A Tale of Two Worlds.

‘He’s back. He’s back, Voldemort’s back.’ Harry cried over the cold, lifeless body of Cedric Diggory. He had just come back from a graveyard during his final Tri-Wizard Tournament challenge. Blank faces stared down at him, unable to believe what they were hearing.
‘He killed Cedric!’ Harry continued to cry, trying to make them all realise what was happening.

Harry was in a dark room, his Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher was sat before him, his face and body seemed to be morphing into a figure Harry had only ever seen in a memory. It was Barty Crouch Jr. The room began to fade away, becoming just another distant memory.

Dumbledore turned to Harry, pulling him into the shadows of the trees. They were on the outskirts of the Forbidden Forest, just behind Hagrid’s hut. The headmaster’s usually sparkling, hopeful blue eyes now had fear and anxiety etched into every last fleck of colour in them.
‘Harry, I have to ask you a huge favour, I hope that I can rely on you to do this for me, I feel terrible asking but I know that you are our only hope.’ His voice was riddled with concern and terror, cracking on the last few words.
‘Yes Professor, anything I can do to help you know I’ll do it.’
‘Harry, know this, what I ask of you is far worse than any Tri-Wizard challenge, far far worse than facing Voldemort in the graveyard. I must ask you to go into the forest and retrieve for me something of great importance.’ Harry nodded silently and slowly, unsure of what to expect next.
‘Could I ask sir, what is it that I must find?’
‘As you know, obviously, Lord Voldemort has returned but what you don’t know is that he has taken under his wing another accomplice, someone more capable, more able to help him to infiltrate Hogwarts and to use our resources to his advantages. That someone is Draco Malfoy. Yes Harry, Draco is under the service of Voldemort himself. I need you to go into the forest and fetch for me what Draco has hidden. His father’s cane, once just a normal stick of wood now holds what I believe to be some kind of elixir.’
‘Elixir?’ Harry raised his eyebrow, remembering the Philosopher’s Stone and the powerful elixir that it held within it.
‘Yes Harry. An elixir of both power and life. I believe that Voldemort plans to use this to...’ His whispered voice trailed off into the night as the wise headmaster lifted his head and began to look around wearily.
‘What is it Professor?’
‘Someone is coming. Harry we cannot continue this conversation tonight, I must ask you to meet me in the morning in my office. At first light I will be expecting you.’

Harry sat bolt upright in bed as the previous weeks memories began to fade away into the darkness of night.
‘Harry mate, you ok? You look terrible.’ Ron was stood next to Harry’s bed, a note in his hands.
‘Yeah, um just another nightmare again you know. What’s that?’
‘A note for you, Dumbledore asked me to deliver it.’
‘Oh no! The meeting’ Harry cried jumping out of bed and throwing on the nearest clothes. ‘Ron I have to go, I’ll tell you about it all later.’ He called as he ran out of the door and down the stairs that led to the common room.

‘I am so sorry I’m late sir, I must have overslept.’
‘But you’re here now and that is all that matters.’ Dumbledore said, pointing his wand at the door which immediately locked itself. ‘I can assure you what is said in this room will remain in this room, and I hope that you shall keep the same principle. You may inform Miss Granger and Mr Weasley as I am positive that you will require some assistance.’
‘Of course sir’ Harry said sitting in the chair opposite the headmaster’s desk.
‘As I was explaining last night Harry, Lucius Malfoy’s cane now resides deep within the forest, it holds within its core the elixir of power and life. I suspect you remember the Philosopher’s Stone and its qualities.’
‘This wouldn’t happen to be the same elixir would it Professor?’
‘Alas, Harry, I am afraid to say that the remaining elixir that Nicholas Flamel had kept in order to sort out his business before his death was untimely stolen just days after your rescue of the stone. I never told you this before because I never thought much of it. But now it seems that the elixir had been stolen by Lucius Malfoy and he intends to use it to bring about a new age of wizard. An age in which there will always be Lord Voldemort.’
‘What do you mean always? There’s enough to keep him alive forever?’ Dumbledore placed his head on his hands and nodded slowly.
‘You realise that we cannot have Voldemort live forever. This is why I must ask you to venture into the forest and retrieve that cane so that we can destroy it.’ A flash of anger swept through Dumbledore’s eyes.
‘Yes sir. That cane will be destroyed.’

