Hey all!! I've heard about Sweeney Todd quite a bit around the forums and thought i would start a topic about it...

Any fans? Questions about the movie?

I know i am a fan! I think Sweeney Todd is brilliant!!! The collaboration of Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Alan Rickman is amazing!

What are your thoughts on it?

Note: SPOILER WARNING!!! IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE, DON'T READ THIS TOPIC UNLESS YOU WANT TO KNOW THE ENDING!!!!
cristipotter
Hey Alli! laugh.gif Sweeney Todd was so creepy and great! I really really enjoyed it, even though it was a bit...well, very bloody! The ending was so shocking for me because I had no idea what the story was about, I only knew that Sweeney Todd beheaded people for some reason tongue.gif But I thought it was really fun to watch, all the music and the acting was amazing. Helena, Alan, Johnny, and all of them were really good!

Ginny&Harryforever
I thought that the good thing about the blood in the movie was that it was really fake looking. And there were only 3 scenes in it that were significantly bloody! But there was a ton of blood! Do you think that Lucy knew that Sweeney was her husband and Johanna was her daughter when she saw them? I think the arsenic did somethin terrible to her head. She must not have known who Mrs. Lovett was either or recognized her from the old days.
Lily_Potter
Oh I loved Sweeney Todd! I am a big fan of Johnny Depp, I love his versatility. I also like Helena Bonham Carter, she is just so great at playing demented wacko.gif .

The movie was incredibly twisted and gory. The blood did look fake, but just the idea that these people were getting their throats slashed and then their bodies dumped down a shaft where they landed on their heads, is pretty sick. Not to mention the bodies were getting grinded and baked into pies, eek!

Yeah, I am not sure Lucy knew that Sweeney was her husband, but he did seem familiar to her. I think she was too out of it to recognize instantly that it was him. Probably why she didn't recognize Mrs. Lovett either. I think she must have blocked out everything that happened.
Ginny&Harryforever
Yeah. Good point. She probably just blocked out everything, either that or the arsenic did that for her. And I agree. Helena Bonham Carter is very good at playing demented roles. Did you predict the ending at all before it happened? I know i didnt! I was totally oblivious to it! And what did you think when Mrs. Lovett got pushed into the fire? That was for me actually the only part where i screamed the first time i saw it.
Just the Droobles
Mmm...I love Sweeney Todd. happy.gif

The blood didn't bother me that much because it looked so fake that I almost feel like they were kind of making fun of really gory stuff. I think if Tim Burton tried to make it look realistic it would have lost its flair. If you know what I mean.... And actually, this may sound weird and slightly crazy, but my mom and I actually started laughing during the sequence when several people kept getting dropped down the chute onto their heads. For some reason that struck me funny. I'm not a morbid person, but it was kind of humourous. blush.gif

Helena Bonham Carter is probably my favorite actress. I think she did brilliantly in Sweeney Todd and her voice is very unusual and I like it a lot. Apparently she had a lot of training to be able to sing really well though. I guess it all paid off.

I had no idea what the ending was gonna be until the boy grabbed the knife. Toby. When he reappeared I was like... "Man, he's gonna kill Sweeney Todd." Definitely saw Mrs. Lovett going into the fire though. It was all in the camera angles. They danced in front of it and it was all looming in the background and such. She was totally doomed.

I think Lucy may have realized who Sweeney Todd was. Otherwise why was she always lurking around and why did she go up to the barbershop? I don't know. Kind of strange.

By the Sea was hands down my favorite scene from the whole movie though. Fantastic. biggrin.gif
Ginny&Harryforever
I totally agree with you that if Tim had tried to make the blood look real it would have definitely lost something. My mom thinks its sick, but one time when we were watching it, my mom had me turn it off because my dad totally lost interest when he found out that Sweeney Todd kills random people. Anyway, i told her that i cant turn it off yet cuz my favorite one was coming up. Yes, i do have a favorite random person that he kills. I like the old man because he splashes the camera, but my favorite is when Sweeney spins around looking at his razor and then slices the guys throat. I just think its funny how he does it so casually.

