Hello everyone,
I hope it's okay that I've opened this thread here. But I really need your help.
I'm in the middle of my MA exams in History and Literature. Next week I will have to write a three day paper in literature. It'll propably be about 'Literature and Magic' and one of my main 'source books' is Harry Potter.
I wanted to ask you if you could help me finding (or maybe you even know them already) scenes/citations in which the Hogwarts students talk about doing magic, e.g. the right way to do it. For example a scene in which Hermione tells Ron he's not doing it right, because he pronounces the words wrong, makes a wrong wand movement, etc.
If you find some, could you please tell me the page and in which version of the book it is, e.g. adult's version, American version, British version, paperback, etc.
I know it's a lot to ask. But it would help me a lot.
Thank you in advance.
To the mods: I hope it's okay, that I've opened this thread and that it's in the right 'area.

I'm sure this is the right place- seems to fit nicely.
Now then as for what you are looking for- yes I think that first charms lesson is definitely one to look into.
I'm in England so I assume all my books are British editions... Philosophers Stone is paper back
I don’t know if this is exactly what you’re looking for...
Chapter six journey from platform nine and three quarters, page 79
*Hermione talking to Ron about the spell on Scabbers*
"Oh, are you doing magic? Let's see it then."
She sat down. Ron looked taken aback.
“Err – all right.”
He cleared his throat.
“Sunshine, daises, butter mellow,
Turn this stupid, fat rat yellow.”
He waved his wand, but nothing happened. Scabbers stayed grey and fast asleep.
“Are you sure that’s a real spell?” Said the girl. “Well it’s not very good, is it? I’ve tried a few simple spells just for practice and it’s all worked for me.”
Chapter 9 the midnight duel, page 109
*MAlfoy doing something wrong*
Madam Hooch then showed them how to mount their brooms without sliding off the end, and walked up and down the rows, correcting their grips. Harry and Ron were delighted when she told Malfoy he’d been doing it wrong for years.
Page 112
*Harry getting something right- what sort of reaction this gets*
“Potter, this is Oliver Wood. Wood- I’ve found you a seeker.”
Wood’s expression changed from puzzlement to delight.
“Are you serious, Professor?”
“Absolutely," said Professor McGonagall crisply. “The boy’s a natural. I’ve never seen anything like it. Was that you first time on a broomstick, Potter?”
Page 116
*Hermione talking about knowing Switching Spells and the reward of this*
“Don’t you care about Gryffindor, you only care about yourselves, I don't want Slytherin to win the House Cup and you’ll lose all the points I got from Professor McGonagall for knowing about Switching Spells.”
Page 117
*Ron expressing a lack of knowledge- also suggestions that Hermione could perform this curse*
“If either of you get us caught, I’ll never rest until I’ve learnt that Curse of the Bogies Quirrell told us about and used it on you.”
Hermione opened her mouth, perhaps to tell Ron exactly how to use the Curse of the Bogies, but harry hissed at her to be quiet and beckoned them all forward.
Chapter 10 Halloween, page 126 + 127
*Flitwick talking about the importance of getting it right- Ron being corrected by Hermione- Seamus getting it wrong*
“Now, don't forget that nice wrist movement we’ve been practising!” Squeaked Professor Flitwick perched on top of his pile of books as usual. “swish and flick, remember, swish and flick. And saying the magic words properly is very important, too- never forget Wizard Baruffio, who said ‘s’ instead of ‘f’ and found himself on the floor with a buffalo on his chest.”
It was very difficult. Harry and Seamus swished and flicked, but the feather they were supposed to be sending skywards just lay on the desktop. Seamus got so impatient that he prodded it with his wand and set fire to it- harry had to put it out with his hat.
Ron at the next table wasn’t having much more luck.
“Wingardium Leviosa!” He shouted, waving his long arms like a windmill.
“You’re saying it wrong,” harry heard Hermione snap. “It’s wing-gar-dium Levi-o-sa, make the ‘gar’ nice and long.”
“You do it then if you’re so clever,” Ron snarled.
Hermione rolled up the sleeves of her gown, flicked her wand and said “Wingardium Leviosa!”
Their feather rose of the desk and hovered about feet above their heads.
Chapter 16 through the trap door, page 201+ 202
*Hermione forgetting to do magic*
“Stop moving!” Hermione ordered them. “I know what this is- it’s Devil’s Snare!”
“Oh, I’m so glad we know what it’s called, that’s a great help,” snarled Ron, leaning back, trying to stop the plant curling around his neck.
“Shut up, I’m trying to remember how to kill it!” said Hermione.
“Well, hurry up, I can’t breathe!” Harry gasped, wrestling with it as it curled around his chest.
“Devil’s Snare, Devil’s Snare... what did Professor Sprout say? It likes the dark and the damp-“
“So light a fire!” Harry choked.
“Yes – of course – but there’s no wood!” Hermione cried, wringing her hands.
“HAVE YOU GONE MAD?” Ron bellowed. “ARE YOU A WITCH OR NOT?”
“Oh, right!” said Hermione, and she whipped out her wand, waved it, muttered something and sent jet of the same bluebell flamed she had used on Snape at the plant. In a matter of seconds, the two boys felt it loosening its grip as it cringed away from the light and warmth. Wriggling and flailing, it unraveled itself from their bodies and they were able to pull free.
“Lucky you pay attention in Herbology, Hermione,” said harry as he joined her by the wall, wiping sweat off his face.
“Yeah,” said Ron, “and lucky harry doesn’t lose his head in a crisis- “there’s no wood”, honestly.”
Page 207 (Not too sure about this one)
“Brilliant, said Hermione. “This isn’t magic- its logic- a puzzle. A lot of the greatest wizards haven’t got an ounce of logic; they’d be stuck here forever.”
I'm doign Chamber of Secrets now.. but I might not be able to do the others today. hope this helps XD

