in height...which is probably considerably shorter than Harry actually is. Good thing the movie makes Dan not look so short, eh?

My favorite...well I would have said Richard Harris. Yes, I'm still stuck on Richard Harris. I miss him. He was awesome. But since he's no longer a part of the movies...I'll go with...either Alan Rickman or Julie Walters. Alan because he's Snape, and Julie because I loved her in Driving Lessons and I like Mrs. Weasley.
For the youngers ones...I'll go with Tom Felton. He's good at what he does, I think. The others...I don't think they are as spot on as he is. Though Rupert is still my fave because I like Ron.

My favorite acrors and actresses are Alan Rickman as Snape (he is just as I imagined him), then Emma Watson as our favorite know-it-all, then Daniel Radcliffe as Harry, then James and Oliver Phelps as the Weasley twins. The only actor I don't like is Rupert Grint who I don't think is very good.

OMG!! My favorite actors/actresses....hmmm.
Ok! Daniel Radcliffe as HP! He's the best, except for the eye color problem!!

Emma Watson as Hermione! She plays her so well, I can't think of a better person to play Hermione! I think Rupert isn't very good! Also Tom Felton as Malfoy, I hate the character, but like how he looks like how Malfoy should, and is very good at acting like Malfoy!!
Alan Rickman as Snape, I hate Snape, but I think he portrays the character so well!! Maggie Smith as Proffesor McGonagall, I think she is the right person to play her. I also loved Richard Harris, he was the true DD in my opinion!! He even had the twinkle in his eye!!
That's all I have for now, I probably will think of more later though!

My favourite actress... hmmmmmmmmmm...
I'd have to say Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood because she portray's Luna's book character very well in the movie. Plus, I think she's very attractive

. Hey, she is! But seriously, you have to admit she play's Luna very well.
My favourite actor is, probably, ah, I dunno. Rupert Grint I suppose. He's really improved his acting and maturity, and that's important.

Right well Emma Watson Acts The rest Of Them Off the Screen!
Rupert's Really good Too Tho! Trés Funny
Alan Is A perfect Snape
James& Oliver are perfect For the twins too...
Imelda Was FANTASTIC As Umbridge! Really Good!
But The two Actors that let me down were the two most important some would say...
Sorry Daniel But You're not good Enough... Although He's came Along In OOTP but Still PAINFUL! I MEan In GOF His Winces When His Scar Hurts Are Trés Embarrassing...
And Michael As Dumbledore... Terrible casting... He's Not riendly Enough... the Way He Shakes Harry In GOF Is Crazy! Nearly Scary Like! Not Nearly As Wise Either! Poor casting...

I think the majority of adult actors are spot on with their characters in particular Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid and Alan Rickman as Snape

( not only is the latter sexy and very talented but I have to frequently remind myself that he isnt actually Snape and he is only acting

) I also think that Jacob Isaacs

and Helen Boham Carter were AMAZING in the recent film as Lucius and Bellatrix.
I'm not really a big fan of Michael Gambon however, he seems to give Dumbledore as sort of hippy short tempered edge to him which Richard Harris never did (which is why he was so perfect for the role...he is sorely missed

) When Michael had to do the emotional scene near the end of OoTP when Harry and he are discussing the prophecy it seemed odd when she suddenly told Harry he cared about him, I had never really at all got that impression throughout the 3rd 4th or 5th film so it was strange to hear him say that. He was brilliant in the fight scene with Voldemort though.
As for the younger cast I think that Emma is inparticular spot on with her portrail of Hermione, although she has really grown up and physically looking less like Hermione (which can't be helped to some degree) she still stays true to the character.
Rupert naturally seems to be the perfect Ron. Everytime I'm reading the books I actually imagine Rupert doing everything that Ron does, I can't think of anyone more suited to the role...and he is megga cute!
As for Dan well through out the films he has really matured and developed. I would say in the first 3 his performance wasn't the best but in the last two he has really displayed a real improvement. In OoTP he really shone through and managed to really show that anger that Harry was experiencing.
The twins as always liven up the films with their funny remarks and the way they speak in unison or take turns to finish each others sentences. The rest of the younger cast are also great!

