I think you answered it well enough Nicky smile.gif Slytherins are often times considered to have qualities of Machiavellianism. And since you brought it up I went searching for information on Machiavelli and stumbled upon a test that both AlannahG and myself took. She scored a 73 and I, a 72. We're considered high Machs, and we were put in Slytherin. My sister, lupin<3tonks, took it and received a 49, which is considered a low Mach, and she is in Hufflepuff. But I digress, on topic, I say !

I'd like to knoweveryone's thoughts on how Slytherins should present themselves. Is a true Slytherin a follower, or does a true Slytherin lead themself and follow their own ideals and beliefs ?

I agree with you both, however, the way I see Slytherins, or rather, the way I would represent myself, would be as a follower. Of course, I wouldn't really be a follower, I would really be pulling the strings, the puppetmaster moving the strings of the puppet. I believe most Slytherins work this way as well. So I definitely agree with Alannah and Nicky, but in a bit of a different form; they pretend to be followers in disguise but they are really leaders (even if just to themselves, but that's all they're really worried about anyway).

~~ By the way, after reading through the VTM House Cup thread and making sure I wasn't breaking any rules by bringing up points: Congratulations AlannahG and Vega, of the Lyre for your thread starter and noteworthy post that earned you both recognition !

in my own opinion being a slytherin much like what Nicky said slytherins are both followers and leaders depending on which they suit more. For example Crabbe and Goyle were mostly following Draco. Although some young witches and wizards prefer to be more indepentant than others. which causes people like Crabbe and Goyle to become loyal to another Slytherin. I prefer to be a leader, but I also don't mind being a follower sometimes.

-keep up the good work Slytherin----

Thank you mistress_malfoy another example. Crabbe and Goyle. Slytherins like I mentioned are like leeches and hold on to others until they move up and they reach the top. They followed Draco knowing that he held more power than them in a sense. If you recall in Deathly Hallows I don't know who it was I think it was Crabbe who finally had the most power and turned against Draco saying that he no longer does what he says for whatever reason.. It was true that at that point Crabbe [correct me if it wasn't him] had the most power and was on top of Draco; Until he died. But that proves my point. They do what it takes to get to the top. Kill off, betray, anything. I have say in an odd way Crabbe, even though it was evil, may have shown more true Slytheriness than Draco or Goyle.

Slytherins always present themselves as proud individuals regardless. They do not like to show that they are wrong in a situation at all because of their pride. I think that Slytherins (true ones at that) are both a follower as well as a leader. For example Draco is a leader to Crabbe and Goyle but when it comes to his father and Voldy he tends to be a follower. Crabbe and Goyle are followers all around, they want to be liked and to fit in so they go with the flow and do what ever it takes to make them look "cool" and 'tough". To an extent Slytherins do march to the beat of their own drum but they all are also players in the marching band. They follow the leader of the band but basically play their own instruments. But you have to look at it this way, all of the beliefs and ideals that the Slytherins follow have been embedded into their minds as they were growing up.

good point here's a new topic about Draco:

What would happen if Scorpio Malfoy (Draco's son) was sorted into Gryffindor like Serious Black did, or will Albus Severus Potter (Harry's second son after James Potter) become a slytherin? And will Scorpio become friends with Albus ? Why and Why not.

In my own opinion I think Scorpio will be in Slytherin like me, but there is always a chance that he (like Serious Black) gets into Gryffindor although I do not know his personality, because they didn't talk about him much. Although they did talk about Albus and he was worried about not getting into Gryffindor, but I don't care which one he gets into.

As for the two becoming friends I think that there is a fifty fifty chance on both sides of the argument still it would be really awsome if Albus got into Slytherin! biggrin.gif

That is an interesting point of discussion....I don't really forsee Draco's son going out of the "family tradition" by not being in Slytherin, it just would not be right. I feel as if Scorpius will be where his family has always been in Slytherin...Now for Harry's son that one is tricky, because at first the Sorting Hat wanted to put Harry into Slytherin as well but because Harry protested he was put into Gryffindor. It would be a 50/50 thing on Harry's son being put into either Gryffindor or Slytherin...I could see the two boys becoming friends with one another, even after their fathers went through all of their trials and tribulations over the years. I think that Draco and Harry finally came to somewhat of a truce with one another and maybe they will instill into their own sons that they need not hold grudges against one another for what happened in the past.....It would be interesting to read more about the HP teens' kids growing up with each other...

