Chapter One
The Hogwarts Express

Albus Potter Stepped up onto the stairs leading into the train. He had been waiting for this for some time now, but now that he was actually here, on the train, he began to feel unsettled. He didn't really wan't to be there anymore.
Ginny came running up to give him one last kiss.
"Mum, you don't need to kiss me again, do you?" Albus looked around. He didn't want any one to see his mom kissing him. That surely would make all the kids want to laugh at him.
But then again, he wouldn't be seeing her until Christmas, so he gave her a quick squeeze and stumped up the steps into the train.
"Come on Rose!" Albus called.
Rose climbed up the steps after Albus, heaving her trunk up them.
The train started to move, and Albus stuck his head out of an open window.
"Bye dad!" Albus said.
" Yeah, bye dad!" Rose appeared beside Albus in the window.
" See you, Rose." Ron and Hermione called.
Harry smiled up at Albus. "Love you."
"Me too." Ginny said.
"See ya."
On the train, Rose and Albus found an empty compartment.
They stuffed their trunks into the bin and sat down uncomfortably.
"So... I hope I get put in Gryffindore. Ravenclaw wouldn't be bad, but I always will prefer Gryffindore." Albus said quickly. "And you? The same I suppose?"
"Yeah."Rose said shortly. She seemed really nervous.
"I'm nervous too." Albus said.
"I-I'm not nervous." Rose whispered raising her eyebrows.
"Oh really?" Albus grinned.
Rose's lips were quivering like she was trying to hold in a smile. "I'm- WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT?"
For Albus had just seen a pair of dark eyes and short blonde hair.
"Someone's outside" Albus said.
Scorpius Malfoy stood up against the wall between two compartments.
"Th-theres no where else to sit." Scorpius said loudly.
"You can come in if you like. We have room." Albus said.
Scorpius looked questioningly at Albus, then marched past him into the compartment.
Once Albus sat back down, it was creepily quiet for a very long time.

The lunch trolley came by around noon.
"Anything for you, my sweet?" She asked Albus.
"Well my dad gave me some money." He told Rose.
He stepped out of the compartment to see what the trolley had.
"I'll take three pumpkin pasties, five chocolate frogs and one Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans." Albus said kindly.
With his hands full he stepped back into the compartment and shut the door.
"I left my money with my parents" Scorpius whispered. His face grew red.
"That's okay. That's why i got three pumpkin pasties." Albus said kindly.
Scorpius looked up as Albus tossed him two chocolate frogs and a pumpkin pastie.
"Thanks." He said quietly. He smiled awkwardly.
"I'm Albus Potter and this is Rose Weasly." Albus stuck out his hand.

When the train slowed at Hogsmead station, Albus's stomach did a back flop. What if he wasn't put in Gryffindor? What if Rose was put into a different house than he? What if nobody wanted to be his friend?
"Come on." Rose nudged him forward.
"You know, Rose, I'm just not up to going up to the castle today. Maybe I can see you tomorrow. I bet Hagrid could keep me for the night. That way I can get sorted by myself in the morning." Albus said.
"Don't be such a baby." Rose told him as she shoved him to get him to move again.
"At least I admitted I am nervous. You lie and say that you're not scared of anything. You know someday, that's gonna backfire." Albus said knowingly, nodding his head at her.
"I bet you're right" Rose said rolling her eyes.
Scorpius followed closely behind tripping over the cloaks of other students.
"Firs' years o'er here! Firs' years!" Called a man that was at least twice a normal man's height. He had a giant belly and small, crinkled, black eyes. His hair was wild and graying.
Someone ran into Albus as he tried to push his way toward the large man. Albus turned and saw James, his brother, smiling broadly at him.
"Good luck in the sorting." He said. And with a snicker disappeared once again into the crowd.
Albus, Rose, and Scorpius tripped over a few more robes before they reached the huge man.
"Hello." Albus said to the tall man.
"Hi." He said without looking down.
"It's Albus." Albus said
Hagrid looked down in surprise. "I haven’t seen ye since las' summer when I came t' visit ye. Good ter see ye." Hagrid kept talking. "I remember when yer father firs' got off that train. Small guy. But now o' course, he's all grown up. How's he doin'?"
