Just wondering if theres anybody out there who would use crucio, imperio or avada kadavra.
So, the question..
Could you ever see yourself using an unforgivable curse? If so why?

Good topic!
No I most definitely WOULD NOT!!! I can't bring myself to do that. Especially not AVada Kedavra. I wouldn't be able to live with myself after an Unforgivable Curse. I'd be incapable of doing Crucio becuase I don't mean it, no matter who!

Good lord no I couldn't see myself using an unforgivable curse. Thats just like murder only without finger prints.

I guess I was put in Slytherin for a reason and it was all for this thread.
Could you ever see yourself using an unforgivable curse? If so why?
Yes, I could see myself using an unforgivable curse. In times of war any means necessary for survival is thrown on the table for me. The other side would have no qualms doing any number of dark arts to ensure their truimph, therefore, similar action is sometimes required.
The Imperius Curse would be useful in a negotiation/hostage situation. Instead of risking your own body, using a captured enemy could be used to infiltrate the enemies ranks and gather information.
The Cruciatus Curse sounds like a very effect way to get information out of the enemy, but I wouldn't use it for mindless torture.
The Killing Curse is very risky business and I probably wouldn't use it unless absolutely necessary. If someone is trying to kill me, I really wouldn't hesitate to return the favor, if that's the only way I'm going to survive. I would do my best to take them down without having to Avada them, though, as corpses can't talk; but once their usefulness is up they wouldn't be breathing for much longer. I'm not going to waste my tax dollars keeping these low-lifes alive.

I must admit, as there are a few pointless and nasty people in life I don't think I would think twice about using Crucio if I was provoked, threaten at first but if they continued I would put a stop to it.
Please don't think I'm a vulgar person because of this opinion it's just one of my mottos "Treat other people who you would like to be treated." if they can't respect me, why should I respect them?

Could you ever see yourself using an unforgivable curse? If so why? I'm going to be totally honest here...
I could not use and unforgivable curse...UNLESS it was in self defense. If it's me or the other person...I AM going to defend myself. And that's NOT murder it's self defense. I'm not going to die at the hands of someone else if I have the means to protect myself.
Would I use and Unforgivable curse just because I feel like it (Like the death eaters) NEVER.

I guess there is a reason for all the curses. I would definitely use a curse if someone was about to kill me. I would also curse people that have done me wrong..

I would never be able to use Avada Kedavra! I could never live with myself knowing I had taken someone's life from them. I would just feel horrible!!
Also I could never use Crucio. Just torturing someone? No way, not for me. I, again, would feel so guilty I probably wouldn't be able to look at myself the same way ever again.
The imperius curse. That's tough because it's not really that bad unless you make the person do something bad. Like, as Harry used it in gringotts he used it because he needed to in order to destroy voldemort. If i was in a situation like that I would use it.

I posted my comment here before just in case anybody got the wrong idea, the only unforgivable I could ever use is Crucio, but you must know only in self defence, in my opinion pointless violence is disracefuland it really upsets me, but it's just interesting to see what other people have to say.

Could you ever see yourself using an unforgivable curse? If so why?Definitely! There's quite a few members I'd like to Crucio!

And I'd use the AK on Spammers, nuisance posters, members that just plain bug me...... Well I sort of can use the AK as a Mod. I can't delete their accounts but I can suspend them....which is just as good. Crucio could be considered our Moderator Preview. I don't really see the point in Imperio. Unless it worked on members and make them obey the Rules forever.

In real life I'd Crucio my middle sister, she needs it. I'm the eldest of three girls.....I'd Imperio my youngest sister. Make her do something constructive. There are a few people in the media who could use the AK curse against them......mostly the stupid people who are in charge of my country.

Ooo!!!! I'd love to Crucio the people who live above me! They have no respect for anyone else in the block. I'd like to teach them a lesson.
I'm not really a mean person.....just I can't stand people who are too stupid to follow rules, be courteous or just plain be nice!

I really wouldn't use any of these curses. I mean ones a torture curse, ones a control curse and one is a killing curse. Those really wouldnt be verbs you would associate with me. However, people who are rude and and quite frankly a little impatient tend to get on my nerves. So I'd probably imperio them. I too agree with
Triad, I can't stand people who are just plain mean!!!

I can definitely agree with Triad on using the Unforgivables on just plain mean and stupid people, ones that can't follow rules, ones that don't stay on topic, one's that abuse their power and spammers ! Goodness, spammers are such a huge annoyance.
Earlier today I had the thought, man I'd love to Imperius such and such for doing this and doing that. I decided I'd be kind instead. I'd like to Imperio members of my house to start chatting in the Slytherin thread again, it sure is hard to keep a thread going on topic when there's no one to talk to but myself !
I guess I wouldn't need war to make me use these curses, if I just felt like being vindictive I'd use them on anyone when I'm in a bad mood.