Chamber of Secrets
Chapter 3 the burrow, page 24
*the boys talking about doing magic outside school*
“You know we’re not supposed to do spells outside school-“
“Bit rich coming from you,” said harry, staring at the floating car.
"Oh, this doesn't count," said Ron. "We're only borrowing this. It's Dad's, we didn't enchant it. But doing magic in front of those Muggles you live with -"
"I told you, I didn't - but it'll take too long to explain now look, can you tell them at Hogwarts that the Dursleys have locked me up and won't let me come back, and obviously I can't magic myself out, because the Ministry'll think that's the second spell I've done in three days, so -"
"Stop gibbering," said Ron. "We've come to take you home with us."
"But you can't magic me out either -"
"We don't need to," said Ron, jerking his head toward the front seat and grinning. "You forget who I've got with me."
Chapter 5 the whomping willow page 55 + 56
*the boys talking about doing magic outside school*
“I think we’d better go and wait by the car,” said Harry. “We’re attracting too much atten---“
“Harry!” said Ron, his eyes gleaming. “The car!”
“What about it?”
“We can fly the car to Hogwarts!”
“But I thought-“
“We’re stuck, right? And we’ve got to get to school, haven’t we? And even underage wizards are allowed to use magic if it’s a real emergency, section nineteen or something of the Restriction of Thingy---“
Chapter 6 Gildroy Lockhart (not sure about this either, but it’s like knowledge of other magic not spells) page 72
"Now, who can tell me the properties of the Mandrake?"
To nobody’s surprise, Hermione’s hand was first into the air.
"Mandrake or Mandragora is a powerful restorative," said Hermione, sounding as usual as though she had swallowed the textbook. "It is used to return people who have been transfigured or cursed, to their original state."
"Excellent. Ten points to Gryffindor," said Professor Sprout. "The Mandrake forms an essential part of most antidotes. It is also, however, dangerous. Who can tell me why?"
Hermione's hand narrowly missed Harry's glasses as it shot up again.
"The cry of the Mandrake is fatal to anyone who hears it," she said promptly.
"Precisely. Take another ten points,"
Chapter 9 the writing on the wall page115
*talking about dark magic*
“But, professor,” piped up Parvati Patil, “you’ probably have to use Dark Magic to open it-“
“Just because a wizard doesn’t use Dark Magic, doesn’t mean he can’t.”
Chapter 10 the rogue bludger pages 124 +125
*The trio talking about the difficulties of making the potion etc- also bit of peer pressure from Hermione, coaxing them to do the magic*
"This is the most complicated potion I've ever seen." said Hermione, as they scanned the recipe. "Lacewing flies, leeches, fluxweed and knotgrass," she murmured, running her fingers down the list of ingredients. “Well, they’re easy enough, they’re in the student store-cupboard, we can help ourselves. Oooh, look, powdered horn of a Bicorn- don't know we’re going to get that.. Shredded skin of a Boomslang- that’ll be tricky too- and of course a bit of whoever we want to change into.”
“Excuse me?” said Ron sharply. “What d’you mean, a bit of whoever we’re changing into? I'm drinking nothing with Crabbe's toenails in it…"
Hermione continued as though she hadn’t heard him.
We don't have to worry about that yet, though, because we add those bits last ....”
Ron turned, speechless, to Harry, who had another worry.
"D'you realise how much we're going to have to steal, Hermione? Shredded skin of a Boomslang, that's definitely not in the students' cupboard. What're we going to do, break into Snape's private stores. I don't know if this is a good idea ...”
Hermione shut the book with a snap.
"Well, if you two are going to chicken out, fine," she said. There were bright pink patches on her cheeks and her eyes were brighter than usual. "I don't want to break rules, you know. I think threatening Muggle-borns is far worse than brewing up a difficult potion. But if you don't want to find out if it's Malfoy, I'll go straight to Madam Prince now and hand the book back in...”
"I never thought I’d see the day when you'd be persuading us to break rules," said Ron. "All right, we'll do it. But not toenails, okay."
"How long will it take to make, anyway." said Harry as Hermione, looking happier, opened the book again.