"He's doing fine. He helps out at Uncle Ron's and Uncle George's shop. He also helps out at the ministry, working for Kingsley. I don't know what he does there though." Albus said.
"How'er Ron n' George?" Hagrid asked.
"Really good." Rose answered. "Uncle George freaks people out by the hole in the side of his head. But every Halloween, it comes in handy. My dad just invented something for the shop. Talking tootsies. They're tootsie rolls and every time someone tries to eat them, they say something rude. It's quite funny."
Hagrid chuckled. "Now, who's this?" He looked down at Scorpius.
"Scorpius Malfoy" Scorpius said quietly.
"Oh." Hagrid’s smile faded a little.
"It's all right Hagrid. He's our friend."
"Righ'" He said standing up tall. "Firs years! This way!"
Hagrid started walking away towards a giant black lake. Rose, Scorpius, and Albus all followed him.
At the edge of the lake were a bunch of boats that could fit three or four.
Scorpius, Rose, and Albus got into one boat together.
A small girl filed in after Rose. "Would it be okay if I sat here?" She asked.
"Sure." Rose said. "I'm Rose."
The small girl put her hand out. "Quella."
As the boats started to move, Albus erased all his fears. He met Scorpius, and was now his friend, and he met Quella. Surely, he'd meet other people.

Chapter Two
The Sorting

When Albus reached the great oak doors of Hogwarts, he found himself too exited and nervous to just stand around. But they had to wait for Hagrid to open the doors to the warmth of the inside.
Albus looked around, shivering slightly, as the wind was billowing around him. All the first years tried to huddle in the center of the circle people were creating, but because everybody was in the middle, who was supposed to be outside, getting the full blast of wind?
Hagrid came stomping by Rose and Albus, not trying to steer away from Scorpius. Hagrids huge coat swung and hit Scorpius full in the face.
As Hagrid opened the doors, Albus heard Scorpius tell him, "That man had a coconut in his pocket. It smacked me in the face. And I liked coconuts."
Albus let out a small chuckle. "Hagrid doesn't grow coconuts so why would he have one in his pocket? It was probably something he is going to show us in our magical creatures lessons."
Scorpius rubbed his cheek. Albus laughed a little harder.
"Welcome ter Hogwarts" Hagrid said to all the first years. "Come in, bu' be quie'"
He directed all the first years in to the entrance hall.
A man with a round face came out of the great hall. He was tall and had wavy, dark brown hair and brown eyes. His sleeves were rolled up to elbow length and he had a pair of kakis on.
“Hey, Neville!” Albus whispered.
Neville looked over at him and waved. He looked like he was sweating.
“Why are you sweating?” Albus asked.
“No reason. Just a bit nervous. I always get nervous at the beginning of the year. I don’t know what the new kids are going to be like. But you look like a good bunch.” Neville replied.
Hagrid turned towards the first years. “All righ’ you all.” He said looking around at us. “Professor Longbottom here’s gonna take you into the great hall. Stay in a line now.”
Everyone hurried to get in a line.
“Everyone this way.” Neville said, and marched towards the doors leading to a delicious dinner waiting for them all.
He pushed open the doors and everyone suddenly got quiet.
“They’ve changed it up a bit. The sorting I mean.” Neville whispered to Albus. “There’s no stool. You get the hat put on your head and then walk to the other side of the hall, not to your table. Once everyone’s sorted you go as a group to the table while people applaud. This way it takes a shorter amount of time.”
A woman stood up. She walked the sorting hat over to Neville and sat back down. Her hair was in a tight bun. And it was all silvery. She wore a long pointed witch’s hat on top of her head, and long sweeping robes.
Albus snapped his attention back to Neville as he read from a list of, apparently, names of first years.
“Beridge, Emily.” He called.
A fairly large girl stepped up to get the hat put on her head. She had a double chin which made Albus gag.
“Hufflepuff!” The sorting hat shouted.
“Daniels, Quella.”
“Gryffindor!” The hat yelled.
And after Dribb, Ella was put into Ravenclaw, and Humphrise, Michael was put into Slytherin, and after Iguoitis, Perry, was put into Ravenclaw, Scorpius was called.
