I was fortunate to see "My Boy Jack", the story of Rudyard Kipling's son, John (Jack) and his desire to fight for the British army in World War I. Daniel Radcliffe plays the part of Jack and did a wonderful job. Kim Catrell of "Sex and the City" played the part of Jack's mother, Carrie Kipling, and was so different from her "Sex and the City" character that I had a hard time believing it was her!

Dan has matured a lot since his performance in "Order of the Phoenix" and for the most part his role as Jack was different and distinguishable from that of Harry Potter. However, there were a few scenes, especially when he was morally outraged that he resembled Potter so much that I chuckled out loud, almost expecting him to yell "he betrayed my parents!" I suppose the reason for this is that Jack wore glasses very similar to Harry Potter, that it was hard for Radcliffe NOT to look like Harry! In one scene it was raining so hard and he was trying to shoot at a target, and not doing very well since he could not see through his rain-soaked glasses. I thought he should say "Impurvious" to help him see in the rain ( like Hermione did in PoA book). In another scene he had tape around the bridge of his glasses and, again, I thought he should use "Occulus Reparo"!

Aside from these rare Potter Distractions smile.gif, "My Boy Jack" is well worth seeing. It is a tv movie, which I saw on PBS (US), and I understand it has been on IPV(1), which I think is in Britain. I'm wondering if anyone else has seen it, and if so what your thoughts are on the movie.

I saw a long extract of 'My Boy Jack' and I was really impressed with how Dan has matured, not only in character and looks but also how he has improved his acting skills over the years. His adorable performances in PS is by no means bad but as many people will agree, it has been really lovely to see how the whole cast have progressed. Another way in which we see Dan mature is the nature of the projects which he takes on. For example, his role in Equus is a deep, complicated role just as My Boy Jack is emotional.

I saw it a while back and can't remember very much. Ok so I remember the general plot and stuff but detail...you know. Anyway it was very good and I did see the difference between Jack and Harry...a rather significant difference but again there are those wierd things that reminded me of Harry. Like that wierd laugh he does and again the tape on the glasses.
...my favourite bit was where he got shot....how many times? laugh.gif Bad me mad.gif