"Well, since the fluxweed has got to be picked at the full moon and the lacewings have got to be stewed for twenty-one days ... I'd say it'd be ready in about a month, if we can get all the ingredients." "A month." said Ron. "Malfoy could have attacked half the Muggle- borns in the school by then!" But Hermione's eyes narrowed dangerously again, and he added swiftly, "But it's the best plan we've got, so full steam ahead, I say."
Chapter 11 the duelling club page 141
*talking about magic as means of defence*
"They're starting a Duelling Club!" said Seamus. "First meeting tonight! I wouldn't mind duelling lessons; they might come in handy one of these days ...”
"What, you reckon Slytherin's monster can duel." said Ron, but he, too, read the sign with interest.
"Could be useful," he said to Harry and Hermione as they went into dinner. "Shall we go."
Pages 146 + 147
*doing magic without realising*
You're a Parselmouth. Why didn't you tell us."
"I'm a what." said Harry.
`A Parselmouth!" said Ron. "You can talk to snakes!"
"I know," said Harry. "I mean, that's only the second time I've ever done it. I accidentally set a boa constrictor on my cousin Dudley at the zoo once - long story - but it was telling me it had never seen Brazil and I sort of set it free without meaning to that was before I knew I was a wizard -"
"A boa constrictor told you it had never seen Brazil." Ron repeated faintly.
"So." said Harry. "I bet loads of people here can do it."
"Oh, no they can't," said Ron. "It's not a very common gift. Harry, this is bad."
"What's bad." said Harry, starting to feel quite angry. "What's wrong with everyone? Listen, if I hadn't told that snake not to attack Justin -"
"Oh, that's what you said to it."
"What d'you mean. You were there - you heard me -"
"I heard you speaking Parseltongue," said Ron. "Snake language. You could have been saying anything - no wonder Justin panicked, you sounded like you were egging the snake on or something - it was creepy, you know -"
Harry gaped at him.
"I spoke a different language. But - I didn't realize - how can I speak a language without knowing I can speak it."
Ron shook his head. Both he and Hermione were looking as though someone had died. Harry couldn't see what was so terrible.
"D'you want to tell me what's wrong with stopping a massive snake biting off Justin's head." he said. "What does it matter how I did it as long as Justin doesn't have to join the Headless Hunt."
Page 148 + 149
*talking about doing dark magic*
"Hannah," said the stout boy solemnly, "he's a Parselmouth. Everyone knows that's the mark of a Dark wizard. Have you ever heard of a decent one who could talk to snakes? They called Slytherin himself Serpent-tongue."
Chapter 12 page 160
*Ron on how careful they need to be with magic*
“Have you ever heard a plan where so many things could go wrong?”
Page 161 +162
*preparing to take the polyjuice potion*
“I'm sure I've done everything right,” said Hermione, nervously rereading the splotched page of Moste Potente Potions. “It looks like the book says it should... once we've drunk it, we'll have exactly an hour before we change back into ourselves.”
“Now what?” Ron whispered.
“We separate it into three glasses and add the hairs.”
Hermione ladled large dollops of the potion into each of the glasses. Then, her hand trembling, she shook Millicent Bulstrode's hair out of its bottle into the first glass.
The potion hissed loudly like a boiling kettle and frothed madly. A second later, it had turned a sick sort of yellow.
“Urgh—essence of Millicent Bulstrode,” said Ron, eyeing it with loathing. “Bet it tastes disgusting.”
“Add yours, then,” said Hermione.
Harry dropped Goyle's hair into the middle glass and Ron put Crabbe's into the last one. Both glasses hissed and frothed: Goyle's turned the khaki colour of a booger, Crabbe's a dark, murky brown.
“Hang on,” said Harry as Ron and Hermione reached for their glasses. “We'd better not all drink them in here... Once we turn into Crabbe and Goyle we won't fit. And Millicent Bulstrode's no pixie.
“Good thinking,” said Ron, unlocking the door. “We'll take separate stalls.”
Careful not to spill a drop of his Polyjuice Potion, Harry slipped into the middle stall.
“Ready?” he called.
“Ready,” came Ron's and Hermione's voices.
“One—two—three—”