Helena Bonham Carter is my favorite actress too! I love her versitility! Like Johnny Depp, she could play any part although she seems to favor darker parts. Yeah, she did get a lot of training to make her voice sound as good as it did. She really wanted the part but Tim was skeptical because she couldnt sing. She went through singing lessons for 3 months and ended up getting the part. She had lessons throughout the filming as well i believe and it only improved her voice more.

I suppose i should have seen it coming that helena was gonna get thrown into the fire, but i didnt. And i totally didnt see that sweeney todd was going to get killed until i saw toby with the razor.

I think the reason Lucy was hanging around the shop was that she was suspicious of Mrs. Lovett because of the smells coming from the chimneys at night. I dont think she knew that her Benjamin lived there. Because Mrs. Loveet was trying to prevent her from seeing him and him from seeing her because she was afraid they would recognize each other. So i dont think Lucy even saw sweeney until the very end.

I like By the Sea too. It was the only scene except for the flashbacks that had vibrant colors. Everything else in the movie was dark and sad looking.

Wow, i wrote a lot!
Just the Droobles
Helena might have also been really considered for the part because she's married to Tim Burton. At least I'm pretty sure she is. I know they have a kid together. Plus her and Johnny and Tim Burton always collaborate together. So I think she was probably one of the better choices for Mrs. Lovett.

I don't remember exactly what happened when Sweeney came across Lucy other than he killed her. Did she say anything? I guess I'm going to have to pay attention when I watch again to see if she seems like she recognizes him or anything. She also may have been lurking around Mrs. Lovett because she knew that it was Mrs. Lovett that did everything to her. (It was wasn't it?)

I think I need to brush up on my Sweeney knowledge! Haven't seen it in a while...
DeSs
Since I heard of Sweeney Todd, I was dying to watch it! And I finally did, after a loong delay, last Friday, alone at the living room.
The film is creepy from start to end, but brilliant the same time. The old London is well pictured and makes you feel the atmosphere: smelly, dirty, grey, corrupted. I love it being sung: it's like it makes it still mournful. And it doesn't matter the actors aren't singers at all, the way they do it it's brilliant. Well, Johanna does sings brilliantly, I think. But the others aren't out of tune.
The way Sweeney kills his victims and throws them by the chair it's simply chilly. Johnny Deep has that 'something' that makes you think of a cold-blooded murdered, and agree with Ginny&Harryforever in the randomness of the people and way of razor them is totally ... like between funny and horrifing.
Argh, I was shivering all that night.
And the end really surprise me! No, Lucy did not say anything about Benjamin. I think she was still mad. But it wasn't Mrs Lovett who did her drink the poison! I have a doubt, though. What happened to Mr Lovett? I didn't catch that.
Ah, I was saying, the final really surprised me, when the kid killed him ... oh, and the kid is another curiosity. I looked at him with a mix of pity and laugh, because of his poor innocence.
I loved when Mrs Lovett is dreaming ... totally hilarious! Especially the face Sweeney put laugh.gif
Ginny&Harryforever
In Response to Just the Droobles:

Theyre not married, but they live together and have 2 kids together so they might as well be! Tim originally had said that she would be perfect for the part, except that she couldnt sing. So even Tim was a little skeptical.

When Sweeney saw Lucy, here was their dialogue:
SWEENEY: Who are you? What are you doing here?
LUCY: Evil it is sir, the stink of evil from below. From her! She's the Devil's wife! Beware of her sir! She with no pity in her heart! Hey, don't i know you, mister?
JUDGE TURPIN (heard from outside): Mr. Todd?

And in a hurry, Sweeney kills Lucy. See, if he would have paused for maybe 10 seconds, he would have probably recognized her! I mean Johanna was in the trunk! They were all in the same room for about a minute! The irony just amazes me!

Mrs. Lovett didnt poison Lucy. Lucy actually did poison herself. The only Mrs. Lovett did was tell Sweeney that Lucy was dead. Mrs. Lovett didnt do anything directly TO Lucy.

Dont even ask how i know all this stuff... i just do. Ive seen the movie enough times and watched all the special features pretty much. I dont even own the movie! Lol. Thats why i can answer pretty much any question about the movie. Cuz i know or have thories about basically anything you can ask me. I know thats kind of sick, but its sorta true! Lol.