Jul 30 2007, 06:30 PM
The four performers that stand out for me are long standing faves of mine, so I am not sure whether it's merely their performances in HP that make me pick them out, or whether it's a previous bias on my part. But those four are Dame Maggie Smith (McGonnogall), Alan Rickman (Snape), Richard Harris (the original Dumbledore) and Gary Oldman (Sirius). Alan Rickman especially is worthy of praise imo for the way he brings Snape to life like very few performers can do with a character translating from a book to the screen. He just makes Snape so *real*, and I feel like the Snape in the film is exactly how JK meant him to be portrayed; or at least, how I imagined him when I read the books. From the younger crowd, I find Rupert Grint (Ron) to be a wonderful young actor and comically gifted. I think he truely could have a wonderful career ahead of him. A special mention also goes to Matthew Lewis for his loveable and endearing portrayal of Neville.
azkabanical
Aug 2 2007, 07:11 PM
In defense of Rupert Grint, I think he does a wonderful job portraying Ron, especially in the 5th movie. In the first two or three films, he (like all the young actors/actresses) wasn't real polished. (I think this is going to be exactly like wizard's chess!). Oi. But by the time OotP comes around, the only awkward moments and scenes are when Ron is supposed to be saying something awkward. Rupert either has a natural tendency toward Ron's character, which adds to his portrayal of Ron, or he is such a good actor that he can create Ron's character. Either, way he does a stellar job in OotP. (I haven't seen GoF in a looong time, so I can't compare him there). I love the 'emotional range of a teaspoon' scene right after Harry's kiss with Cho.
There is perfect acting there by all three.
And since I have a certain fondness for redheads with a sense of humor, James & Oliver jump right into my top fave actors. Maybe they have completely dull personalities in real life (though somehow I doubt it), but I love them on screen.
And for some reason, Maggie Smith is McGonagall to a T. Though she's slightly older than the McGonagall in my head. I don't think there's much she can do about that.
I liked Richard Harris as Dumbledore better, except for his voice! He made Dumbledore sound like a man on his deathbed (which, as it turns out, he wasn't far from his himself (!)). Although to give Michael Gambon credit, the scene between him and Ralph Fiennes in the Ministry is incredible! Including the part where Harry is supposedly possessed - very good.

The best teen actor I would have to say would be Emma Watson. She does a great job bringing Hermione to life. After her I would say Rupert Grint because he is hilarious and does a good job with Ron's comedic side.
Out of the adult actors I would have to say Dame Maggie Smith. She is exactly what I pictured Mcgonnagall to be. After her I would say probably Gary Oldman or Alan Rickman.

I kept rooting for Snape to be a good guy because I have loved Alan Rickman in whatever role he plays for many years. If you ever have a chance to catch a much younger Rickman as Obediah Slope ( an old BBC thing that ran years ago on PBS) you will know what I mean. He was so creepy that he was mesmerizing. He brought to his role of Snape this same ability to make you sympathize with Snape at the same time as you wondered how someone so oily (literally and figuratively) could possibly be running such a double life.
I'm so glad DD's faith in him was justified.
Of course the three young actors who grew up while doing these movies are wonderful. I have to agree that Emma Watson and Rupert Grint nailed their characters.
And Dame Maggie Smith stole any scene she was in.
Great casting of the secondary roles with Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson my faves.
So sad to have finished the last book. Tried to stretch it out but couldn't.

dame maggie smith, she portrays mcgonagall stern and strict but rather cooly
gary oldman, he is the classic old wealthy englishman, sirius was good looking with such coolness.
alan rickman, he is exactly what i imagined him to be in the books. this one got all right.

I'm not sure who my FAVORITES are, but I think the actors that are best with their characters are Alan Rickman as Snape, Maggie Smith as McGonagall, and Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid. Alan doesn't portray Snape exactly as he is in the books, but he does such a fantastic job, and still manages to bring to life the greasy, dark essence that Snape embodies--it's very impressive. Maggie completely embodies McGonagall in the best way possible, and she keeps a lot to how it's written, which I really respect.
Robbie, of course, IS Hagrid, he looks the part, acts the part; I think he's great, no one else could possibly play him better.