*talking about the outcome of magic gone wrong*
What's up?” said Ron uncertainly. “Have you still got Millicent's nose or something?”
Hermione let her robes fall and Ron backed into the sink.
Her face was covered in black fur. Her eyes had turned yellow and there were long, pointed ears poking through her hair.
“It was a c-cat hair!” she howled. “M-Millicent Bulstrode m-must have a cat! And the p-potion isn't supposed to be used for animal transformations!”
“Uh-oh,” said Ron.

“Good thinking,” said Ron. “I'd light mine, too, but you know—it'd probably blow up or something...”

*Ron talking about using his broken wand- again*
“Can you imagine me taking exams with this?” he asked Harry, holding up his wand, which had just started whistling loudly.

“This means,” Said Harry, “I can't be the only Parselmouth in the school. The Heir of Slytherin's one, too. That's how he's been controlling the basilisk.”

*Ron talking about his wand backfiring*
“Where's Lockhart?”
“Back there,” said Ron, still looking puzzled but jerking his head up the tunnel toward the pipe. “He's in a bad way. Come and see.”
Led by Fawkes, whose wide scarlet wings emitted a soft golden glow in the darkness, they walked all the way back to the mouth of the pipe. Gilderoy Lockhart was sitting there, humming placidly to himself.
“His memory's gone,” said Ron. “The Memory Charm backfired. Hit him instead of us. Hasn't got a clue who he is, or where he is, or who we are. I told him to come and wait here. He's a danger to himself”

Thank you so much. These are exactly citations I'm looking for. Especially ones like Philosopher's Stone Chapter 10. When they talk about doing magic through words, and that magic doesn't work right when you pronounce the words wrong. Interesting, isn't it? That magic is so closely connected to language. Makes me wonder if the magic language in Harry Potter is an international language, you know, whether all the wizards, from Poland, France, etc. use the same. And if yes, what about their accents. Does then magic still work the same?
Then I also like the citations about magical elements, mandrakes for example, and dark magic. And here's a question: There is a lot of talking about dark magic. But what is the 'counter magic ' called? Light magic? White magic? Is it ever mentioned.
You should get an award for this. Thank you so much.

and also if you're copy and pasting this keep an eye out for missed out speech marks or full stops, because I know I've missed a few

Chapter 4 the leaky cauldron pages46 + 47
*Hermione talking about the seriousness of harry doing magic outside of school*
Did you really blow up your aunt, Harry?" said Hermione in a very serious voice.
"I didn't mean to," said Harry, while Ron roared with laughter. "I just-- lost control."
"It's not funny, Ron," said Hermione sharply. "Honestly, I'm amazed Harry wasn't expelled."
"So am I," admitted Harry. "Forget expelled, I thought I was going to be arrested." He looked at Ron. “Your dad doesn't know why Fudge let me off, does he?"
"Probably 'cause it's you, isn't it?" shrugged Ron, still chuckling. "Famous Harry Potter and all that. I'd hate to see what the Ministry'd do to me if I blew up an aunt. Mind you, they'd have to dig me up first, because Mum would've killed me.