Of course he would be put into Slytherin, as the rest of his family had, but Albus couldn’t help feeling a little bit disappointed as his new friend would now be departing.
But the most miraculous thing happened. When Scorpius put the hat on his head it thought it over for a while.
“Gryffindore!” The hat shouted.
Albus looked around at Rose. She looked puzzled.
“That’s never happened before.” She said
Scorpius grinned at Albus for he knew that they were going to be put in the same house.
Albus stood there, his mouth slightly open. Never, has there been someone from a family of pureblood Slytherins that was put in a different house. Even if the family wasn’t Slytherin, it’s really rare for anyone in that family to be in a different house. Except for Sirius Black of course.
After Scorpius, Noonan, Grant was put into Slytherin. Then Nille, Veronica was put into Hufflepuff.
It was Albus’s turn.
He made his way up to Neville, who put the hat on his head.
Albus’s heart beat very fast. All of his fears came back. What if I’m not in Gryffindor? Then Scorpius and I can’t be friends. He thought.
He closed his eyes. Any moment now, he’d know his fate.
“Gryffindor!” The hat shouted.
Albus sighed and smiled at Scorpius.
He ran towards the Gryffindor group.
“Amazing huh? How I got put in Gryffindor, I don’t know. Dad’s not going to be too pleased.” Scorpius whispered.
Quella came up behind Albus and quietly said, “Congratulations.”
“Thanks” Albus said.
“Rane, Tyler.” Neville called.
A boy stepped up to Neville. He put the hat on.
The boy’s face turned beat red. He looked as if he were choking on something. After about ten minutes, he was put into Hufflepuff and his face was considerably less red.
Two girls got put into Slytherin before Rose was up.
Rose was shaking. She hadn’t been this nervous before.
“Gryffindor!” It shouted.
Relieved, she ran straight at Albus.
“That was so scary.”
Four boys and a girl were put into Ravenclaw, and another three boys were sent to Hufflepuff. Two boys and three girls went to Gryffindor, and three girls went to Slytherin.
He didn't pay attention after that, and what seemed like minutes later, the groups went to sit at their tables.
When Albus sat down, James came to sit with him.
“See, it wasn’t so hard was it?” He asked.
“I guess not.”Albus replied. “Now be quiet so I can eat in peace.”
Albus took a large amount of everything, from chicken wings to something that looked like thick soup, (which Albus of course had no idea what it was).
“Man, I like dinner here.” Rose said aloud.
Scorpius was stuffing everything he could see into his mouth.
“So, this is a Malfoy?” James asked, pointing at Scorpius.
“Yeah, an’ ‘es ‘y fr’nd.” Albus said.
“What?”
Albus gulped down the piece of chicken he was devouring. “Yeah, and he’s my friend.”
“Your friends with a Malfoy?” James asked. “Wait till dad hears.”
“Dad won’t mind. Just because he wasn’t friends with Scorpius’ dad doesn’t mean I can’t be friends with Scorpius.” Albus said. “He’s nice. We shared a compartment on the train.”
“Woo-hoo.” James said sarcastically.
“Be quiet.”
“So Scorpius, how is it sitting at the Gryffindor table?” James asked.
“I don’t know. I havn’t sat at any other table.”
“Leave him alone, James.” Albus said, rolling his eyes.
“Did you think you’d be eating at the Gryffindor table?” James questioned Scorpius again.
Albus didn’t listen to any more of James’s questions. Instead, he thought about the warm bed that he’d be sleeping in that night.

Chapter Three
Veelor and Hanser

“Get UP!” Scorpius shouted. A very hard and lumpy pillow made contact with Albus’s face.
“Wuzz’ ‘e time?” Albus asked lazily.
“Time for breakfast. We’ve got about fifteen minutes to eat and get to class.”
Albus got up and shuffled around the bed to his trunk. He pulled on a shirt and pants, before his robes.
“Let’s go.” He mumbled
Looking at the two empty beds, he wondered who his bunk mates were. He had been too hungry to care who the sorting hat had put in Gryffindor, but now he wanted to know their names. He’d have time to meet them later though, as he was bound to be late for class.
Scorpius moved Albus across the common room to the portrait of, not the Fat Lady, but what was now a picture of Godric Gryffindor.