I can see myself using imperio on like a daily basis, to get people to stop being such idiots or bugging me, or to get me stuff I wanted. I have a temper too, so I'd probably end up using crucio on occasion.
I don't think I'd just walk around using Avada Kedavra often, but there's been a few times I've been tempted to try it.

The only one I could EVER see myself using, and I think it would be only in the most extreme of circumstances, is the Imperius Curse. And it would probably be like for self-defense, so if someone was trying to rob or kill me, I could make them not do it and go turn themselves in or something. I could never cause someone as much pain as the Cruciatus Curse would give them, and I could never use the Killing Curse on anyone, no matter how deserving they might be. I just don't think I could ever hurt or kill someone that way. At least with the Imperius Curse, it in itself is not necessarily bad, depending on what purpose you use it for. But I still wouldn't use it for any old occasion~I would have to be in dire straits to actually say "Imperio!"

Aug 28 2008, 01:27 AM
I would try and avoid killing or torturing someone. If a loved one was in danger, i would try and incapacitate without causing a great deal of pain. But if that wasn't possible i might try, but i wouldn't kill.
The Imperius curse actually sounds quite fun!

I would only use it in moderation and i wouldn't make people do scary stuff, but just messing around would be alright...wouldn't it?

You bet I could! Not that it would make me happy, and I don't expect most of you to understand. But there have been times in my life when someone has "messed" with my hubby, or especially, with my kids, that had I been able to I'd have hollered, "Crucio!" in a New York minute!!
The Imperius Curse I would have no use for and I cannot imagine myself using the Avada Kedavra.

I don't think I could ever bring myself to use one of these spells, because they are so terrible. Besides, they land you in Azkaban, which is probably the worst place on Earth. I would especially not use Avada Kedavra because I really hate death. A lot

Great topic, I like it!
Could I ever use an unforgivable... I've never really thought about it, but we have been discussing a related topic in English while analysing a novel. The question was, could you ever kill someone, even in war? Outside of war, in an everyday situation, I don't think I could. It would scar me for life, knowing I had willingly caused someone pain. Even something like te cruciatus curse. I would be tempted, my goodness yes, but I don't think I could in normal circumstances.
But war is a different circumstance. As someone mentioned earlier, I can't remember who, during war, all the rules are thrown out, and the situation is basically kill or be killed. In that situation, if someone was about to kill me, or worse, someone I loved, and I had no otehr option, I think I would. But I'd hate myself afterwards. In that respect, I'm very glad I'm not a witch,I don't think I could handle havig that much power available to me.
I must say though, that Imperius curse would come in handy... "Don't give me detention, I wasn't reading during maths at all...that's right, go back to your desk...."

I could probally never use one of the curses. Its just not me. But if it was like a Terrest was about to blow up the white house and places around it. I would use Avada Kadavra on him/her it would be hard but think about it one person dieing or The president dieing and a peice of historical building to go down. Plus the maids and guards would die in the building woth it.

I don't think I could. I mean, I'm not perfect. I do little things like lie and fake sick to get out of school (which is sort of a form of lying... but hey). But I care a lot about people, and I have a big guilt capacity. Even if it was life or death for me, I just don't think I could bring myself to do it.

Hi.
The only situation i can think
of in which i could use
an unforgivable curse,
is if someone was trying to hurt my
family/nuclear family
.It would be the imperious
curse only, just to make whoever was trying to
hurt them leave them alone. The other
one's just appear to be too horrible
.
hope everyone has a nice day

Loony'sCool, I don't agree with you that a president's life is worth more than someone else's, even if the person is a terrorist. I mean, when it comes to having to stop someone from killing more people, generally it is accepted to kill (though I still don't believe they have a right to take someone's life), but to weigh two people to decide which deserves to live, in my opinion, is wrong. Both do. And there almost always is a way to stop attackers without killing.
No, I wouldn't use an Unforgivable. I mean, just think about what these actually are! Taking someone's will and consciousness? Depriving them of their senses? Health? THEIR LIFE?
How much hatred does it take to use them? (especially the last two) I think that, since this is complicated magic, you can't just act on an impulse, you have to really mean it - that's why Harry couln't use the Cruciatus Curse the first time he tried.
Maybe I would imperio someone if there really was no other way of solving something, for, I don't know, some big cause, probably in war or a war-like situation. The others are something else.

