Bouncing Soul, October 31st 1981 was on a Saturday... Go check it out, on an online calender for 1981...
Nevertheless, it's a mistake JKR made, whether it was a Saturday or a Friday...
quidditch hero
hey i've never done this thing before so tell me if i do something wrong.
ok i have 2 questions. 1. why does voldemort use the Lestrange vault to hide a horcrux when of the things that defines him is the fact that he dependent completely on himself, he is so dependent he doesn't even use the elixir of life.
2. How does Snape possibly convince voldemort he is loyal to him after Snape clearly decides that he with Dumbledore. In the first book he obviously against professor quierrel, he makes obvious attempts to thwart his attempt to get the sorcerer's stone. being that voldemort is sharing quierrels body, voldemort of course would have known this.
if anyone could answer that would awesome. thanks

I'll go ahead and answer that first question of quidditch hero's.

Gringotts is generally an extremely safe place. You know what you read going in there. Do you remember how hard it was for Hermione to get the horcrux out of their vault using polyjuice potion AND having a goblin to help? Yeah and then the enchantment that was on what was in the vault to make it multiply. That was so hard to get. He has those death eaters for a reason, to use them. He knew he could trust Bellatrix Lestrange. She is probably his most loyal servant, not to mention she's in love with him. Voldemort was smart to have so many followers. It's quite the possibility that he took power from the death eaters with the dark mark. Voldemort was one of the most powerful wizards to live. He had it down.

Since quidditch hero's first question has already been answered, I'll go ahead and answer the second one;

Snape explains this in HBP. In Chapter Two, Spinners End, Bellatrix asks him just that. Why did he stop Quirrel from procurring the sorcerer's stone? His answer was this, on page 28 of HBP;

QUOTE
"I think you next wanted to know," he pressed on, a little more loudly, for Bellatrix showed ever sign of interrupting, "why I stood between the Dark Lord and the Sorcerer's Stone. That is easily answered. He did not know whether he could trust me. He thought, like you, that I had turned from faithful Death Eater to Dumbledore's stooge. He was in a pitiable condition, very weak, sharing the body of a mediocre wizard. He did not dare reveal himself to a former ally if that ally might turn him over to Dumbledore or the Ministry. I deeply regret that he did not trust me. He would have returned to power three years sooner. As it was, I saw only greedy and unworthy Quirrell attempting to steal the stone, and I admit, I did all I could to thwart him."

If you have any other questions concerning how Snape convinced Voldemort that he was still a faithful DE, I think chapter 2 of HBP will be able to answer them.

Hope that helped,

Guys, nearly headless and the mandrake draught? If you remember in the story - and later clarified in the movie - the Basalisk strikes and Nick receives the full-blow "but he couldn't die again". The Basalisk by nature creates stone statues when an attack is only reflected and thus has the same effect on the ghost - it's not about the nature of physics, its just logic, Nick becomes more solid than he has ever been aftar the attack so, naturally, he is able to have a drink poured into his mouth!
Sister to the Dark Lord
Yes!

This spans from the entire series. OK, in GoF, during the Priori Incanatatum (sp?), the echos of Voldemort's murder victims are to appear in reverse order. James's echo appears before Lily's. So we think "OK, James died after Lily." But in Deathly Hallows, and from Dumbledore talking about how LV went from killing Lily to trying to kill Harry in PS, we know that it was James who died first, then Lily. So, if GoF was to make sense, it would be Lily Potter's echo that Harry sees first. But it's not. I find that so annoying, because it just doesn't add up correctly! It's like going 2 + 2 = 5, and even though you know it's wrong, it just won't come out as 4!

Ugh. It makes my head hurt.

Anyway, I think I can help the people wondering about Nearly-Headless Nick being Petrified in CoS:

We, as Muggles, believe that everything must be able to be solved by physics, as stated by Phoenix_ 13. But here, we are talking about the magical world, magical being the key word. Magic is, by nature, a force that is outside the range of science and logical thinking. Therefore, magic doesn't really have to make sense for it to work. It just does, and you'll get nowhere trying to explain it.

Does that satisfy your quiry, or did I miss the point entirely?

I don't know, Sister to the Dark Lord, I think that must have been a mistake on JKR's part to have James come out first. huh.gif That's all I can think of. Unless somehow, the "echoes" of Harry's parents were so strong that they didn't have to pay attention to the rules of Priori Incantatem? Or if it was somehow imperfect? I mean, the murders of James and Lily happened a long time ago. There was a big time gap between the murder of Cedric Diggory, the "restoring" of Wormtail's hand, and then the murders of the Potters. So maybe something about that time gap messed things up so James' echo came out first. That's all I can think of.

I don't know if this is only in the swdish ersion as I can only remember it from there, but it might be in the english version as well (too tired to check). Anyway, it says something like 'Hagrid was the kind of man you'd find raising werewolf cubs under his bed'. Clearly a mistake on Rowlings (or the translators) side (werewolfs are people, if Hagrid was raising them under his bed he'd be a total creep!), but mistakes like that bug me to death.

All in all HP is full of mistakes of that kind, but on the other hand HP is an entertainment book, and it takes a lot of re-reading to get every little thing right, and I simply don't belive JKR had that time.

Except the first book all other books have some "major" errors. These just irritate me because JKR usually plans many things right from the beginning like the bezoar thing.

Please tell if such inconsistency mistakes that you have found. These mistake just do not make any sense and just are glaring loopholes.

7. Snape was the Hogwarts headmaster when he died. Then I think his portrait should also
appear in the headmasters room. Also where was DD when Harry came into the Headmaster's room to see Snape's memories. Watching the battle from other portraits? biggrin.gif

Why doesn't Harry destroy the elder wand? mellow.gif

6. Malfoy using a curse against Harry when he is inside the cloak. mad.gif

5. Tonks using magic when they come to take away Harry. Just very wrong. mad.gif

How did the Death Eaters get their wands back?

4.
a.) The reason for Harry to win the Triwizard Tournament is not clearly explained. If Barty Crouch didn't send Harry right away to Voldemort because his sudden diaspperance would raise suspicions, this is not a solid reason. Because by then Voldemort would have risen again and Barty Crouch could have just disapparated outside Hogwarts. mad.gif

Maybe JKR should have told us that magical process by which Voldemort rises again should be done for one whole year etc., so Harry should be sent to him by the end of the year.

Also it doesn't explain how nobody would not notice if Harry disappeared in the maze and the tournament cup is missing. JKR should have put something like Barty Crouch had a fake
cup which he would place at the place of the original cup and everyone would think that Harry was torn to pieces by some creature in the maze(so also decoy clothes, eye glasses etc). mad.gif

b.) How can James come out before Lily during Priori Incantatem. I think JKR just did that to
because it would be nice if Harry's mother came out last. blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif

Also how did Voldemort's wand return to him? Maybe it was just at Godric's Hollow and then Wormtail got it.

3. The time turners. JKR should have put a small explanation like they can take you back in time only from the time you wear them or activate them, so you cannot go back anywhere in time. sad.gif sad.gif

2. The charm that Lockhart claimed that he used to convert a werewolf to a human. If it was such common knowledge then why DD or Snape etc., didn't notice this. Don't tell me DD was so careless. JKR should just made Lockhart say that he killed the werewolf. sleep.gif sleep.gif