‘Ron, Hermione! I have something I have to tell you!’ Harry shouted as he ran into the common room. ‘There you are! I really need your help.’
Harry sat down on the sofa’s next to the fire and explained to his friends everything that Dumbledore had told him about Draco, Lucius’ cane and the new age of wizard.
‘I always told you that Malfoy was no good.’ Ron spat, fury written across his face he stared straight into the fire as he rested his head on his clenched fist.
‘We’ll go tonight, we’ll use my dad’s cloak and we’ll go into the forest tonight and destroy that cane.’
‘It won’t be that easy though Harry, will it?’ Hermione asked cautiously. ‘I mean if Draco’s hidden it in the forest he won’t have left it completely unguarded, there’ll be traps and spells that we’ll have to get through.’
‘That’s where you’ll come in then. Dumbledore picked us for a reason. He knows that together we can get through anything, we have your smarts Hermione, your courage and skill Ron, and we have my luck.’ Harry stood up and began to walk towards the boy’s dormitory.
‘Where are you going?’
‘To get our things and then we’re going. It’s almost sunset, we’ll hide out at Hagrid’s hut and then once veiled by the dark we’ll enter the forest and we’ll look for the cane.’

‘You three best be careful now. I’ll keep a watch out for ya. If I see anyone comin’ then I’ll let ya know. Here, take this.’ Hagrid handed Harry a small, black box.
‘What is it Hagrid?’
‘It’s a secrecy box. If I see someone comin’ all I have to do is speak it into my box’ He held up a smaller white box. ‘And the message’ll appear in yours straight away. Now go, and be careful.’
‘We will Hagrid.’ Hermione said as Harry threw the invisibility cloak over all three of them before walking out of the door and into the forest.

‘Ouch Harry! That was my foot!’
‘Sorry Hermione. You know, this was so much easier back in first year.’
‘Tell me about it, I kinda wish I hadn’t had that growth spurt now’ Ron moaned, slouching more so that the cloak would cover their feet. ‘You know this is bloody uncomfortable.’
They carried on walking through the dark forest for a while. The path seemed to get narrower, the trees taller, and all the while the entire place got darker and darker. Harry took his wand out of his pocket and cast Lumos in order to give them some light so that they could find their way through the tangle of trees and bushes and undergrowth. They continued on, going deeper into the forest still finding nothing.
‘Where the hell is this bloody cane?’ Ron groaned.
‘Harry, I think we should face the fact that we’re lost.’
‘Shh’ Harry stopped to look around. ‘I heard something, like a branch breaking.’ The sound came again. The sound of footsteps on twigs, and it seemed to come from behind them. ‘Guys...’ Harry’s voce had dropped to a whisper now. ‘I don’t think we’re alone.’

‘What... Peter where are we?’ Claire Bennet asked looking round at her new surroundings.
‘I don’t know I didn’t bring us here.’ Peter Petrelli said wearily looking through the trees for any signs of evil.

‘No. I did. I need your help.’ Hiro Nakamura was stood near a tree that opened up to a clearing. ‘All of you, I need to ask for your help, it seems it is up to us to save the world. Again. Come this way.’ Hiro motioned for them to follow him into the clearing.
They sat in the middle of the clearing; Peter gathered up some branches and lit a fire just by using his own hand.

‘Who did you get that power off?’ Nathan, who was Peter’s older brother, asked, looking surprised.
‘A guy called Ted Sprague. He was the one who caused the whole exploding man thing. He had the power to emit radiation. Though I’ve learnt to control it now, I’m not dangerous anymore.’
‘Oh, I once knew a woman who had the ability of pyrokenesis. I thought it might have been her.’ Nathan cast a small glance at Claire, who gave him a knowing look in return for the woman was actually Claire’s birth mother, while Nathan was her birth father.

‘Okay, so I brought you all here for a reason’ Hiro announced rising from his seat. ‘Sylar is back and strong again. Some of you already know this, but others of you don’t. After our defeat of Adam we all just sat back and thought everything was over. But Sylar has his powers back properly now and he’s not exactly happy.’