To Dess,
Mr. Lovett i think died. Mrs. Lovett mentioned something about how he liked to gorge himself to blotation so he probably died of a heart attack or something. Lol. Either that or she killed him! Ha!! I wouldnt put it past her!

Yeah, the look Sweeney has on his face the entire By the Sea scene is priceless!!!!
Just the Droobles
Ha, looks like I *definitely* need to watch Sweeney Todd again. rolleyes.gif It's actually on loan to someone right now, so that makes it kind of difficult.

Pretty amazing that Lucy can live through arsenic poisoning though.

What kills me is that Johanna could have easily said her name and shown him she was a girl and maybe he would have realized who she was and things would have been happy....ah. I hate it when that happens in movies and theatre. When a character gets so close to happiness, but they just can't get a break.

I think not only did this show off Helena Bonham Carter's singing skills, but it showed off a lot of people that I don't think many movie-goers knew could sing. Johnny Depp...well, he was in a band, but no one's really ever heard him sing. And Alan Rickman was good, and Timothy Spall surprised me. I loved Sasha Baren Cohen. He's great. biggrin.gif That whole scene is great. I think "big" actors and actresses in a musical is awesome.

Oh, yes, the irony. I sat with my mouth wide open in the end as I couldn't stop thinking of how ironically it all was. As he was trying to revenge his 'dead' wife and imprisoned daughter, he in fact ruined it all for himself as he was so caught up in revenge. Very sad and a part of me wishes that he'd known of the daughter before he died, knowing she was okay. Or maybe that Lucy would see that Sweeney was in fact Benjamin Barker. But I guess it was all to make such a ironical (and maybe sad) ending as possible.

Didn't Mrs Lovett just say that Lucy had taken poison. Now it's been a while since I've seen the movie, but I understood it as she just say 'she took poison' and that was the end of that conversation. First later in the end she said that she in fact knew Lucy hadn't died. But I'm not sure?

No, in the beginning, Sweeney asks, "Where's Lucy? Where's my wife?"
and Mrs. Lovett says, " she poisoned herself. Arsenic. From the apothecary 'round the corner. Tried to stop her. But she wouldnt listen to me...."

And then in the end she says, "No, no not lied at all. No, I never lied. Said she took a poison, she did, never said that she died. Poor thing! She lived, butit left her weak in the head, all she did for months was just lie there in bed. Shoulda been in hospital wound up in Bedlam instead. Poor thing! Better you should think she was dead, yes i lied cos i love you! I'd be twice the wife she was, i love you! Could that thing have cared for you like me?"

Sorry. Probably didnt need the whole line, but i wanted to put the whole thing in there because most of the time, especially if youve only seen it a couple times, its next to impossible to catch everything she says. If there is ever anything that you are unclear about, as far as lyrics, let me know! Theres only like one line im not absolutely sure of, i think. Sad, isnt it? I get obsessed with things easily! rolleyes.gif

Oh, i agree with Just the Droobles that this movie definitely shows off some major actors and actresses' singing voices that no one really knew could sing! I also agree that its cool when "big" actors are in a musical! A lot of them! I think its funny that 3 big characters have been in the Harry Potter movies too! Hm... Wormtail, Bellatrix, and Snape. All past or present Death Eaters. Ha! And they all end up dying in the 7th book!
Sad that i take the time to notice these things. I actually just thought of them off the top of my head!! Lol.

That's what I meant too. tongue.gif Sorry I must have musunderstood you. In fact we thought the same thing haha. Oh, I liked when Mrs Lovett told that, so I didn't mind at all! Just as I'm in love withthe beginning when she's like "Poor thing, poor thing!"

Helena played that part to brilliancy, she's really a great villian. Think she did just a great a fantastic job here as she do playing Bellatrix, which she does so it becomes all scary!
Ginny&Harryforever
Lol. A little misunderstanding! Oh well! biggrin.gif

I think my favorite song in the movie is probably A Little Priest because of all the funny stuff they come up with although all of the songs are great! My favorite character is probably Sweeney, although Mrs. Lovett ranks right up there. The first time i saw the movie, i was actually kind of sad when she died because i liked her character so much, but she really did deserve it!

