I could smell the fear reeking off the man, the stench of it was over powering all of my other senses. I couldn’t take it. I launched myself at the man and tumbled over him. I got back up to leap at him again, but when I looked, he was gone. The man had probably ran off after coming face to face with a werewolf.

I slowly made my way through the woods by the bright light of the full moon. The trees around me started coming closer together the farther into the heart of the forest that I walked.

Something slammed into the back of me, hard. I turned around and bared my teeth, a snarl leaking through. I looked down and saw a huge black dog staring up at me innocently. I leaped at the dog, but it was too fast. The dog bounded away in one gigantic leap.

The chase was on.

I followed that dog all through the woods. All night I had spent tracking the giant fur ball, and it got me no where.

All too soon the moon vanished from the sky and the first rays of sunlight could be seen on the horizon. The transformation back to human form had some how become less painful. As I regained all my human senses, I realized that I was very far away from home.

Suddenly a hand landed on my shoulder. I jumped, turned around and pulled my wand out of my tattered clothes.

“Relax Moony, it’s just me.” Sirius said, raising his hands in mock surrender.

I put away my wand and scowled at Sirius.

“What are you doing here?” I asked as I plunged into the woods, on my way home.

“Well someone had to keep you company.” said Sirius.

I suddenly remembered every detail of last night perfectly.

“Sirius, did you see a guy out here last night?” I asked.

“No, why?”

“I think I might have killed him.” I said sullenly.

“I’m sure you didn’t Moony, you couldn’t hurt a fly.” reassured Sirius.

“Yeah, maybe when I’m human.” I looked over at Sirius to see that he wasn’t with me any more.

I looked ahead and saw Padfoot bounding away through the trees.

“Great.” I muttered to myself. The huge dog came up to me and transformed back into my best friend.

“Well, I couldn’t smell anyone, nor see anyone dead all around.” said Sirius proudly.

“That doesn’t mean nothing. My house is on the far side of the woods, I could have ran into him anywhere along the way.” I answered. Sirius’ face fell.

“Well a dog’s nose can smell pretty far, I’m sure I smelled all the way to your house.” said Sirius.

“Your right, I probably just scared the guy. He is probably home, safe, and forgot it ever happened.” I said.

Forgetting being attacked by someone who used to be your best friend wasn’t easy. I can understand why he would want to kill me.

A little rat was scurrying in the under brush through the woods. He could hear the conversation of his long lost friends far off behind him, but he didn’t dare go back and confront them.

I was finally back at home. Spending all night as a werewolf, then retracing your steps back home when you are already worn out, wasn’t fun. Luckily, Padfoot made the trip short by pointing me in the right direction.

“I’m going to have to head back to headquarters pretty soon. You should drop by some time.” Sirius said.

We were both lounging on the couch inside my small cabin in the woods. It had two rooms, my bedroom and the living room/kitchen. It was small, but big enough for one person.

“I’ll try.” I said.

Sirius stood up. “I will see you soon.” With that he turned on the spot and vanished.