Hiro looked around at everyone he had brought there. Claire, Peter and Nathan were all sat looking at the ground, their faces had concern written all over them. Claire had the ability to regenerate, meaning that ultimately she couldn’t die unless it was a direct hit to the brain. Nathan had the ability of flight and would be useful in battle, and then Peter had the greatest power of all. He had the ability to absorb other people’s powers, just by standing near them. They had been through so much both together and alone. Then there was Matt Parkman, who could read people’s minds as well as control their thoughts and actions. And finally Niki Sanders, a woman with super strength and also a super problem. She had multiple personalities, though Hiro believed that this could be used to their advantage during a battle with Sylar. Hiro continued to talk.

‘We were all there last time. If Sylar hadn’t have had help we would have defeated him once and for all. So we can do it again. We’re all stronger now, and together we’re stronger than him. We can do it. We can finally beat Sylar.’
‘Hiro? Just one question’ Matt asked, looking up. ‘Where the bloody hell are we?’
‘Umm’ Hiro looked around. ‘I don’t know really. I just know that this is where Sylar’s supposed to be, this is where Molly told us she’d be anyway.’
‘It’s where she told you he’d be. She didn’t say anything about it to me.’
‘That’s because I asked her not to. Anyway...’
‘Anyway I know why Sylar is here.’ Nathan interrupted standing up. ‘I told Hiro, and he brought us all here. I’ve been working with Bennet.’
‘You were working with my dad and you didn’t tell me?’ Claire said heatedly.
‘Claire, just... Not now. Anyway Bennet tells me that there’s some cane or something hidden in supposedly this forest, as this is where Molly told us Sylar was.’
‘Nathan, what’s this cane thing?’ Peter spoke quietly, raising his head slightly.
‘None of us really know. We just know that there’s supposed to be some power about it that will make Sylar pretty much indestructible and we all know that that can’t happen so we have to stop him.’

***

Harry, Ron and Hermione inched towards a clearing in the forest.
‘I told you I heard something, be quiet. It sounds like there’s people talking.’ They stopped by a tree just on the outside of the clearing, pulling the invisibility cloak further over them so that they wouldn’t be seen by any of the strange people sat on the floor of the clearing. A tall man was stood up talking to the rest of the group; he seemed to be the man in charge, or at least the one who was most in control.

‘Bennet tells me that there’s some cane or something hidden in supposedly this forest, as this is where Molly told us Sylar was.’
‘Nathan, what’s this cane thing?’ Another man with floppy black hair spoke quietly, raising his head slightly as he did so.
‘None of us really know. We just know that there’s supposed to be some power about it that will make Sylar pretty much indestructible and we all know that that can’t happen so we have to stop him.’
‘But Nathan, what if we can’t stop him?’ A woman with long blonde hair and a strange tattoo on her back spoke quietly and nervously.
‘We can.’ Said their leader, apparently called Nathan.

Harry pulled the invisibility cloak off of them all and walked into the clearing. The group of people on the floor all turned to look at him with shock.
‘I have no idea who you are but we know that you’re looking for a cane.’
‘Uhh yes.’ Nathan said looking questioningly at the trio.
‘Well so are we. I think we could help each other.’
‘Harry, what are you doing?’ Hermione grabbed Harry’s sleeve, pulling him back.
‘Just, go with me. They’re looking for the cane too. We can’t find it. I think we could use the help.’ Harry turned back towards Nathan. ‘So you say this Cyber guy is looking for the cane too?’
‘Sylar and yes he is. If it gets into his hands then the whole world is in danger. He cannot find that cane, it cannot get into his hands or else the whole world will be destroyed.’
‘Well you see we have a similar situation going on here.’ Harry told them all about Lord Voldemort and how the cane was a way to bring him back indefinitely. Nathan and the other Heroes then told Harry, Ron and Hermione about Sylar.

‘Well Nathan, it seems like we really can help each other. Now we just have to find the cane.’
‘What!!’ Matt shouted. Everyone turned to look at him while he continued to hit his phone against the ground. After realising he was being watched he looked up at all the confused faces staring down at him. ‘What? It’s not working.’
‘Well Matt, it is Matt right?’ Hermione asked. Matt nodded. ‘Well this Hogwarts, muggle electronics don’t work here because of all the magic and protection around this place.’
‘Magic?’ Matt looked up at the trio, scared. ‘Magic isn’t real.’
‘Matt you idiot, were you not listening to everything they just said?’ Peter asked with a sigh.
‘No. I was trying to fix my phone.’
‘Come on. We have two worlds to save now, not just one.’