Does anyone know if either the girl who plays Johanna or the guy that plays Antony have ever been in anything else? Everyone else is so well known...

You can just go look at imdb.com, but I'll do it for you, I love that site tongue.gif Johanna is played by a girl named Jayne Wisener. She hasn't played in any other movies, but is to be in Boogeyman 3 which should be released in 2009.. Anthony is played by Jamie Campbell Bower. He's not in any movies either, but to be on RocknRolla which comes out in this year and Oorlogswinter which should also come out this year. I don't know how big any of their parts in these movies are, but they are in them tongue.gif

I think the whole movie is filled with great actors. I can't really name one who I don't think played his/her part well. Though my favourites (because I can't name one) is Sweeney and Mrs Lovett.
Ginny&Harryforever
I love imdb too! I was just really lazy that day and didnt feel like looking them up! Lol! Thats cool that they [are] both gonna [be] in other movies now!

The other day, i tried to my friend to watch sweeney. She had me turn it off during Green Finch and Linnet Bird [cause] she thought that it was stupid. she also thought My Friends was stupid. But i let her borrow my iPod, and shes been listening to the soundtrack, and she said shes starting to like it and wants to try watching it again. Hopefully, she will like it this time. What do everyone's friends say about Sweeney? I know ive heard mixed reviews from my friends. some love it, some hate it.

I have a friend who loved Sweeney Todd so much! I think it was mainly because she's obsessed with Johnny Depp, but still, she loved the movie. The second time she saw it she dragged me and a couple of friends to the theatre to watch it (well, she didn't drag me, I really wanted to see it!) and most of them thought the movie was just creepy, but some of us thought it was really great laugh.gif

I kept singing one of the songs, don't remember which one, for the rest of the day biggrin.gif The soundtrack was pretty cool!
harry_potter_luvr_4life
I love Sweeney Todd!!! Helena Bohem Carter and Johnny Depp and Alan Rickman and the guy who played Wormtail all in one movie!!! I have three Todd shirts. One of which I bought today and am wearing. It is a black thermal longsleve shirt that reads "Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street" With a razor and blood on the arm. I love the movie and merchandise!!!

Great actors, actresses, special effects are ok, and good merchandise!!! Just a push over for Depp and Potter stars all together.

Hello!
i love this movie,I saw it in theaters and bought it once it came out on DVD biggrin.gif
I loved Johnny's,Helena's,Alan's and everyone else's acting in this movie, and their singing. No one was bad, they were all amazing. The only thing I didn't really like was the ending, the fact that Sweeney Todd dies,I just thought that was the only bad part of the movie. That's party by me loving happy endings though. Basically though i loved it wub.gif

I love the movie!
it's a bit strange, you have that weird feeling after watching the movie... but it's still great biggrin.gif
I mean...Johnny Depp is the main character, what else to say? sleep.gif
Sabrina_Rose_Snape
Sweeney Todd, wow! What a great film! I wasn’t surprised to hear that Johnny Depp was the main character, after all Johnny and Tim Burton have established a fruitful working relationship. Johnny is in so many of Tim’s films like ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, ’Edward Scissorhands’ and ‘Sleepy Hollow’. And then to put Johnny and Helena together was an excellent choice. Mind you maybe Helena got the part because she is engaged/married to Tim but I’m sure he chose her for her great acting skills. And then, to top it all off, Alan Rickman joins the all-shining-star cast. Alan Rickman (love him in Harry Potter), Johnny Deep (love him in Pirates of the Caribbean) and Helena Bonham Carter (love her in Merlin) they are all my favourite actors! So them all in the same movie made a great mix.

