Harry and Ron were in the bedroom that they shared at Number 12 Grimmauld Place. Since it was Halloween, they had been busy all day, cleaning up and decorating. They were sitting on their beds at the moment, hiding from Hermione who had taken it upon herself to fill Mrs. Weasley’s shoes in cleaning up the house.

“Got a costume for tonight?” asked Ron. Harry walked over to his bed and sat down.

“Sure do. How about you?” asked Harry. Since he had lived with the Dursley’s all his life, Harry never really got to dress up and trick-or-treat on Halloween.

“Yep,” Ron replied, they were both careful not to spoil the surprise of what they were going to be. Just then Hermione came in and yanked Ron out of the room, muttering something about getting pixies out of a cupboard. Harry was glad that Ron left; it gave him time to get changed.

An hour later, people started to come over. Ron – in his Indian costume – and Harry had struggled to magically staple the curtains in front of Mrs. Black’s portrait shut so she wouldn’t disturb the party. Presently, Harry walked past Mrs. Black’s portrait - who was screaming quietly behind the curtains at the doorbell - and opened the door to let the Patil twins past.

“Hi Harry.” they said simultaneously. They both had the same costume on so it made it even harder to tell them apart. “Nice costume.” Harry looked down at his cowboy outfit and smiled.

Harry shut the front door behind them and turned to look at his and Ron’s handy work. Grimmauld Place resembled a haunted house, which the day of straightening up had not changed much. Cob webs hung from the ceiling and chandlers; everything had a unique, never-been-touched-in-a-long-time look to it.

Harry was shaken out of his observations by the doorbell ringing and Mrs. Black’s quiet screaming. He turned back and opened the door.

“Hey Harry! Nice costume!” Dean said. He was wearing a costume that looked like a hag.

“Glad you could come.” Harry replied, stepping out of the way so Dean could come in.

An hour later, everyone who had been invited, had arrived and gathered in the kitchen. When Harry got there he heard a soft tune ringing through the air and the din clatter of people talking. After chatting to the people gathered there, and admiring their costumes, he, Ron and Hermione conversed quietly for a few moments.

“Attention!” Hermione called across the room. She was dressed like a cat – after getting the Polyjuice Potion wrong in their second year, she had taken a real liking to them. “Can I have your attention please?” She stood up on a chair as the room fell silent. “I just want to thank you all for coming and helping us celebrate Halloween!” Everyone cheered. “Now, we have a surprise. It is time to announce the winner of the costume contest!” People looked at each other in surprise, then back at Hermione. “The winner is-” A loud popping noise interrupted her as well as the five people who appeared in the middle of the room.

“What...” Ron stared in wonder and shock. Everyone was looking in shock at the newcomers. One boy out of the group looked up at Harry. It was like looking into a mirror, everything looked the same except their eyes. He was 17, the same age as Harry, and had black hair and glasses.

“James, where are we?” asked another boy, scratching his head and looking around. “It looks like Grimmauld Place, but… cleaner.”

“I think you’re right Sirius.” James replied, not looking away from Harry. “Who are you?”

“I’m Harry.” Harry replied once he found his voice, careful not to say his last name. He couldn’t believe that he was seeing his father in the flesh! The other four turned their heads to look at Harry. He noticed that Remus, Peter and his mother Lily were all there.

“What are you doing here?” Harry asked.

“Sirius, why are we so far in the future?” James asked instead, shifting his gaze away from Harry toward Sirius. Sirius shrugged lightly as he laid a time-turner on his palm and started inspecting it.

“The knob is stuck to this time.” Sirius replied after a few minutes.

“Our present selves won’t be walking in on us will they?” asked Remus suddenly. Ron's face grimaced.

“No, they won’t be here.” Hermione replied casually. Remus nodded, satisfied.

“So what are you doing here?” Harry repeated.

“Just wanted to see all there is to see here in the future. Haven’t you ever wanted to time travel?” James replied, winking slyly. Harry had time traveled, and he didn’t care to repeat the experience.

“To the future?” asked Ron skeptically. They had completely forgotten about all the people listening in on their conversation.

“Well yes, but not quiet this far into the future.” Sirius said, raising an eyebrow.

“Why Grimmauld Place?” asked Harry. “You hate this place Sirius.” If Sirius was shocked as to how Harry knew that, he hid it well.

“Here is actually where we found the time-turner. I inherited this house and we were just ransacking the place to see if anything interesting got left behind. Count on mother to hide a time-turner in the kitchen set so far into the future. She always was crazy.” he replied, smiling grimly.

“Hey! I know how to get us back!” Remus said, looking at the time-turner he had taken from Sirius. “Your mother obviously wanted to get back somehow. There is a minor spell holding the knob in place.”

“Well, it was nice to meet you.” James said, looking over everyone in the room closely. He leaned in close to Sirius and whispered, “Strange customs they have.” Harry looked down at his cowboy costume and smiled as Sirius laughed his bark like laugh. Remus threw the chain over all five of their heads and set the dial.

“Bye!” they called as they vanished in a whirl of color.

Harry turned to all the people gathered in the kitchen and smiled weakly. Their eyes were wide and mouths slightly agape. A few moments passed in silence as everyone tried to grasp what had happened. Hermione stepped forward then and awkwardly cleared her throat.

“So, do you still want to know who won the costume contest?”