‘I think I see something over here!’ Claire called to the rest of the group. They had split up to try and find the cane quicker. Ron and Claire had paired off together and headed towards another, smaller clearing. There was a small light escaping through the leaves of the trees surrounding it.
‘Guys I think we really have found something, it’s in here.’ Ron yelled. Pushing back some branches he stepped vigilantly into the clearing. ‘I found it!’

Harry and Peter who had been searching together rushed over to where Ron was.
‘So, this Voldemort, he’s powerful huh?’ Peter asked as they reached the clearing.
‘Powerful as in killed thousands of people, my parents included, was the most feared wizard of all, and managed to evade death and get his body back last year. Now he wants the elixir of life so that he will be all powerful forever.’
‘Oh.’ Peter gulped. ‘So, should be a cinch then.’ He exclaimed, laughing nervously. It was one thing to take on Sylar, who’s weaknesses he knew. But to take on one of the most powerful wizards ever was completely different. ‘I’m sorry about your parents though.’
‘It’s okay. In fact, if he hadn’t have killed them he would never have been pretty much defeated.’
‘By who?’
‘By me, when I was one year old.’ Harry pushed his hair back to show Peter his scar. ‘I’m the only person who has ever survived the killing curse.’
‘Well let’s hope you’re not the last. Hang on.’ Peter stopped in his tracks.
‘What is it?’
‘If I can regenerate, and so can Claire, can his killing curse thing kill us?’ Harry stopped to ponder this question.
‘We’ll have to see. But let’s just hope that your powers cans top him before we have to.’

‘Harry, Harry look we found it.’ Ron called; pointing to a long black cane with a serpent’s head on top. It had emerald green eyes and ruby fangs.
‘The elixir...’ Harry muttered under his breath. He had seen this cane so many times yet he had never understood it’s true power.
‘Hermione wait!’ Hiro called, grabbing Hermione’s arm before she could touch it. ‘It might be a trap.’
‘He’s right; we need to figure this out.’ Matt said.
‘Let me try something’ Harry stated. He stepped back and took his wand out again. ‘Accio.’ Nothing happened. He tried it again but still the cane didn’t budge.
‘Peter why don’t you try?’ Hermione said from the edge of the clearing. ‘Your powers aren’t like our magic, perhaps they might work against it.’
‘I’ll give it a try, but I’m not promising anyone.’ Peter raised his hand and concentrated all his energy on the cane. It began to shake.

‘It’s working! Come on Peter!’ Niki cried. The cane began to move towards Peter until it stopped in his hand. Peter grasped it and looked around at everyone.
‘I think you’ll be giving that to me now.’ Peter was hit with what seemed to be a ball of radioactive fire; he was thrown out of the clearing, still grasping the cane.
‘Sylar’ Claire gasped. Everyone turned to see a tall, mysterious looking man slinking into the clearing from the shadows.
‘I’ll be taking that cane now.’ Sylar had a mysterious, yet somewhat seductive voice. The type that could convince you to do anything he asked of you. It wasn’t going to work here though, Harry stood in his way defiantly.
‘I don’t think you will.’ He said angrily pointing his wand at Sylar.
‘And you’re going to stop me with a little twig?’ Sylar laughed.
‘No we all are.’ Ron said as he and Hermione joined Harry. ‘And they’re not twigs they’re wands.’

‘A wand, however, won’t be able to stop me.’ Another low, seductive voice came from the shadows. A tall, pale man in robes with a snake-like face emerged and stood besides Sylar.
‘Voldemort.’
‘Courage never fails you I see Harry Potter.’
‘No it doesn’t, because I’m not afraid of you.’
‘Perhaps you should be.’ Voldemort raised his own wand.

