When you're debating in the forums, there is a facility here that allows you to post a link taking you directly to a specific previous post as opposed to linking to a whole thread.

The only thing is that you *do* need to find that post first... tongue.gif

Okay...an example....

If I wanted to refer back to a post I'd made in Lupinland a couple of months ago....the 'silver rules' for example, what I'd do is this....

1. First click on the thread in which the post was made - 'Join SPELL and Visit Lupinland Today'

2. Find the specific post you are looking for - in this case, the post I was looking for was on page 7.

3. On the post header (the little bar at the top) on the right hand side, you'll see 'Post #' opposite the date and time the post was made. Click on the number.

4. You'll get a little window popping up that says 'Script prompt' and there will be a highlighted link beneath that. RIGHT click it and choose 'copy'.

5. Now, go back to the original thread where you want to make a new post referring to the one that you've just been to. Click on 'Add reply'.

6. Post in the normal way...but you now need to add the link that you've just copied. Click on the 'http' tag (the little world icon) at the top of the box where you type out your post. You'll get another 'script prompt' - right click in the box and paste your link.

7. You'll get another little window with the default setting 'My website' highlighted. Delete that and type in whatever name you want to for the previous post to which you're referring.

8. Done!! Just click 'add reply' as normal and check your post to make sure that the new hyperlink takes you directly to the specific post you want to refer to.

This will save you from having to re-type out long arguments again.

This doesn't solve the problem of finding the post in the first place though... wink.gif Of course, using the search engine makes life much easier - there's a separate thread here in Newbies Central for that.

Hope this helps!! If anyone has any queries, please don't hesitate to contact a staff member via Owl. smile.gif