*Hermione on the idea that divination isn’t magic*
"I think Divination seems very woolly," she said, searching for her page. "A lot of guesswork, if you ask me."
"There was nothing woolly about the Grim in that cup!" said Ron hotly.
You didn't seem quite so confident when you were telling Harry it was a sheep," said Hermione coolly.
"Professor Trelawney said you didn't have the right aura! You just don't like being bad at something for a change!"
He had touched a nerve. Hermione slammed her Arithmancy book down on the table so hard that bits of meat and carrot flew everywhere.
"If being good at Divination means I have to pretend to see death omens in a lump of tea leaves, I'm not sure I'll be studying it much longer! That lesson was absolute rubbish compared with my Arithmancy class!"
Chapter 7 Bogart in the wardrobe page 105+106
*Gryffindors talking about the DADA lesson*
Talking excitedly, the class left the staffroom. Harry, however, wasn't feeling cheerful. Professor Lupin had deliberately stopped him from tackling the Bogart. Why? Was it because he'd seen Harry collapse on the train, and thought he wasn't up to much? Had he thought Harry would pass out again?
But no one else seemed to have noticed anything.
"Did you see me take that banshee?" shouted Seamus. "And the hand!" said Dean, waving his own around.
"And Snape in that hat!" "And my mummy!"
I wonder why Professor Lupin's frightened of crystal balls?" said Lavender thoughtfully.
"That was the best Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson we've ever had, wasn't it?" said Ron
Chapter 9 grim defeat page 136
*Hermione describing what Dumbledore did to get rid of the dementors*
"I've never seen him like that before. He ran onto the field as you fell, waved his wand and you sort of slowed down before you hit the ground. Then he whirled his wand at the dementors. Shot silver stuff at them. They left the stadium right away... He was furious they'd come onto the grounds. We heard him --"
"Then he magicked you onto a stretcher," said Ron. "And walked up to school with you floating on it.

"You made that dementor on the train back off," said Harry suddenly.
"There are -- certain defences one can use," said Lupin. "But there was only one dementor on the train. The more there are, the more difficult it becomes to resist."
"What defences?" said Harry at once. "Can you teach me?"
"I don't pretend to be an expert at fighting dementors, Harry, quite the contrary..."
"But if the dementors come to another Quidditch match, I need to be able to fight them --"
Chapter twelve the Patronus pages 175 +176
*harry and Lupin in Patronus lessons number one*
"The spell I am going to try and teach you is highly advanced magic, Harry -- well beyond ordinary Wizarding Level. It is called the Patronus Charm."
"How does it work?" said Harry nervously.
"Well, when it works correctly, It conjures up a Patronus," said Lupin, "which is a kind of anti- dementor -- a guardian that acts as a shield between you and the dementor."
Harry had a sudden vision of himself crouching behind a Hagrid sized figure holding a large club. Professor Lupin continued, "The Patronus is a kind of positive force, a projection of the very things that the dementor feeds upon -- hope, happiness, the desire to survive -- but it cannot feel despair, as real humans can, so the dementors can't hurt it. But I must warn you, Harry, that the charm might be too advanced for you. Many qualified wizards have difficulty with it."
"What does a Patronus look like?" said Harry curiously.
"Each one is unique to the wizard who conjures it."
"And how do you conjure it?"
"With an incantation, which will work only if you are concentrating, with all your might, on a single, very happy memory."
Harry cast his mind about for a happy memory. Certainly, nothing that had happened to him at the Dursleys' was going to do. Finally, he settled on the moment when he had first ridden a broomstick.
"Right," he said, trying to recall as exactly as possible the wonderful, soaring sensation of his stomach.
"The incantation is this --" Lupin cleared his throat. "Expecto patronum!"
"Expecto patronum, " Harry repeated under his breath, "expect patronum."
"Concentrating hard on your happy memory?"
"Oh -- yeah --" said Harry, quickly forcing his thoughts back to that first broom ride. "Expecto patrono -- no, patronum -- sorry – expect patronum, expecto patronum"
Something whooshed suddenly out of the end of his wand; it looked like a wisp of silvery gas.
"Did you see that?" said Harry excitedly. "Something happened!"
"Very good," said Lupin, smiling. "Right, then -- ready to try it on a dementor?"
Page 182
*harry commenting on the Patronus charm*
"For a thirteen-year-old wizard, even an indistinct Patronus is a huge achievement. You aren't passing out anymore, are you?"
I thought a Patronus would -- charge the dementors down or something," said Harry dispiritedly. "Make them disappear --"
"The true Patronus does do that," said Lupin. "But you've achieved a great deal in a very short space of time. If the dementors put in an appearance at your next Quidditch match, you will be able to keep them at bay long enough to get back to the ground."
"You said it's harder if there are loads of them," said Harry.

