lol just an image I found..

I think Nargles are very little. A bit like gnomes.. I don't know why, but I picture them as purple xP with big ears and tiny eyes.

Thats weird. I Sort Of Pictured Them Like hat oo. Execpt Sort Of Like Pygmy Puffs With Arms And Legs. All Round Purple And Fluffy With Little Black Eyes And Big Pointing Purple Ears

yeah! with those ears and eyes! I'll make a paintdrawing, and post it here later.

But what kind of purple? like violet or dark? I picture them dark.. And not totally fluffy, but on his/her back.

i am also starting to picture Nargles as all different colour (bright colours). I think they could be lime green, hot pink, sunshine yellow. You know. All them colours

haha imagine at the same time.. I can picture it. Look really funny and also cool.. Wish there were really nargles, so we could see them. Oh bugger/bagger [?] I'm late for school again..

LOL that picture of the Nargles kind of reminds me of how the cornish pixies in the second movie! I had a pygmie puff -ish kind of creature in my mind, with devious little eyes and a sneaky smile fluffy, but able to blend in with their surrounding to remain hidden, like a chameleon

This is a bit how I pictured them too, but mine had little round noses, and were much smaller. I also thought they might be like cammellions(sp?), and could change colors and hide in the mistletoe! Thats what I think anyway.

lol remember: I'm not very good at making drawings with paint. And I was too lazy to make it smaller.

Was it said they hide in mistletoes? Might be funny: a girl and boy are standing under the mistletoe, almost kissing.. suddenly falls a nargle out of the mistletoe! xP

I always pictured them kinda how you said but with a spikey shell on their backs instead of a puff. And green instead of purple. And the spikes on the shell would be red. I don't know why that image came, but hey. Maybe cause I was thinking about the mistletoe, so I thought of a creature that matched.

I was always fascinated by nargles and want to know more about thing. To me they're sort of like camelins (you know the lizard that can change it's color according to it's surrondings).
But they aren't quite as big and slightly different shape.

I think nargles would look sort of like skeletons with skin over their ribs. I don't know it just sort seems like something Luna would believe in. A half skeleton. You know. It just screams Luna to me.

I imagine Nargles to look like minature imps. Green, to camoflague with the miseltoe, a bit chameleon like. I think they are sneaky little creatures, they are described as such...was it by JKR? I can't recall, anyway, they are described as creatures of mischeif who borrow things and make things go wrong (they are general thought to be responsible for all the odd socks that we are left with after the laundry is done). I think that the miseltoe in the ROR was definitely infested with them...Dan and that kiss with Cho, definitely wrong!

yes that is what i think harry_potter_luvr_4life i think that they look like skeletons with skin over thaem it just seems to me that that would be the sorts of things that hang in mistletoe or however you spell it

although some might look like how moonlight described them

i also think that they steal things like lunas shoes and maybe shiny things that are quite a bi bigger tha them like shiny things and stuff

I kind of agree with you. Luna doesn't seem to be fascinated in the dark, just the different. I don't think she'd like something evil. I can picture her picking up the little purple drawing from earlier and cuddling it thuroughly, despite the Nargle protesting.

Hee hee. I just got a very nice mental image of Luna cuddling something close to a purple teddy bear. Good times, good times. I always thought Nargles looked like the fire-crabs in the Chamber of Secrets computer game, but standing on two legs. I also thought they were green or purple, though. Not red. And not skeletons. No skeleton would hide in mistletoe.

Yep. I just got a mental image of a living (or undead) skeletons croaching in mistletoe while Harry and Cho kiss.

Do Nargles actually do us any harm? I mean, sure they're pests, but are they actually bad, or just mishievious?

hehehe. i can picture that too. Luna is one of my all time favourites. She is just so awesome. and yes. Wouldnt it of been good if one jumped on Cho's head during the kiss. hahaha. i would of enjoyed that.

no. i dont think nargles do any harm. they are pretty cool little creatures.

i'm actually wondering too what are nargles in one form or another they find there way into sentences in the books and films after luna has been introduces into it properly

I absolutely, possitively LOVED how they snuck Nargles into the fifth Harry Potter Movie. Here's a bit:

Harry: Your feet. Aren't they cold?

Luna: A bit. Unfortunately, all my shoes have mysteriously disappeared. I expect the Nargles are behind it.

Great, huh? And here's another:

Hermione: What an interesting necklace!

Luna: It's a charm, actually. It keeps away the Nargles.

Ron: *whispers* What are Nargles?

Hermione: *whispers back* No idea.

Wow, if Hermione, our resident know-it-all, doesn't know what Nargles are, they must be really rare... Or really weird!

Ok, that is a seriously nice mental image. Little Nargle, why oh why did you not jump on her head? It would have made many of us readers out here much happier!

At any rate, it could have at least spit on her head. Would've made the scene a little funnier, you know? Romantic mistletoe, Harry's first kiss, and then WHAM! Something spits in Cho's hair. Happy happy thoughts. (Apologies if you like Cho.)

this has always puzzled me

i think luna could see them. i can just picture one being like her imaginary friend. one that she had named and always came to see her. one she would talk to and have a sort of connection with (hahaha i think i am going crazy!!!)

(this had nothing to do with nargles but i would just like to say that i have conviced my english teacher at school to join vtm i told her all about it. we have a HP discussion every time i go into english. she also has a HP obsession. just like me she is quickly becoming my favourite teacher)

I always thought that Nargles were things that lived in plants and stole things since in OOTP movie Luna says that nargles stole her shoes!


