Ive just been reading the PoA again and am slightly puzzled by one piece concerning the mauraders map.
When Lupin follows harry ron and hermione into the shrieking shack he says he knew they, sirius and peter were there as he saw them on the mauraders map heading there yes?
So how come he didnt see the future harry and hermione on the map? surely it would show them too?
I couldnt see that this had ever been mentioned anywhere before, so if it has apologies, was just wondering what other peoples ideas on this was.

that's a very nice question you have put up.. i dont know, really.. its tough... Could it be possible that with the time turners on, you cannot be seen in the map? Maybe the maraunders didnt really think about the time turners while preparing the map?

This is a good question! With time turners, maybe it is that it just replays time and your there and can change it. Because stuff that you've done with the time turner, before you've even gone to the future and changed it. I'm not really sure if that makes any sense at all so I'll give an example that will hopefully get across what I'm trying to say.
In PoA, before the time-turner event that saves Sirius, Harry sees the stag saving he and Sirius. Then later on when they use the time-turner, it turns out that Harry conjured the stag and was the reason he and Sirius were still alive.
So what I'm trying to say here, is that it wouldn't show them because technically they were there in the future, even though they had already done some events. Maybe to the marauders' map, it doesn't matter if you use a time-turner.

I agree with you, hot-for-harry. And I also add that time and destiny are such complicated things that I doubt that any person can predict or picture it, as Dumbledore said. The map never lies; but it's complicated to predict actions that can happen or not; Harry and Hermione could have never been in the future; if Harry hadn't reacted, he wouldn't have conjured the Patronus he had seen previously (and that would have been a mess, actually) and so the map would have lied. But the point is that the map shows the present, not the past, and not the future, and even when the Harry and the Hermione belonging to the future where in the present, they were ... part of the future, like more than ghosts. Well, I don't know if I was clear enough, but I hope that helps you!

You have already put in it good word what happened. The map never lies, letting Lupin see the Present. He cannot, however, see the Future, or What May Be. Then there is the essence of time. Time is a mystery that can't be unraveled. When you mix time and magic, you get something that not even the Marauder's Map can decipher.
The Marauders also may not have thought of Time-Turner figures when they made the map, or had no means to locate and add them onto their remarkable map. The TIme-Turner people are the Future as well as the Past. How can you figure that out. Or more puzzling still, how do you pinpoint their locations on a magic map?

i just took it as lupin didn't notice the future harry and hermione. it's possible though that the marauders didn't think about time-turners though.

I think that with the time turners when you go back in time you go into a sort of limbo where you don't exist but you can effect the world. this would explain the fact that you can't see future Harry and Hermione on the map but it causes a lot of new questions to be asked.

For me, i think it's mainly because of the two selves. When harry and hermione go back in time, they see themselves from their past, right? The marauder's map was probably didn't show it because the map is not a fortune-teller and only recorded the ones in the present, not the future. Also, it would cause so much confusion to the user of the map.Remember what Harry or hermion, I think, mentioned that you can't be in two places at once.

Interesting topic. I think that like the room of requirement, a time turner makes you unplottable if you are already in the same place. since they went back and they were avaoiding themselves they would have been unplottable on a map of hogwarts since they were already running around else where.