When I watched Sweeney Todd, I loved it so much I watched it again the next day and I couldn’t get the songs out my head for ages either. I was just wondering what is everyone’s favourite song from the Sweeney Todd film?
Just the Droobles
Johnny, Helena, and Tim have worked on several films togther, such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Corpse Bride. I definitely think that Johnny and Helena get their parts because of their connections with Tim Burton, but really...can you blame him? If I had Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter on my side, I'd be casting them all the time! And he might as well cast actors and work with people that he knows and is already comfortable with. I love the group though. wub.gif

I've already said that By the Sea is my favorite song, mainly because I thought it was hilarious. However, I really liked Sasha Baren Cohen's song. And I also like the song that Toby and Mrs. Lovett sang together. Unfortunately, I don't know song names. I just think Toby and Mrs. Lovett's song is really pretty. Johanna was pretty too. I love that song. It's always in my head.

....I like all the songs.

By the Sea, what a funny song. I love the way he just sits there with no emotion whatsoever. Sasha Baren Cohen's, Pirelli so I’m guessing the song you mean is ‘Pirelli’s Magical Elixir’ now that is a really good song. Funny lyrics. I agree that the song that Toby and Mrs. Lovett sang together, ’Nothing’s Gonna Harm You’ was a beautiful song. I have to say that your last comment--

cristipotter
I don't know, I actually liked the whole soundtrack! Hmm, I'd have to check Sweeney Todd out again to choose my favorites (I will as soon as I can! happy.gif ) Although, I remember liking Pirelli's Miracle Elixir a lot laugh.gif

Yeah, Helena and Johnny were probably cast because of their closeness to Tim Burton, but who cares tongue.gif they're great actors! If I were Tim Burton, I'd be very happy to have such amazing actors close to me and being able to cast them. Most of their movies are really good, and they indeed make a great group!
harry_potter_luvr_4life
what is everyone’s favourite song from the Sweeney Todd film?

Mine has to be Epiphany. It is just very dramatic. I love drama. Plus almost the whole song is Johnny Depp except for a few lines in the beginning with Helena Bonham Carter. It was a great movie and I loved all the songs. That one the most though.

Johnny was probably cast because of his closeness to tim burton, but at first he wasnt sure if he could do the part because he really didnt know if he could sing. Helena however, said in an interview that she didnt get cast because shes Tim's girlfriend; he had doubted that she could do it because he didnt think she could sing. so 3 months before the auditions for the part, she started taking singing lessons and obviously got the part. I think Tim was probably somewhat surprised that she pulled it off and was able to get the part.
harry_potter_luvr_4life
I've watched the special features on the DVD and Burton said he cast Depp before he knew if Depp could sing so when they recorded the soundtrack Burton was very impressed and relieved that Depp could sing. Carter did take singing lessons before trying out. They interviewed her and she admitted it.

Favorite Song?

It would have to be Johanna 2/Reprise! It has the main theme of Johanna - which is gorgeous, and Johnny Depp/Sweeney Todd's part is wonderful, and the "Begger Women" -- wow! Her part is just mindblowing, not beautiful but it's really amazing.
Nymphadora Lupin
I'm joining in! I absolutely loove Sweeney Todd, it's one of my favourite films ever. My favourite director is Tim Burton, favourite actress is Helena Bonham Carter and favourite actor being Alan Rickman. So for this film to come out directed by Tim and with both of them staring in it, you can just imagine how much I love it smile.gif

Anyway, favourite song ... Epiphany. Got to love that cool.gif and I hear ya harry_potter_luvr_4life, it's really dramatic and I think Johnny Depp pulls it off really well. I love most of the songs really ... the reason I say 'most' is because I HATE Wait. It just doesn't seem to fit with what's happening and the song is really not very Sweeney Todd-ish. Yeah it's quite mysterious and stuff but I dunno, it just doesn't sound right!
HighFlyer
Sweeney Todd is one of my favorite musicals. I fell in love with it when I had to watch it in a humanities class a couple years ago.
I think this is Tim Burton's best film ever. I'm a huge fan of him, but there's some of his movies that are just not up to par. This, however, blew all of his other work out of the freakin water.

The music is crazy hard, and anyone who can sing it even remotely decent is 'okay' in my book. For Depp and Bonham-Carter to not be singers they did incredibly well in the movie. Especially Johnny. He was fantastic!

