Who here is loyal to JK Rowling?
Are you a stupid fan who goggles over Rowling's bras?
Or a friend in contact or big supporter of Rowling?
Be honest please!!!

I'm laughing. I hope I'm the one who thinks JKR is funny, and that she's got talent in writing. I hope I'm not the type of person who goggles over tabloids, which I think are really, really stupid.

Um, I think there are more options than that....

I used to be very loyal to JK, but now I can't say that I am loyal to her anymore, though I still appreciate the creation of the once wonderful world of Harry Potter (I still enjoy books 1-5). I feel like with every increasingly ridiculous thing she spouts in the interviews she digs herself more and more into holes and looks more and more absurb and desperate, and I can't say I really have any respect for her anymore. She should have learned how to let go after she finished DH....

I really have to say that I am a BIG fan, and truely loyal to Jo Rowling.
I have read the books since number two was released, and I have always LOVED them! And it's been really funny to read them again and again, cause when I was younger I always missed something when I read the books... So everytime I read one of the books, I found something new
When I got older I also understood everything better, and now I'm laughing all the time when I read! Rowling is a fabolous author!

I used to just be fan.
Not like a silly one that 'goggles over Rowling's bras' however.
I admired her as a writer and a person but ever since watching the 'year in a life of' back in December i must say that I have become loyal to her. Her obvious dedication to the books and to her writing in general just made me admire her even more and respect her as a person.
I think she's brilliant, I read the first book not long after it's publication when I was in school. Actually our teacher read it to us first of all and then I made my mother go out and buy it for me. Ever since then I've been hooked on Harry Potter, so much so that my friends and family can't understand what I love about it so so much!
I think if she was ever to write anything else I would definatley read those aswell because Harry Potter has made me an avid, loyal, reader of hers. She is such a talented writer and I love the Harry Potter books so much!

I'm only loyal to God, my family and friends, my country, and myself.
I'm with Sherrilinia on this one. Although I too appreciate Rowling's creation of the wonderful world of Harry Potter (at least in the first five books), I think that she ruined it FOR ME with her interviews. She disrespected a portion of her so called "valued readers" (her words), of which I am part of, in one of those interviews. It still hurts. So, no, I'm not loyal to her.

I'd be interested to know why you guys feel like she let you down, what was it that she said/did?
I'm a fan of JK Rowling but "loyality" is a very strong word to use in that context. How exactly can one be loyal to a reader, by buying their books regardless of whether they are interested in a particular one or not? If that is the case then I must say I am not, because I would not buy a book that did not interest me, even if it was penned by JK Rowling.

I think Dumbledore's Widow is referring to the interview in which J.K. Rowling more or less called H/Hr shippers delusional. Well, Emerson Pratz did, and she thought it was funny.
I'm not loyal to J.K. Rowling in the sense that she can do no wrong in my eyes, but the only times I've ever had to be "loyal" and defend her and her work have been when people questioned the fact that I read Harry Potter. In that sense I'm "loyal" to her creation, because I believe it's better than many people think, much more profound, and not at all evil.
She's not good at writing relationships, and I haven't been able to set eyes on the epilogue more than twice, and the second time was a mistake. I'm angry with her for unceremoniously killing off some characters and not telling us what happened to those who survived. But my disappointment is mainly something I'd voice within the fandom. I'd always recommend Harry Potter to anyone who showed an interest, and I love the characters and world she's created enough to spend a silly amount of time on them.

It appears as if this thread is a debate on what is meant by "loyal".
Therefore, the term "loyal fan" is even more confusing. I think you can be a fan of JK Rowling, and like the Harry Potter series/universe but not be loyal to her as an author in any sense. For instance, if she wrote another book that did not deal with wizards, or fantasy, or the HP universe in general, would I read it? Probably not. By contrast, I'm a huge fan of Rod Serling and loyal in the sense I'd want to read (and have read) anything he wrote. If someone found a laundry list he wrote, I'd probably want to read it on the off chance he made a notation about posessed socks or something. Even if someone showed me some of his earlier work and said "Hey look at this, it's garbage." I'd agree with them but say it was "good stuff developing out of garbage".
I enjoyed most of the HP series. I truly enjoyed the first three books, with POA being my all-time favorite. After that, the books became darker, and Harry became filled with too much angst for my taste. Also, her attention to detail became somewhat lacking. Some of what she said in interviews, or even in the books contradicted what she later wrote. The later books just weren't as fun to read as the earlier ones.
Still and all, the universe she created remains a lot of fun, and there are lots of us who simply ignore JKR's protestations of how it really is and make up our own truths.

Well without getting into the fine print, I am neither a fan of nor loyal to J K Rowling. I am a huge fan of the universe and many characters she has created, perhaps much more so than the stories she has woven around them. It's kind of a split thing, I like her creations, but not the way she created them, so I find much more satisfaction in reading some well written fanfictions out there, which I find to be much ameliorated and improved versions of her stories. She did not write the story for fans or for charity, she had something in mind and she penned it down hoping to have it marketed and hit the jackpot in the process. She did what she had to and none should begrudge her that, but to prostrate at her feet for giving us Harry Potter, sorry mate, I would tell them to take a jump.

