Let's see...
I was born in Suffolk (the county time - and decimalization - forgot) in England. Yes, there is something in the South East apart from London. Admittedly not much, but...
My mum and dad were born in England; Tunbridge Wells and somewhere in Northamptonshire (I forget precisely where) respectively. My paternal grandparents and ancestors are all English, they've been traced back to about 1750 (when the church that holds the records was burnt down). My maternal grandmother was one of thirteen children all born in India; her father was a British soldier who married an Indian woman whom he met while he was serving there in the war. They emigrated to Britain in 1950.
There, what a nice story!
It's amazing to see all the different nationalities here.

It was a nice story!
I was born in Portsmouth, England (and am still here!

All 4 of my grandparents are/were from London
I have Irish, French and Swedish roots!

I've always lived in Canada, and same has my mother. My father was born in Canada but moved around to places like France, Belgium, Germany and England when he was a child because his father was in the army.
My great-grandparents on my mothers side (my mother's father's parents) came straight from Lebanon after the first world war, I believe. My grandmother on my mother's side was pure Scottish, which makes my mother half Lebanese and half Scottish.
I don't know as much about my father's side but that he's half Swedish and half Scottish.
That makes me half Scottish, a quarter Lebanese and a quarter Swedish!

I have a Swedish last name. It's fairly easy for a swedish name. I think it was translated when my ancestors moved to Canada. Still, no one can pronounce it.

Okay I have a handful to say so here goes.
My last name comes from the anglicized form of the Gaelic O Maoileoin. The 'O' signifies 'grandson or descendant of' while Maoileoin is derived from the Irish word maol meaning 'devotee or servant of' and Eoin which is the Irish form of John. Thus my surname can literally be translated as 'descendant of the devotee of St John'.As chiefs of Muiscrith Creithirne we are mentioned in a medieval topographical poem as follows: 'Muscraide of Crethirni, mighty men
Rightfully belongs to the race of Corc
O'
Malone* is powerful over the land
He possesses the country of smooth plains'
Bearers of my surname have played a prominent part in Irish public life.
BLAZON OF ARMS= Vert a lion rampant or between three mullets argent.
CREST=A man in armour, a pike in the right hand all proper.
MOTTO= Fidelis ad urnam
TRANSLATION= Faithful to death
ORIGIN=IrelandI am part scottish from my great-grandfather's side. But I am mostly Irish.

-my grandparents on my mother's side in the US
Thats all I know about which people were born where, but I do know that I have Irish, Swedish, Scottish, Turkish, Persian, and possibly something else...I guess I'm ingnorant when it comes down to my family history
About ten years ago, a distant cousin on my mom's side compiled a family tree (thats how she found out she was a distant cousin). Somehow I'm related to both ex-president Lyndon Johnson and Sir Francis Drake...I think Johnson was a cousin of my great grandfather, so he's a distant cousin then to me (I think), but Drake I have no idea about.

I have a French family name, so I may have a drop of French blood in me too, probably from the Huguenots who fled France in 1688/89. I love family history.

I just had a conversation with my parents about this the other day on St. Patrick's day when I mentioned Irish...
I'm born in the US, and still live here, but as far as ancestry goes
Mom's side--Dutch, German, English
Dad's side--Scottish, Irish, Welsh, English basically all of Great Britain really...
I think that's how it is...I might have my mom's side wrong, but it doesn't really matter on here. I would absolutely love to go to Great Britain. It's nice to know where you come from you know? None of my family lives outside our state, but we all started somewhere.

I've always been fascinated by ancestry and I've spent hours looking over my grandma's photos of our ancestors. Well, I was born in the the U.S and I still live there. My dad's mother's family came from Norway, and my dad's father's family, we think, came from Ireland. My mother's family is from England...as far back as we can possibly look all our ancestors, on her side, came from England. Yep, that's me...an English, Irish, Norwegian girl who was born in America

Hey, it's really fun reading everyone's ancestry. My familiy's is pretty cut and dry. My mom's side, Her father (my grandfather) came over from Italy. My Grandmother was Italian as well.
My father's side was Italian and Irish mix. Well, needless to say, we have a lot of Italian in our family. Irish too. It so happens I mariied a man who is mostly Italian.