Down the steps they moved. Albus was so tired that he didn’t know how long he had been walking, and almost thirty seconds later ended up in the Great Hall.
Scorpius dragged Albus toward the Gryffindor table. When he bent over to pick up some toast, a boy with dirty blonde hair leaned in toward the table, his hand outstretched.
“I’m Matthew Yheat. I’m a first year too.” He said.
“Scorpius Malfoy.” Scorpius shook his hand. “This is Albus Potter. He’s a little sleepy.”
Matthew looked over at Albus. “Your dad’s really Harry Potter?”
“Yup” Albus said, his eyes drooping.
He couldn’t get to sleep last night. He was too busy thinking about his school year at Hogwarts. Who his teachers might be, who he’d meet. It all seemed great to him, even the lessons. But now, Albus thought, I really would like to go to bed instead of my lessons.
“Come on.” Scorpius muttered. “I got us some toast.”
As they went back out of the Great Hall, a small girl ran into Albus.
Albus recognized the short brown hair. It was Quella. She was cradling something small and round in her arms.
“Hi. Gotta go.” Quella said as she made her way towards the great oak doors leading to the forest.
Albus followed steadily behind Scorpius. He had no idea which class they were going to. They stopped in front of a classroom where a few other kids had lined up already.
“What class are we in right now?” Albus asked sleepily.
“Transfiguration. I don’t know who the teacher is, but it’s not McGonagall, because she’s headmaster now.”
“How do you know who McGonagall is?” Albus questioned.
“My dad and your dad had her in transfiguration.”
“Right, right.”
Man in short maroon robes came sweeping by.
“Hello. Sorry I’m late. I had a bit of trouble with my robes this morning. Oh, I’m Professor Veelor. I will be teaching transfiguration, if you are someone that is too lazy to see what class is first.”
Albus felt cold air against his hand and next thing he knew, Rose was panting beside him.
“Did I miss anything?” She asked.
“Nope.” Albus said lazily. They started filing into the room. “Where were you?”
“Quella was gone when I woke up, she had obviously left early. So I went back to sleep, and the other three girls in my dorm didn’t bother to wake me up.”
Albus, Scorpius, and Rose took seats at the front.
“Alright.” Professor Veelor started. “Today I just want to get to know you all a little better. Later, I’ll be asking you questions, but for right now, you can ask me any thing you want.”
A boy with long black hair raised his hand, grinning.
“Yes.” Professor Veelor said. “What’s your name?”
“Nathan Ziegler. Why are your robes so short?”
Professor Veelor let out a high pitched shriek-laugh, which woke Albus up, and then laughed nervously.
“I brought them to Ms. Whille to wash, and she told me she had done a spell to make them always smell good, but they shrunk instead. I just got them back before class.” He said quickly.
“Who’s Ms. Whille?” Albus whispered to Scorpius.
“The new caretaker. I heard Filch, the old care taker, retired last year to enjoy his remaining life with his six cats.”
“Filch only had one cat.”
“In the years since our dad’s left school, he collected supposed “evil cats” which belonged to students. Of course he claimed that the students gave the cats to him, but I think he’s full of it.”
“Mmm.” Albus grunted.
“Any more questions?” Professor Veelor asked.
No one raised their hands.
“Okay, well then, I’ll just pass out my little quizzes for you.”
When he passed out the tests, Albus looked down at it. Here’s the quiz:
1. What kind of pet do you have?
2. What is your pet’s name?
3. What color is it?
4. How many letters are in your name?
5. What kind of wand do you have?
6. How much do you like me?
Albus thought the quiz was odd, but went ahead and answered the questions any way. Here’s Albus’ completed quiz:
1. Don’t have one.
2. ?
3. ?
4. 11
5. Elk and Dragon heartstring
6. …
He went up to the front of the class to hand in the quiz.
“Thank you.” Professor Veelor said.
Albus waited for the rest of the class to hand in their quizzes.
“Now I’m going to ask you all what your names are, and what house you are from.” Professor Veelor said. “Start with you.” He pointed at a girl with curly red-brown hair.
“June Voila, Gryffindor.” Her face turned pink.
And down the line it went.