[size=2]I don't know as I'd say I'm loyal to her as an author... it's like actors who play a certain roll for many years and get type cast... the only thing the world wants from JK Rowling is more Harry ...
Thats not to say any other works she writes won't be as wonderful. But the world isn't ready to let go of Harry.
I didn't start reading Harry until Book 5 was being published ... and I loved the first 5. I think perhaps there was just too much pressure, or with the new wealth and fame, perhaps less scope for the imagination, to do as well with the last 2.
Now, being an author, I also do understand that writing styles can change as your writing grows, so maybe her style was just different. I would say that I am loyal to the series, but I might be willing to try other books she writes.

I'm completely loyal to JK. I may not like everything she did (like killing Fred) but I never doubted what she did. Some of my less obsessed friends tried to convince me to send JK hate mail because she killed off Srirus. But I would never do that.

I seem to hold the views of many on this thread that suggest loyalty to her creation of Harry Potter but not so much to her personally as an author. I don't know if I would read another book by her unless it captured my attention the way the Potter series did.
When I defend my own preference to read and like Harry Potter it is exactly that I am defending. My preference to reading something that I enjoy. I do not try and convince others that this is a great piece of literary work because let's face it, her latter books were somewhat lacking in that area, althought still good. I defend what I like to read.

I think I agree more with Capricorn...I do defend the fact that I read Harry Potter...and in turn that's Defending Jo. As for being Loyal..well I am to the Potter series...as for other books she writes in the future...I don't know. She's got some of her own big shoes to fill.
I was also a little disappointed with the epilogue. they are so many unanswered questions! Did Harry, Ron and Hermione go back to school to finish their 7th year? Where they awarded any job they wanted because they defeated Voldemort? What are their professions? What happened to the other characters in the book that weren't mentioned at the end?
I like JKR and I love the HP series...but to me it feels unfinished...
So I guess you can say I'm loyal..but to a certain point.

I really am a fan of JKR and I plan to read her coming non-HP books. Personally though- I don't try to cover up for her faults. I don't love every Harry Potter book just because it's a Harry Potter and I don't love everything she does just because she did it. I think her writing is amazing but I don't agree with every thing she writes just because she wrote it...

I would say I am a fan of JKR. Of her books as well as her.
I mean, I think it's really quite stupid not to like her because she killed off your favorite character or something, cause you honestly can't expect her to please every single one of her readers.
That would be absurd, and I would find it insane of her if she would even try.
Cause that's exactly what i like about her. She had the story in her head and she sticked with it, even with all the pressure of the fans and media and whatever, in the end she still wrote it mainly for herself.
I think she's brilliant, and i don't believe people who say she was just lucky that her books were succesfull (i mean, she was lucky that they were published and stuff but that's not what i'm talking about) because I think her books are really, really good.
And everyone who disagrees might want to try it themselves before commenting her work.
I'm not saying everyone has to like HP, but she did one hell of a job inventing such a good plot and world and writing seven books, and that shouldn't be underestemated.
I would probably read the other books she writes, but i wouldn't immediately like every word of them because she wrote it.
I don't agree with her on everything, nor do I like everything she wrote, but i respect her immensely for doing it anyway.

I am a LOYAL fan!
By loyal I mean:
- I would support her career by buying any of her work whether critics like it or not - I have my own opinion and can make up my own mind!
- Whenever I see an argument about Jo's talents I always stick up for her - because afterall, the case often is that those who accuse her of this and that are jealous of her success and talent.
- I revere her work and will do so all my life - my Harry Potter obsession will not leave me even at the grave!

I love Harry Potter. If someone had something bad to say about it, I'd defend the series in whatever way was needed. I would also defend her writing skills. Even though she chose to do some things I didn't like in the book, she's an excellent writer. She has a wonder attention to detail and her writing is truly interesting and deep. Loyal to her as a person? I don't know. I mean I just love what she's produced so far. She has actually irritated me on multiple occasions. One of those times being when she sat around talking about how wrong it was that models looked so thin. There wasn't anything wrong with it, but I'm so freaking tired of hearing about that so it bothered me. Seems like everyone is getting fat now a days, people needn't worry because their children will likely do the same. Can't they talk about the positives? Spain requires their models to have a certain BMI now because they don't want their models too thin. Alright off topic, sorry. Anyway, as much as I love HP, I don't think it's really my job to defend JKR as a person.

JKR work is definitely worth defending, because of how much it is loved and cherished by so many. But, as acidpop says, I'm not so sure about her as a person. Sometimes, I don't like the way she acts in interviews and such--she just strikes me the wrong way.
She's probably a very nice lady, once you get to know her. But, that's just it--we don't know her. At least, not personally. I can't exactly judge her when I know so little about her life except for the part she decides to edit and share with everyone else.
But of course I love Harry Potter. Defend to the end and all that. I am extremely loyal to her work. It's magnificent and spellbinding--both literaly and figuratively. I am so glad for her imagination; I wouldn't be able to live without it.

I feel exactly as you do
sherrilina, and I too will always look upon the first five Harry Potter books as Rowling's best work. I also have to say that I too have lost some respect for her. I wish that she would just "lay low" and not do any more interviews for awhile. But, I guess that's too much to ask for since the 6th movie is scheduled to be released next summer and no doubt she'll be out in the limelight (her favorite place it seems) again!
Oops! It seems like I had already replied to this thread! Oh well, nothing has changed for me!
