in philosophers stone, hagrid buys hedwig for harry could this be because this is the owl dumbledore wanted harry to have because hes an animagus? as someone to keep an eye on him? it is surprising how dumbledore seems to know everything thats going on with harry. is hedwig an insider? this sounds stupid but i just wondered.
Thankssssssssss tongue.gif

Hmm. Don't really know, but do we have any evidence at all suggesting Hedwig could be an animagus? BTW, Hedwig is a girl.
zyra123
I'm pretty much sure I've read this one before, but I simply can't find it now for the life of me!

Alright, I'll leave it open for now... until I found the other one... or one of the mods does...

Whether the topics been presented before or not, you can end this one easily.

Why would Hedwig be an animagus? She spends most of her time in a cage or in the Owlery, not much use if Harry's in danger.

Report details on Harry's state of mind? You ask. Why when DD or anyone else could just ask him or his friends?

i agree and disagree with this. true, harry and hedwig wouldnt be spending too much time together but i guess they have thier moments.

and yea, dumbledore could ask harry or his friends if somethings bothering him but i dont think that would be much use. in chamber of secrets, dumbledore directly asked if there was anything bothering harry but harry told him nothing was wrong.

i think that dumbledore would want a more reliable source if he wanted to check up on harry.

i hedwig was an animagus that would be very interesting though happy.gif she's not around 24/7 but maybe if the trio were talking with one another in the common room or in the dorms then hedwig might be there at the time, making it seem less obvious

im on the fence with this one. however, if im shown substantial evidence supporting this then i could possibly sway towards hedwig being an animagus, but i need proof.

I dont think she is one bit. Ok i liked the idea about keeping a eye on him because that would tell us why DD knows so fast whats going on. But i just dont think this is right.

But DD knew that Harry was not telling the truth, because he can read minds. The film made this more obvious than the book.

Dumbledore misses NOTHING biggrin.gif

I was wondering
if Hedwig is an animagus: why would Hagrid just buy her at that strore?
i mean if Dumbledore would wanted Harry to have an animagusowl he would get it otherwise would he?
Hallia
LindaLikesLuna13 is quite right. In the movie wwe see Hagrid appear with Hedwig, but in the book he buys Hedwig while he´s with Harry, so I don´t see a possibility of Hagrid buying her because DD said so.
LindaLikesLuna13
jeah but it could be that DD made a deal with the owner of the pet store and that he(the owner) could only sell hedwig to Hargid

does that make sense?
but this way it becomes really complex

by the way i like it te be right

I don't think that Hedwig is an animagus, why would he? I mean, just because Scabby was one doesn't mean we have to suspect every animal in HP. If Hedwig was an animagus we would now that by now wouldn't we? And by Scabby, we knew that it was something wrong with him since he acted kind of strangely...But Hedwig is so kind at all times and he is not at all suspecious... Well, these are just my meanings. tongue.gif

I agree Jo's used the animagus story line so many times now, I doubt we'll se it again. All the Marauders are animaguses, Rita was an animagus, as well as McGonagall, IMHO I think this means there will be no more such surprises.

Hedwig, Crookshanks and Mrs. Norris are all very intelligent animals, but I don’t believe any are animaguses.
Crookshanks is intelligent because he's part Kneazle
I always presumed Hedwig was intelligent because she was an owl, and owls are suppose to be wise:) , and finally Mrs Norris, to be honest i don’t have a clue why she’s so clever, maybe it's just because she's an old cat and so has a lot of experience..
Just a guess.

i don't think she is an animagous because Hermionie would have told Ron and Harry that there is person who is an animagous and who transforms into a snowy owl, also Hedwig would have transformed into a human in OoP
Luke_57
you guys are just looking for clues any place you can huh laugh.gif this is a very interesting theory but i highly doubt it is anything but just that, a theory. Hedwig is just an owl that Hagrid bought for harry as a gift on his first day of knowing that he was a wizard. He is a snowy owl used for communication between harry and whatever name is enclosed in the letters he sends.

imho wink.gif

I'm not sure an animagus would eat dead mice. I agree there isn't much evidence to support this. I think Hedwig is a very smart owl that's all.

He would if it meant a good disguise or putting people off their track if he wants his true identity remain unknown. And there is other animagus who live on rats before. Padfoot. That's what he said when Harry and the others brought bread for him at the cave when they met up in GoF.

