Please note that this is the first actual book-based HP game I've ever played (I've played Quidditch but that's it), so I don't know how these designers' minds work. Now, on to the point.
I'm stuck on the level where Ron has to save Neville from the ghoul. I've launched him into that higher room in the Muggle Studies classroom, and he's learned Lumos Duo, but I just can't figure out what needs to be done! I see the mirror, the crystal ball and that eye, but I just don't know what to do.

Erm, it's been a while since I played it, but I think you've got to get the cage at the far side of the room open first, which I think you do by using Lumos Duo on the globe thing and then moving the mirror until it shines on the eye thingy above the cage. Once the cage is open, use Lumos Duo on the ghoul and push him back with it until he's in the cage. It should slam shut behind him then.
BTW, this game is one of the most bloody annoying I've played!!!
Best of luck with it!!

Have you beaten the hinkypunks and gotten through the gate yet? (Hindypunks in the book.)
Shine the Lumos Duo on the Hinkypunks until they fall asleep. Then, while they are asleep, use Flipendo on each of then 2x.
After you're done with all of the hinkypunks, shine the Lumos Duo on the crystal ball. Then make the crystal ball hit the eye. The gate then opens, leading you to another door.
Then go through another pair of the robot thingys and the duck thingys, which leads you to ANOTHER pair of doors. There is a train near you carrying a crystal ball. In the same room, you have to go against a robot that fires a bunch of missles at you. Kill him with repeated Flipendos and then the train will stop. After it stops, use the Lumos duo on the crystal ball which will reflect and hit another eye. That opens the gate in the chamber. Jump off the ledge and then shine the lumos duo on the ghoul until you push him back into the cage.
My brother told me all of this, who beat the game in 2 days. (He said it was really hard, but you'll be okay.)... I hope it helps!
Some of this is exactly what Dana_Scully said, but a review of the whole level more like. <3s

I'll second that. It might be the same on X-Box... but I doubt it.
First, find the faries. They run away, but you have to find them again to continue. Before you find them a second time, Malfoy and his gang will duel with you. After they run away, get Hermione to use "reparo (sp?)" on the dragon near the bush. Then use the firey thingy on the dragon with Hermione. Then, the faries will fly out of the bush (that's where they are the second time). Beat them with using flipendo on one, then use the Freezing Spell to freeze them on the ground. Pick them up for Potions. Do this 3x. After that, you're done until the dementors come.
Use Harry to cast "Expecto Patronum" against the dementors. Do this until they go away. Then you've finished.
Sorry if this doesn't work, like I said this is on X-Box.

Thanks, both of you guys helped me out a lot!
Now, um... *blushes* I need some more help. I'm in Hogsmeade, Harry's just learned the Patronus Charm and I've let all of the fairies loose (I'm trying to collect fairy wings for Snape's potion). I've got one fairy wing, but I'll tell you the truth: I have absolutely NO flipping clue as to how I did it!!! I just need help figuring out how to get the wings off of those blasted fairies.

Jul 23 2004, 07:55 AM
No probs!! You must have already had Hermione to use 'Reparo' on the dragon statue and then..erm...is it 'Draconifors' to set the bush on fire? All you do then is use Hermione again to put the flames out on those poor little fairies with 'Glacius', then Ron and Harry should start stunning them for you with 'Flippendo'. If they don't, guess you'll just have to 'Flippendo' them yourself - can't rely on guys at all, can you? **sigh**!! You can just walk up to the fairies and collect them then.
Hope this helps!!

I just finished the Carpe Retractum Challenge and I ended with only three Challenge Shields!

I pulled some lever and saw some beam appear connecting one of those ledge-thingys on the sides to another ledge where the Challenge Shield was, but I couldn't figure out how to get up to either of the ledges. (Sorry that I'm not being very articulate about my problem... "ledge-thingys"...

) Anyway, can someone help me find the other Challenge Shields or at least give me a general idea of where they are? When I played with my friend who is very good at the game, she got all the shields... it was very impressive. Now I want to get to the Bean Bonus Room on my own!

man i am sorry but i so not understand your problem are you talking about just getting a wholbuch of beans, cause if you are then only ron can find them and you can go to the dungreons and you will see a pot on your way down there just shoot flipendo at it and you will get beans, then go to the great hall and go back to the dongeons and repeat the proses until you have all of the beans that you want. if you want to write back to me or either if you have a yahoo account and have yahoo instant messager i will more than glidily help you with your problem. my screen name is swirlctw.