*Hermione explaining that she has made them go back in time*
"What -- how -- Hermione, what happened?"
"We've gone back in time," Hermione whispered, lifting the chain off Harry's neck in the darkness. "Three hours back..."
Harry found his own leg and gave it a very hard pinch. It hurt a lot, which seemed to rule out the possibility that he was having a very bizarre dream.
"But --"
"Shh! Listen! Someone's coming! I think -- I think it might be us!" Hermione had her ear pressed against the cupboard door. "Footsteps across the hall... yes, I think it's us going down to Hagrid's!"
"Are you telling me," Harry whispered, "that we're here in this cupboard and we're out there too?"
"Yes," said Hermione, her ear still glued to the cupboard door. "I'm sure it's us. It doesn't sound like more than three people... and we're walking slowly because we're under the Invisibility Cloak -- "
She broke off, still listening intently."We've gone down the front steps...."
Hermione sat down on an upturned bucket, looking desperately anxious, but Harry wanted a few questions answered.
"Where did you get that hourglass thing?"
"It's called a Time-Turner," Hermione whispered, "and I got it from Professor McGonagall on our first day back. I've been using it all year to get to all my lessons. Professor McGonagall made me swear I wouldn't tell anyone. She had to write all sorts of letters to the Ministry of Magic so I could have one. She had to tell them that I was a model student, and that I'd never, ever use it for anything except my
studies.... I've been turning it back so I could do hours over again, that's how I've been doing several lessons at once, see? But...
Page 297
*Hermione and harry talk about the Patronus *
"But what was it?"
"There's only one thing it could have been, to make the dementors go," said Harry. "A real Patronus. A powerful one."
"But who conjured it?"
Harry didn't say anything. He was thinking back to the person he'd seen on the other bank of the lake. He knew who he thought it had been... but how could it have been?
"Didn't you see what they looked like?" said Hermione eagerly. "Was it one of the teachers?"
"No," said Harry. "He wasn't a teacher."
"But it must have been a really powerful wizard, to drive all those dementors away... If the Patronus was shining so brightly, didn't it light him up? Couldn't you see --?"
"Yeah, I saw him," said Harry slowly. "But... maybe I imagined it.... I wasn't thinking straight.... I passed out right afterward...."
"Who did you think it was?"
I think --" Harry swallowed, knowing how strange this was going to sound. “I think it was my dad."
Page 301
*harry talks about him casting the charm*
"Yes, haven't you been listening? I saw me but I thought I was my dad! It's okay!"
"Harry, I can't believe it.... You conjured up a Patronus that drove away all those dementors! That's very, very advanced magic.”
“I knew I could do it this time," said Harry, "because I'd already done it.... Does that make sense?"
I sure do hope there's more in order oft he pheonix- its takena few hours and all i got is this measley few oh well.. every little helps XD