Although, like I said earlier, I don't think he's one. There just no need too I believe. I'd rather him remain an owl, anywho... wink.gif

I think it would be some kind of a huge coincidence if both Harry's and Ron's pets turned out to be Animagi. It's not like J.K. Rowling to use what would be essentially the same plotline multiple times. I mean, how many different directions could Hedwig being an Animagus go in? We'd read about why the witch had been hiding as an animal for however long, we'd find out if she were good or bad... the same exact situation as with Scabbers, basically. Therefore, I do not believe that Hedwig can be an Animagus -- simply because I think that J.K. Rowling can be much more creative in developing interesting new action. That's the same argument that I use to refute the Crookshanks-is-an-Animagus theories, too. Well, there you've got my two-cents worth. wink.gif
Rojaneer
This is just a random thought, but the subtitle of this forum implies that Hedwig is a male, what if she's a female....
zyra123
She is! tongue.gif

Whoops, sorry, my bad... I often forgets the gender of animals in HP ('xcept for Mrs Norris, of course tongue.gif), but yeah, I've just checked (and I'm always lazy to lift my hands up to the book shelves just on top of my monitor... sleep.gif) and Harry refered to Hedwig as a she.
lawks_fuster
right! hedwig is a she!
but speaking of hedwig being an animagus, probably she is!
all i can say is, she's a different owl! what i mean is she's very unique!
and i think she and harry are somehow destined to be together! wink.gif
like a happy ending in a fairy tale! biggrin.gif just joking!

you were everythin, everything that i wanted
we were meant to be, suppose to be but we lost it
all of our memories so close to me just fade away
all this time you wer pretending so much for my happy ending! biggrin.gif

anyways, i think hedwig's also a mystery! you got a point that she could be an animagus!
hedwig.9
Hedwig an animagus? huh.gif I think thats a bit... farfetched. Why would hewig be hiding? And that would be wierd since Scabbers *hem, hem* Peter, was one as well. If the same thing happened again it would be boring. Wouldn't Harry see her on the map as someone else? Though its never mentioned Harry has seen Hedwig on the map ever. But still.
gryffin_hauz_88
No, I think she is an Animagus. There's no proof or circumstances that will prove this, it's not like Crookshanks that you'll really doubt.
ravenclaw_prefect
Ya know, you do have a point! But when would she get the chance to watch over him? Like someone said earlier, she'd be in the owlery or in her cage. But I do like the idea of her being an Animangus! wink.gif
orangemushroom
HI

I think taht hedwig could be an animangus, because it isnt everyday you see a white owl, so it is probably some unregestered animangus, also because she is white IF hedwig is an animangus she is probablya an albino.

orangemushroom
Scooby doo
i dont think he could have got the owl nwothout someone noing it was one

MOD NOTE: Please refer to the PM I sent you, thanks.
dansgal4eva
Yeah im not sure if i believe my theory of her being an animagus..its still possible though. anything is really. but i did write this before i read the 6th book. i was reading the 3rd book again the other day and its maybe more possible crookshanks is an animagus..wanting to protect sirius..knowing of his innocence maybe? and hating scabbers..
Agent0042
Crookshanks knows all of this stuff because he is half-kneazle. If you're not sure what a kneazle is, be sure to take a look at a copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them?

As for Hedwig, I don't think she's an animagus. Aren't snowy owls supopsed to be somewhat more intelligent than other owls? And Hagrid bought her at a pet store. There was no way of knowing that she would end up with Harry Potter anyway. No, I'm afraid I really don't think so.
ravenclaw_prefect
I don't think that sounds stupid. I think that in book 7 Hedwig and Crookshanks will turn out Animangi. That'll be awesome!
james pickles
nah hedwig is just a very very special and magical pet. she isnt an animagus i dont think she is just someone special.
SeventhHorcrux
Dumbledore definitely has some way (further than what we are aware of) to watch Harry. He said in Order of the Phoenix (i'm pretty sure it was the 5th) something like "Is there a defense? I defy anyone who as watched you as closely as I have - and I have watched you more closely than you can ever imagine - ...." Whether Hedwig is an animagous or not, is indefinite, but it would explain a lot.
Hermione's freak
i don't think hedwig could be an animagus because if she was then why would dumbledore let some others spy on harry. hedwig, anyway, doesn't play much of a role except deliver letters.
but even if she is an animagus (which i doubt) we'll get to know in the 7th part.

I wouldn't have thought so either. If she was, there probably would have been some other plot to the story, with Hedwig coming out as a person. Plus, I don't think she would have been happy eating mice, which they tell you in the books.
FawkesWings
I don't believe so.

1) Because there was no reason for Dumbledore to spy on Harry, from what I gathered (obviously), Harry didn't mind talking about important things and things close to his heart. Unless for some reason Dumbledore had some huge trust issue, and thought that Harry was hiding something.

2) JKR Usually has some way of slipping some kind of clue to something like that. I never did get that impression.

Good thought.
I also agree with james pickles.
I think that he was just a pet, nothing else extraordinary.