I've played this game all the way through about eight times, so trust me when I say that the Challenge shields are there. I found the Carpe Retractum Challenge not necessarily the hardest, but most certainly the cleverest.
In order to find the shields, you have to take the time to look around every room. Take a minute after any creatures have been taken care of to look behind you. And keep an eye out for the glowing blue balls (what were they called again?) that you can cast Carpe Retractum on.
I'm trying to figure out your problem with "ledge-thingies", but am a bit clueless as to where you're talking about. I can think of two ledges that might qualify for what you're talking about. One is where the platforms you land on start moving, and a Carpe Retractum ball does come down form the ceiling and will pull you towards the Challenge Shield. Another is after you enter the room with the Fire Crabs on the platforms, and you should be able to jump on that one.
I hope I've been helpful to you. Good luck!

Anyway i am putting it all here but if you need any help with any of the games feel free to ask me

CARPE RETRACTUM CHALLENGE
Objective: Collect 10 Challenge Shields
Secrets: 5
Collector's cards:
- #1 red (vampire), Sir Herbert Varney
- #2 red (vampire), Amarillo Lestoat
- #5 red (vampire), Count Vlad Drakul
- #3 red (vampire), Lady Carmilla Sanguina
- #4 red (vampire), Blodwyn Blud
Immediately after finishing the tutorial, your third year at Hogwarts
begins with Defence Against the Dark Arts and the Carpe Retractum chal-
lenge. You play as Ron for this challenge and only Ron can cast Carpe
Retractum.
As the challenge begins, use CR to pull yourself to the floating platform.
Depulso the switch in the wall ahead of you to reveal another CR statue.
Pull yourself across to the balcony, and then use CR to pull down a
lever in the far wall, making a ledge. A Spongify tile is revealed; follow
Professor Lupin's instructions to bounce yourself up to the ledge.
Drop into the pit in front of you and use CR to pull out the stone block
in the far wall. Climb up it, turn the corner and repeat the process to
collect your first Challenge Shield.
Turn through the door to your right and Depulso the armor for some beans.
Continue down the hall, jumping over the pit, and Depulso another suit of
armor for some more beans. Turn to your left through the doorway and you
find yourself on a ledge facing a bottomless pit. To your right are some
floating platforms with CR statues on them; ignore them for the moment.
Looking straight across from the doorway, notice another ledge with a gold
chest. Turn to your left and Depulso the armor to move it backwards. Step
into its slot and Depulso the switch in the wall. A CR statue will appear
on the opposite ledge. Pull yourself across and open the chest for a
collector's card (#1 red, First Secret). Now pull yourself to the first
floating platform; pull the ropes to reveal two ledges; and then carefully
jump across to the far floating platform and its Challenge Shield.
From the shield platform, jump back to the nearest ledge and then jump
through the doorway to your first Save Book. The next room contains your
first imp fight (Oh Joy!), so be prepared. After the first imp has been
eliminated, two more will pop out of a hidden alcove. Dispose of them
to reveal a Spongify tile and an opening in the ceiling. Don't forget to
Alohomora the cabinets on either side of the room before leaving.
Once you bounce up into the next chamber, you will have to fight off
two waves of three pixies each. This is relatively simple and opens the
way to the next room. Don't forget to open the nearby gold chest for
some goodies.
The next hallway has four suits of armor and, under a grate in the floor,
a Challenge Shield. Depulso all the armor for some beans and to open the
grate and raise the shield. Advance to the next room.
It's another bottomless pit, but this time, some of the floating platforms
are moving. The CR statues hanging from the ceiling allow you to hang from
them indefinitely. So pull yourself to each one and hang there until a
platform is under your feet. Press either mouse button to release the spell
and drop to the platform. After you have pulled yourself to the first plat-
form, look back and CR yourself to the hidden alcove for your Second Secret
and a collector's card (#2 red). When you reach the last floating platform,
look to your left to see a wall lever. Pull it to open a ledge and another
hanging CR statue above it. Pull yourself up and collect your fourth Chal-
lenge Shield. Now pull yourself down to the next doorway and continue.
After going through the Save Book, you'll find yourself in a hallway facing
a pit. Even though you can see the bottom of the pit, do NOT drop into it.
Before crossing, Depulso the armor on either side of the hallway. CR the
block in the far wall of the pit to pull it out and give you something to