“Emma Thompson, Gryffindor.”
“Penny Swane, Slytherin.” Penny giggled to herself after telling her name.
“Matthew Yheat, Gryffindor.”
“Albus Potter, Gryffindor.”
“Scorpius Malfoy, Gryffindor.”
At Scorpius’ name, many Slytherins turned to glare at him. It seemed as if they were mad that he hadn’t been put into Slytherin.
“Rose Weasley, Gryffindor.”
“John Valgue, Slytherin.”
“Grant Noonan, Slytherin.”
“Michael Humphrise, Slytherin.”
“Mark Xave, Slytherin.”
“Brett Travers, Slytherin.”
“Rain Zuaran, Slytherin.”
“Lauren Wolcott, Slytherin.”
“Olivia Youle, Slytherin.”
“Quella Daniels, Gryffindor.” Quella said distractedly. She kept looking down into her lap.
“Violet Whitmore, Gryffindor.”
“Nathan Ziegler, Gryffindor.”
“Mary Tousan, Slytherin.”
“Very good.” Professor Veelor said. “You see, I can remember anything. So…” Mr. Veelor paused, “Ms. June Voila from Gryffindor, come here please.”
Very slowly, the curly-haired girl at the end of the row got up and went to Prof. Veelor.
“Could you possibly run this down to Professor McGonagall?” He handed June a piece of parchment that was folded in fours. “Don’t bother peeking at what it says; I put a spell on it so only Prof. McGonagall can read it.”
And June hurried out of the class room toward Prof. McGonagall’s office.
Professor Veelor turned back to the class, smiling and flashing his eyes.
“Now let’s begin, shall we?”
Veelor brought out a red handkerchief.
“I just wanted to show you a talent I have.”
He blew on the kerchief, and it disappeared. Albus looked around for it. It was hanging inside a curtain. Albus rolled his eyes and put his head on his desk. This was going to be a long day.

Later that afternoon, Albus and Rose sat down in the Defense against the dark arts classroom.
“Where’s Scorpius?” Rose asked.
“Bathroom.” Albus said lazily.
A woman with long, wavy, graying brown hair came sweeping down the steps from her office.
“Good afternoon, students.” She said, smiling sweetly. “I am Golde Hanser. Professor Hanser to you all.”
She looked around at all of the students. Then she went up to the board and wrote Professor Hanser on it.
“There. So now you all now how to spell it. Today, I will show you a creature that has been believed to be extinct for many years, but I, myself, have found one on the school grounds. It digs holes in soft earth and buries themselves there until the next day, and then it is time to move on to build another hole. If you find one, they are likely to die within the day that you are keeping them, if you don’t know how to treat them. I have mine in a large box filled with dirt. But they are highly dangerous, as when they touch water, they turn into wild beasts not unlike sharks, and can rip body parts off, and possibly kill someone, if in a bad rage. Once they are in the water, they can always come out, but only if they have calmed down to the point where they know what they really are. They are called buoyfflers.
“The only way to deal with them is to feed them raisins. The buoyfflers have some kind of body malfunction when eating raisins. It makes them transform back to a bouyffler, from the shark-like thing that it is in water. Do not feed them raisins when they are outside of water, it will kill them, and they do not hurt you out of water.”
She pointed her wand at a large glass box in the back of the room. It came shooting toward her, slowed down, and set itself on the table. Inside was a bunch of dirt and Albus could see a purple nose pressed against the glass. It opened it’s eyes and with a little squeal, it emerged from the dirt.
It had a large head, but a very tiny body was attached. It was about the size of football. It looked like a duck out of proportion. The bouyffler’s whole body was purple fuzz.
For the rest of the lesson, Albus, and the rest of the class practiced conjuring raisons out of thin air, to feed the bouyffler that Professor Hanser put into water.
In the water, it looked like a green scaled barracuda but in miniature size. It would lash out at someone if they tried to drop a raison in, but then he ate it, and the purple fuzz would grow back. It tried to climb up the side of the tank but then fall in again, and turn back into a green barracuda.
It was very enjoyable in Albus’ opinion. The bouyfflers were very cute, and Albus would have liked to have one as a pet. Albus set his head on his desk for the second time that day and watched the students feeding the bouyffler, and it turning back into a purple fuzz ball.