A huge lightning bolt came through the clearing as Peter walked back through the trees, the burns on his skin healing over rapidly.
‘You can’t beat us all again Sylar, even with your stupid side-kick.’
‘You think I’m a side-kick? You under estimate my power. Avada Kedavra.’ A flash of green light flew from the end of Voldemort’s wand and hit Peter square in the chest.
‘Pete! No!’ Nathan ran to his brother’s side, falling to his knees next to where the inert body of his brother lay. ‘What have you done?!’ He spat at Voldemort, who stood there laughing.
‘Is there any other fool here who thinks that they can stop me?’
‘Us...’ Sylar added
‘Yes.’ Hiro said, standing next to Nathan.
‘Yes.’ A chorus of ‘Yes’ came from everyone who stood in a line in front of Peter, some with wands raised, others ready with their powers.
‘Try and stop us. We’ll only get back up and stronger.’ Nathan said venomously.
‘We’ll do more than try’ Sylar spat.

Spells and powers flew all over the clearing. Nathan flew up into the air to get a better view; the mass carnage below was almost unbearable. Curses were flying every which way from the wizards. There were curses of all different colours, red, blue and green, just like the one that killed his brother. Then there were the Heroes. Niki was working her way through both Sylar and Voldemort with her super strength, Matt was able to not only predict what was about to happen, but was also able to use his power to move the fight in the direction he wanted to go in. Nathan was about to rejoin the fight when he saw something move in the middle of the clearing. At first he thought it might have been Peter but it couldn’t have been. Peter was dead. He flew down to see what it was. His face lit up with shock when he saw what it was.

‘You... You’re dead?’
‘Nope’ Peter stood up dusting himself off and looking down at a big burn through his shirt. ‘This was my favourite shirt as well.’ People all around them were looking in astonishment. ‘Hey Harry, I guess we saw.’
‘Yeah... I guess we did.’
‘Oh shut up and give me that cane now!’ Sylar screamed, charging towards Peter, who still held the cane in his hands.

‘I don’t think so!’ Sylar’s face collided with Niki’s fist and the loud crack could only mean that she’d broken his nose. ‘You say the only way to kill someone like us is to kill the brain right?’
‘It’s what Mohinder’s always told me yeah... but you’re not going to... are you?’
‘Mohinder knows most, I’ll take your word for it.’ And with that she twisted Sylar’s neck which broke and punched straight through his head, completely shattering his skull and destroying the brain.
‘One down...One to go’ She said rather calmly, looking at the dead body they’d all been long waiting for.

Everyone turned to look at Voldemort who stood laughing.
‘Do you think you can just do that to me? I’d like to see you try.’
Wands were once again raised and battle positions taken up. Curses flew and so did powers.
‘Peter! The cane!’ Harry called. 'Destroy the cane Peter! It's the only way!'

Peter look around at the fight surrounding him, at all the curses and powers flying over his head. Suddenly hit with an idea he raised the cane into the air.
‘Peter what are you doing?!’ Hiro yelled.
A flash of green light narrowly missed Peter’s hand. Nothing seemed to be hitting it. With a flash of light Peter’s hand was surrounded by a radioactive flame.
‘No! My cane!’ Voldemort’s eyes narrowed in horror at the sight.
‘You can’t live forever if you don’t have the elixir!’ Peter shouted as the fire in his hand burnt through the cane, reducing it and its contents to nothing but dust.
‘What have you done?!’ Voldemort hissed, raising his wand at Peter.
‘Didn’t work last time Voldy, what makes you think it will this time?’ Peter asked with a mocking tone in his voice. In less than a moment Voldemort disappeared, his last look was one of complete rage and fury.

Peter turned to look at the exhausted wizards and heroes surrounding him. His hand was still raised but the cane was gone, except for a pile of ash on the floor beneath his hand. Everyone sank to the floor, breathing heavily and looking around expecting to see fallen comrades.
‘We’re all here then?’ Peter said, a slight smile playing across his face.
‘Couldn’t have done it without you...’ Harry said pushing himself up of the floor. With one last look at everyone around him Harry turned to walk out of the clearing. He paused at the edge. ‘Thank you. All of you.’
‘No Harry, thank you.’

‘It’s done...’ Harry sat in Dumbledore’s office back up at the castle the next morning. ‘It’s destroyed, only just... but we did it.’
‘I cannot thank you enough Harry’
‘Don’t mention it. If I’m honest, we weren’t alone; we had help, help enough to save more than just one world last night.’