Chapter 11 aboard the Hogwarts express
Page 148
*Hermione talks about magic concealing things*
"Where is it? What country?"
"Well, nobody knows, do they?" said Hermione, raising her eyebrows.
"Er - why not?" said Harry.
"There's traditionally been a lot of rivalry between all the magic schools. Durmstrang and Beauxbatons like to conceal their whereabouts so nobody can steal their secrets," said Hermione matter-of-factly.
"Come off it," said Ron, starting to laugh. "Durmstrang's got to be about the same size as Hogwarts -- how are you going to hide a great big castle?"
"But Hogwarts is hidden," said Hermione, in surprise. "Everyone knows that... well, everyone who's read Hogwarts, A History, anyway."
"Just you, then," said Ron. "So go on - how d'you hide a place like Hogwarts?"
"It's bewitched," said Hermione. "If a Muggle looks at it, all they see is a mouldering old ruin with a sign over the entrance saying DANGER, DO NOT ENTER, UNSAFE."
"So Durmstrang'll just look like a ruin to an outsider too?"
"Maybe," said Hermione, shrugging, "or it might have Muggle-repelling charms on it, like the World Cup stadium. And to keep foreign wizards from finding it, they'll have made it Unplottable -"
"Come again?"
"Well, you can enchant a building so it's impossible to plot on a map, can't you?"
"Er. . . if you say so," said Harry.

*moody sums up the 3 curses*
“Now. . . those three curses - Avada Kedavra, Imperius, and Cruciatus - are known as the Unforgivable Curses. The use of any one of them on a fellow human being is enough to earn a life sentence in Azkaban.”

Aha until chapter 30 the pensieve

*Dumbledore discusses the penseive with harry*
The contents had returned to their original, silvery-white state, swirling and rippling beneath his gaze.
"What is it?" Harry asked shakily.
"This? It is called a Pensieve," said Dumbledore. "I sometimes find, and I am sure you know the feeling, that I simply have too many thoughts and memories crammed into my mind."
"Er," said Harry, who couldn't truthfully say that he had ever felt anything of the sort.
"At these times," said Dumbledore, indicating the stone basin, "I use the Pensieve. One simply siphons the excess thoughts from one's mind, pours them into the basin, and examines them at one's leisure. It becomes easier to spot patterns and links, you understand, when they are in this form."
"You mean . . . that stuff's your thoughts?" Harry said, staring at the swirling white substance in the basin.
"Certainly," said Dumbledore.

*Dumbledore explains the connection between harry’s and riddles’ wands*
"The wands connected?" he said, looking from Harry to Dumbledore. "Why?"
Harry looked up at Dumbledore again, on whose face there was an arrested look.
"Priori Incantatem," he muttered.
His eyes gazed into Harry's and it was almost as though an invisible beam of understanding shot between them.
"The Reverse Spell effect?" said Sirius sharply.
"Exactly," said Dumbledore. "Harry's wand and Voldemorts wand share cores. Each of them contains a feather from the tail of the same phoenix. This phoenix, in fact," he added, and he pointed at the scarlet-and-gold bird, perching peacefully on Harry's knee.
"My wand's feather came from Fawkes?" Harry said, amazed.
"Yes," said Dumbledore. "Mr. Ollivander wrote to tell me you had bought the second wand, the moment you left his shop four years ago."
"So what happens when a wand meets its brother?" said Sirius.
"They will not work properly against each other," said Dumbledore. "If, however, the owners of the wands force the wands to do battle ... a very rare effect will take place. One of the wands will force the other to regurgitate spells it has performed - in reverse. The most recent first. . . and then those which preceded it. . . ."
He looked interrogatively at Harry, and Harry nodded.
"Which means," said Dumbledore slowly, his eyes upon Harry's face, "that some form of Cedric must have reappeared."
Harry nodded again.
"Diggory came back to life?" said Sirius sharply.
"No spell can reawaken the dead," said Dumbledore heavily. "All that would have happened is a kind of reverse echo. A shadow of the living Cedric would have emerged from the wand . . . am I correct, Harry?"
"He spoke to me," Harry said. He was suddenly shaking again. "The . . . the ghost Cedric, or whatever he was, spoke."
"An echo," said Dumbledore, "which retained Cedric's appearance and character. I am guessing other such forms appeared . . . less recent victims of Voldemort's wand...."
"An old man," Harry said, his throat still constricted. "Bertha Jorkins. And . . ."
"Your parents?" said Dumbledore quietly.
"Yes," said Harry.
Sirius's grip on Harry's shoulder was now so tight it was painful.
"The last murders the wand performed," said Dumbledore, nodding. "In reverse order. More would have appeared, of course, had you maintained the connection. Very well, Harry, these echoes, these shadows . .. what did they do?"
Harry described how the figures that had emerged from the wand had prowled the edges of the golden web, how Voldemort had seemed to fear them.