Chapter Four
The Marauders and Mona
“They were so cute!” Rose exclaimed as they walked toward the common room.
“Yeah.” Albus said uninterestedly. He was still tired from last night. “You know, Defense Against the Dark Arts was three hours ago.”
They winded their way between the other students in the hall, Scorpius, once again, tripping on the hems of people’s robes.
“I don’t really like Mondays.” Albus said out loud. “Transfiguration, Defense Against the Dark Arts, wait that was okay, Double Charms with Flitwick. How ancient can a man get?”
Rose and Scorpius laughed. There was a long pause before,
“My mum sent an owl saying how proud she was that I made Gryffindor. She didn’t go to Hogwarts, you see. She went to Bauxbatons. She put her name in the goblet of fire when the Triwizard Tournament was held here. But Fleur Delacour made it instead. Any way, she says my dad’s not too pleased. She says he’s going to come up here to talk to McGonagall, but I’d rather be in Gryffindor.”
Albus thought for a moment. Then he said, “Your mum must have known Fleur Delacour then?”
“Duh.”
“She’s our aunt.” Albus said.
“Really? My mom wants to see her again, I’m sure of it. Do you think you could ask your aunt if she can arrange something?” Scorpius said his voice sounding excited.
“I’ll write to her tonight.”

Right outside the common room, Albus looked up at the portrait of Godric Gryffindor. Gryffindor looked back down at Albus.
“A nobleman of your sort should not be out here waiting to come in.” The picture said.
“Mantagora.” Albus stated.
Gryffindor grinned and swung forward.
Teddy Lupin was standing inside kissing Victoire Weasley.
“Oh.” Victoire said. And they broke apart, Victoire turning away. “See you at dinner?” And she hurried away up towards the girl’s dormitories.
“Hey Teddy. Sorry to interrupt, we didn’t know that you were in here.” Albus said quietly.
“It’s okay.” Teddy said smiling. “I never congratulated you on getting into Gryffindor.” He finished, slapping Albus on the back, and giving Rose a hug.
He looked at Scorpius. “And you are?” He said, extending his hand.
“Scorpius Malfoy.” He said shaking his hand.
“Nice to meet you. Now shall we go down to dinner?”
“Sure. Just let us drop our stuff off upstairs.”
When Albus and Scorpius returned from their dorm, Rose was already waiting with Teddy and a pink in the face Victoire.
They walked out through the portrait hole and found themselves face to face with a wide eyed man that looked thoroughly startled.
Albus walked right past him and turned around to see the man still staring at them.
“That was Professor Gurdine. He teaches Divination. Only a few years ago did they change Divination to be an all-grade subject. So you’ll be having him this week then?”
“Yup.” Scorpius said.
In no time, it seemed, they were strolling down the marble staircase towards the great hall.
Teddy and Victoire moved along together, holding hands.
“Hey, Albus?” Victoire said.
“Yeah.” Albus answered.
“Oh. Um. Well, never mind. I’ll ask you later.”
Scorpius looked at Victoire, frowning. “Is she Fleur’s daughter?”
“Yeah, Why?” Albus asked
“Hey, Victoire?” Scorpius asked.
“Yes.”
“Why don’t you have a French accent?”
“I don’t live in France, do I? Even though my mum is from there, doesn’t mean that I’ll speak the same as her. My dad is British you know. Bill Weasley.” Victoire answered.
“Oh.” Scorpius seemed slightly taken aback, but he got over it quickly.

After dinner, Victoire and Teddy went to stroll around the castle so that left just Albus, Scorpius, and Rose to go back to the dormitory.
“Mantagora.” Rose said defiantly, and the three of them walked into the common room, satisfied by their meal.
“Why don’t we start our homework.” Scorpius suggested.
“Sure. But all I have is work from Professor Flitwick. A foot of parchment on the reason why we study charms and what the importance of charms is.”
There was a tapping on the window and Rose hurried over to see what it was.
“It’s an owl!” Rose exclaimed.
She opened the window and the bird flew in. It was a maroon color.
Rose rushed over to the owl and as she picked up the letter, the bird turned orange.
“Wow! Did you see that?” Albus asked.