My favorite song is "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd" which was in the film (the opening titles) but the lyrics weren't. That's the only downside to the movie; that they left that song out.
My other favorites are "A Little Priest" and "Epiphany".
Smart Owl
I never saw "Sweeney Todd", on account of the fact that I was too chicken to watch it with my mom and brother. Can someone please tell me how violent it is? I mean, is it worse than "Saw?" Tamer? About the same? (I've never seen "Saw" either, so I probably shouldn't be asking that question.) I read the Sweeney Todd synopsis on Wikipedia, so I know what happens and everything. I'm trying to decide whether to see it or not. I might want to wait until I'm at least old enough to drive, or vote, or retire. (Just kidding about the last one.)
HighFlyer
Sweeney Todd is very gory, but it's also very fake. It's nothing like Saw. I couldn't watch Saw; I can watch Sweeney Todd though.
I saw it with my mom and she loved it. She commented on the gore but agreed with the fact that it was too fake to be of any concern. Although, I think her love for Johnny Depp overrode most of her other concerns laugh.gif

Don't let your fears keep you from seeing it. You won't regret it I promise....well, if you do, you can hit me.
Just the Droobles
I agree with HighFlyer. There is a lot of blood and such, but it's really fake. It's very Tim Burton-esque. And I suppose if you haven't seen a lot of Tim Burton movies that might not mean much to you...

The blood in the movie sort of reminds me of really red wax at some points. Most of the blood, however, spurts out of the necks of the victims. There are little bits where you can hear cracking of necks as some of the bodies fall down the shaft, but it's not gross cracking like in Saw. The whole point of the Saw movies is to gross out the audience, mainly because they are torture movies. They purposely make everything as disgusting as possible.

When the necks get cut, it's not too bad. Some you can tell that skin is being sliced, and others just leak blood.

I think you could handle Sweeney Todd. And if you find that it bothers you, just shield your eyes for a moment. It's always relatively obvious when he's about to cut someone, so I think you'll be ok. Plus, the movie is awesome. wink.gif
Nymphadora Lupin
Ayee I agree, the blood looks so fake, especially near the end. Just the Droobles, you are so right; instead of the blood squirting everywhere, it just kind of ... falls on some people haha.

But Saw isn't even that gory either. But that might just be because I absolutely love gory films and Saw just isn't that bad compared to somethings, but no, Sweeney Todd is definately not gory in my eyes. Yes, the Saw films are gorier, but if you haven't seen the Saws then never mind haha.

I'd say that Sweeney Todd is much more of a musical than a horror ... I've heard it being called both, but I consider it more of a musical, so yeah, don't be afraid tongue.gif
HighFlyer
I think Sweeney Todd, above anything, is a comedy. I think it's hilarious. Even the murders are comical; slitting throats while singing showtunes, heck yes!
Snapefan21
laugh.gif I was happy when I saw this thread. I am absolutely addicted to Sweeney Todd. I wanted to see it of course, because of Alan Rickman. He is really good as Judge Turpin. My favourite song would have to be Epiphany, because of the emotion, and I like how it flows from Mrs Lovett's voice to Sweeney's at the beginning of the song. It is my favourite movie by far, and I watch it like every second day, but I'm still not sick of it. Ironically, it made me more comfortable around knives and razors, instead of scared. huh.gif . I am a huge wimp, but Sweeney Todd doesn't bother me in the slightest. It's very good. If you are of an age that is suitable to see it, I highly recommend it. My obsession with this movie started on December 16, 2007, and is still going strong. wub.gif
Triad
I saw Sweeney Todd for the first time yesterday. I knew there was singing but I didn't realise how much. I was getting rather bored with it towards the end. I didn't mind the song where they're talking about who to make into pies, that was funny. But half of them didn't need to be in there. I'm glad Joanna didn't sing again, her voice irritated me so much I was tempted to turn the DVD off! But I didn't. Mainly because my boyfriend was enjoying the movie, he hates musicals but liked this one.

I liked the scene where he competes against the 'Italian' guy. That was funny but it was too easy to see what was coming up. The was the problem with most of the movie, you could see what was coming.

I couldn't watch the throat slitting bits. They were too ew for my liking. I studied that sort of thing at Tafe so I now how it's done but I still can't watch it. Same with Zombie movies where they tear the skin open, can't watch it. The blood did look too fake but maybe it was to keep the movie......I won't say light but you know. If the blood had look more real it wouldn't have been a Tim Burton film you know?