He is also a pretty even mix of Irish as well. So...agian pretty boring. Italian/Irish.
But what is really interesting in that our family has kept records of our family tree. Along with photos, letters and deeds to lands. One person has it and passes it on to another "record Keeper" kind of like the family's Secretkeeper or something.

Interesting topic...
I'm Irish, but live in America, unfortunatley. I don't much like it here, and would love to move back to Ireland, or even to England, but have no idea where or how to begin that process.
My family dates back to the 13th century (on my fathers side), as I've been told, and we are part of the Luttrells. At one point, I'm told we had a town named after us, and possibly a county. There is a castle that bears our name, which is where the Beckhams were married.
As far as my mother's side is concerned, we know that she was born and raised there, as were all of her ancestors, but they were mostly farmers, and they suffered greatly in their pasts....
That's all I know...

Wow, Buckbeak! Nizhniy Novgorod looks like a magnificent city! I have never visited Russia, but I always have wanted to. I am sure I will sometime in my future. I have some lineage from Russia from my mom's side and....yeah, and I think my father's side as well. My maternal grandmother escaped from Russia with one of her sisters during the Holocaust and landed in America.
Vendifus, that's so cool! You are a descendent of a royal family!

Awesome....I have tried to trace my family as far back as I possibly could to find something cool like royalty, but all I found was normality. My father and I actually did a professional online family tree a few years back and traced our roots back quite a few generations...maybe the 1700s or so...I cannot remember exactly. I have also tried to use
EllisIsland.org to find when my great-grandparents and grandparents immigrated to America (because they all came through Ellis Island), but I suppose their names and surnames are so popular that there are multiple people with the same names!

Veneficus, you might want to start
here -- it's an Ireland immigration help site.
As far as I've heard, it is much easier to get into Ireland if you can prove your people came from there, and especially if the move away from Ireland was fairly recent. Good luck on that!

Felix Felicis 444, it was nice to read your message! I believe, everyone have some roots from far distant countries. Nowadays the world is a huge melting-pot.
NN is really quite a beautiful city because of its age and placement. It is situated on the banks of 2 (!) very big rivers. Their connection (dunno the correct expression) you can see in the 1st picture.
Pity, but I've never been to GB. London is my place of a lifetime... And I've always loved Australia and big Aus cities )))

I'm from Monterrey, Nuevo León, México...
I'm located, as you can easily know, in North America...
I have the fronteer with United States very near...
Also, I have the sea (beach) just some kilometers away...
Here is a difficult place when in weather it comes. In December can be from -5º C to 15º and in June can be from 30ºC to 47ºC...
Now, we're in the middle of a great cloudly sky, and that makes the humidity be very big, making the heat very very high...
Last Monday we were with 45ºC and a very strong sun...
Or in April we had loads of rain and we couldn't go out without an umbrella or something to be dry...

Today +18
Everseer
Apr 28 2006, 09:55 PM
Of course all about the temperature is really relative...
If I were living in Canada or Moscow, for example, I'd get adapted to the conditions of that place, and then I wouldn't feel cold (not as I feel here in Monterrey, I mean)...
But if I travel now to Moscow, I'd die of cold because I'm not adapted or prepared to that temperature...
But we must not get out form the real theme of the topic, so we must return to places and ancestry...
I forgot to mention, by the way, about my ancestry...
My father says that my great great great grandfather was from Spain, member of the court (sp?), or something of that sort...
And I have a friend of my same school with an ancestry almost the same, from Spain and the court (sp?). My grandfather (I won't say the 'great' anymore) was a Zurczyn and hers was Zarazúa...
Both with 'Z', not a common letter to begin names here...
Ever~

I know that I am Indian, but that's it. According to my mother I might have some English in me, but very little because she said that her great-grandmother might have been half English. But she doesn't know for sure.
Also, my last name is Singh (pronounced sing) . It is a Skih name. The only thing about it is that I am a Hindu. So somewhere in my Father's line they were Skih.

I was born in Kansas, and I still live here. My family is a mix of just about everything, but the biggest bloodlines are Irish, Native American, German, and English.
My dad's side is the one with German and English...he was born in Texas, though, so I'm sure we have some southern blood. My mom's side is Irish and Native American, so throughout our family, we have varying skin tones : white or tan.
Thankfully, I I was blessed with the Cherokee skin which is olivey colored. My great-great grandmother was full-blood Cherokee. I love my heritage.