PLus, it is true that nobody in there right minds would kiss someone who had just said that there were 'Nargles' in the mistletoe. Cho's insane!

I have to agree with you. Just saying it's mistletoe. Not to be mean but there you go. My English teacher is my favorite teacher also. She is almost as obsessive as me. That is hard to do.

Anyway, I was thinking... do all nargles look the same and do the same kind of thing? Are there different species of nargles? Can they talk and think or are they more like animals? (I like to think animals can think, but people say they can't.)

Well, Nargels are mysterous creatures. I see them as kind of big bugs without bug eyes if you know were I'm going. I meen, they must be quite small to hide in mistletoes, but also have a certain sice to be noticed.

But it is a great question, it creates some serious images.

You mean kind of pixie-ish? Like, bug-like and small with wings, but normal size eyes? That would be kind of cool.

Its great to see people around here again, its been months! I was thinking about your questions, and then it gave me this idea sort of. What if Nargles, could sort of shape shift? I suppose sort of like a boggart, but the dont change to scare you, just to hide from you. I also like the idea of them being little pixie sort creatures, kinda like the ones we see in Chamber of Secrets, with Lockhart.

What if they were like, little pixie things, but then they could shape-shift? I love that idea, that would explain why no one ever sees them. Like, one's a little pixie person, and then it throws something at you and laughs, and then changes into... a bush or something? That way, no one would ever know!

i reckon they are like femaleexam invidulators who purposely wear high heels to annoy students who are trying to pass a levels

they annoy me so much why do teachers wear high heels on wooden floors... because
the are really nargles who like to annoy people thay come out of plants from time to time and take human form and walk round and round in circles around a students desk whilst they work their toshi off doing a near impossible exam

(i had an exam earlier, in case u havent guessed and a teacher was clip clopping for ther whole hour and half... around my desk!)

I think teachers purposely wear big high-heeled shoes to annoy the students. Although, it is a handy tip-off if she's out of the room and you're goofing off.

But do Nargles really like to annoy people? Or are they, just, kind of, you know, there?

No one has posted for a while. That makes me feel sad. Doesn't anyone want to talk about those cute (or maybe not so cute, who knows?) Nargles anymore? What they look like, what they do, if they're real or not?

Nargles, shape shiffters, that's pretty cool, I hadn't thought of that. I think nargles are tiny gnat, possibly smller, like creatures, only in human form, with wings and nedille like teeth. Moving at unbelievable speeds, stopping only to hex or curse someone. The bite of a nargle is venemous and painfull, the venom makes you a little confused...giddy. Sometimes the bite of a nargle will leave a mark, sometimes not. If hexed or cursed by more than one nargle, you're instantly sleepy and or hungry (like Luna in the beginning of OotP). So be careful HP fans.

I never even thought of them bitting people? But when you think about it, that is quite a high possibility. I think that Nargles don't hex or curse to be evil, just annoying. I see them sort of like Peeves in a way...

I never thought of them as being evil myself. I never even thought of them as Peeves-like. I just sort of pictured them, attitude wise, like a little pixie in fairy tales. Annoying, trouble-making, but not really bad. Nargles biting... I never thought of that, but who says they don't? Maybe you have cracked why Luna was hungry that night.

I see them as a small pixie like others have been saying that can fly. And well I think the shape-shifting is a bit to much. But I dont know so we can only guess! But im sure they have huge round eyes on a little body. Thts just the way that i see them.

When I say Peeves-like I dont mean bad or evil. Simply mischievous and annoying. Back to the thought of pixies... I have always sort of pictured them like the cornish pixies in CoS. I dont know why but whenever the word 'Nargle' was mentioned that was the picture that appeared in my head. and yes i do agree that lycan41's post was really good, and well thought out. Maybe we can finally understand why Luna is the way she is. My little brain is now ticking!

If they hide in mistletoe, steal people's shoes, and need charms to be warded off with, what else could they be but mischievous and annoying? Possibly evil, but how could anything with a name like 'Nargle' be evil? Their name just kind of makes them seem like happy pranksters, in my mind. Sort of the animal version of Fred and George. (I can't believe I just compared the twins to little imp things...)

I always pictured them about the size of a beanie baby, fuzzy, brightly colored (they'd be either solid green, red, or purple) with a little turtle shell on their backs. But they wouldn't walk the way turtles do, they'd stand upright. And they'd look more like a cat with no ears, if that image even makes sense... It seems a lot more plausible in my head.

I think it's fun how we know so little about all the creatures Luna raves about, but we hardly know anything about them. It's totally wacky, and really amusing and entertaining.

I picture them looking kinda like House-elves but way way smaller like the size of a snitch. They have to be small to be hidden in misletoe LOL. I wish all this HP stuff was real becuase I would hang out with luna and go hunting for hinkypunks with her and ride thestrals and talk about Nargles.

I picture the Nargles as like very small little fluffballs that are bright pastel colors (like aqua and lavender and light yellow and that kind of color). They have little arms and legs, and their hands almost look like cartoon gloves. They have very bright happy-looking eyes. I think that they hide in the mistletoe and what they do is they're always very mischievous. They hide your things in obvious places...and what would be interesting, if they hide in the mistletoe, is if they secretly try to get the most unlikely couples together! You know, like a nudge here and a nudge there, and poof! Two people are under the mistletoe who you would never think would get together.
