When did you guys start supporting Harry/Ginny?

Harry/Ginny didn't occur to me for a long time, mainly because I was too young to really think about love and romance when I was introduced to the series. I was probably one of the first people in America to read the first Harry Potter, which had been introduced to me by my librarian father before "Harry Potter" even became a fad.

But I was eight years old then, nine or ten when I read "Chamber of Secrets," and twelve when I read "Goblet of Fire." Romance didn't occur to me until I read "Goblet of Fire," and I'll admit that at the time I thought it would be Harry/Hermione. Not because I WANTED it to be, but because I was really inexperienced in the literary romance field and when I thought of Harry falling in love, Hermione was naturally the first girl who came to mind. And that was it.

But it was quite clear after "Order of the Phoenix" that it wasn't going to be Harry/Hermione. It was also quite clear that it wasn't going to be Harry/Cho (urgh). But Harry/Ginny didn't actually occur to me. What I was more focused on was Harry vs. Voldemort and the prophecy. And I figured the romance would be Ron/Hermione and left it at that.

When HBP was released and the Harry/Ginny stuff really kicked in, I wasn't really expecting it, but at the same time I was not surprised. I suppose this is because I knew subconsciously that Ginny was really a good match for Harry. And I've been happy with it ever since.

Droobs, I admit that I thought Harry would get with Luna, too. Though, I didn't want it to happen at the time. Now I wonder... I'm not as strong a G/H shipper so I'm quite comfortable with Luna and Harry, maybe only because Luna ends up with some guy we never even meet! I mean, come on. ::facepalm::
Anyway, I started supporting Harry/Ginny when I first read Chamber of Secrets. And it was a love that grew with time. I was sad in OotP, because I thought "great, now that Ginny is given more to do in this book, she's over Harry and Harry will probably get with Luna, now." But I was thankfully wrong.
I have to see HBP though, I have high hopes on Dan and Bonnie, I hope they don't disappoint me.

Welcome to the world! When you go to your five or ten year high school or college reunion, you will see your former classmates with wives and husbands that you never knew existed. They meet someone in their life after school, fall in love, and get married. Only a small portion of my high school class married hometown kids. Most met someone later on and got married.

When did you guys start supporting Harry/Ginny?

Well, every since I read the first book, I always thought it would be funny if Ginny got together with her first crush and stuff. In the Goblet of Fire I hated Cho, and in the fifth book I hated her even more. I got really excited when Harry dumped her and in the sixth book, I couldn't believe that Rowling had actually brought them together. I was dancing for like a month. I didn't really start writing fan fiction until the fourth book came out, but I guess I've always been a shipper.

I have to agree with Hermod, a lot of the time, it seemed that since Hogwarts was so big and all (40 kids each year) that they would all get married to each other. That was really weird to me. Hermod is right because sometimes they're people who get married to their classmates and such, but that's like 5%. I know this because my dad's aunt or something was married to a guy she met in third grade.
chinery13
hi guys, not been here in a while, sorry.

I think i will have to agree with those of you who thought Harry/Luna wouldnt have been a bad idea in OotP, just because i thought it was really sweet the way they seemed to be comforting each other so much during the book/film. But then HBP suddenly changed my opinion of it all and i really did quite fancy the idea of Harry/Ginny, as people have said it was just so smutty and lovey dovey that i don't think you could stop yourself from thinking, "oh they might be quite good and nice together".

Here's a really nice HBP promo pic that i found whilst browsing the net:

H/G pic

don't you think that is such a cute pic? i have a guess that it is probably after draco has pelted Harry's nose in 'cause it looks like blood on the tissue, don't you think? so she is basically comforting him, i think it's really sweet. they look like they are having a 'moment'.

I will be back, i promise, although you probably don't care all that much lol, tongue.gif

First of all... chinery13! Welcome back, but... you're really confused whether it's R/Hr or G/H for you?? sad.gif No man, seriously? Make up your mind! The stars aren't wrong. (Ok, I don't know what that could mean. The sky stars ...destiny. You know)

Ah, that pic is lovely indeed! I hadn't realised it was blood! I thought it was a cupcake and thought "No way, too cheesy." So yes, maybe it's after Harry threw the Sectumsempra. Or maybe they changed the scene in the beggining, when Draco kicked Harry in the nose, and so is Ginny who spots him first. But... nice moment!