“It just turned orange!” Scorpius said, amazed.
And right before their eyes, it turned a vibrant yellow.
Rose tore open the letter.
“Here, there’s one for you.” She shoved another letter into Albus’s hands.
He opened the letter and read:
Dear Albus,
Congratulations on making Gryffindor. We are so proud of you.
The owl is for you and Rose to share to send letters back to us. You
May keep him. He is a special type of breed that our friend Luna
Lovegood has created. This is the only one of it’s kind. It changes color
every ten seconds and it changes to every color of the rainbow. At this point, Albus looked up and saw that the owl had changed to a purple color. He looked back down at the letter. Somehow, a golden piece of parchment had appeared on the letter. He picked it up and read again.
Now look away from the letter. A piece of parchment should have
shown up. I used this in my time at school, your uncle Fred and George
gave it to me after they had found it, and my father and his friends
created it. If you will take your wand and tap the paper with it, say “I
solemnly swear that I am up to no good.” My father was Prongs, Remus Lupin
was Moony, my godfather, Sirius was Padfoot, and a despicable man was
Wormtail. My dad could change to a deer, Remus a werewolf, Sirius a dog
And Wormtail a rat. That should make sense of the nicknames.
Albus looked down at the bit of parchment and said, “I solemnly swear I am up to no good.”
Before his eyes, words grew on the page and Albus was immediately interested.
To make it so no one can read it, say “Mischief managed.” That will
clear the words off of the page. It is a map you see, of Hogwarts. It
tells you where everyone is in the school. The classrooms, even secret
passageways. So don’t be too sneaky. Use it wisely. And write back
soon.
Love,
Dad

Hi, Albus! Lily and I miss you terribly. Now that you get to know
The school better, you have to help Lily out next year! Since family’s
are allowed to visit the school now, I think we’ll be dropping by around
Halloween. Lily can’t wait to see the school. I hope you like your owl
and map! Write soon!
Love,
Mum and Lily
Albus looked up from her page to find Rose still reading hers and that the owl had now turned a bright green.
Albus brought his eyes back down to the Marauder’s map.
“Mum’s having a baby!” Rose burst out.
“What?” Albus asked.
“My mum’s having a baby. It’s a girl. They’re naming her Mona. She says she been waiting to tell me the whole summer. She wanted to decide on a name first.” She said breathlessly. “I can’t belive it. She’s going to be born in December. Around Christmas.”
“Congrats.” Albus said smiling. “Never thought you’d have another sibling did you? Where are we going for Christmas anyway?”
“Well mum doesn’t mention it, but I guess we could be going to your house. Grimmauld Place, I mean. Or we could be going to the Burrow.” Rose said. She looked back down at her letter.
Albus sat down in one of the armchairs near the fire.
“Wait. Mum says that were having Christmas at your house, and New Years at mine.”
“Cool.”
“Your mom’s having a baby?” Scorpius asked.
“Wow, Scor, never knew any one could be that slow.” Albus said, grinning at him.
Just then the Portrait hole opened. Teddy and Victoire came in.
“Teddy, Victoire, guess what?” Rose said excitedly.
“What?” Victoire asked.
“Mom’s having a baby girl. Mona.”
“No WAY!” Victoire screamed. She ran over and hugged Rose.
“Congratulations!” Teddy said. And he came over to Rose also, smiling.
“That’s a really cool owl.” Victoire said as Teddy gave Rose a hug.
“Luna created it. It’s one of a kind. It’s Rose’s and mine.” Albus said.
Victoire came over to the owl and started petting it as it turned blue.
“Shall we send a note home in the morning, Rose?” Albus asked.
“Yes. YES. I’ll write one tonight so we can send it straight away.”
“And I’ll write one to Fleur asking her if she can arrange something with Scorpius’ mum.” Albus said.
“Okay.”
Albus sat down in one of the new cushy armchairs that sat near the fire. The chairs couldn’t have been from the time that his dad had been here, Albus thought. They were a maroon color and made from some kind of cotton and they were very comfortable. But the ones his dad used probably would have been sinking to the floor. He rested his head against the side of the armchair and closed his eyes, thinking about Mona and the owl and the Marauder’s map.