jump on. Cross the pit and continue to the corner. Depulso the two suits of
armor at the corner and then look up. A secret alcove will open above you
(Third Secret). CR up to it and open the chest to get a collector's card
(#5 red) and some cauldron cakes. Now jump down and continue across the next
pit in the same way as the previous pit.
Through the locked door at the bottom of the stairs lies your first en-
counter with a fire crab. Use Rictusempra to knock it into the trap and
open the door. In the next room is a repeat, but with two fire crabs this
time. From here, head through a short hallway to another bottomless pit
room. There's a Challenge Shield just ahead, but the way to it is circuitous.
First, turn right and CR yourself to the floating platform. Once the plat-
form moves over to a small ledge, jump across. Dispose of the pixies, and
then cross the pit to the next ledge using the CR block. Now use CR to
get to the next floating platform and then ride the platform to the shield
and back. Now use CR to get yourself to the next ledge and then on to the
Save Book.
Through the locked door, knock the fire crabs off the small floating
platforms. Two hanging CR statues will come out. Pull yourself across to
the first platform and then use CR on the blocks on the far wall to build
a staircase. Pull yourself to the next platform and then jump to the
staircase and climb it.
Climb into the alcove above the staircase and Depulso the armor and the
switch in the wall. Now pull yourself across to the near ledge. Before
going through the archway, look over to your right and use CR to pull
the lever. Jump across and get Challenge Shield #6. Now jump back and
continue through the arch.
CHECKPOINT: You should have six Challenge shields and three of five secrets
at this point in the challenge.
After the game loads the next section, continue into a large room with
a fire crab. Push the crab into the trap, which will open both the door next
to the trap and a secret door behind you. Go through the secret door, down
the stairs and pull the rope. After pulling the rope, turn around and Depulso
the banner on the wall for some cauldron cakes. Go back up the stairs and
pull yourself up to the walkway that was revealed and collect the shield.
Alohomora the gold chests at either end of the room to release a plethora
of beans into the room. Collect your beans and continue.
Another bottomless pit. You know the drill now. When you get across to the
ledge with the Save Book, look right to see another floating platform. Pull
yourself over to that one, and then pull the rope. Now pull yourself to the
next platform and then up to the ledge. In the small hall, Depulso the
armor on your left until a hidden stairwell is revealed. Up the stairs to
get a bunch of goodies and a collector's card (#3 red, Fourth Secret). Now
back down the stairs and then out the opening to your left to get another
Challenge Shield (#8). Then pull yourself back across to the Save Book ledge.
After a short hall, you will enter a room with some imps. Defeat them and
then Depulso the armor. One suit will spit out pixies along with beans
and pumpkins. (It's the suit to your right when facing the exit.) The other
suit is in a revolving alcove. Each time you hit the armor, it spits out
treats and then turns, revealing another suit. Hit four suits and the last
one will give you a collector's card (#4 red). If you look down through the
grate in this room, you will see a Challenge Shield. We'll be getting it
momentarily.
Continue into the next hallway and go to the end. On the right you will see
a picture of a gargoyle. Alohomora it to reveal an actual gargoyle, which
you can then cast Lumos on to reveal an opening in the floor of the hall
behind you. Drop down and turn around to get the golden chest, then follow
the hall to a Spongify tile (Fifth Secret). Use it to bounce up and collect
the shield below the room you were in previously. Now back through the
hallway, you will need to use the CR statue to pull yourself over the
secret opening.
Now to the last room. From the hallway, exit to a ledge and look to your
right. CR the blocks from the wall and then jump over to them and climb up
to the next ledge. Depulso the armor at either end and then pull the ropes.
Knock the fire crabs off the ledges that pop out of the walls and CR across
to the final ledge and get the tenth shield to complete the challenge.

ok.when it stops, and opens the oven-thingy doors,go under it and do the glaciaus spell on it.then when it goes all on fire run to a spot and wait till one of the hand(torches)comes at you.get out of the way if it hits you.do the glaciaus again but on it harry and ron will cast flippendo at it and if chips fall off it you're doing good.but if it flys up and joins that oven monster then do what i told you again.i hope it works.