Well, I have to comment that since the discussion in the Ginny's Characterisation is making me think a bit more. I don't think they are like love birds together; ok, they spend a lot of the little time together theyhad in HBP, Harry was happy, Ginny sleeps on his lap, and all, but I don't think they're the kind of boyfriend/girlfriend who spend aaaaall the day together, saying "Oh Harry-ickins, I love you!" "I love you too, Ginny-cakes!"
Both are independants people: Ginny, in part because of the big family, is indeed a family lover but she learnt to grow up on her own, and Harry, for not having a real family, has done the same, and even when he yells out for a family and someone who loves him, he's already marked and so he won't be all the demonstrative. So, I think they just took it cool, even more after the war, because they had just been apart all that time, Harry was deeply affected because of his role and Ginny because of the lose of Fred, and I think maybe they were cool if they spent all the day just sitting next to each other, or holding hands. You know, simple things that make you happy happy.gif

laugh.gif Yes, it was really nonsense, but I don't know; I do hate Cho, but I'm glad Harry could get together with his first crush, that kinda gives you experience, I think. On the other side, it would have been better if he had got with someone better, even when they broke up later for other stuff and not because you're girlfriend is a weepy resented dry.gif

I'm actually glad that Luna ended up with a guy we had never heard about, because... it was Newt Scamander's grandson! It was great for her. I don't think she would have had many things in common with Harry, they're quite different people even when they don't look like at first sight. Neville and Luna, well, yes, that could have happened, but as manyare saying, you've got plenty of wizards and witched out there, why to keep shipping inside the group? With the trio and Ginny it's all right, because Harry and Ginny wasn't even best friends, they were just close because of Ron, so they fell in love (Harry a bit later), and Hermione and Ron is a bit more complicated(ly perfect wub.gif )

I want to see HBP!
Amyrat151
Me too, DeSs, me too!
You made me laugh at your quote "Oh Harry-ickins, I love you!" "I love you too, Ginny-cakes!" You're funny, sweetie.
Oh...that picture! Excuse me while I squeeeee! I'm not sure what she's holding, but I don't think it's food, it's probably a waded up napkin. And she is probably wiping sometime away from his face.
Hermod, I'm very well aware that most people meet their husbands and wives after school, you don't need to tell me that, but it's just annoying to me that Luna just got paired up with a random stranger. That's just how I feel about it. ::shrug::
muggleview
Jo Rowling's blatantly put a black-out on Harry and Ginny's romantic conversation. We know it was good, because they stayed through at least with three close-to-be-teenage children. But we need to hear more. The best dialogue between them was during the "temporary" separation at the end of HBP. It showed how deep the relationship is despite the short time they were together.

blush.gif Oh, thanks! Yes, I agree with chinery that it must be blood she's cleaning off Harry's face... yes, after the Sectumsempra! *smacks her head* Lol, it would be weird if she was holding a cupcake... Eat, Harry, eat!

muggleview, I agree with you too. First, one of the things that annoys me the most is that people say that RHr and HG won't last... Excuse me? Oh, I get it; so they stayed together for the children's sake... because everyone does that, doesn't they? *sarcasm*. If they could raise a family of three and held it together until the time we were able to see, then it's a good one to say 'they wouldn't last'.
And second, we could have got deep dialogues in the Epilogue; I found it a bit blah Harry's answer to his wife "I know he will". blink.gif What's that? JK could have shown us a bit more of deepness, with no need of making this cheesy.
Amyrat151
I might have to puke if she was feeding him.
Yeah, I think people saying that "it won't last" past that point in the epilogue are grasping at straws, desperate to make the couple or couples that conflict with R/Hr cannon.
Muggs, DeSs, I think that we just need to fill in the gaps by ourselves of how G/H turned out after that. I'm okay with filling in the end after the end.
DeSs, yeah a lot of people didn't like the epilogue. I didn't think it was the greatest thing ever written, or that JK even wrote, but I don't think it's the worst either.

i love their relationship, i'm so glad that they got married. i don't think the hermione/harry relationship wouldn't have worked out because they're friends and harry said in DH that he loves her like a sister.

Oh my God! Sweet Lord, thank you!
That's really all the squeeing I have to do, but I now have reason to think that Ginny and Harry will be as good on screen as I hoped. But that was just....I really can't form a thought that sounds smart and stuff.
chinery13
wow that was an amazing part to the film! thanks for posting that link, i hadnt got round to watching all the clips on youtube as of yet but i am definitely going to watch them now.

that was really quite excellent! notice at the end Harry kind of grabs Ginny's arm in a comforting/protective way? so sweet! wub.gif

Their relationship is so sweet! Ginny always liked Harry. And I think that Harry always somewhat liked Ginny too. They were just ment for each other and I just love the two of them together!