Was anyone else thinking of Jack Sparrow whenever Johnny Depp spoke?
HighFlyer
Sweeney Todd, at least the original stage production, is very much like an opera. The stage production has even more singing than the movie. An opera is all singing, with maybe a few spoken words thrown in, and I think Sweeney Todd was greatly influenced by that. The songs are a completely different style than other musicals.

The blood is very fake, but I think it was done intentionally. Tim Burton said that in any stage production of the film he say they never used blood, and that was the thing he felt it was lacking. So this was his chance to do it the way he felt it should be done. Lots and lots of blood!

Yes, and somewhere Tim Burton said that by having more blood, it actually makes it less gory. It'd be really sinister if they only used a little bit because it would seem more forbidden and scary.
If you ever thought about it, when Sweeney dropped the bodies down through the hole, they would land in Mrs. Lovett's kitchen, not the basement. tongue.gif

Hey guys! Triad, yes i did think about jack sparrow when sweeney spoke. Something about the way he said certain lines. Ever since i first saw pirates of the caribbean, i think of jack in every other movie i see johnny in. i think it is because jack sparrow was the perfect role for johnny and every other movie he does has a little jack in it. smile.gif

My obsession with this movie started on December 16, 2007, and is still going strong.

That's my birthday! My obsession started a little bit later than that, but not much. From the moment i saw the poster advertising the movie, i wanted to see it, but it didnt become an obsession till later. I was obsessed with Sweeney before i even saw it! wub.gif
Snapefan21
That's your birthday? Well it was a great day!
And I was obsessed before I even saw it, too. I had to wait 6 months after that day in December (long story) and I am a very impatient person.
My other favourite songs were My Friends and Pretty Women, and at the ending, when Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett were singing about how she lied to him. Sure, it makes me cry every time, but it sounds beautiful . Okay, so I like most if the songs, but especially Epiphany and My Friends
I didn't like Not While I'm Around because Sweeney was my favourite character, and Toby was singing about how he was suspicious of him.

What is everyone’s favourite song from the Sweeney Todd film?

Well, there are a lot of great songs in this movie, but personally my favorite is Johanna that Anthony sings first time he sees her; Johanna, of course. tongue.gif It`s very sweet and different from the rest of the movie.

Yes, sweet except for the blood. happy.gif . No, I know what you mean. It's so sweet that Sweeney still thinks about his daughter after fifteen years. It shows that Sweeney still had a heart, and he used it.

Lol, I loved Sweeney Todd. A few of my friends were surprised to find it was real XDDD. I think Johnny Depp was great in it, one of my favourite scenes is when Toby sings "Nothing's Going to Harm You" to Mrs Lovett. Very sweet. I guess the gore wasnt that believeable. But it was still great viewing.

I have a poster of Sweeney Todd! I love it. wub.gif

I was zoned out watching it the other day, as per usual, when I noticed that the layout of the building isn't right. When the bodies fell down the hole in the floor, they'd land in the kitchen, not the basement wink.gif .
I just love any of Tim Burton's films, he has his own unique way of looking at the world.

Hello? Anyone out there a fan of Sweeney Todd? sad.gif No one's posting, so I'll ask a question:

Do you think they made the right choices with the actors they casted as the characters?
BasiliskFang
They made excellent choices with the cast. Helena Bonham Carter played an awesome Mrs. Lovett. I noticed that with her frazzled hair, she really looked like Bellatrix(I know it's her, but still..)Johnny Depp may not have an accent but he can definetly fake one! Toby was a good choice because of his singing even though he did the evil deed, right Snapefan21? Finally, Rickman of course played the perverted Judge Turpin wonderfully! (Nothing agaist Alan though!) The entire cast and movie was a slicing success!!!

I agree with you BasiliskFan! Yes! I think they made wonderful choices! This movie made me absolutely love Helena Bonham Carter, she is my favorite actress now. Ive always loved Johnny but this movie made me love him even more! I think Timothy Spall did an excellent job with his portrayal of the perverted assistant. He does a good job being creepy. smile.gif
