Full Version: Broken Prophecies

I'm not entirely sure whether or not this topic is already on here, if it is than please just merge it?

But I was wondering as to other peoples opinions on the topic of the broken prophecies in the Department of Mysteries? Harry's was shattered for sure, however what about all of the other phophecies that were shattered? Does that mean that the people who were supposed to get to hear those prophecies never will? And if a person doesn't hear the prophecie that they were meant for than will it come to pass anyway - or will their life instead be desolate and meaningless because they missed out on something that was supposed to happen by fate?

I would love feed back. happy.gif

I'm not sure of there is a thread for this already either, but all the same it's an interesting topic.

I had a very similar thought while I was reading that part of the book. I'm pretty sure that the prophecy balls (whatever the proper name for them is) were just there so that if whoever the prophecy was about could hear it if they really needed to and so the MoM could keep so sort of record for them. I don't think that just because all the balls were broken the prophecy in it won't happen. There is probably a good chance that whoever the prophecy was about won't hear it but I still think it will happen most likely with or without the person being aware it even exists. I think prophecies have more to do with fate than the person actually being aware of it. Harry and LV's prophecy was broken and fate still took care of that. Ah that is not a good example because they both already knew of the prophecy, but either way it still proved to be true. So basically, no I don't think whoever the prophecies were about will hear them, but I still think they will happen.

Anyone want to add onto that and go about it more articulately than I did? haha

I don't think those prophecies were in the hall of prophecy so the subjects could hear then, I think they were there as a record of what had been prophesised to see if they would come true. Possibly.

How they make the prophecies into these little spun-glass spheres I would like to know. Also, how do they find out that these prophecies have been made? What if someone is listening to one but doesn't realise it and the prophesiser, like Trelwaney, doesn't know they have made one? Or what if they are alone at the time?

My opinion on this question is that it probably magically appears in the Hall and then the Department with the MoM that deals with that is informed. I mean, the world is magic. And I have to agree with acidpop. Harry's prophecy still happened. I think the prophecy balls are just there to inform the person about what is supposed to happen or could happen. Prophecies can be changed probably, well some that are simpler.

Yeah, I don't think that just because the prophecy ball (or whatever it is) broke, meant that the prophecy wouldn't come true because of that. It would probably just end up that the recipient didn't get to hear it. Which may or may not have a good outcome, but...*shrugs* Oh well. That's life if you live in a magical world. tongue.gif

I'm still more curious as to how those things come into being, anyways.

hmmm, the prophecies which were broken down may have something to do with the lives of other people and let's see I don't think so that the person would be really affected by it. I mean that if the person never heard their prophecy in the first place then how do they even know that something like that is there about them for example, getting involved in a wizarding war. So what I mean to say is that for Harry the signs had shown, it was known to him that something like that would happen but it may be for the other people but if they are lucky enough to hear it they will store it someplace like a pensieve or maybe they will just remember it. And in my point of view their lives will change because the only source of knowing about their future or their prophecies was broken so I guess they would be relieved.
The Other Boy Who Lived
I was wondering why Harry and his friends were able to smash the prophecies if there was an enchantment stopping anyone who the prophecy is not about from taking them down. And why didn't the Death Eaters not jest smash Harry's prophecy with a spell and report it to Voldemort?

Hi there, The Other Boy Who Lived,

We already had a topic on Prophecies, so I have merged your post with this thread.

Carry on!

Yeah I was wondering that too. I think that most of them were heard but those that weren't well that's bad for them. tongue.gif