I honestly can't picture Draco's son going anywhere other than Slytherin. Even if Draco became nicer and more tolerant over the years, I can't picture him raising his son to be anything other than a Slytherin.

Now, I can picture Albus Severus potentially getting sorted into Slytherin, but I think he's more likely to go into Gryffindor like both of his parents and his brother.

I kind of imagine Draco's son and Harry's children kind of have a teasing relationship - where they don't really dislike each other, and may hang out sometimes, but tend to pick on each other.

Edit: I also feel the need to point out that Draco's son is named Scorpius, not Scorpio.

I agree with Alannah, I don't see Scorpius going to another house unless he was against how his father views things. We don't know much about his personality however, and his mother was also a Slytherin, so it's a safe bet that is where he'd end up. As for Harry's kid, Gryffindor, too.

I can definitely picture a teasing relationship as well. But nothing anywhere near what went on when their parents were in school. Hopefully the bigotry and hostility has simmered down to friendly competition.

First, I don't see any of Harry's children being sorted into anything other than Gryffindor. Given both parents (Harry and Ginny) and grandparents (Lily and James/Molly and Arthur) were Gryffindor it just seems that the Potter children would also be sorted into that house. As for Albus Severus being sorted into Slytherin, the mere fact that he is scared that he would get sorted into Slytherin almost guarantees that he WON'T be sorted there.

Second, we don't know much about Scorpius or his upbringing, but I tend to believe that a Malfoy will be sorted into Slytherin over any other house. I think Draco was humbled after what happened at the Last Battle, so I don't see him instilling the hatred of muggles and muggle-borns and the greatness of being pure-blood into his children the way Lucius indoctrinated Draco. However, I think Draco is proud of who he is and I'm sure he taught Scorpius to be proud to be a Malfoy.

Finally, life changed drastically for the wizarding community after the fall of LV. They have been able to live in peace for 19 years and I would hope in that time some of the prejudices of who belongs in which house would have dissipated. I think that whichever house Scorpius and Albus Severus are sorted into, their parents will be proud of them.

Yes, but Albus Severus lives in the shadow of his older brother, James. One that he is just itching to step out of. Oh sure, young Albus might resist at first, but the Sorting Hat can be most persuasive. It wouldn’t just say, “I’m going to stick you in with all the mean, creepy people.” It would, of course, see Albus’s yearning to prove himself (a Slytherin trait), it would see his talent, his determination, and it would see (for the most part), that Albus Severus is quite nearly a pure-blood. It would also see that his initials are A-S-P, a highly venomous cobra. Who better to enter Slytherin?
mistress_malfoy
good point that's what I thought. Albus does live in the shadow of his brother and may want to prove who he is and what he can accomplish without james although James and Albus seem to get along pretty well, So who knows. Maybe he will end up in slytherin!
AlannahG
I'd never thought of his initials spelling ASP, so may be that's a hint as to where he would end up? I have always thought that it seemed like a little bit of an odd conversation for them to have at the train station, given all the other conversations JKR could have written for Harry to have with his younger son. So maybe she was trying to tell us that a Potter will be in Slytherin and that the wizarding world has come to a point where it would be completely accepted.

Also, it's a little late (I've already told you anyway, but I wanted to post it here) Congrats ihkny for getting into the dueling club! biggrin.gif

Absolutely. Living in the shados of one's brother has to get to him sooner or later, and what other place is there for him than Slytherin then? Nothing is bad about Slytherin, and I've recently come to think about something. Mostly find the huge difference between Slytherin to be the view of muggles. But I find that wrong. Slytherin is a totally acceptable house and what lies in being sorted into it has nothing to do with the word 'mudblood'. Slytherins are cunning, wants to prove themselves and often put themselves before others. There is nothing wrong with that. Gryffindor just happens to be the house for bravery, courage and standing up. (I know I did get a little sidetracked there, but it's really been nagging to get out)

I can see Albus in Slytherin, and that's not a bad thing.
DracosLady
If the long standing family traditions are still strong then you can bet Draco's son will end up in Slytherin. As for harry's younger son, that one is tricky. If he does want to get out of his older brother's shawdow then maybe he would feel more comfortable in another house away from James (look at Sirius and his brother Regulus) It would be interesting if Albus Severus ended up in Slythrin with Scorpius....I think now that there has been 19 years since the fall of Voldy but I believe that the mudbloods, muggles and pure bloods have probaly learned to live together in harmony. And all of the past prejudices between Draco and Harry have been buried and probaly won't be passed down to their sons.