After you get Hermione to Glacius all the handles, get Ron, Hermione, and Harry to grab a handle. (This took me a while to figure out.) Then the thing they're standing on will drop down- I don't exactly remember what happened after that, but just thought I'd give you a hand!

Okay...i'm, really annoyed. i fighted myself through the whole game but now i'm stuck with this stupid knight and his stupid swords (sorry can't help to write down these words...because well i'm annoyed ) i got throgh the first part with this charming knight at the end of carpe retractum but this fellow pulled out his swords i panicked and really don't know what to do.
Please help me and don't laugh, i'm not much of a player.
thanks!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What you need to do is cast Carpe Retractum on the little shields that protect the knight and pull them off. They'll turn into these monster thingies and they'll chase you. You need to wait for them to rear up and expose the red lights on their bellies and then you cast...erm...Flippendo, I think at them. You need to do that a few times before they die.
There are a couple of those shield-monsters, so just keep repeating that until you've killed them all.
You then need to use Carpe Retractum on the knights head to pull it off, and I think (it's been a while since I played it) you have to cast Flippendo on that too.
I think that's the knight you mean.....although, come to think of it....there is another knight towards the end, isn't there?
Well, carpe retractum should pull his swords away...I can't remember what you do with them after that. I think they just come away when you pull them, I don't think you need to fight them again.
It is a bit of a pain, that one, from what I remember....make sure you've got plenty of Wiggenweld before you fight him

Hope that helped!
Good luck...

I took 2 days, but I don't like it very much..
Of course it's better then the Cos: the are more things to find, more riddles to resolve and more rooms too see.
another good thing is that you can go wherever you want in the Hogwarts ground.
Nevertheless it's not good it's too easy: the last scene with the dementors is quite ridiculous.
Another terrible thing: the voices of the characters are different from the voices of the actors, except Hagrid's one (I'm talkin' about the Italian version, I don't know if in America it's the same...)
The graphics were quite good on xbox but EA games can do something better: in some cases to change views is quite chaotic..

You have to get Ron to use Lumos on them until they become visible and then you have to blast them with Flippendo...from what I remember...it's been a very long time since I played that game

I think there's like two rounds...two in the first round and three in the next. They'll stop coming back once you've beaten about five or six of them.
It's really hard, that bit...I swore quite a bit doing that, as I recall...

Jan 17 2006, 10:38 PM
Where the goul is? The ghoat thingies or gouls? You defeat them both in the same way.
You use lumos and direct them into a corner and once it turns visible, the other two will start flipendoing them, and you can corner the rest.

Jan 2 2007, 02:57 PM
Well if the ps2 version is like the gamecube and xbox version then this is simple, since I have this game on both consoles. While you are playing Hermione in that challenge you have to find another switch to open that other door, you wil not be able to play as Ron or Harry at this point until Hermione finds the switch. Once she finds the switch and opens up the door Ron and Harry will come across on their own and rejoin Hermione. But during this phase of the game you can only play as her so find that switch. Ron and Harry are of no use to you at this point..
Hope that helps!

Grr. . .the hinkypunks are driving me up a wall. I'm at the point of saving Neville from the ghoul and this is my second time redo-ing the game, but the hinkypunks are so hard. I'm doing what I'm supposed to, shining 'Lumos' over them until they materialize, then Flipendo-ing them to disappear, but what's hard for me is those fire balls. I know that you can tell thery're going to throw one by their lanterns swinging, but while I'm trying to get rid of one, I'm vulnerable to the fire balls. Does anyone have any tips?
Also, I was looking on hints/cheats sites as a last resort, and there is an invulnerabilty cheat, but so far only for X-box, which is frustrating because I;m playing Playstation 2. Does anyone know of a similar cheat for PS2?

If you've gotten to the part when Dumbledore says who won the house cup and you are redirected to the main menu then you are done. If you are near the house point things and Dumbledore tells you that if there is anything you want to do like earn house points or explore then you need to either earn house points, explore, or talk to Dumbledore again and then you will be done. Hope that wasn't to confusing.
