I looking through all the threads and I didn't see anything that looked like this to me.

I was thinking about baby names, and one of my favorites comes from a book I really like. This made me think of Harry Potter, because they're some of my other favorite books! Haha There aren't any names in the series that I would like to use for my future children's names but I realized one name was ruined for me, Trevor. I think it sounds nice and makes a good guy's name, but ever since it was the name of Nevillle's toad that is all I think about when I hear it. No offense to anyone whose name is Trevor by the way!

Are there any names that you like after reading the series? Names you dislike?

I have to say that I can agree.

I always liked the name Pansy. It made me think of the flowers that somehow bloom when everything else is dead or dying. They almost look like they are smiling at you when you look at the blossoms. Now I think of Pansy Parkinson when I hear the name. I don't think of that character as pretty, maybe cute if you like pugs but not what I'd want a daughter to look like.

So Pansy has been ruined for me unless I acquire a dog. Fetch Pansy!

Sorry to anyone who might be a Pansy...yes, it was once a lovely name. I'm sure you are lovely as well. I just don't like your name anymore.

I have to agree with Pansy. I used to like that name. Also, Petunia and Peter. Although I have to say I like some names better now. For example Tom, James and Ron.

James has always been one of my favorite names. Plus, being from the U.S. we have Jenny instead of Ginny, which I like Ginny better. And I'd never heard the name Hermione until the books, and I really like it. Those 3 names would be ones I would probably consider naming my children, then I would force them to read the books, ha.

I never really cared for the name Neville, but his character in the book gives the name such personality. And the same is for Luna biggrin.gif

I've heard of some of the strange names in Harry Potter, but never thought about using them for my future kids. Hermoine's from mythology, and Sirius and Draco are constellations, but Severus, Regulus, Albus, and so forth, are completely foreign to me. But they do have a certain appeal in their oddness.

I used to really dislike the name Harry.

I thought it sounded old and could easily be made fun of. "Harry is Hairy" and such, but now, after becoming an obsessive HP fan, I really like the name, though I don't think I'd ever name my child Harry.

I also really love the name Hermione and, if I can talk my future husband into it, I plan to give one of my daughters the name. The names Luna, Cedric, and Neville have made their way into my heart as well.

I never liked the named Dolores and now that everytime I hear the name I think of Umbridge I like it even less.

I can't say that any names were exactly ruined for me, but my Mom's name is Jenny. So maybe Ginny would be an apporpriate name?? I don't know. But my best friend's Mom's boyfriend is named Ron, so I just laugh whenever I hear it, because of Harry Potter. biggrin.gif But Lily is a nice name too. I will never name any of my children Harry. I don't don't know why, maybe I don't want to die when he's still a baby. Just kidding!! tongue.gif

This I'm going to say has nothing to do with ruined names at all, but I needed to comment it somewhere ... so here I am. You see, I love Friends, and I noticed a while ago, while watching the chapter Rachel gave birth to her daughter, that Monica wanted to name her children Emma and Daniel. And today, watching the chapter Phoebe was going to have his brother's twins, I found that her brother and his couple's names are ... Alice and Frank. Um, coincidence!
Of course, the thing about Daniel and Emma is a coincidence, but Alice and Frank? I think JK really liked Friend, and Alice and Frank sound very good laugh.gif

Common names are still fine; Harry, Tom, Ron, Molly
But pretty names like Hermione and Luna, little iffy.

Particulary Hermione, that name couldn't be used without people thinking of Hermione Granger. It's not very common.

That's a good point.

For me, the name James died a painful death.

Consider Joshua James.

It has a nice ring to it doesn't it?

Oh well.

Joshua James, that is a good name smile.gif

I really want to name one of my daughters Lily, so I'm trying really hard not to let it be ruined. I think it's popular enough to get away with >><<;;

I really like the name Nymphadora I'm not sure why, but I love it. I am wierd I like all the really odd names like Albus, Severus, Siruis; alas I would never name my child any of these particular names because kids now a days are sooo cruel and would make fun of names to no end. But then again Albus is strong, determined, and nice; I would love my kids to be that. LOL! But I really don't know! I used to like the name Dolores (sp?) because of the movie Sister Act, but since these books and particularly the movies I don't like that name any more. Oh well, although I do not know what I would name any of my children to be honest....especially if they are boys!

In the US, Jenny is the diminutive for Jennifer while Ginny is the diminutive for Virginia.
