Since the release of the book, rumour has been abound, as it was no doubt going to do, that Warner Brothers are considering turning this book of 5 short stories into a movie.

With the Harry Potter movies drawing to a close in the next few years, WB could be on the look out for their next 'cash cow'.

Here are some links to the rumour stories!

There are dozens of sites quoting the same general theme.

I will ask this however. If they do plan on making this little book into a movie, how will they do it?

Will they include flashbacks to Dumbledore researching?

Will they include Hermione painstakingly translating the tales?

What do you think?
Norberta
Well, I'm not surprised that WB is considering this. The book is now nr.1 in most countries so it's not very strange they are trying to squeese every little penny out of the phenomenon which is Harry Potter.

If they are going to make a movie out of it, I think they will have Dumbledore as some sort of storyteller to bring the stories together. I see the movie starting at Dumbledore's office with Fawkes sitting in the background. Dumbledore can then introduce the movie and maybe be the voice-over of the story. And then in between the stories he can come with remarks as he does in the book.

I think the movie will be best with animated stories and then a real-life Dumbledore. I hope if they do the movie it will include a lot of wizard - stuff in the background and be full of colours(as every fairytale for kids).

Having just finished the book, and with the familiar Harry Potter excitement awakened once more, I admit that I'd really like to see the Tales turned into a movie. It would probably be a short one, made for children, but I can picture it with lots of flashbacks and characters appearing on the screen. I agree with both Elaine and Norberta, it is one more way of making money and extending the Harry Potter craze for as long as possible. However, I would like to watch it. The stories are cute and with a little imagination and creativity, it could turn into a nice movie for kids. smile.gif
{This doesn't mean that the older among us won't watch it. Hehe tongue.gif }

I think turning the Tales into a movie would be great... for everyone! The HP fans get another movie and WB gets more money. I think this would be a great idea, seeing as the series is winding down eeek.gif

I think having Hermione reading the stories is a good scenario to have, seeing as Hermione is the one who had the book. Maybe having the trio crowded around: Hermione translating and Ron explaining the things the other two are confused about. That's how I'm picturing it, anyways. smile.gif

A short movie for kids would be the best bet as to how itt would turn out, but, as alkisti said, all the Potter fans would appreciate it! laugh.gif

Not that I don't want HP to ever end, but that's sort of weird. I've got to give a thumbs down on this one. I mean, it's a good book and all, but making it into a movie would be dumb. It's like, let's just make Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages into books too. They're not the same sereis, literally. Plus, I don't think they'd be very good hits.

The movie would just probably consist of Dumbledore flash-backing and then the stories as little short clips. I would probably watch it, but I don't think I would love it like the rest of the 5, soon to be 6 movies.
Sister to the Dark Lord
That'll be one short movie.

There are just over 100 pages in Tales Of Beetle The Bard, and they'd need a way to incoperate Dumbledore's notes, JKR's expinations, and make sure people knew what was going on if they haven't read the books.

All in all, I think that it would be a good movie, but no one would see it because 1) it's really too short, and 2) the people who didn't read the books wouldn't have a clue what Tales Of Beetle The Bard is.

Sorry to rain on your parade, WB, but that's how the cookie crumbles.

Wouldn't it kind of be a waste of money to make that into a movie? How many people actually bothered to buy the book? I didn't, I love Harry Potter but I wasn't that desperate for some kind of continuation. Most people would have no idea what beetle the bard was and based off what they would see in the trailer I don't think they would go see it. I mean short shories and some of what DD has to say? Honestly, I don't even think it would be that entertaining of a movie. Maybe they could make a DVD extra thing for the stories on the DVD for the last movie. That would probably be pretty cool and I would watch it.

I agree with you on the whole of acidpop's statement, but didn't it say that Bard was number one in the UK? I think it's smart on WB's side to come up with this, but that'll be a helluva time trying to make it long enough with just five stories and a bit of commentary from Dumbledore. wink.gif

I really loved Beedle, it's just so amazing, like the old British legends, but turning it into a movie... It would be like Shrek the Halls, wouldn't it? A kind of Christmas special -- and that would be a paralell with the very same book, released for Christmas also. For me, it'd be a waste of money, especially now with the news that everythingĄs going wrong and a lot of films are going down. We'll be lucky if we get our precious DH... Ok, but I'll keep my spirits high anyway.
Ok, back to the point... If they do it, it would be like you've said, I liked both scenaries: either Dumbledore with Fawkes, but that would be weird, since he's dead and he was dead indeed when the book was published, even in the wizarding world, or Hermione translating and Ron explaining, and Harry laughing... But no, I definitely think that the actors would not agree in that, because it's a lot of stuff to do, just for nothing, and for me, it'd be wiping away the seriousness of Harry Potter.

I never thought of having Hermione or Dumbledore in there but that's a really good point! I'd really love it if they put the disastrous pantomime in there.

I just don't see it, I can see where the rumors and speculation are coming from but I just couldn't see it transferring well onto the big screen. I read the Tales and they were alright, nothing spectacular but it was a good link to the Harry Potter Universe.

I think I'd actually like this, it would be pretty cool. I can imagine it. And the reasons, of course- it's keeping a bit of HP going. Because all of this ending is the most painful idea... eeek.gif I can't imagine how exactly they would turn it into the movies, but I don't think it would be an animated thing- I imagine it as, well... real people, with maybe some Hermione and Dumbledore somewhere in there to link it to HP.

It'd make a cute movie. smile.gif

PS; Thanks HJP/HJG_TrueLove for posting in all these threads that had died, haha.