I actually think I could...maybe.
I can become detached and aggressive when need be, when I feel fear it becomes a stimulant sort of and my mind begins to work twice as fast.
It's like the research that says that in an incident like a car accident people say everything goes into slow motion. It's not, it's just your brain responding to this moment of pure panic by working faster.
But all I know is that I probably could...and I imagine it would affect you physically...like all this energy is sucked out of you perhaps. Anyway I would trust myself to use an unforgivable curse only in a situation where it would prevent harm to innocent...I trust myself that much at least.

Yes I beleived the same thing before I really thought about it. If a terrest did kill the president. The terrests would think wow we killed the president! THen they would think they could do much more and worse. So they would start trying to blow up our monuments and stuff. It would be chaos.

I think I could, but only as needed, like how Harry used Imperio in Gringotts. I think the Imperious curse is only as bad as what you make the person do. I could never use Crucio just to torture people. I can't think of a situation where I would use it, but you never know. . .I never thought Harry would use it, but he did in DH and I wasn't upset about it.
Avada Kedavra, I don't know, maybe in self defense if the other person was aiming to kill, but I would try to use any means possible before that, such as stunning the person to give myself time to get away.
I would never want to torture anyone or take their life away from them, but in war desperate times call for desperate measures.

If it was guarenteed I wouldn't get caught, I would, most definately.
I'd probably take AK lightly, or even not use it, because that's a big one, but the others i'd have no qualms about.

I don't see a reason to use Imperio, and I could never EVER get myself to use Avada Kedavra. But I think that if something, or someone was threatening people precious to me, I believe I could get myself to use Crucio. But I think that would have to be it. I may seem like a big old softy, But as a true Hufflepuff, I really think that if poor Cedric had had any idea what he was really up against, that he would have had no problem using it. He was on a serious turn to protect Harry and Himself, he just didn't know he was up against something a lot more powerful and unfeeling them himself.

I would use Cruciatus and Imperio if I need to defend myself, otherwise no, when I think what I can provoke. About the Avada Kedavra, only if I would be in a life and death situation and the person in front of me is really bad.

The only way I could use an Unforgivable Curse is if someone is messing with me, my mom, or any of my family or friend! The only one I could see myself using however is "crucio". But I would only use it just enough to get my point across.......my point being.......mess with this person again and see what happens. There were many times in school where someone was really picking on me.....I always wished I was a witch.....if for nothing else make myself disappear!

I would possibly use crucio on someone like Bellatrix or Umbridge. I would only consider using avada kedavra on Voldemort.
Imperio would be fun but I don't know what I would use it for.

Ah unforgivable curses, real sensitive topic, eh?
Avada kedavra I would never use. Just because I don't think I have the right to take a human life. Even as means of self defense I for sure wouldn't do it. If you're capable of performing the killing curse then you can definitely perform petrificus totalus. Plus, if you're in a situation where you need to use self defense, the person needs to be put on trial for what they did.
(This is off topic, but can someone answer a question I have about petrifying? In CoC a mandrake potion is used to revive who was petrified by the basilisk. Wasn't Neville petrified by Hermione in the first book when he tried to keep them from leaving the common room? Is a mandrake potion always required to revive petrified victims or is it just when they're petrified by a basilisk? Or I'm wrong and Neville was stupified. That's all a blur to me.)
BACK TO THE TOPIC
The imperius curse, I wouldn't really want to use that. It just doesn't appeal to me. I'd feel so bad about controlling someones mind. That just isn't for me because not to mention I think I would be terrible at it.
Now the cruciatus curse. I think there could be a situaton where I would use it. Definitely not like what was done to Neville's parents. Also, for sure not like death eaters and doing it just for fun/entertainment. I'm almost positive there is a situation where a tad bit of torture is called for. Kinda like beating someone up, ya know? Not that I think it's cool to go around beating people up, but I think you get the point. The cruciatus curse it just has so much cruelty associated with it. I guess because it is cruel, but ah I don't know. It just doesn't seem as bad as people make it out to be to me when it's not used to torture people to the brink of sanity.

Could I use them? No, no I couldn't. Not unless it was Avada Kedavra on Umbridge or an insect. *shudder*
Would I use them? Depends. If somebody I love/my life was in danger, without hesitation. For fun, like the Death Eaters, no. I am way too compassionate and empathetic to kill/maim/controll someone because I'm bored. Nuh-uh, no way, no how.
acidpop: Hermione didn't Petrify or Stun Neville, she used the Full Body Bind spell. Only an indirect gaze from a Basilisk can Petrify. And only a mandrake restoritive potion can reverse the pertification, while a Full Body Bind only needs a countercurse.
Hope that clears it up for you.

The only Unforgivable Curse that I would use is Imperio. Never Crucio or Avada. I might be in Slytherin, but I'm not that evil.
Even if I did use Crucio, I wouldn't even mean it, so it wouldn't inflect any actual pain. And the only person I could ever kill would be Umbridge or someone of that nature.