I hated it when Dean and Ginny went out! That was just wrong! I am soo glad that Ginny and Harry finally end up with each other.
Amyrat151
Oh wow.
That's really all I have to say about Harry and Ginny in HBP. It was all that I'd hope it be expect...I thought the kiss was to short. Especially if you compare it to Harry and Cho's kiss, that was much longer. But really, how their relationship was portrayed was sweet and intense and a little sexy.
No one else is here to say stuff!
Just the Droobles
This may sound a bit venom-y, but it's not. I'm just highly disappointed.

It was horrible. I hated it. Every scene with Ginny in it I was just like....ugh. I don't understand why they had her with Dean because they didn't even show them breaking up. It was like Ginny was cheating on Dean with Harry. She flirted with Harry the entire movie, even while she was dating Dean. WRONG. Then the shoe thing...please. And the kiss...what the heck? It was probably one of the worst on screen kisses I have ever seen for one. And two, why was it in the RoR? Could they not just throw a freaking party and do it right?

I really just wished that Harry/Ginny would disappear. dry.gif
Amyrat151
I'm sorry Droobs you're all mad about it.
But Hermione said that the pair of them, Dean and Ginny, were just fighting before she came in. So you get the feeling it's not all roses there. I think the viewer guessed they probably broke up.
And it was in the RoR to contrast with Lavender and Ron's kiss. That was a much more shallow relationship, so it was loud and showy. Ginny and Harry's was quite and romantic.
Have to look at things from the movie marker's perspective.
Just the Droobles
I don't even think looking at it from the movie maker's perspective would help.

It was written in the book as showy because that's how it was supposed to be. Ginny and Harry's relationship is not some ooey gooey love fest. The movie was so inconsistent with Dean and Ginny's relationship...one minute she was hugging Harry at the Burrow or about to kiss him there, and the next minute she's talking about Dean and kissing him in the Three Broomsticks. Hermione simply saying "Oh no, they must have fought again" is not going to make me assume Ginny and Dean broke up. How hard would it have been for the screenwriters to write in one line that told that they broke up after that fight?

Amyrat151
I'm not excusing everything there, but I just don't think it's as bad as you think it is. I'm relatively happy. With the movies, I've learned to take what I can get. We can take it down a few clicks. And at the Burrow it was a confused hug, not a "I want to go and find a dark room right now to mack on you" hug.
It does get a little gooey at the start of DH, I think, and Ginny kissing him in her room wasn't showy.
DeSs
Well, after having watched the movie, I've got to agree with Droobles. The previews made me imagine an awesome portrayal of Harry and Ginny's brief and long awaited relationship in HBP, but the movie...
The first scene of them, Ginny sitting by the window and Harry looking at her, and then Ginny hugging her, were cute, it showed a Harry already caught by her and a Ginny excited to see him and ready to show off her feelings.
But then... yes, definitely, it's like Ginny is cheating Dean with Harry! That she cried once about Dean doesn't make me think that they might break up at all. The kiss doesn't give us a hint of that they started dating after that, only Hermione does in the end and it even sounds stupid.
The kiss... was all wrong! It was brief, it was secluded, it was confusing. 'Hello Harry, here, have a kiss, see you later dude'. Seriously, I can understand that Ron had his kiss in a room full of people instead of Harry, I can understand that they kissed in the RoR, but I can't see why it was so short and stupid!
And the constant flirting, maybe it was, as the waitress scene, to show that Harry The Chosen One has hormones, but sometimes it was too corny, that if we compare it with the kiss. If they kiss had been great, then I wouldn't complain about the corny scenes, but like this...

Ok, that's my review. I hope in Deathly Hallows they will make up, including the Happy Birthday kiss, some flirting in the wedding and an explanatory scene when Harry clearly talks to Ginny about breaking up, which would be one of the few hints of that they're dating at all.
Axoria
I also hope that this was just the beginning, and in DH their scenes will be better. The worst imo was the shoelace thing, it was too much. Clear that they wanted to make a snogging movie, but they've gone a bit far with few of the scenes. And they didn't focus on the relationships, just tried to show they're in love, but I think that wasn't even clear in Harry and Ginny's case. And that kiss, I didn't imagine it like that..

The birthday kiss will be better, it must be! smile.gif

I am SO glad that Harry and Ginny ended up 2gether!! I love them!! After I read the first book i just KNEW they would end up 2gether somehow. I mean TOOK THEM LONG ENOUGH!! lol.
I'm happy that Harry and Cho didn't get to far. I don't know... just something about her made me really not like her. Shes much 2 tearful and dramatic. I was a bit disappointed with how they showed Harry and Ginny getting 2gether in the movie.

I thought the book was much more romantic.
prongs2010
I think Ginny and Harry are great together. Harry and ron are great friends and it is great to see then as brothers. I don't think Harry could have made a better choice. The weasleys are a great wizarding family.
